I finally made it out to Apna Bazaar and it was a real treat! It is a large market stocked with lots and lots of goodies from Pakistan, Turkey, U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, and the United States. They specialize in the cuisine of Muslim areas and have Halal offerings prepared in accordance with religious rules. The had a guy taking Turkish bread fresh out of the oven and a Pakistan i/ Indian restaurant in the front. They have loads of snacks and spices. Cooking utensils. Beverages including non-alcoholic brews. Sweets such as date and coconut cookies. I saw camel milk which seeks interesting. Lots of cheeses. Milk beverages (the mint is rich and creamy). People were friendly and accommodating to me. I know their is a sizable international community at USF and there are lots of international food grocers and eateries in this area on Fowler. MD Market is a couple blocks away for Chinese / Taiwanese and East Asian foods. Patel Brothers for Indian is across the street. There is a Korean Grocer and lots of ethnic restaurants in the area. I had lots of fun visiting and found lots of things to try at reasonable prices. I wonder if they have Turkish cotton candy? Don't try it or you'll be hooked. I bought cookies there and found a hard piece of plastic inside one of the cookies, which miraculously I felt before swallowing it. The plastic felt as sturdy and as sharp as a shard of glass. The brand was called Ambala Indulge Strawberry Jam cookies. I am petrified that there may have been pieces of plastic in the other cookies that I did eat. read more

Stopped here's tonight after eating at Potillos. It's sign says International Bazaar so we had to check it out. Once inside it looks like a Middle Eastern grocery store for the most part with a small restaurant and little shops selling various home goods, clothing and a whole section for hookah supplies. It's a good size market with a great selection of fresh and frozen foods and unique things that can be hard to find. We did buy a few things but will certainly be back when we are needing to stock up. I held back one star because some of the prices were a little higher than surrounding stores but all in all we liked it. read more

Went inside to have some Indian snacks and ordered Samosa Chaat and french fries along with Mango lassi. In the scale of 1-5 1 being low and 5 being high, I rate it 1. The samosa chaat was so bad and cold. The fries they were frozen and air fried. With no salt sprinkled. It was the worse. Threw away everything and came off. One gentleman said you don't know if they serve you chicken or beef so be careful. The food area was not clean, the store was as well. No proper maintenance. They were cut into halves (Semicircles). Great garlic taste and soft! They were comparable to Jai ho on fowler (and most Indian restaurants in the vicinity) 4/5 Mixed Grill ($17) - This is a mixture of meats. Tandoori Chicken x2, Chicken Boti (Boneless), and Seekh Kabab (x4). It was garnished with onion/lettuce, and tomato slices. It also came with a light green yogurt mint sauce for dipping. the food was medium spicy and was filling. 4/5 Cons: The second tandoori piece was really two small fragments of chicken and IMO the price was a bit much. Like today, I got a pristine watermelon for $3.99. Breadfruit, huge knobs of ginger, ripe avacado, mango, roma tomatoes, kabocha, bunches of green onion, eggplant-- just some of the items that I found today also. 2. Ready-made/frozen breads- Fresh, soft Turkish breads, stuffed breads, and frozen naan, dosa, and paratha are a must. 3. Spices - So many spices and meal idea spice packs to choose from. Just walking down the spice aisle gives me so many meal ideas. 4. Frozen meals- Also, a great place for ideas. The vegetarian options being my favorite, even though I'm not vegetarian. 5. Sweets section- by the entrance there are racks and racks of baklava and other sweets that I end up buying almost every visit. Anything pistachio... The menu says on the bottom disclaimer "If you have food allergy or dietary requirement please inform the kitchen" but when I asked about my allergy he frowned and said the chef is too busy and I don't know what you mean! I've been looking forward to the new Apna Bazar since I found out last year that they would be opening a new location in the old Sports Authority building across Fowler. I was excited because this new location is Huuuuge. They are really giving Patel Bros. a run for their money. I live on the other side of town so I popped in today to get some frozen halal items along with ginger garlic paste and mustard oil. I got everything I was looking for and if it weren't a work day I would have stayed a lot longer and shopped for more new items. There is a large variety of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi items as well as other Mid-eastern grocery items as well. I even found a few Asian items (they sell Filipino banana sauce here). There is a halal butcher in the back of the building, fresh produce and also a variety shop for non grocery trinkets that I didn't check out in my time crunch. As I was checking out I noticed there was a sign on the side that said "Apna Grill." I asked the lady checking me out about the grill and she responded with, "it's very good." That's all I needed. I put my bags in my SUV and came back in. I got 2 chicken samosas to go and grabbed a menu. I went to Kung Fu Tea to get my customary boba drink when I'm on that side of town and while I waited I ate 1 samosa. It was so good I wished I bought more. They had vegetarian and chicken available and I would have grabbed them all for dinner. It came with mango chutney and another yogurt-like tarter sauce that I'm not familiar with. When I got home I was nice enough to give the other to HubbyStanks since he said he hadn't had lunch and he was blown away by the flavor of the samosa. When I unpacked the frozen groceries he saw that I bought frozen samosas and lamb kebabs and he was like, "let's have that for dinner." Ugh, these frozen samosas are not going to be as good as the ones served in the Apna Grill, for sure. I can't wait to go back when I have more time to look around. They were a few things I needed for a South Indian recipe that I wanted to make. Since curry leaves are very hard to find in Tampa Bay, I decided to go here. This is a good-sized Indian/Mediterranean supermarket with all of the necessary spices you can think of for any related recipes/cuisine. It's located off of Fowler ave. in the Temple Terrace neighborhood. They have a wide assortment of dried spices, snacks, produce, refrigerated, and frozen foods. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find fish tamarind a.k.a. Kodampuli or malabar tamarind for my Kerala fish recipe. However, I did find everything else to complete what I needed close enough. The cashiers and most of the employees weren't wearing a mask even tho there's a sign that says in the door to put on a mask! When i told the cashier she said it's hard to put it on for 10 hours. While I agree that wearing a mask is hard and inconvenient your customers safety and health should be a priority. On another note: the meat in the freezer was not properly sealed and lacks basic sanitary conditions. Great place to get ingredients you wouldn't find elsewhere. My friend was making pho from scratch so he was in need of some pretty specific ingredients that you don't find at your neighborhood Publix. We started at MD Oriental, but there were two spices he couldn't find. He also was prepared to go to a butcher to get beef bones. Lucky for us, I called Melony R. while we were at MD Oriental and she said we should check this place out to find our missing ingredients. She was right! We ended up finding everything else. Funny enough, the two things we ended up getting at Publix, cheese cloth and jugs of water, we couldn't find here. They have a fresh meat section in the back where you can get filet and beef bones! It looked pretty legit. If I lived closer, I would get all my meat from there. This place is pretty big. It definitely fills a niche and has different ingredients than what you'd find at Publix or even MD Oriental. People who live in this area are super lucky! read more

