One of my favorite places to have lunch in DC. Apapacho has indoor and outdoor seating and does get busy at times. Service is fast. I don't think I've ever waited longer than 10 minutes for my food. You order at the counter or by QR code and wait for your number to be called. If it's not too busy, they run plates out to customers. The interior is bright and inviting. I was happy when they opened inside of La Cosecha. My go to order is the Suadero tacos, Mexican coke, and chips & guacamole if I want to splurge. The tacos are delicious on their own but take them to the next level with the assortment of self serve salsas/sauces. My favorites are the ash habanero and the creamy habanero. read more

My absolute favorite taco place in the DC area. It has taken me years to find a taco place worthy of visiting. The consistency here is one of my favorite aspects, it tastes great when you dine in but the food is also great as takeout. The tacos are filled pretty generously and there are plenty of salsa options for you to pick yourself. Service is super fast and even when they're busy, staff is super on top of it and attentive. Drinks are great too - you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. My personal favorite is the carnitas taco, the carnitas are super tender and flavorful. I also enjoyed the suadero. I love that there are so many options of meat, the shrimp taco is great as well. It's easy to eat 4 of these in one sitting. read more

We had a Taco Party on a surprisingly warm Monday in March. When it's 75 degrees everyone needs a patio in their lives so we stopped here because the last time we wanted to give them a try they were closed. To our surprise they had happy hour. After some recommendations we opted for a few tacos each, chips & guacamole and swirl margaritas. The service was fast and friendly, we received the margaritas right away. I had a highly disappointing experience at this establishment, specifically with the cashier, Melvin Leonardo. When I asked for a refund because the guacamole was incredibly watery and lacked flavor, Melvin became visibly irritable and annoyed. Instead of handling a basic customer request professionally, he acted as though I was intentionally trying to give the business a hard time. Worse layout, his attitude felt noticeably targeted and dismissive toward me as an African American customer. Customer service should be consistent and respectful to everyone, regardless of who they are. Fortunately, I did receive a full refund, and I gladly took my money to a business that actually values its customers. I won't be returning. read more

Celebrated Cinco de Mayo supporting local Mexican restaurant, Apapacho Taqueria! I'd always passed this place while in Union market and finally decided to give it a try. The place was packed of course as everyone was taking advantage of the live music (mariachi band) the food and the drink specials. Even with the restaurant being packed I feel like the team did a great job of managing the lines and the wait didn't take too long. I ordered their 3 taco special and tried their Al pastor and carne asada tacos. All were delicious and reminded me of tacos I've had in socal. Not as good but very close. They offer fresh salsa and any other toppings you may want (cilantro, lime). Overall I would come back again. I've heard that their breakfast tacos are great too but only served on the weekends. The best tacos I've had in DC! They are still quite expensive (at least compared to street tacos or from a food truck) but the taste is well worth it. Their meats are well-seasoned, they have a variety of salsas, and they are bursting with flavor, reminiscent of tacos from Mexico! They also have some great alcoholic margs and you can choose between hibiscus or cucumber. Both count for the happy hour deal from 4-7 PM and the staff are kind enough to put chamoy and tajin on the rim. One of the best taco spots in Union Market. Every taco is flavored perfectly and I love the corn tortillas! I also love their pastries cookies, in the salsa bar. The service is pretty quick when it's not too packed, but it doesn't matter because the food is worth the weight. You can find seating inside or you can find seating inside LaCosecha. Nestled by the old Union Market facade this Taqueria is a local legend. My wife and I were a bit early on a snowy holiday weekend and we thought they were closed. To our delight we arrived just a bit too early and as they opened that day one could see why this place was a go to spot for many as people began lining up real quick. My wife always orders their selection of breakfast tacos with guac and chips to go along with them. I'm the type of person who is always down to eat tacos as long as they are authentic Mexican tacos, meaning they are making tacos with freshly made tortillas along with freshly made salsas. That's exactly what you'll find at Apapacho. I ordered 5 tacos and they were all fantastic. My favorites were the Suadero, Carnitas, and mushrooms. My only complaint is that I wish they either lightly fried their tortillas on the griddle or doubled them up since I found that tacos tended to fall apart a bit once they soaked in the juices from the meat and salsas. The service was friendly and quick. The tacos were reasonably priced. I also tried their Oaxacan chocolate cookie which was pretty good. I look forward to coming back soon. read more

I really wanted a good taster of the menu so we tried (from top to bottom on the first picture) the taco Al pastor, chicken milanesa taco, vegetarian mushroom taco, taco de carnitas, taco de Baja shrimp, and another chicken milanesa taco! This place is a must try if you're in the mood for a new taco spot. It's a literal hidden gem nuzzled inside La Cosecha Market in D.C.'s Union Market neighborhood. Their curtained service was great and the ambiance was a vibe. I went during their Thursday night salsa/bachata dance class and the music and vibes were dope and I enjoyed listening to music while I dined. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was delicious. I tried the mushroom tacos and they're 10/10 a must try if you're looking for a vegan or vegetarian option. The tacos can be pretty light so if you're looking to fill up, I definitely recommend ordering 2-3 for your meal. There's also a free parking lot in the back of the market and street parking and garages within close proximity. This may be my new top taco spot . read more

