We had an absolutely horrible experience with our recent stay at The Rushes. The stay itself was…read morefine, but we were given no instructions for checkout/cleaning. We left it very clean, but did not strip the beds or wash towels because no instruction was provided on how to manage these items. We swept, ran the dishwasher and left it very clean. We also left a tip for the cleaning crew. There were no instructions at check out nor were there instructions provided in the unit. So, we did our best to leave it ready for the cleaning crew. Several days later their general manager Kay Englebert emailed me to say that we were charging us $250 for cleaning because we left the sheets on the bed, placed towels in the tub instead of a laundry basket we were unaware of, and had two dishes left that did not fit in the last run of the dishwasher before we checked out. $250!!!! I went back and forth in several emails asking for clarification on how we could be charged when no one explained any check out procedures to us nor did they provide instructions in the unit. They had no answer or documentation to show because they never did either of those things. They tried to say they went back in to check the condo and found instructions - but where were there when we stayed?? No where to be seen! We saw instruction on sanitizing our dishes and conserving water and how to use the fireplace if we wanted (but didn't) and that was it. NO INSTRUCTIONS on check-out procedures or expectations. They just stopped replying to my emails and charged my card. I am currently in the process of disputing it with my credit card company. It's so disappointing that this happened because we would have gone back another time, but this horrendous lack of communication all around, poor management, and dishonest way of operating will keep us from ever returning or recommending to anyone else. Stay away if you also don't want to be charged for ridiculous hidden fees! What a nightmare.

Booked the 1.75 hour 3pm Lakeside Lighthouse Cruise from Baileys Harbor for a Tuesday. When…read morebooking, had to accept a required click though term saying: "I understand that our Cancellation policy is simple and strict, but fair. We DO NOT give refunds, rather we will gladly give you credit for use another time." Well, the proprietor may think their policy is simple and strict but fair, but making me accept the term on a click through does not make it so. After booking, I later went on the website and saw on their calendar that our tour was cancelled, although I never got an email or text saying the tour was cancelled. I called the tour company to rebook, didn't get anyone and left a message. I did get a callback later and we rescheduled to Thursday. It was windy on Tuesday and there were some whitecaps so cancelling seemed reasonable. Thursday there was little wind and the water seemed relatively tranquil. So we go to Baileys Harbor for our 3pm tour and see the tour boat, the Hope. I wasn't impressed on first sight. There was a fairly decent sized group lined up, about 15-20 people. We boarded and the tour guide / narrator and master captain (as he said) seemed pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable enough. If I heard correctly, the tour boat, the Hope is a former U.S. coast guard lifesaving boat from around 1980, and the narrator said it was "unsinkable". Hmmm, I recall a ship described as unsinkable... We got underway. It soon became apparent that a former U.S. coast guard lifesaving boat does not make a good tour boat. Everyone was seated on hard wood bench seats (with thin foam cushions) lining the inside sides of the boat and facing inward. The boats engine, a Detroit Diesel engine is in a large wood compartment right in the middle of the passenger area and is very loud, ranging from a measured from my seat 91-94 db (loud) while underway. As a result the narrator uses a PA system to be heard over the engine noise. There is also the smell of diesel fuel quite present on board. No restroom. Despite the lake appearing tranquil with maybe 3 foot waves at most, the boat's ride is very unstable, with the boat rocking to and fro and crashing over waves and spraying occupants on occasion despite the plastic screens up front. In fact, the motion of the boat was violent enough that mid-tour the amplifier for the PA system used by the narrator came loose from its ceiling mount location and loudly crashed on the deck! Luckily the large PA system amplifier didn't hit or hurt anyone, but it was useless after that and the narration was effectively over. Due to the rocking of the boat, the passengers needed to stay seated and hold on, moving about while underway wasn't possible. A passenger near me kept jokingly calling the boat the SS Minnow and said he saw a small water leak, which I didn't see. The tour itself primarily consists of loudly and slowly chugging out to the Cana Island lighthouse for about 45 minutes, staying around there for a minute for pictures and then chugging back to dock, with a drive by of the range lights on the way out and the birdcage lighthouse on the way back. Despite what the website says we did not see any shipwrecks, wildlife or other specific geological features, nor would I say the trip was relaxing or pleasant with the noisy, smelly boat crashing about. They really need a different, better, purpose built tour boat if this is the experience with only about 3 foot waves. Cannot recommend. Maybe if the lake water is like glass the experience would be a bit better.

