This review is for Nede or Nida whatever her name is, she does eyebrow threading in a seperate room here at apna bazar and let me say she sucks! I went to her during this quarantine cuz my eyebrows were in need badly, she was recommended to me by a friend. I took the chance and went to her and let me just say i'm pissed. I told her i like arch eyebrows and i even showed her a picture of my previously threaded brows. She made my brows thin and forget thin she made one side somewhat of an arch and the other side straight round looking with some missing hair spots. Also her threading is slow which causes more pain than usual. If you love your thick brows and arch shape then ignore going to her. Now i have to wait for idk how long for my brows to get thick again so I can get it arched by someone else. So disappointing! read more

Been a regular customer of this store for a good 12 years.About 10 years ago I bought packets of frozen seekh kebabs.As I went to cook them they all had green fungal on them I opened up 3 more boxes and they were all the same.I called the store and returned them and got my money back and also called the contra Costa health dept.Fast forward to Monday Dec 30 I picked up Barfee box Indian sweet made from milk and Gulab Jamaan which are the sweet browns browns.On News day I went to eat them as tou have to refrigerate them....the Barfee had green fungal spots on them.This tells me that they have been sitting for god knows how long in there store and have not been able to turn around there merchandise quickly.Barfee sitting around too long will go bad.There was no label on the box to say when it was packed or even a use by date since it's a milk product.But the owners should still know when they got the product and how long it should stay on the shelf before being pulled as it will go bad.The Gulab Jamaan box I took a bite and it was just absolutely disgusting the taste was just appaling.I know about Indian sweets or food since I'm indian.All I can say is stay away from this place,it seems to me the milk products or other products are sitting on the shelves for way too long and instead of them discarding them which is what they should do they leave them on there for God knows how long and continue to sell These products which is a major concern for people's safety with these tainted products. I WIOULD NOT RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE AT ALL.STAY AWAY. read more

Unfortunately this is the only Indian store in the area which is why we have had to go there a few times. They basically get all their stuff from Milan store in Berkeley and sell at twice or thrice the price of Milan. (Because they know we have no choice). A few of us have begin boycotting the store and get our Indian items from Milan now. I have no association with Milan but the service and the pricing compared to this rip off store is worth checking it out. This couple is so cheap and will fight with you for pennies. If you can't go to Milan or any other store elsewhere, there is a small Indian store in Oakley. Go there but stay clear from here. (Also notice, that the other comments are by Americans and not Indians, that's because we know that these people rip us off. Americans have no way of knowing the price so they think it's a good deal. A gem of a grocery store! Small, but big on personality and a good selection of Indian groceries and media. We shop there for vegetarian options and for quality daal (lentils) at a very good price. The owners are very helpful and warm, often helping us make selections from items that would otherwise be unfamiliar to us. We dropped in today to pick up some items and commented on one of the Bollywood films that was playing on the TV and the owner gave us a free comedy DVD with our purchase to enjoy! This is why we like to support local ethnic businesses! read more

I'm English, living in California and I long to make my own curries. I've looked literally everywhere for 'Pataks' sauces & pastes which are great for a base for making my Indian curries. My wife and I stopped at this place (on spec) simply through Yelp's recommendation. What a gem of a store, lots of great Indian food groceries and the owner could not be more willing to help us. She was very friendly, too. A fantastic selection of items - I will for sure be back. She even said she would order in items if she did not have it on the shelf especially. Customer oriented, consistency and passion is how I would describe my visit and shopping experience at this gem of a store. Fully loaded, well priced and well stocked with a large variety of Indian groceries that cater to every palate. Been going here with my wife for several years now and its been a wonderful experience. The husband and wife team is cordial, caring and very responsive to your every need and thats why they have been in business this long. Great place! The owners are very nice and so helpful. I came in looking for two things and she took the time to walk with me and give suggestions on products.
