My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. They provided an assortment of yummy fresh fish which were all very good. Portions are big, so I was stuffed and happy. Prices are more than reasonable for the quality and amount of food you get. It's definitely a great value in Riverdale. I have been ordering from here on and off for years, and the consistency is unreal. In terms of pricing, I thought it was on the higher media price of food in the area, but thought it was delicious nonetheless. I had ordered sushi rice cakes and also got a chicken teriyaki. Other dishes that we had gotten included a garlic shrimp and one of the Dominican rolls, the De Lo Mio Rolls. We all enjoyed our food. Only note that I'll give is that we got the main combination courses for the garlic shrimp and the chicken teriyaki. My dad wanted to sub out the rice for plantains, but ended up not getting the miso soup and we were charged for a whole side of plantains. I ordered a sparkling water that was served in a sealed blue Saratoga bottle along with a cup of ice. Since the bottle was sealed, I poured my water into the cup without thinking twice. We enjoyed our meal, paid the bill, and stayed for a little while to chat. Before leaving, I picked up the cup to pour the rest of my water into it. After taking a sip, I looked down and saw a small roach floating in the cup. I immediately notified our server, who took the cup away. A few minutes later, he returned and told me that the manager said I could receive a discount the next time I visited. That wasn't what I asked for, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting anything at all. He also mentioned that he tried to get me a refund, but the payment had already been processed. What disappointed me the most wasn't the lack of compensation and it was the complete lack of accountability. The manager never came to speak with me personally, despite the fact that I could have potentially ingested a roach. A sincere apology and a direct conversation would have gone a long way in handling such a serious situation. As someone who lives nearby and wanted to support a neighborhood restaurant, this experience was extremely disappointing. I hope Giesha takes food safety and customer concerns more seriously in the future so that no one else has to experience something like this.
