There are some great people who work at this gym, but be aware that it is almost impossible to get out of your contract if you move to a city that doesn't have an Anytime gym. You will keep paying and paying and paying. Cancellations are handled by a national office, and they don't care what your local sales associate told you. I wish I had never joined. read more

Such a great gym!! The staff is so so so friendly and helpful, and do an excellent job keeping the facility tidy and clean. A super convenient location, with a great atmosphere with lots of equipment with a great environment which makes Anytime Fitness the perfect place to get a workout in. They also offer additional services, like tanning and 1:1 workouts adding to the facilities repertoire of hidden gems. Great gym in an awesome location! This is one of my favorite Anytime Fitness locations because of the equipment. If you're a lifter and love barbells this is the place to go. They have about 6 squat racks and extra barbells if you don't need a rack. They also have loads of free weights and treadmills/ellipticals - and it is always clean! The only negative comment I have is that it can get SUPER busy because it is on campus and the staff seems to get a bit flustered and a little irritated if you try to grab a mat, jump rope, etc. during a group session. I recommend avoiding the lunch hour and between 430-6pm. The staff is friendly but aren't in your face about your form or getting you to sign up for personal training. They respect your space but are eager to help if you ask! :) read more

I hesitate to write a poor review for a place that has largely been pretty functional in my experience, but the issues that I have had at the end of my relationship with Anytime Fitness at East Campus Mall basically leaves a bad impression. First, the positives. I find that this location has much to offer, especially for someone who doesn't want to work out at the school gym: convenient hours, it's not crusty, never had anything stolen, trainers don't try to talk to you about signing up for crap you're not interested in, nobody actually tries to talk to you unnecessarily, no leering, bathrooms are (reasonably) clean, and it's close (if you live on campus). When I first signed up (2013), they offered $10.00 coupon thing that I could use as Fresh Madison Market once a month. I liked it...but then they stopped it and I dealt with it. I have noticed that in the past year, there was an increasing number of machines...that's nice, but the space was starting to get cramped; I dealt with it. What I am having trouble dealing with is the process of cancelling my gym membership. Please do not ignore the reviews about billing and cancelling with this location. I am no longer on a contract, and have even moved to the East Coast--there should be no doubts about my requests to cancel my membership. To be clear, I have always had a positive interaction on the phone with the person on the other line. However, a positive interaction has not helped me to speed up the process of cancelling my gym membership, which I have been trying to do since August, and is the point here. I have called multiple times, requested some call backs, even exchanged emails and forms, and was always assured by the person on the other line that my cancellation will be processed in a timely manner---I have yet to see that happen. So, if you meet the criteria in the first paragraph on the positive notes that I have outlined above, then yes, this is a good location for you. However, if you wish to save yourself some anxiety, frustration, and money because you anticipate having to break up with this gym at the time you sign up (because most people will at some point), then...well, you have been warned. read more

I needed a place to lift in Madison since I am will be here quite often. I know the new Nick gym is open right across the street but the price of this place was actually just the same for a non-student. This gym has about 6 squat racks and 2 olympic style platforms with good bumper plates. If you want to bench, you'll have to do it in a squat rack. No designated benches or incline benches. The pictures online currently in this Yelp page are not very accurate. They seem to have rearranged the place to make it much more open and from what I can tell these new deadlift platforms are brand new. All the bathrooms are exceptionally clean with very clean showers too if you need. To be honest, I've never really seen it get that busy in the summer plus it is 24-7 access to you could go at very obscure hours if you'd like. From what I've heard the Nick gym is quite busy so if you don't like that this might be a good choice for ya. read more

This Gym is Extremely Tiny and because it is so tiny it is really difficult to get time on equipment. It's like working out in a overly crowded garage. (There are plenty of treadmills though) It is very expensive for such a small ill equipped gym. $39 a month plus a large set up fee with a ridiculous contract. This gym does not have enough equipment. In fact there are no traditional bench presses and they expect you to do bench from the squat rack. There are only three squat racks. It is terribly difficult to secure a squat rack. There are zero lockers. They have an honor system for your stuff to not be stolen which makes me uncomfortable. There is also no supplements for sale either. For $39 one would think Anytime Fitness would have bars, shakes and supplements to buy for workouts. Speaking of honor, these people have none. I told the manager Nick Hansen I move for business constantly and did not want to be locked in on the contract in case I move, which I probably would move. He promised and assured me it would not be an issue if I had a Drivers License with a different address. I told him I would give my old Arizona drivers license and use my Oregon Drivers License one if I needed to cancel. When I went in to cancel he lied and told me I needed a "newly" formed drivers license. It is quite frustrating to deal with unscrupulous persons lying and saying anything to get someone to sign up and then when the person tries to leave they lie again to try and get them to keep paying. Has anyone ever heard of karma? Heard of doing the right thing? I signed up for the 7-day free trial at Anytime Fitness and immediately got an email and a voicemail telling me Anytime Fitness was excited for me to come in for my trial! I got a text about 10 minutes later, and replied saying I would be in that night to start the free trial. A prompt, peppy response came through, and I was ready to check it out! Upon getting into Anytime Fitness, I was told the trial was not happening because the Southeast Recreational Facility (SERF) was closed the same week. It was completely false advertising, used as a ploy to get me in the door and sign up for the membership. After going on the tour and leaving, I could not believe the tenacity of Anytime Fitness! They are utilizing the bait and switch ploy on individuals in the Madison area. I am disgusted by the lies of this business and will be telling all of my friends not to support such a corrupt business. read more

