It's not our first time here, but definitely our last. Purchased Menudo today (Sunday). Tasted old or as if not stored correctly, then overcooked/heated/burnt, with a bitter taste. This is a small booth. There was outdoor space for you to sit down and eat. However, most people just came and picked up the food to go. I saw people bring their own pot to pick up to go food. I did my research. It stated that this place has the best menudos in Los Angeles. I purposely came here super early on Sunday, and it was raining to pick up some menudos because people said that there will be a line and menudos tends to sold out early. It was not cheap. I got a large one with corn for $10. I asked for to go and took it home. Unfortunately, the menudos spilled because the to go container material was not strong enough to hold things together. It comes with chili pepper, onion, lime, and cilantro. Taste was decent, and it had some weird after taste as I was eating more and more. A little disappointed actually. I would not want to wake up so early and come line up for menudos next time. Recommend to bring your own container or pot to get menudos to go. A little restaurant over in El Monte. Came over for a carne asada but decided I'd love to try a sope so I went with a Jr carne asada burrito. Great choice as it was the size of a regular burrito. Like many burritos with all the fixings, it was a little uneven more meat on one end and more rice on the other. Not a big deal for me because all the ingredients were delicious. The carne asada was rich in flavor as it was perfectly seasoned. The sope had a bit too much lettuce, but the same delicious carne asada. I'm usually a green chili man, but the red one was so good. This place is supposedly one of the best places for menudo. I was encouraged as I pulled into the parking lot of the shack that they are in and saw many customers. Came here to get menudo, tortillas, and rice. Nice little shack with outside seating. The food was really good. Husband really wanted menudo and it did not disappoint. I got rice to go and we got tortillas to take back to Taiwan. ONLY DOWNSIDE is that the place was swarming with bees. And they follow bright colors and sweet food ( I was drinking a Starbucks coffee). I've never been stung before and didn't want to take a risk so I was pretty freaked out. Good food, great service is my review. Very nice ladies who work here and happy to give them my business every now and again. The food is good, don't get me wrong, it's just not special enough to drive the extra miles with so many amazing Mexican restaurants so much closer to my house. What I really wanted to try was their menudo, but they were already out around mid day Saturday. Good news is, it's likely made fresh daily since they needed to make a new batch for Sunday but the bad news for late risers like me and don't live in the area is that I will likely never taste it :(. I settled for the Carnitas burrito, which was huge and tasted good enough, but Like I said, there are several places closer to me with food just as good. The al pastor taco was the best tasting of the bunch, but yet again a bit of a drive for something I can get closer to home. We've been living in El Monte for over 40 years and never had tried this place. This place is not the prettiest, or the most welcoming look. It's a hole in the wall.. I love family owned businesses they play an important role on Yelp! I came across this place by accident. I was hungry and sitting at a light I looked over and saw this little shack and pulled over. This place was ran by a family a little family which I loved. Parents and siblings were working there together. I got several types of tacos and a torta. The food was really good and so was their salsa. I love me some good salsa!!! The quality was not missing one bit. The reason for the 4 stars is its cash only and the hospitality wasn't there and maybe its because it was being ran by high school boys and they probably didn't feel like being there so I get it. I was lured here by the good reviews and a few tasty-looking pictures, but I was ultimately disappointed. Another user's photo of a Ham Torta looked really good, so that's what I ordered. Unfortunately, it was lacking in quality and flavor. I tasted more beans than ham, and the bread was so thin and soft that the whole torta got soggy right away. It was really lacking in flavor. The torta was pretty long, and they didn't even cut it in half. Luckily I had a plastic knife in my car and I was able to cut it in pieces. Considering how soggy the torta was, picking it up as whole wasn't really an option. I really wish it had been toasted more, and I wish it had more ham. The cheese quesadilla I ordered was also a disappointment. Thin, greasy, and soggy. I love when restaurants toast the tortilla enough so there's a little crisp to it, but that did not happen here. The cheese was whatevers. The whole thing was whatevers. I didn't think it even looked good enough to take a pic. lol My husband ordered an Al Pastor taco and I have to say that's the only thing we liked. It had a pretty good flavor. Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen here in Socal, it's hard to choose and it's impossible to try them all. The main reasons (besides great tacos) I like this place is that it's a very small mom and pop Taco stand, the owners are very friendly even if your not a Spanish speaker and there is only outdoor seating. That's right there are only 2 picnic tables out front and some side counter space. It's great to sit outside even when raining and just enjoy a great Taco. If your into menudo you are going to love this place (only served on weekends). Drive by on a weekend and there's always a line for the menudo. This place was recommended by Philip L. He claimed that they have huge burritos for $5. So one day we started getting lunch here. And the burrito totally exceeded my expectations. Usually places that are small and are very busy is because they tend to focus more on the quality rather than to own a big place and not provide good quality. Well this place amazed me. The menu does not state the prices, but I believe their prices are reasonable. The menudo was $9 for a large and the carne asada wet burrito was $6.49. Menudo -After having gone nearly two weeks of not eating any meat, I was really craving menudo. The last time I had it was nearly 15 years ago, so I don't really know how it compares with other restaurants. There are huge chunks of tripe and hominy. It also comes with a side of onions, cilantro, lime, and 4 corn tortillas. I remember that 15 years ago I drank a oily red soup with tons of tripe and beef parts, and I have been craving that soup ever since. I am not sure if menudo was that kind of soup, but in my opinion, this soup did not bring back those delicious memories. Carne asada wet burrito- there was no way I could finish the burrito by myself. The burrito takes up about half the size of a to go box. Although it was a wet burrito, they did not seem to put much sauce. The inside of the burrito was quite bland, but it earned it's redemption when mixed in with the mild green chile sauce. The carne asada was a bit dry, and it would have been nice if I had more green chile sauce. Overall, I would order burritos here, but maybe not the menudo. Maybe menudo just isn't for me. read more
