I finally made it out to Apna Bazaar and it was a real treat! It is a large market stocked with lots and lots of goodies from Pakistan, Turkey, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, and the United States. They specialize in the cuisine of Muslim areas and have Halal offerings prepared in accordance with religious rules. The had a guy taking Turkish bread fresh out of the oven and a Pakistan i/ Indian restaurant in the front. They have loads of snacks and spices. Cooking utensils. Beverages including non-alcoholic brews. Sweets such as date and coconut cookies. I saw camel milk which seeks interesting. Lots of cheeses. Milk beverages (the mint is rich and creamy). People were friendly and accommodating to me. I know their is a sizable international community at USF and there are lots of international food grocers and eateries in this area on Fowler. MD Market is a couple blocks away for Chinese / Taiwanese and East Asian foods. Patel Brothers for Indian is across the street. There is a Korean Grocer and lots of ethnic restaurants in the area. I had lots of fun visiting and found lots of things to try at reasonable prices. I wonder if they have Turkish cotton candy? Don't try it or you'll be hooked. Armenian / Syrian string cheese is great too. I will be back!!!

Plastic in cookies

I bought cookies there and found a hard piece of plastic inside one of the cookies, which miraculously I felt before swallowing it. The plastic felt as sturdy and as sharp as a shard of glass. The brand was called Ambala Indulge Strawberry Jam cookies. I am petrified that there may have been pieces of plastic in the other cookies that I did eat.

the inside of a restaurant

Stopped here's tonight after eating at Potillos. It's sign says International Bazaar so we had to check it out. Once inside it looks like a Middle Eastern grocery store for the most part with a small restaurant and little shops selling various home goods, clothing and a whole section for hookah supplies. It's a good size market with a great selection of fresh and frozen foods and unique things that can be hard to find. We did buy a few things but will certainly be back when we are needing to stock up. I held back one star because some of the prices were a little higher than surrounding stores but all in all we liked it.

Garlic Naan ($3) (2 in this pic)

Gouken: What do you see in front of your fist? Ryu /Ken: My fate Dan: This delicious tandoori chicken! Gouken: You are henceforth banished from this dojo! DAN: Nooooo! OYAJIIII (Father!) This review is applicable to the Apna Grill inside the grocery. I ordered 2 items for takeout. You go to the cashier and give them your order and then wait at the seats. My order took about 20 minutes. There are 4-5 tables spread out if you want to dine in. They were wearing masks when I went. Garlic Naan - ($3). These were hot and fresh. They were cut into halves (Semicircles). Great garlic taste and soft! They were comparable to Jai ho on fowler (and most Indian restaurants in the vicinity) 4/5 Mixed Grill ($17) - This is a mixture of meats. Tandoori Chicken x2, Chicken Boti (Boneless), and Seekh Kabab (x4). It was garnished with onion/lettuce, and tomato slices. It also came with a light green yogurt mint sauce for dipping. the food was medium spicy and was filling. 4/5 Cons: The second tandoori piece was really two small fragments of chicken and IMO the price was a bit much. I think $13-14 would have been fair. Nonetheless, it was a satisfying meal for a small cafe that is not a dedicated restaurant.

Curry leaves!
Shuné D.

They were a few things I needed for a South Indian recipe that I wanted to make. Since curry leaves are very hard to find in Tampa Bay, I decided to go here. This is a good-sized Indian/Mediterranean supermarket with all of the necessary spices you can think of for any related recipes/cuisine. It's located off of Fowler ave. in the Temple Terrace neighborhood. They have a wide assortment of dried spices, snacks, produce, refrigerated, and frozen foods. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find fish tamarind a.k.a. Kodampuli or malabar tamarind for my Kerala fish recipe. However, I did find everything else to complete what I needed close enough. They also sell kitchen ware. Finally found a new roti dawa here! They have an Indian style cafe if your hungry on the shopping trip there. Glad I looked this place up.

Tilkka Masala
Amy D.

Visited the Apna Grill inside the bazar and the food was delicious. Great portions. I ordered the Tikka Masala and cheese Naan. The grocery side had many international options, including halal sirloin. Other standout items: dates, baklava, pistachio biscuits, teas, rice, and ingredients for regional dishes. Must try!

Gross meat. Not organized properly. Opened and not sealed.

But the half star is…read morejust for something off with the service...it wasn't bad, but I think it's probably just a cultural thing...it was a little rushed initially with the ordering process. My friend and I ordered an appetizer and also a naan that was not on the menu but that they had ordered before and they were able to make it - but not this time. Also while we were talking and maybe apparently taking too much time to order entrees the server seemed a little quick/abrupt with us to get our orders in, but also during/after our meal, just the feeling of being rushed but we didn't let that impact how much time we spent at the table. (Note, there were very few people dining and it was late afternoon/early evening, so not that they were trying to close)... Anyway, the Taj Special app was really good! YUMMY and also got the Kashmiri naan....WOW! ALL so good. Then after we finally ordered our entrees, and still munching on appetizers, entrees came out. Nice and hot. Butter chicken, which was super tasty... I was so excited about all my food, I forgot to take a photo and I have no idea what my friend ate LOL... Overall, I really enjoyed this place and will be back!

When we inquired, we were told they were serving dinner. We ordered chicken curry, butter chicken, and tikka masala. Each dish came with only about 8 small pieces of chicken, with no naan and a small portion of rice, which didn't match the description or presentation online. The taste was underwhelming, with disappointing flavor and portion sizes. Unfortunately, the owner was unwilling to work with us on this.

BOGO special - When checking out the menu online I noticed the Buy One Get One free offer which is online-only and available throughout the day. From my knowledge you can't mix and match the items that are on the BOGO menu. We ordered the Butter Chicken and within 20 minutes it was ready for pickup. Super quick! I was a bit surprised that two servings of butter chicken only came with 1 serving of rice so this is something to keep in mind when doing the BOGO special. We ordered another serving of rice for an addl $6 and an addl order of garlic naan. The rice was beautifully flavored with spices and pieces of clove. The butter chicken (mild and no-spice) had large chicken breast chunks in it and a beautifully fragrant sauce. The garlic naan came with 2 pieces per serving, and had fresh garlic and parsley on it. I did think the naan pieces were on the thinner and drier side. Would definitely return to dine-in and try out the biryani dishes and chicken palak/saag!

I got the chef special Bangoli Fish Masala. There is a choice of bone in or boneless fish. I got the boneless fish. The gravy of the Bangoli is very special and delicious. It was around 4:30 PM, so I wasn't sure they'd be open, but they were already serving, so I drove over. It's a new spot, open for about a month. The two ladies running the place were very attentive, and I happened to be the only customer around 5 PM. Normally, when I visit a restaurant like this, I order three or more dishes to sample a variety and enjoy the leftovers at home over the next few days. But since I won't be home until midnight tonight, I went with a single dish to test the waters: chicken tikka masala. I give that an A--flavorful and well-prepared. The rice was decent (I'm not a big fan of rice in general), so I'd rate it a B. The service was excellent, also an A. I even tried the rice pudding, which surprised me--I usually don't care for it, but theirs was genuinely enjoyable. Another A. The only downside: they don't have a tandoor oven yet, so the naan was the store-bought kind you'd find at an Indian grocery. It didn't quite match the quality of the entrée. I'd give that a C. Hopefully, they'll add a real tandoor to their kitchen soon. The ambience is typical medium sized family owned restaurant, but bright and easy. The toilet was also well lit, and clean. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. Promising start for a new restaurant.