The location is convenient for students or anyone who works downtown. It's located on the campus mall with easy access to bike racks. I like being an Anytime Fitness member but this particular location can get pretty crowded and I wish there was more room between the lifting machines. The place is clean though and I feel safe leaving my purse in the cubby whole I work out. read more

I have had trouble with my personal training contract and billing payments ever since I started. They constantly try to take money out of my account without giving me personal training sessions. It's annoying and frustrating to have to complain to them all the time about their horrible billing and money practices. Like the other user who complained, they make a lot of promises about fixing the problems they create, but they don't follow through. Run away from this gym - run like the wind! read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. The manager was a little rude when showing the facilities to my friend and me. He guaranteed us a 7 day trial period where we could cancel our membership if we chose not to continue with the membership. It has been 3 months since I cancelled and I am still being charged... I have called in to correct this and it hasn't changed. Any time I go into the facilities myself, the manager is not available at the time. I am a college student who is not looking to get $65 taken out of my account every month when I don't have a key fob or access to a gym that I am not using and am not interested in using. There are way better gyms around the Madison area. It's even worth the bus ride to go to planet fitness or the Nat instead of the small, overpriced, unfair excuse of a gym on East Campus Mall. I have been completely violated by this business. I cancelled my membership well over a month ago, but was charged regardless. I was assured that the matter would be taken care of within 10 business days (ridiculous enough), however the refund never came. Not only have I not been compensated for the money that was STOLEN FROM ME, but they've TAKEN IT A SECOND TIME!!! That's right, I've now been charged TWICE since cancelling my membership. Every time I call, I am given the run around, and no effort to resolve the situation has been made. I have taken a tour de Anytime fitness locations in the Madison area. This has been my least favorite location. It's fine - open 24/hr is great. Machine options are fine. But I have noticed the machines are quite squeaky (need some grease!) and boy is it a tight space up there. I suggest being prepared to workout elbow to elbow if you go during peak morning/evening hours. But, it's great to have a location on campus. read more

This gym is the definition of absurd. I was a Lifetime Fitness member for 7 years prior to moving and joining Anytime and the two stand as polar opposites. Whereas Lifetime offers great service and an array of amenities, this Anytime Fitness does not. The facility is extremely crowded and the space is not utilized adequately. Moreover, the employees are TERRIBLE. Absolutely no help whatsoever and consistently standoff-ish. And, why fobs? Cards would be 100x more convenient. But, Anytime is banking off you losing your tiny fob and paying the $50 replacement fee (cards are virtually worthless and easy to replace). I have not visited other Anytime Fitness facilities so I am not sure if this is a company-wide problem, but the Anytime Fitness on East Campus Mall is certainly a gym you would be better off avoiding. read more

The overall space is small and can get crowded especially during peak hours (which is expected, but definitely worse here). However it is convenient for folks who work on campus and accessible via its location. I'm not particularity fond of the staff. I've had two instances where both staff persons were rude and didn't seem interested to ask if I needed any help. I once asked a staff member about a pair of clothes I left in one of the restrooms and she responded rudely and in a snobby tone - that nothing had been dropped off to her that day. The customer service at this location is poor and don't seem to give a damn about anything that goes on in the facility. Do not sign up for a 7-day free trial here!! Even if you cancel it within the proper time period, they will charge you anyway and not refund your money! I have been in there 3 times to ask them to refund the amount and each time they have said it will be taken care of. Instead of a refund, I just got charged again!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I had moved to Iowa for a short period of time, I notified the representative who got me signed up of this on the day I was registered. He advised that I can pay a $50 fee to cancel at anytime I needed to. I've been back and forth between states for the last 4 months, I paid for 1 month of not not using their facilities and then requested they freeze my account since I did not know when/if I'd be back. They were helpful and facilitated this for almost 3 months, before my next payment was due, I asked to have my account cancelled, they however charged me $50.24 for the upcoming month (even after I asked them to cancel in advance) and also said I have to pay a $50 cancellations fee, so in total I'm being robbed of $100 to not use their facility. The registration was $100, the key is $50 and your monthly fee is $50, so getting registered alone is an easy non refundable $200. They lack equipment, some of are broken and their prices are ridiculously high and they will rob you. Do not give them your bank account info, you will regret it, do not let them trick you into signing a contract, you will regret it. There's no point in contacting the corporate office because they're independently owned and not really a franchise. What a waste. I'm truly disappointed. read more
