The location is super convenient in Midtown, just steps from Rockefeller Center, and I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to get a table for three both times without much wait. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable for Midtown Manhattan. Over the two visits, I tried both versions of the Hainanese chicken rice, and both were delicious. The food came out incredibly fast, and I especially appreciated that the meals included Chinese broccoli. I also tried the stir-fried noodles from Hainan Jones and that was excellent. Heard that Anthony Bourdain loved this spot for hainan chicken and rice, which is a comfort dish for me and I really understand why. The chicken was very tender, well prepared, and so were the veggies. I think it has stiff competition by way of Lou Yau Kee but is definitely up there as top 5 southeast chicken rices in the city! I would def come back here and what's great is that you can feel healthy bc it's steamed/poached chicken, rice and veggies :) It's inside Urban Hawker, so you can get a variety of other things to go with your meal - might I recommend Kopi (malaysian coffee) at the nearby stand? The flavors were bold, authentic, and the chicken skin was silky smooth. The cucumbers had a nice crunch and the veggies as well. Hainanese Chicken Rice is considered one of Singapore's most celebrated local dishes and is the star at Hainan Jones. I ordered the Signature Poached Chicken Rice Set ($19). The rice set is served with very fragrant chicken rice and broth accompanied by oyster vegetables with fried shallots, cucumbers, a chili sauce, and dark soy sauce. Hainan Jones is a great Midtown option, especially if you want something fast, consistent, and reasonably priced. I ordered Combo #1, the Signature Chicken Rice Set with poached chicken, and it was excellent. The chicken rice was flavorful, the service was very fast, and the value was strong for Midtown. I had saved the Urban Hawker food hall some time ago, so was excited to finally be on the same end of town during a trip. I love Hainanese chicken, so made a beeline for Hainan Jones. I was served quickly and received my food shortly after ordering. There was plenty of seating, even being a Saturday so had no issues find a spot. The food was delicious, but my only note was that everything was barely warm aside from the broth on the side. I at least expected that the bok choy / vegetables might have been hot. If you're going to a Singapore street market, you have to try the hainanese chicken. First off, you get a lot of food from this place. This is a lot of food for one person so best to share with a group. The chicken was juicy and had a lot of flavor. It comes with vegetables so you have some greens to balance it out. However, the chicken does not feel like it was cooked in the rice because the rice was a little bland. We stumbled upon this good haul when looking for a place to eat and omg it was Asian food galore! We don't have a lot of Singaporean food around where we are so I was so excited! Stumbled across the urban hawker and came in to check it out. After looking at all of food options, we decided to try it out as I miss the chicken and rice from Singapore. There was a short line on a Tuesday night around 7pm. Food was ready shortly after ordering. There are lots of people here and slightly loud. We were able to find some seats. Signature chicken and rice set comes with greens as opposed to the classic set. The chicken was moist and tender. The rice was flavorful and had good texture (I hate it when the rice is soggy) and the sauces that came with it was great as well. The spicy sauce has a bit of tartness as well as spice and it complimented the dark soy sauce. "Such good value!", and, "Good food!" are all things I thought when eating from Hainan Jones. A bowl of chicken rice is only three dollars! The soy braised tofu adds $4.50. That's only 7.50 for a whole meal. On top of having great value, the food is authentic Singaporean, and has great flavor. Nothing soothes the soul like comfort food when home sickness kicks in. Ever since the transition and move to MA, I've felt personally off and "lost". I remember during my drive across the United States that a notification on my phone prompted me to stop at the first available interstate shoulder. It was an Eater article and it was about a Singapore style hawker opening up in NYC. Not only was I suddenly excited but it lifted my spirits. For a hawker center to a Singaporean is not only a staple accessible food source but for me, it has defined just how I eat and want to eat. I want everything in one place with each small spot performing and perfecting their small set of dishes. So is it a surprise that I drove here the first moment I had from Boston? Nope. It's like driving to LA from Monterey...just another day, another drive. Of all the spots I tried in the short mental health days I took, Hainan Jones was the most authentic (expectedly so - all ingredients are easily available in the US) and on par with just about any hawker centre or food court you'd visit in Singapore. Yes, it doesn't stand a chance again the best of Singapore BUT it does par with the other 90% and that says something. This stall alone made the drive worth it for a Singaporean who's deeply in love with this national dish. Portion is probably acceptable but I definitely want more. It comes with a few sauces to help it along, and they're both good, but they're stingy or sloppy with filling the sauce containers so you might not have enough. The rice is the star, fragrant and rich with ginger and chicken, and possibly sesame oil. The veggies are an afterthought. Soup is tasty, if a bit salty. It's a decent rendition if you're craving this in midtown. If you're an office worker nearby or a tourist you might be ok with the prices, but you're definitely paying for the location. Happy to try this once for research but it's not worth the premium. There's a truck 3 blocks away that will serve you the same dish at just over half the price of the set here. Went here for lunch and tried the famous hainanese chicken. It did not disappoint. I've had different types of Asian style poached chickens in the past but nothing as good as this. The chicken was so juicy and tender and the temperature on it was just right. The rice was also seasoned just right with ginger and chicken broth. Lastly the soup on the side was warm, clear and clean. The downsides to this place are it can get crowded during lunch and it is a bit on the pricier side for chicken and rice.