If you're of Indian or Mediterranean decent, you can get tons of cooking items here that Publix doesn't carry. They have fresh meat that looks really good, and more unusual cuts if you're looking for that. The BEST international foods market I have been to! We live in Sarasota, but this is worth the drive to come and stock up on goodies! As we study the world this year within homeschooling, we needed specific foods for specific countries and were pleased to find entire aisle dedicated to different countries - Bangladesh was the most recent we studied and we found so many goodies for it! Absolutely delicious food and friendly staff. I've tried many things on the menu and I have yet tried something that I didn't like. My favorite item on the menu is the beef Chapli kebab. It's so delicious! That and the butter chicken with the garlic naan. You get a pretty big portion size as well. If you cook With fresh whole spices you have a selection of every type you can imagine. I bought fresh star anise , as well as whole green cardamom, and all the ingredients I need for my butter chicken.A grill for dine in lunches is available at the front area, I purchased a dozen vegetable samosas, as well as two chicken samosas. The vegetable samosas we're stuffed with potatoes and were extremely Spicy and delicious included with the samosas is an outstanding tamarind sauce. Awful customer service, rude cashier. Attitude from all employees and managers is bad. Selling over priced mangos, only 5 to 6 in a box for 32 dollars and some have spots or are hard and green. They won't allow a swap to have a box of nice mangos. Many of the goods, to include the Henna are expired. They take cases of Restaurant Depot Halal meat and just repackage it and raise the price. They seem to feel that since it is an ethnic store, they don't have to worry about competition. We wanted to buy from a Muslim business but not to be treated badly, sold expired products and pay higher prices than other stores. Taking our money elsewhere. Disappointed. read more

So we did a Yelp search and this place came up. As far as the restaurant goes it's in need of some updates but the food was pretty delicious. Apnea Bazaar definitely has everything if you're looking for an Indian/Middle Eastern grocery store this is the place. They've got a lot of different vendors inside they had a really nice jewelry counter, they've got various shops and a whole lot of groceries. I felt a little overwhelmed with all of the choices. In my ignorance I didn't know so many types of Naan existed. I was raised vegetarian and I've been exposed to produce from around the world and there were a few items I didn't even know what they were. So to say a large selection of produce is an understatement. If I'm in the mood to learn to cook traditional Indian or Middle Eastern cuisine I will definitely come back to get the ingredients to make my dish authentic. read more

This review is specifically for the Apna Grill restaurant located inside Apna Bazar. The food at Apna Grill is not good at all. As far as menu goes, they serve pretty much the same stuff that many other Indian (and Pakistani) restaurants do in the Tampa Bay area. There are no Pakistani/Afghanistan kabab/BBQ restaurants in Tampa. Apna Grill has the potential to do great if it changes its menu significantly to include a wide selection of kababs, poori parathas and other Pakistani BBQ items. Yesterday, I was told that the biryani was fresh. So, I ordered it. Rice was hard. Biryani was bland. Naan is good but not like the Naans you find at restaurants in Chicago. Apna Grill needs to revamp their menu 100% and serve Pakistani food that no other desi restaurants in the area do. read more

Paid $26 for food but was surprised to know you do not get a glass for water unless you buy a water bottle for $1.59.(which I figured out after reading the menu, lady at counter did not utter any thing when I asked for glass of water at the time of placing the order. If she had mentioned water bottle for $1.59, i would had bought one) Food taste was below average.
