However, this gives you a chance to chit chat and take your time. That being said, many projects took longer than the 3 hours. We didn't feel rushed, but I do wish it had stayed closer to 3 hours. I'd recommend thinking a bit ahead of time what colors you want to use and type of paint technique you might want to use. These decisions can take a lot of time at the beginning of class. We got to choose to make either a bowl, cup, or vase. You will do the work on every part of the process to make a piece, but the instructors are right there to make sure you come away with something to feel proud of. Everyone in my group chose to make a cup, but each person gets to choose their own colors and each cup came out with a slightly different shape depending on how the tools were applied. It was really fun to see each persons unique final product! I enjoyed this class so well that I'd like to go back again and make another one of the options.

I believe they cap the class at eight so that you truly get the attention and detail in training that you deserve. Our instructors, Rene and Lauren, were phenomenal. They were funny and relatable and made the entire experience extremely enjoyable. After going over the basics of safety and glass blowing, we went one by one and received individual attention to make our glass masterpieces. We were given the choice of making either a paperweight, a drinking glass, a bowl, or a vase. We were allowed to pick any color of glass that we wished, and I appreciated the insight provided by the instructors as to which colors would go together well. I ended up making a beautiful vase with a translucent jade color with pops of white. My husband made a drinking glass in green and gold. From start to finish it was an incredible experience and something I would definitely enjoy doing again. They give all the instructions at the beginning, then you work independently while they check in with you periodically. Everyone has a different learning style, so this teaching method may work really well for some, while others (like me!) might prefer a more hands-on, step-by-step approach. What makes this stop so wonderful is you can visit so many artist studios in the same location and see some of the other featured artist in their gallery. We saw at least 10 artist studios. All different mediums. My favorite was on the first floor and our last exhibit of the day. What caught my eye was a miniature commercial building in NY full of artist studio/homes. I talked to the artist and she said it was inspired from an actual building. She said when it first open ended it didn't have indoor plumbing. Over the years as you could see it became full fledged apartments. I'm so thankful that Verge has put together these Open Studios for us to explore annually. There is so much great artwork available for viewing and purchase in the Sacramento area. There are so many studios that open their doors all over Sacramento for those 2 weekends. We don't visit a lot of them due to the driving and time constraints. Parking- There is only street parking that we are aware of of. Beware of the signs as not all parking spaces are equal. Some have a limit for 2 hours not including Sunday and Saturday and Holidays, paid parking all the time, 1 hour parking all days. Bathrooms- They have 3 sets of bathrooms all on the first floor that I'm aware of. Some of them are genders neutral and others are labeled men's and women's Classes- Verge offers classes for children and adults. Gina's intro class was exactly what I was looking for - I went from zero welding experience to making a sculpture in a couple of hours, and I definitely plan to go back for the intermediate class at some point. Gina is a great teacher, and does a great job at making welding less intimidating. For context, I am a Software Engineer - so it wasn't like I was already a trades guy picking up welding. Even if you don't have a project in mind, the experience of welding something and getting to make a piece of art is so fun. I HIGHLY recommend taking a class here. This is a set of individual art studios showing off their pieces. Due to it's 2nd Saturday most of the artist were in there open studios showing off their works. There were so many great pieces. I had 2 favorites. I forgot the first studio we entered. She did a lot of beautiful landscapes. The other favorite was Erica Avila Art. I love the texture of her paintings. She uses acrylic paint and paints it on so thick that it's textured. I love it. They also had a nice spread of food for their guests. I had a little cup of delicious green grapes and a slice of apple strudel. It was a nice touch. I remember when I used to do 2nds Saturday. We used to serve wine.
