This used to be my favorite pizza place. It has recently been bought by a new owner who claims they use the exact same sauce, dough, etc.... I don't believe this. The last 2 times we have gotten pizza have been awful. The crust tastes like cardboard, no flavor at all. The sauce and cheese also don't taste like they used to. The Hot wings we ordered had almost no flavor as well. So disappointing. Oh well. At least we have Mario and Salvos. read more

So I had ordered 1 cannoli, 1 large cheese, 12 hot wings and 12 mild wings. I never received a cannoli and only got 24 mild wings. I called to inform them of the mistake and they said "we don't have anymore cannolis" so I guess they just figured it's okay he already paid we just won't give him anything. Haven't been in many years but this used to be a lunch time staple when I worked in Widewaters. Headed home and was dying for a slice. wanted something other than the undercooked pizza I had been getting at other pizzerias and it did not disappoint. After all this pizzeria was rank high by Dave Portnoy. Enjoy the nice crisp crust and gooey cheese. Dining area is nothing fancy but don't expect much at a pizzeria Went about a hour before closing so they were in process of cleaning up. Wings and Pizza were good but they had no ice for drinks and limit choice of bottled drinks. But I did go for Pizza and will definitely be back sooner rather than later. read more

I was in town for work and wanted to try a different pizza place , dinner and leftovers for for lunch next week few days I walked in and ordered , took probably 15 minutes, price , size and looks great . It tasted good , typical pizza . My two complaints are the crust is extremely chewy, after two pieces my jaw is tired . And they need to push on the pizza cutter a little harder. We just got back from Mexico and needed some good pizza and immediately thought of Pavone's. It was absolutely needed and delicious, just chose the classic pepperoni pizza. The service is great, bunch of great guys. Making me laugh while I waited the last few minutes. Got in to pick it up and last minute decided to grab a chicken bacon ranch and buffalo chicken pinwheel. Just overall a great atmosphere in there but sped home to chow down. read more

Stopped in for a couple of slices on my way to a meeting on this side of town. Got a slice of cheese and a slice of garlic. Man I could eat this pizza every day. It's so good. The right amount of salty, the right amount of sauce. The right amount of "grease" on the pizza - love it so much. Decided to get a garlic knot while I was there too. Love this handmade garlic knot. They were pretty busy, especially for 5 pm. They must have several regulars, but also had a lot of people walking in. The wings were amazing! The hot wasn't real hot. And the pizza was really good, even cold the next day. Will definitely go back. Many of those coming in were ordering the garlic rolls and pepperoni pinwheels. In a cute shopping area. Pizza tasted great. Pizza took a long time which is fine. The one issue was the huge air bubbles on every slice. I've worked in a few pizza establishments in my time and both places would never serve what we got. Instead the cook dropped it on our table without saying a word and walked away. Ordered a Hawaiian pizza online to see how it compares with others we've had. As always, the crust is impeccable, the sauce and cheese are delicious. The pineapple topping was fairly skimpy, and at first I thought that they had mistakenly put on red onions, but it turned out to be very thin strips of ham. An even skimpier portion. We ordered takeout from this place so keep in mind that it wasn't super hot by the time we ate it. That said, without it immediately out of the oven, it is never the most fair assessment. We ordered because of Dave Portnoys review on the OneBite app. I think the prez had an accurate review when he gave it a 7.6. Solid, good, football pizza in my opinion. Pavone's came up quick for top pizza places in Syracuse. We've been to their locations at downtown, butternut st, and bridge st. In terms of people and atmosphere, I strongly recommend bridge street if it's all the same to you. The other two seem to be staffed entirely by parolees, and the way they would be portrayed on a badly written sitcom. On butternut street, one of the guys took a call from his girlfriend while he was helping a customer, put the phone on speaker, and then had an argument with his girlfriend about their relationship issues. When one of the guys making the pizzas caught on, he jogged up to the counter and picked up where they left off. Honestly, it was too funny to be upset. I was waiting for my pizza anyway. I only went to the bridge street location once, and it was about 5 minutes before closing. They were guarding the door with their life before I told them I was there for a pick up. Then they all walked out with me and locked up for the night. Still friendly enough people, and none of them got into an altercation in the 4 minutes I was there. Anyway, we keep coming back because the pizza is as good as they say it is. Reliably perfect NY style pizza every time. One of our favorite places to get buffalo chicken pizza as well. It seems extra greasy with breaded chicken and perfect with bleu cheese. We got the chicken parmigiana on a recommendation, but it was about as plain as it could be. Also didn't come with pasta. Their wings are standard issue as well, and ran us $16 for the dozen. We always seem to order late from here, and they're always out of pinwheels. We always ask, and order a few if they're in stock. It's a great side for the pizza and only 1.75 a piece. It sounds like I'm complaining a lot in this review, but we're actually very fond of this place. Pizza endures all things. Just don't expect to be greeted by Jeeves, keep your order centered around pizza and you can't go wrong. read more

