I have dined at Aoyu in person, and ordered take out multiple times. The food is always delicious- fresh fish and produce. I also enjoy the kitchen apps and entrées- the miso eggplant and agedashi tofu are great appetizers. The salmon teriyaki is always perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh vegetables. As other reviewers have mentioned- the construction of the rolls can suffer at times- for me this usually looks like 1 at most 2 pieces losing their integrity when I pick them up. My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. Pretty much a basic selection on the menu, no real big surprises here, but it is all fresh and delicious. I came late to the restaurant around 2:30 PM with my party of four, knowing they closed at 3:15 PM. We made sure to order promptly so as not to inconvenience the staff. Food (4/5): The food itself was solid. The sushi quality and pricing for lunch are both pretty good. I ordered a two-roll combo and the omakase chirashi, which I shared with a guest, and both were fresh and enjoyable. The only downside was that our salmon bento box took the longest to come out, and since we prefer to wait until everyone has their dish before eating, it threw off the flow of the meal a bit. Still, for three lunch roll combos, one appetizer, a bento, and an omakase chirashi, the bill came to around $200 with tip, which felt fair for the amount and quality. Service (3/5): This was where the experience fell flat. Normally, dinner service here is fine, but this lunch service was disappointing. I understand the staff was rushing near closing time, but staring at us while we were waiting for our last dish to come out felt rude and unwelcoming. The worst part was after my husband signed the bill -- the server immediately asked, "How much did you tip?" before even opening the check book. We had tipped 20%, but I was mortified to be asked that directly, and her follow-up of "Okay, that's good" made it even more uncomfortable. She tried to smooth things over by asking if she had seen us before, but at that point the damage was done. Overall: I understand we came close to closing, but if that's going to be an issue, either don't seat us or make sure the service remains courteous. Food 10/10 Crazy that their omakase set for takeout is only 60 dollars and the fish is flown in from Totsuya fish market. Incredibly generous servings and the quality of the fish is superb. I was in actual shock when I took the first bite. The rice is alright, but the star of the show is always the fish so it doesn't really matter. So impressed by their supreme sushi and sashimi set. Awful dining experience. On New Year's Eve my wife and I went for a an early New Years dinner at Aoyu Sushi. It was early and not very crowded. From the moment we were seated the woman acting as a hostess/waitress/server was exceptionally rude and unprofessional. Every restaurant worker has a bad day. The sushi is elite level of freshness, and for the price, there is nothing I have experienced that is better. I thought I should do an update review since I haven't did a review since 2018. So because it is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I thought I should express my opinion about one of my favorite restaurants. Sometimes in N.Y. you can visit establishments and get a bad vibe and be treated differently with rude behavior and sadly it can be due to race or ethnicity. I've been to this establishments on many occasions and not once did I feel uncomfortable and I was always treated with great respect and hospitality. The food is amazing. Its delicious. It's always fresh and never did I have anything taste fishy, smelly or old. The ambiance is amazing. It's can be a great place for lunch or dinner. It can be for any occasion. I recommend anything that says tempura. The prices are fair, but I recommend if your on a budget they have a great lunch menu with good pricing. I walked into AOYU with great excitement, having heard many wonderful reviews about the food. My boyfriend swung open the door, and we took in the calming atmosphere. Only two customers were seated, awaiting their food. We were invited to sit anywhere we liked, so we chose a booth. As soon as we sat in the booth, the waiter stated, "We do not have lunch specials on Sunday." We then began reviewing the menu. The waiter returned and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We both requested water. Less than a minute later, a waitress came over to ask if we were ready to order. We politely told her we needed some time to look over the menu. She walked away but returned in less than a minute again, asking if we were ready. We reiterated that we needed a couple more minutes. She left but quickly came back once more, saying, "You ready now?" At this point, it had only been about three minutes since we had started looking at the menu. When she returned yet again just 45 seconds later, we were completely put off. It was unclear why there was such a rush to take our order, given that there were only two other diners in the restaurant. Feeling annoyed and pressured, we decided to leave. As we walked out, we thanked the staff, but the experience left a bad impression. I live in South Riverdale, and after this visit, I am unsure if I will return to AOYU. A great meal starts with great service, and unfortunately, this visit did not meet expectations. read more

My cousin and I are both sushi aficionados and have been almost everywhere in Westchester and Fort Lee, NJ. This cute place is definitely in my top 3. The nigiri is perfectly sized and has a good rice to fish ratio. The proteins are PLUMP AF and super fresh. The star of the show has to be their toro scallion though. Melts in your mouth. Looks like I found a new soosh spot. We hail from Yonkers and if I'm being frank, Westchester sushi is very mid. Hubs and I were looking for a quick date night spot after my shift in the ICU, and this one is *chef's kiss*. We were seated fast, the ambience is nice, and the service is quick. Fish was fresh, seaweed in the sushi was crispy, and toro isn't priced as if it's from a super rare endangered species of sea creature. I loved it and he did as well. We went for a couple of staples, which both came with miso soup and a salad. Chirashi lunch (10 pieces of sashimi over rice): the fish was very fresh... I thoroughly enjoyed it; however, there was very little rice, and I left hungry... Considering how far you have to go to get here, you'd expect the $18 "lunch deal" to have more rice. Sushi & sashimi lunch (3 pieces of sushi, 9 of sashimi and 1 California roll): this $19.50 lunch "deal" was more filling. The fish was fresh, but I didn't find the whole thing to be particularly memorable. The roll was boring. Overall, I'm not sure I'd take subway AND bus all the way to this place again.