So excited that I finally got to try Apapacho! I love that they have a salsa bar that you can load up on so you can customize your taco just to your liking. We got the mushroom taco and the baja shrimp taco, which were both really delicious. We also split a concha and some agua fresca, which made for a very tasty meal. Service was solid -- I ordered and paid up front and then someone from the kitchen brought me my tacos when they were ready. The tacos are flavorful and filling, I love the variety of toppings and sauces. The lengua, campechanos and shrimp tacos in particular were delicious! I was drawn in by the colorful bright restaurant. Tried the chicken milanese and brisket tacos. The chicken taco was delish I liked the textures of the papas fritas and chicken. The chicken was well seasoned with great flavor. I would have liked more seasoning on the brisket, but that was taken care of by an array of salsas you can choose from. The tacos were so good I had to go order more. Next tried the shrimp on flour tortilla (default is corn tortilla) and fried corn quesadilla. I thought the chicken taco was good, but the shrimp on the flour tortilla was A1. The acidic element combined with the well seasoned shrimp and the flour tortilla!!! Delicious - I will get the flour tortillas from now on. I tried the fried corn quesadillas. I tasted mashed potatoes and crema. The corn I tasted was the corn tortilla that encased the potatoes. The texture didn't seemed fried. From the name I was expecting something different. The chips would have been elevated by lime and salt. Overall the vibe of the restaurant was care and attention. I saw prep cooks making salsa and sauces, so you know the food is handmade. The staff were all friendly and the food came out quickly. I will definitely be visiting again. read more

After touring a nearby venue, we popped in here to grab lunch. Most of the spots in the complex are shared seating, but this one had its own little spot. The tacos were amazing. This is a solid spot around Union Market for tacos! The portion for their guacamole and chips is very respectable for the price. There's nothing remarkable about the tacos here, but they're pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a decent taco. Finally got to try Apapacho and was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I ordered a gringa, suadero tacos, guac' and chips, and the campechano tacos. The campechano tacos were definitely our favorite- the meat was so well cooked and seasoned. While I enjoyed the tacos, I found the tortillas to be a bit underwhelming. Their salsas were also just okay. However, their meats and the chihuahua cheese in the gringa really stole the show. As a San Diegan, I was stubbornly committed to not trying Mexican food while on the East Coast because I thought I'd be let down. But, I guess DC is the place to do it? I wanted a quick dinner and was in the Union Market area, so I decided to stop at Apapacho (it is also one of the rare restaurants in the UM area that has a decent rating). The taqueria isn't in the actual Union Market food hall, but is part of La Cosecha. Thankfully, they have a full kitchen to work with, which pretty much guarantees the food is going to be fresher. I ordered three tacos: one carne asada, one milanesa, and one oyster mushroom. They also have cochinita pibil, suadero, lengua, fried shrimp, and other fillings. I think this is one of the rare taquerias I've been to that has such a wide range. I also arrived on a weekday during happy hour tacos, so the milanesa taco was $4 instead of the usual $4.75. A taco pushing almost five dollars to me is pretty whack, but they were surprisingly substantial. The standouts were the milanesa and the carne asada. The carne asada was tender and smoky, and I liked the thin, crispy potatoes that topped the milanesa (it's like a thin, Mexican chicken schnitzel). The oyster mushroom taco is good in theory, but I think the oyster mushrooms were sliced way too thin before frying; I could only taste the batter. I also think the corn tortillas could be a little more sturdy--maybe double-wrapped is the way to go? They did not stand a chance against the saucier fillings and fell apart immediately. Aside from that, Apapacho Taqueria was solid and spoiled SD citizen approved. read more

Cute new taco place in La Cosecha! I love the decor and vibe of the place. There's also ample seating inside as well as in the main area of La Cosecha. I tried the Campechano and Carnitas tacos. The tortillas themselves are on the small side which makes the portion look really small, but I actually thought the amount of meat/filling is comparable or even more than other places, so I think the price is reasonable enough. I loved the carnitas taco - my one complaint is that it was a bit greasy which made it very messy to eat. But I did like the chicharron which added a little bit of texture, and I appreciate that they don't skimp on the onions as I think it helps cut through the heaviness of the meat. I also love that they have a variety of different self-serve sauces and salsas at the front, so you can customize the flavor of your taco a little bit more. Definitely will revisit! read more

So imagine my surprise, when I met my Mahjong pals at La Cosecha, and all of a sudden, I caught a whiff of ACTUAL legitimate Mexican food. Yes, not all Mexican food is tacos, but tacos are life. I do not exaggerate when I say I went around the whole food court trying to find that smell, and I found it at Apapacho. To me, all their tacos are amazing. They have a "serve yourself" salsa bar that will not disappoint. Whether you are looking for the mildest green salsa or the spiciest habanero, you'll find something to suit you. The tortillas, which are homemade, and nixtamalized in-house are delicious, but inconsistent. Some days they are perfectly soft, and other days they are dry and tough. STILL- I would argue that this is the best taco in town. The service is friendly and efficient, and if you are lucky, maybe you can catch the owner at the counter.
