Super fast service, tender chicken, and great assortment of classic sides (chicken broth soup, cucumber, and sauteed veggies). But the portion size was smaller than I expected for ~$24.

I got take out from Hainan Jones inside Urban Hawker. Their signature Singaporean chicken rice was delicious, came with a small soup and two dipping sauce. Service was fast and efficient.

The food here really hits the spot if you're craving comforting, authentic Hainanese chicken rice. Ambience (4/5): Casual, cozy setup with a clean and modern fast-casual vibe -- simple but inviting for a quick meal. Food (4/5): The chicken is tender and juicy with that silky texture done right, and the rice is fragrant with the right garlicky-ginger kick; portions are generous and sauces (especially the chili) tie everything together. Value (4/5): Prices feel fair for the quality and portion size, especially compared to other spots in the city serving Hainan chicken.

Food was served up to me 15 seconds after I ordered like it was just sitting in the to-go container already. It was all very cold and the skin of the roasted chicken had gotten extremely soggy. Wish they would make it fresh.

Have been wanting to try the Urban Hawker food hall for quite some time. Out of all the restaurants, Hainan Jones was most appealing to me because I wanted some Hainan Chicken. It was pretty good. Chicken was tender, rice didn't have much flavor. I ordered the signature poached Chicken Rice set. Veggies and soup were pretty good. Decent portions and value. Service was friendly and efficient. Since it is in a food hall, there was plenty of seating available in a somewhat vibrant setting. Will have to come back to try the other vendors!

One of the stalls that has been there the longest, this one offers hainanese chicken in various flavors. The chicken and rice are good.

This is hands down the most tender poached chicken I've ever had. The chicken was flavorful, chicken skin perfectly salted, and the fragrant rice was unreal. Growing up with my grandma's hainanese chicken rice, this took me back in the best way possible. Sauces were mid, but thankfully the dish really didn't need them!

The Hainan chicken here is absolutely out of this world - hands down the best I've had, even after trying many spots. The chicken was unbelievably tender, and the rice was bursting with flavor. Nothing in LA (or anywhere else) compares to this! The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I had to come back and pick up more Hainan chicken the day I flew home - in the rain! That should tell you how worth it this dish is. Highly recommended! Please open one in LA!! If you're in New York and love Hainan chicken, don't miss this spot.

Hainan Jones is a stall in the Urban Hawker food hall. It's easy to spot and find once you walk in from the main entrance. The gentleman behind the counter took my order and quickly prepared my meal which was the classic chicken set. It comes with vegetables. There was not much of a wait time. I got the rice to go, and it carried well. The rice and chicken were very flavorful and not too heavy. Has a nice touch and doesn't feel so heavy but enough to be filling. I came in the evening so it was a lot of people looking/walking around. Can see it getting busy during lunch or dinner time. Definitely worth a try, reminds me of home cooking!

Date: Saturday, May 4th, 2024 Time: around 7pm Meal: Dinner *Signature Poached Chicken Rice Set ($19) The hubby wandered off on his own and came back with chicken rice. I adore this dish, so obviously, I did not mind. The chicken was nicely poached. Soft, silky, tender. I did find myself wishing they had a good hot sauce tho cuz I love my spice. The greens were garlicky and still retained a good texture. I hate overcooked mushy veggies. Gimme some crunch! Nice option for chicken and rice. REVIEW #3403

    Roast Chicken Set
    Christine L.

Got the roast chicken signature set which included a generous portion of rice, roast chicken, oyster vegetables, cucumber and tomatoes, and chicken broth for $19. Def a bit pricey, but it was a large portion and all tasted good! The chicken was maybe a tad on the dryer side (white meat), but the dark soy sauce and hot sauce definitely helped. This stall is located in Urban Hawker, an Asian food court in midtown. Apparently it gets pretty packed during peak hours, but when I went on a weeknight around 7 pm there was no line. I'd come back to try the poached chicken, but wouldn't wait in line.