It was dark, small, living TV wasn't working, the lighting was terrible. The one positive thing that I can say is it was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. We checked out after an hour or so and found a place that suited our needs. Hopefully, we'll get at least 4 of our 5 nights refunded. My advice is check the rooms out before you check in and call the hotels directly before you book it. Reservation website aren't always accurate and truthful. As a former front desk associate, I know how important is to have a satisfied guest, so that your hotel is highly recommended and returned to.

The accommodations were renovated, clean and well-maintained. I stayed in Bill's Room - b/c it was the least expensive boarding with a good reputation. At $80/night (for either on or off season), it's definitely more affordable than the nearby inns/motels. Don't expect a lot of amenities with the small room though - but there is coffee, free WiFi, and cable TV. No phone though, which made things difficult since we had absolutely no reception on our cell phones. A complete Cell Phone Dead Zone - I had to drive out a few minutes onto the 42 in order to call the innkeepers to have them come fix some broken blinds. Inconvenient, but not too bad. As it's a small, family-owned inn, they don't have someone manning the office everyday. But Hugh and Alicia were just a phone call away and would drop by when you needed something. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great place to stay - the other rooms they have available are really nice - w/ fireplaces, sitting areas, etc. Their website is well set up with photos of the rooms and prices for the season. It's centrally located in Ephraim and walking distance to the water and restaurants. Check it out next time you're in Door County!

The king size bed was very comfortable!There is even a private outdoor seating area that we enjoyed every day. The hostess, Tami, was prompt with all replies. Breakfast is served to you at your room, so you can have a private getaway. The location is great too. We only had to walk a block or two in any direction to find a little boutique, restaurant or bar.

We had a gigantic jetted tub in our room. Ten minutes in there helped me sleep better at night. A full, hot breakfast is served in a basket left at your door so you can enjoy it in the peacefulness of your own room. I very much appreciated not having to eat with other guests, and we had a lovely sunroom for enjoying meals. There is ample street parking and a free city lot across the street. Once we checked in, every place we visited in town was within a 3-4 block radius, so we walked everywhere. We loved it and would definitely book here again on a future trip to Door County.

This newly renovated, family owned lodge has so much small town charm, you just don't want to leave. I woke just before sunrise to dim light, a slight overcast and quiet waves hitting the sandy beach just 40-50 yards from the back porch seating! There is a slight trail that will guide you past and around a local house that is perched right on the beach. Don't be afraid to walk past it, the lodge owns beach access and the neighbors have learned to live with it (We confirmed the route to access the beach [Right in front to us] with the lodge owner) Hubby made our plans to travel to WI just a week before we arrived! He tried to have us stay near or very near Lake Michigan and Green Bay. So, we embarked on five different locations for five individual nights. This was our third overnight, our second on the peninsula. What a wonderfully peaceful evening. The best word I can use to describe the lodge is just "peaceful". I say this to be clear-- People woke to just sit quietly out back amidst the view - but since I could not be quiet, I sought out someone to share the experience with. We found, we enjoyed!! Rooms seemed recently renovated- and that is my presumption since the owner said they just took over a year or so ago. Bathroom floors were new, as was the paint and the texturized walls. The decor is simple and muted, but not unflattering. The beds were comfortable and pillows extra fluffy!! Towels were fluffy and bed linens were super white and clean. There was a coffee shop on site called "A Little Bit of Coffee" which featured the Door County Coffee brand and boasted a variety of their flavors. We truly enjoyed this cute, little hotel and look forward to staying there for several days on our next visit to Wisconsin.
