Update. Extremely disappointed. I was overcharged, for a simple ear piercing, which is outrageous, especially considering what I received. Just a month later, my right ear is swollen, discolored and clearly not healing properly. This raises concerns about their sanitation practices. no options, no upgrades. Oct 2023 I had a slight mishap and needed to change the piercing. Amber told me at time of piercing in Feb 2019 to just call and she can swap it out anytime as she does this service for other clients. I always tip as a courtesy. A guy answered the phone and said Amber is there and there is a charge. I had a problem so I did not feel comfortable changing myself at the moment. Although the fee was nominal, I am deducting one star based on original information from the piercer. Amber has good customer service. The change back to the flat back 14kt yellow gold earring caused significant pain level such as initial piercing from the 14kt yellow gold hoop which was purchased somewhere else as not sold at this establishment. Omg and yikes! Problem if the hoop is completely 14kt gold as a problem in the manufacturing since 14kt gold does not tarnish. I found another establishment that solely does piercing and carries a vast selection in products including 14kt and titanium and after a month got a different 14kt gold hoop and 2 other piercings, zero pain surprisingly for all services. Do not go here. I went with a friend for piercings and if I had seen the red flags my friend had (I was already sitting in the chair) we would have immediately left. The jewelry for our new piercings were kept in one drawer, all unwrapped and unsterile. The piercer didn't change her gloves between piercing me and my friend, and both my friend and I's piercings were botched. Hers was at a 45 degree angle through her ear, and mine was in the complete wrong spot. Their website says they are blood borne pathogen certified but that is not reflected in their practices or procedures. read more

I got my second today and my fiancé got her first. Jax worked with both of us to get the design we wanted. My fiancé can change her mind quickly and he was very patient with her. I was more set on mine and he took the design and made it even better with some changes but keeping the original thought. During the work, he was funny and we were both comfortable in the shop. My daughter had her ears pierced previously by Claire's but they were constantly infected so we let them grow in. She was finally ready to try again and I took her to the Apex Tattoo Factory. I had called ahead and asked if they did walk-ins, to which they said yes. Me and my fiancé walked in to try and get our matching tattoos, only to be told that although they do accept walk-ins, we need to call ahead to make sure we can be fit in (so basically make an appointment?). The gentleman at the front told us he would talk to one of the 3 artist who were there, to see if they would accept our tattoo request. Mind you, I was only asking for a simple 4 letter word on our fingers, in red. So we waited for a tattoo artist (who was just sitting in his tattoo room chillen) to come and talk to us, after waiting for about 20 minutes, the tattoo artist came out and said "I was told you two wanted finger tattoos, which I don't recommend since they fade (I am covered in tattoos btw, arms and legs and HANDS)" I said, I understand and I'm okay if it fades, we just want to know it's there, plus I have other finger tattoos that have held up pretty well. He said "well I don't do red (since we wanted the words in red)". I told him my finger tattoos are in red, so I'm not sure what the issue is. All this conversing and such happened for about 10 more minutes on top of the 20 minutes that we sat down waiting. Only to be told they wouldn't do it. What a waste of our time. We were willing to pay for our tattoos, and accept the fact that it would fade if anything. All that time spent talking, the tattoos could have been done 5 minutes each and we would have been on with our day. This will be my third tattoo, but my first in the state of NC. I had dreamed about getting a sincere daddy-daughter tattoo for a while. My daughter and I spend a lot of time doing Jeep'n together and I wanted a tat that could put both my love of Jeeps and my daughter together in one image. My daughter, Sejal, 12 now, originally built the concept, but Jax put depth, color and detail to it that was completely original. Most important, he allowed my kid to hang out in the tattoo parlor during my 4-hour session, he provided refreshments throughout my session, breaks and would bring her in to discuss color and detail. He knew this was important to me and included my child in the process. This was very professional and shows the value Jax holds for his customers. We talked throughout the application and I must say, it was really enjoyable. Unlike others shops I've been to in the past, Jax and his staff (Erin, D-man) understand the biology of tattooing (I'm an immunologist, so I was surprised by his knowledge of clinical dermatology, this must come from decades of tattooing experience). Erin was professional on the phone, by email and in person, honestly, if you had called thinking this was a clinic, you would have never known it was a tattoo parlor. This shop provides a "service for body art", that is probably the best way I can say it, all his work is custom and made-to-order, you will find no "prints" in his shop, only art. How do you