I ordered from Pavone's Pizza a few weeks ago. The order was on-time. Though I opted for leave-at-door delivery, the driver hung around at the main door (which is within view of my apt door) for a few seconds to make sure I got my pizza, which I thought was extra nice! I got a plain cheese pizza and cheesy garlic bread. The cheesy bread had loads of melty mozzarella, which made for a nice balance of flavors and textures compared to standard garlic bread. The dough/crust ratio of the pizza was a little much for my personal preference, but the pizza was still cheesy, warm, and delicious. Their menu is nothing fancy or extravagant, but they have a good selection, and plenty of choices for vegetarians. Pricing is reasonable. Would order again! In fact, Pavone's is now my local pizza default. read more

HORRIBLE eggplant parm sandwich. I urge the owners to take this off the menu. The eggplant is like rubber and I can't even bite into it (see photo). I thought I was eating plastic at first. I have never in my life seen rubbery eggplant and don't even know how you would cook it to make it like that. The pizza ranges between 3-4 out of 5 stars. Stick to the pizza, Pavone's. The eggplant does nothing for your menu and actually detracts from it. VERY DISAPPOINTING, as they even charged us more than listed on the website (charged $7.75, vs. $6.25). I get that prices are higher many places bc of COVID, but if so, take the old menu down. read more

I found this place on One Bite, where it received a decent rating. My wife and her friends were going to be in East Syracuse one Sunday afternoon, and they picked me up some grub. While this may be closer to a 4.25 or 4.5 in my book, I decided to go with a 5 since the curve will work itself out. We had a pepperoni pizza, a cheese (to go with the One Bite, 'cause everyone knows the rules), and a few pinwheels since they came highly recommended. The pizza was stellar. The crust was solid (not too thick, not too thin), the undercarriage held up, and the sauce was excellent. The pinwheels were like savory cinnamon rolls, with Buffalo sauce or ranch replacing the frosting and chicken or chicken and bacon the cinnamon. Phenomenal stuff, for sure! I didn't think to take pics, as it was the opening Sunday of the NFL season. You get the idea. I'd go back next time I'm in the area. read more

I really don't have any complaints when it comes to Pavones. Good pizza great customer service. I like that Pavones offers small pizzas for those who want more than a couple slices but don't need a medium which is the smallest other pizza places normally offer. This is one of my favorite pizza places. I have not been here much since Covid. Never at lunch. 2 out of 5 staff wore masks 2 did not and one had his mask over his mouth. Wearing masks are not mandatory for patrons many/most are not. I know I have been vaccinated but I will bet most of the people have not. I grew up in Syracuse and lived on Pavone's Pizza for a good decade and a half. I haven't lived in Syracuse for a good 30 years but come back to visit family. This time we were on a college visit to SU and stayed in downtown Syracuse. It was a Saturday night and we ordered a large cheese and large pepperoni pizza. Of course I had talked Pavone's up to my family etc. Unfortunately, the pizza has changed drastically, as things do. The days of the really thin, crispy crust with the right amount of sauce and cheese are gone. The pizza was good, I guess, but nothing special that you couldn't get from any pizza place. The crust tasted fine but it is thick and chewy. Change is good sometimes but not when it comes to your favorite pizza. Bummer. read more

Pavone's is my go-to when I want pizza. We ate in this visit. There are plenty of booths that are roomy and comfortable. We order a large pizza-half pepperoni and half cheese plus a garlic knot. When the pizza came it was just cheese. I mentioned it to the person who took the order. The man who made the pizza came to our table and said he'd make it again. The pizza was piping hot, very cheesy, and loaded with pepperoni on one half. They have a full menu but I've only had the pizza because that's why I go there. read more

Tried to order online and couldn't place a future order so called to place an order for an hour out, but it saved me 95 cents they charge to place the order online. Arrived to get the pizza and they couldn't find my order, said I probably called another location... I pressed redial on my phone and called them and they looked it up by phone number and found the order under a different name. It was ready but even when I said what the order was, they didn't recognize it and said no I didn't place the order there instead of asking for my phone number originally when they couldn't find it. The pizza itself has a lot of crispy crust and I'd rather it be more doughy but it was decent. The plain cheese had some spices on it to make it flavorful but I preferred the pepperoni. It was greasy enough to soak through paper plates but the boxes held up. Ordered 2 2-liters and it didn't come with any cups and other places include them. Not a big deal but useful to know. There was nothing wrong with the food but it wasn't spectacular. read more
