My nephew and his fiancee recommended this place when we came to visit him in Syracuse. And I'm glad that they did. It's basically your hipster pizza joint. I didn't realize this was one of the top-rated places in Syracuse, but it was an okay experience. The pizza was great, but the service could've been a lot better. I had some tattooed dark-haired guy as my server, and I kept asking him for soda and it was like he ignored me. But oh well, I didn't tip him. Hopefully he learns his lesson. Our favorite restaurant! We are "sit at the bar" patrons, and Apizza Regionale has a great bar for viewing the pizza oven and restaurant activity. The bar staff puts out some great cocktails. Big shout out to Katelyn, our favorite bartender, who mixes up the best manhattan in Syracuse, in our opinion! She is friendly, knowledgeable and she can guide you through their drink menu to find your favorite libation! She will also recommend a good appetizer to pair with it. What a wonderful find in Downtown Syracuse! The restaurant is cute and very inviting. The inside was bustling, very nice, and smelled of divine food. The patio is absolutely gorgeous. The menu looked so wonderful, we had a hard time choosing. We decided to share a bunch of things so that we could order both of the desserts. We started off enjoying warm olives and cheese which were just exquisite. We then moved on to a panzanella salad which had lovely tomatoes, peaches, corn, bread, and ricotta. One of the nicest panzanella salads we've ever had. Being that one of us is a vegetarian, we opted to share the basic "Apizza". (There were some wonderful sounding meat options for me to try next time!) The crust was almost impossibly thin and wonderful with a lovely sauce and cheese. To be honest, it was one of the best pizzas we've had outside of NYC and New Haven, CT -- absolutely outstanding. Desserts were also incredible with both the Olive Oil Cake with whipped mascarpone and blueberries along with budino (chocolate and hazelnut pudding). We really struggled to find anything at the restaurant that was less than spectacular. They were busy, so the service was slightly slow, but we were grateful that they got us in and we understood. Had a family dinner at Apizza Regionale last night and was very impressed. I'd driven by the building so many times and had no idea it was so warm and well decorated inside! Our server, Mona I believe, was the absolute sweetest and made the experience even more positive. We had street corn (pictured), meatballs and fried zucchini as appetizers. All tasty. A variety of pizzas for our meal ("Patata" pizza pictured; which was good but would've been better with just a sprinkle of salt). And after telling Mona that the lemon Olive Oil cake we chose for dessert (pictured) was okay, but we wished it was sweeter - she brought us the other dessert option, a rich chocolate mousse, free of charge. I have been dying to check this spot out and I finally made it down there and it was worth the hype. The atmosphere is so adorable and it was all decorated for Christmas when I visited. Ok not entirely native to Syracuse, apizza comes by way of New Haven CT. What makes New Haven-style pizza distinct is its thin crust, charring(wood fire oven), chewy texture, and limited use of cheeses. The space is eccentric to say the least. There's the bar overlooking the wood fire oven, Italy inspired art lines the walls. And the feature that takes the spotlight? How about the hanging meat, peppers, and garlic on hooks reminiscent of an old Italian market........It is truly a glorious space! On to the food.... Apizza Regionale is Pizza, salad, and sides. The place was packed with a 45-minute wait period to be seated, but there was space at the bar. Being alone, that is where I headed. The bartender was very attentive and friendly with an incredible infectious laugh. The menu was right up my alley with organic ingredients and wood fired pizza. I ordered a fabulous bottle of wine, the crispy zucchini as an appetizer, a wood fired sausage based pizza for my entree, and a dreamy chocolate mousse like desert with peanut brittle adornments. Yum. All of it. The zucchini came in quarters and was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and it came with a fabulous spicy sauce. The pizza was really, really delicious and had the aroma of wood smoke with a great sauce. The dessert was very rich and incredibly chocolate-ly. I took half of it home, as it was a sizable portion--it would be good for sharing. I am not much of a dessert person, but I'm really glad that I tried it. With the Pizza ovens fired up right there on the same room you'd never know bc it wasnt the least bit hot inside. Sat down after a 30 minute wait. Came to Syracuse with my daughter to check out SUNY ESF. We arrived early so we looked for an interesting place to grab a bite. Apizza Regionale fit the bill, so we came in during the late lunch hour. Ambience was great, the customers seemed to be enjoying themselves and despite the crowd the servers did not seem rushed. The scent from the wood-fired oven was very pleasant! We decided to order two of the lunch specials. This gave each of us a personal pizza and a mixed greens salad, but we ordered different an wastipasti, which we shared. The zucchini fritte was great, but the highlight of the meal for me was the pork store arancini. My daughter got the garlic and broccolini pizza while I got the rucolo pizza because I wanted to try the smoked prosciutto. Every bite was awesome! This brings me to a point about our personal perspective: we're from Northern California and farm to fork restaurants such as Apizza Regionale are extremely rare (despite California being an agricultural haven) and usually only found in wealthy suburbs or small towns along the coast. The price of our lunch specials were $15 each. At home it would have been two to three times that price! Finally, after this great meal we couldn't resist ordering their olive oil cake with a seasonal fig jam and a chocolate hazelnut pudding with homemade almond brittle. I'm supposed to be avoiding sweets, but felt no guilt treating myself to such a wonderful little exclamation point on the experience. If you live anywhere near Syracuse and haven't visited Apizza Regionale, all I can say is "get moving!" Apizza is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in Syracuse. Although, I would add, my first visit was a 3.5. In fairness to the restaurant, it was an exceptionally busy night and not only did my pizza take a long time, but it was burnt in several places. However, I loved the vibe and the bartenders were super helpful and attentive, so it did not dissuade me from trying it again. AND I am SOOOO glad I did. I introduced my sister to the restaurant (she's a big foodie and has dined at several Michelin-starred restaurants around the world) and she loved it - so kudos to the team at Apizza. I also found that it is a great place to go before a Syracuse Crunch game. They change their menu seasonally (as you'll notice with my pics) and have different specials. My go to Pizza is the APIZZA Pizza with Arugula. Helpful Hint: Ask for the Calabrian Chile Oil - it's a great add to any pizza. There is some parking in the front, but as you will find, it's not dedicated to Apizza - there were a ton of Dinosaur BBQ customers there. But there is plenty of street parking. And if you go to a Syracuse Crunch game, park near the War Memorial - then walk or Uber to and fro Apizza, then enjoy the game. read more

Atmosphere is great, and on a cold night the giant pizza oven definitely brings a homey feel. I started with the Pork Store Arancini - great flavor and way more cheese than I was expecting. For dinner I had The Calabrian pizza. Had good flavor... I asked for light sauce and extra cheese. It was just ok. I felt like there was barely any toppings on the pizza, maybe 4 pieces of soppressata. So that was disappointing. The chilli infused local honey was sweet and no spice which I thought there might be. From the generous salads and appetizers (warm olives with cheese anyone?) to the mains and pizzas made for two (or one in the event of a big appetite) this place can't be beat. It is busy, and the dining room somewhat small, so be prepared to wait for a table. It will be worth it. Service is great and the pizzas come out quickly. This place, like many others, depend upon a brisk take out business, which makes things move a little slower when dining in. This appears to be a trend we will need to expect.
