Drove by, saw them on the corner, decided to flip a U-turn and try them out. They have a shaded patio area for seating, which is nice. And appreciated since it's getting warm fast. The front parking lot was clean. There's multiple parking spots, we can also park on the street if needed. They do have handicap parking. The staff is friendly. Their Chilaquiles don't normally come with chicken, but they added chicken for me for an additional fee. I was happy. Chilaquiles is one of my favorite dishes and I get them all the time from different locations. By the way, the Chilaquiles are so good Like I mentioned, I've tried them from several different locations. And these are delicious. They are spicy and I like them like that! When you walk into a window and have no idea what some of the menu items are, you know you have to put on your big boy pants and go off the deep in. Taqueria La Cubana is one of those not so fancy but oh so delicious taco stands. You're sitting just north of the 10 Freeway and although during the day it's a safe enough spot to come to, I wouldn't recommend coming at night. As for the food. Oh man, the tacos are good and the shining jewel of it all is the Coctel or the shrimp cocktail with tostadas to go on the side. I been coming here for years and at $15 an order, you get some good size shrimps if you're a seafood lover. If you're lazy like me, I get extra tostadas, 3 for $1. I know you can run to sthe store to get a lot more for cheaper but it's easier to just buy it here. I found this place on Yelp, and the food looked really good, so I decided to give it a try. When I checked the payment options online, it clearly stated they accept debit and credit cards. However, when I got there, the parking was terrible, and as I approached to order, I noticed a sign on the window that said "Cash only." I was like, what the hell? I double-checked online, and it still showed that they accept credit cards. This is totally misleading and frustrating. This place is IT! My family and I constantly come back here for their wet burritos and their campechana! The service is excellent, I think it might be a family running it but each worker has been kind every single time we have visited. This place isn't really well known because of the location. It is literally in a residential area on Cogswell & Exline in El Monte, CA. What I love about this place is their tacos! I've tried the tacos, wet burrito, torta ahogado, asada quesadilla, and the shrimp cocktail. Everything was pretty good and they don't skimp on the meat. The shrimp cocktail was actually good for the price too. Only thing I can complain about is the torta was way too spicy. I love chile and this was almost inedible. My wife couldn't eat it. I've been going to "Tacos La Cabaña" for over 20 years and it's ALWAYS been consistent and friendly as the very 1st time I went. They've had maybe 2 or 3 ownership changes and I thought that was going to affect the quality of their service, but nah! Nope.. Different faces but the same friendly smile! Yes, it is a "HOLE IN THE WALL", un-glamorous, simple but then again, that's exactly what a "Cabaña" is! They have a steady clientele which is a good indicator of good, consistent service. It's right next to a freeway so it's not the quietest place in the world. There's no indoor seating, they have park bench style seating but like me, most people have their order "to-go." Service may also be a bit slow but keep in mind that there's only 1 person at the grill most of the time. Quantity is VERY generous. Believe me! I would be the 1st one to yell "RAPE" if I were given a burrito the size of "my hand" for $5! Their burritos are as big or BIGGER than Alberto's. They actually GRILL their "asada" unlike Alberto's who "cooks" their "asada" therefore making the meat spongy and gives it a funny, rubbery taste. They're generous with their condiments as well; they place them out on a small table for the customer to "help themselves." Over all, Tacos "La Cabaña" is a simple not-so-fast-fast-food-joint-hole-in-the-wall place with a LARGE menu and certainly something for everyone. Great tasting tacos and tostada. Almost every tacos here are good. Al pastor, tripa, shrimp are all my favorites. One thing worth to mention is that the shrimps they use in their tacos and tostada are great tasting fresh and meaty shrimps, unlike some places that use frozen crunchy tasteless shrimps. Maybe its because I didn't speak spanish, regardless, if this place looks like a hole in the wall, looks shitty, guess what? that's exactly what this place is. Here's my experience with this place. Always passed by this place and saw how they had a Menudo sign. Makes me hungry everytime i pass by because I love menudos and this place looked like those hole in the wall places. Granted I never seen it busy or had alot of people there and I can tell why. I had the courage to stop by here one morning and wanted a breakfast burrito of some kind. I didn't see anything like that so I ordered an asada burrito. The cashier then says "its going to be $5". WOW! I thought, a $5 dollar burrito, as there are no pictures I was thinking he or the chef or whoever is back there has some giant ass tortilla and this was going to be a bigger/ better version that what you can get at Albertos. The Result: If you thought I got a $5 dollar burrito guess again. This place handed me a small paper bag the size and the burrito was as big as my hand. What I ate and the quantity of this burrito should have been a $2-3 dollar burrito. I felt ripped off but guess I wont be coming back here again. Neither should anyone else unless. My niece, who lives down the street from this place, recommended to stop here for tacos only. Although I was looking for pozole in a pan. So I took a chance and asked if they served pozole in a pan. They said yes they serve it in a pan, however, the girl at the window showed me a large styrofoam cup and told me they serve and charge by the large styrofoam cup sizes and asked how many cups I wanted. I should have seen that as a warning sign because when I got home, there was barely enough pozole to feed 3 people. My husband told me when I was on the phone with him, while I was waiting for them to warm my pozole, that this place serves canned pozole. Well he was right and I should have seen this coming when the girl told me they serve pozole in a pan by cup size and she told me that I had to wait 5 minutes for the pozole to finish cooking. How could I have not seen this? And to top it off, I ordered their carne asada quesadilla and it was not good at all. The rice was not good either. I don't know about everyone else but when the rice at a Mexican restaurant isn't even good, that is not a good sign. And how can anyone mess up a carne asada quesadilla?