pick the right shop and artist when there are so many out there? I look for three things 1) Good customer service - so reviews and in-person visits (the "feel" of shop and its staff); 2) The hand of an artist (not just a print specialist) and 3) Custom designs. What got me the first 20 seconds after walking into his shop - which made me realize he was a true business professional - is that Jax took the time to reach out his hand, look me in the eye and say "Hi, I'm Jax, welcome to Apex Tattoo Factory" with a smile. This basic and simple customer service action is missing from so many businesses today, not only tattoo parlors, but many establishments. About a month ago I stopped in at Apex Tattoo Factory. Erin, Jax and D were there and I liked them all right away. Jax seemed to be the one who was going to assist me which was fine. Essentially, I had a 25 year old shoulder tat that needed to be updated. Jax was able to see me the following Saturday (11/4), he asked for a non-refundable deposit to book the appointment (that would be applied to the cost of the work) and off I went. The following Saturday I showed up at my scheduled time. Jax took me in just a little late and proceeded to get to work. I thought he was professional, worked clean and knew what he was doing. While he was working we discussed the idea of doing a sleeve on the same arm and Jax suggested I shoot him an email with some thoughts on what I'd like to see so he could design something. The shoulder tat came out great. His after-care instructions were spot on too. My tat was healed in a week. While checking out I asked how long before he could get back to me (once I responded with my thoughts on the sleeve). Jax thought a week to 10 days. Again I had to leave a deposit for the design. He explained that it would be applied to the work if he performed it. The next day I sent him a detailed email about my thoughts regarding content for my sleeve. At this point there was a bit of a hiccup in communications and once we worked that out all has be progressing quite nicely. I've been working closely with Jax as he designs my ever-evolving sleeve and have been coming in every 2 weeks for the past 2 1/2 months like clockwork to add more and more. We are finally nearing completion. Jax is great to work with. He gets a pretty good read on your tolerance for pain as well as time in the chair. I prefer to get it over with rather than take a bunch of breaks and he is ok with that. read more

I went in to talk with them about getting some work done, and to discuss possible options. When I walked I told the man at the front desk what I was thinking about getting. He handed me a business card, and told me to email the artist on the card what I wanted done. There were no portfolios in the store of their work, just one computer with links to their work. I get that they may be working on other clients and they cant just stop when someone comes in the door, but other options as opposed to just emailing someone would be nice. The next person through the door was told pretty much the same thing. The staff was not rude, but they need a better system when it comes to consultations. It pains me that I felt the need to write a yelp review due to a horrible experience. My spouse and I try our best to support local businesses within the community. I found out about Apex Tattoo Factory from one of the artists that work there. After seeing the art pieces on their website, my spouse and I decided to get two pieces done. We scheduled our first appointment three weeks away and paid our deposit. The artist told us that he would have the sketches ready in about two weeks and we could see them and make sure we were all on the same page. However, as the date approaches, we are told that no sketches have come together due to a time issue and that sometimes people put things together in their head that are impossible. Even if this were true about, our tattoos, I believe that you should be upfront about the issue upon meeting with clients the first time. We paid a deposit on a lost cause. During this process, there were no questions initiated to us, the clients. It's less than a week away from our appointment date and the artist tells us that he doesn't have anything worked out. At this point, we still try to work with the artist to set up a date to meet or ask for a postponement and we are met with what I can only describe as attitude. We understand that tattoos are an art form and take time. We understand that this profession feeds your families and pays for your bills and your time is not free. However, the person being tattooed has a right to feel confident that you can get the job done. The customer is paying into an investment that they will carry around forever. Basically at this point we were thinking that perhaps this particular artist wasn't right for us at this time and we asked for a refund of our deposit. Why shouldn't we? The artist has told us that he hasn't done any of the sketches, he doesn't understand what we want, and what we want is impossible. However, this didn't matter to the manager or the artist and we were denied due to a shop policy that isn't even on their website and wasn't explained to us. In the future, I suggest you all be upfront and honest with customers in the future so that professional and personal relationships can be built. We were hoping have a really awesome experience and the tattoos to prove it. Now we just feel cheated. read more
