Coming to the USA with nothing but two suitcases and 3 kids she quickly worked her way up to the Land Park neighborhood. A stunning house with 4 car garage, metal roof and pool. She loved old Sacramento and looked down on village or town or junky places. She too good for that. Piggy was too good for that. I thought it would be a little longer and scenic, but turned out to be a short 15-20 minute ride on a straight track from the museum to the old Sacramento baths and back then it headed back for another 15-20 minute ride back the same way. Pretty cool if you're a kid, but not that exciting for a college age teen and myself. The "free" snacks provided were anticlimactic as well. Really, the best thing about the excursion experience was learning more history from the super friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. They were ALL great! Instead we walked around above ground looking at old buildings and then spent about 5 to 10 minutes in an old basement and learned about how they used jacks to pick up the buildings after a great flood back in the 1800s. On the bright side, the tour guide was very friendly and informative. If you're looking for a quick hour long historical tour, this is recommended, but don't expect too much underground stuff, you won't get it.

Everyone in their uber got dropped off to different places. The directions also said to go to "the yellow building" -- but when we arrived, there were several yellow buildings. The tour guide also was not carrying a lantern, which was part of the directions given (look for the person carrying a lantern.) When we finally found her, we asked the tour guide where her lantern was, she said she didn't want to carry it around all night. We also believe the tour guide was late. We were in the area looking for her for about 15 minutes and we passed by the same spot she ended up being at several times and did not see anyone. Finally they called and we went back to the spot and she was there. This was around 5 minutes past the start time. Then she told us we only have until 7:30. So we are ending on time but she didn't start on time? The tour guide took us around to several bars, but the first one she admitted that it was not even haunted, or that she was not sure if the bar was haunted or not as she was not familiar with the bar. So I'm confused why we went there? There was also no indication that this was only going to be an hour and a half. It was fun bar hopping with our friends in some spooky places, but considering I paid almost three hundred dollars for the group I expected a higher quality experience.

We are huuuuge baseball fans so had to check it out. A wonderfully curated exhibit showcasing the lengthy history of baseball in Sacramento with a special focus on the AAA Rivercats and how they came to be. It was so fun to see the memorabilia and read the stories. The museum had other items on exhibit showcasing mining history and stories of the early settlers to the region. Cute gift shop with a variety of Sacramento specific items. I bought a few unique postcards and some wild flower seeds to grow blooms native to the region.

When I woke up the next morning, I noticed gum on the wall, which made me think, did they actually clean this room? I headed down to the front desk, and Dean was able to get us into a different room on the spot. It was a night and day difference. The room looked newer and less dated, so I guess some rooms are truly better than others. If there's one thing I can say about this hotel is that the staff truly went above and beyond to make sure we were good. Kudos to them. The staff is what bumped my review from a 3 to 4. Taking care of customers and feeling heard is a lost art nowadays, and the team here is doing a great job. Parking here is all outdoors and they have a private lot. It's $45 a night though, which we felt was hella steep. What we saved just gave it back in parking. There's a garage structure next door which is cheaper but paying slightly more was worth the convenience of getting in and out during the day. The location is the best part of the hotel. It's walking distance to Golden 1 and all the shops/restaurants in DOCO. Would I stay here again? probably because the price is affordable and the location is great.

The pool is small and the kids that were there were obnoxious - bad parenting, I say. Parking is $35 (!!!) so we parked in the Amtrak lot and walked a couple of blocks. The bed was not the firmest but I still slept okay. Dove toiletries were in the bathroom, shower water pressure was "drought friendly" and weak. There was a mini fridge, coffee maker but no microwave. However they do have one in the lobby area. We had the buffet breakfast ($35) and it wasn't too bad - fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, French toast, yogurts, pastries and sausage/bacon. If you just need a casual place for the night this will do in a pinch. If you're expecting luxury or a more modern hotel, I'd look elsewhere.