Love this hainan jones chicken! I ordered the set that comes with rice, soup and steamed veggies. And I got half/half roasted and poached as I wanted to try both options! I also ordered side of extra veggies and the tofu. Can definitely skip the tofu. It was not the best I've had. Hainan jones is located inside a busy food court, however service was quick and my order was ready within a minute of ordering! This hainan chicken was the most tender chicken I've ever had, and the rice was fragrant. And I also got a side of their homemade spicy sauce, which I really want to make! Overall I loved Hainan jones, and want to return !

I had saved the Urban Hawker food hall some time ago, so was excited to finally be on the same end of town during a trip. I love Hainanese chicken, so made a beeline for Hainan Jones. I was served quickly and received my food shortly after ordering. There was plenty of seating, even being a Saturday so had no issues find a spot. The food was delicious, but my only note was that everything was barely warm aside from the broth on the side. I at least expected that the bok choy / vegetables might have been hot. I would definitely come back, but might take it to go so it can be heated up a little more at home.

RIP Urban Hawker…read more Though if you wanted to recreate that part in movie plots where the protagonist we all thought had veered into untimely demise surprises everyone by miraculously making a comeback--I'm down for that too! Though on a serious note--kinda bummed bc I wanted to make one last visit before they closed July 17, though unfortunately I didn't make it back to town in time :( What a loss of a cultural connection point for the city! Food is a gateway to experiencing and understanding other cultures and this location was front and center in midtown, blocks from Times Square. In a sea of other cuisines, this part of Southeast Asia didn't/doesn't have much representation in general in Manhattan, and even less so now. Scouring articles and comments online I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they're able to find a different space in the near future! Was it the best food court? I'll admit this was easily debatable for many reasons. But each stall had their own standouts. Tradsiyon was a later addition though had really solid braised meat and veggie bowls; Hainan Jones stepped into a midtown scene several years ago with no other similar Hainanese chicken spots in midtown (a few others thankfully are around today); Kopifellas brought uniquely Singaporean/Malasian tea and coffee options; I still remember the first bite of Prawnaholic's signature shrimp and rib noodles tasting that savory goodness for the first time; and most of all I will dearly miss this location of Lady Wong, where I rarely walked away empty handed. Thank you for the memories (and think about that movie plot twist I mentioned above)!

I think I grieved more for Urban Hawker closing than when my dad died…read more Urban Hawker wasn't successful in the way you'd expect any food hall to be successful-- their food wasn't spectacular. I rarely went home invoking a strong enthusiastic response to come back to eat something again. Their strong suite was location, space, and variety. What I loved most--besides having a reliable bathroom in Midtown--was what it became for the people around it. It was a place where office workers could decompress after work, grab a beer with coworkers, or catch up with friends they hadn't seen in a while. There was something refreshing about the atmosphere. People seemed relaxed and unguarded, shedding the polished professional persona they'd worn all day. It felt like watching the city exhale for a little while. And another thing I appreciated was their attempt to represent different nationalities under one roof. The more common items performed the worse and that's probably when you come to a space dedicated to hawker style cuisine, you expect to try some of their more novel stuff like Coffee Pork Fried Rice (from a stall that specialized in fried rice) or Noodles in Bechamel. I also frequently enjoyed their only drinks provider for the best Yuen Yang I've ever had. The method for making them seems theatrical at first but when you've had one that wasn't properly aerated, you truly taste the chalky bitter tannins. It was a good thing there was an experience worker there (possibly the owner). Who you got to make your drink was hit or miss because at varying times, my gf would be lucky enough to run into the one guy who could do it with oatmilk (she's lactose intolerant). It's sad to see this place go and there'll be many times ahead of us where we point out that that's where the Urban Hawker used to be.

They have a great lunch special for $13.99 entree & drink. Very nice deal. I ordered the Nasi Lemak with chicken and the calamansi honey jasmine drink. As a Malaysian, I can confirm that the Nasi Lemak was good. I would just recommend that they give the rice and curry a few minutes to cool down before serving. This dish should never be served piping hot. This is a lukewarm or room temperature dish. I would also recommend peeling the cucumber completely which is the authentic way. The peel had a bitterness which wasn't pleasant. The calamansi drink didn't have any jasmine flavor and needed more calamansi, but still refreshing. I ordered a mango sticky rice to go. It was just ok. Overall, I'd come back to try more things. Service was friendly. Fyi there's a fee for credit card payments.
