Mountain Brook has always been a good course for the value. I played here just before the new year and the course is in pretty nice shape. The greens are smooth and good speed for putting (probably around a 10 on the stimp meter), and they hold shots (was spinning back wedges and stopping mid-irons close to pitch mark). There's no real rough here...the rough is trampled bermuda so the same length as the fairway. There are well-placed bunkers to guard errant drives and shots, and desert for really off-target shots. The course was busy but the pace of play was good, around 3hr 45mins. The views of the Superstition mountains are great. Not quite as impressive as their neighbor courses up the mountain, but knowing I saved $150-200 vs those courses and still had a good experience is a nice takeaway.

The real kicker though is I have a very "picky" wife and she doesn't like most places, she now wants to return once a week and she asked about volunteering there.
