I LOVE Indian food, but admit to being picky. I discovered this delicious restaurant, and attached market when looking for lunch beyond the hospital cafeteria - what a delightful discovery! Now my dad and I look forward to dining at Apna every time i am visiting. Both the menu items and the buffet are delicious. It is one of the best Indian buffet I ever eaten! The dishes are always hot, as the buffet is popular the dishes are replenished frequently so it is fresh, and there is a good variety of veg and non- veg options. The market has a good assortment of Indian staples as well as frozen Indian meals for quick work lunches as well. A great find! read more

Real Good! I went on the recommendation of an Indian friend. I'm an Indian Food Neophyte, so the Lunch Buffet was perfect for me, with a large variety of both meat and vegetable dishes, all labeled so I know what to try. Awesome! Delicious! And a wide variety - probably three dozen - dishes at the Lunch Buffet. The Goat Curry and Butter Chicken were stand-outs along with the Flatbread and the Gulab donut-ball. The only drawback? The staff doesn't speak English well, which is great for authenticity but difficult otherwise. In you're in the area, this is a must try! WARNING! My vegan friend & I were making an overnight trip from Chicago to Columbus IN. I figured there would be NO vegan options in this area, but Googled it anyway. Apna popped up. It's in a tiny mall that really doesn't face the street so we drove right by it. But I called & the gentleman that answered the phone was most helpful with directing us back to the restaurant. ABSOLUTELY they HAVE VEGAN! More than enough selections for my vegan friend. The food, as well as the staff, were WONDERFUL & we were able to choose just exactly how spicy we wanted it! Went for lunch with husband. Had lunch buffet. 3 of the main course dishes had tiny bristles all throughout the sauce!!!! It was so gross!! It's like they just added a ton of sauce to cover up that the brush they used to slather whatever coating over the meat, was loosing all its bristles!!!! Every single bite had at least 3 to 4 tiny bristles! How can they serve that to people? Three of the dishes! I didn't try every dish so I don't know if it was in others. I will never go back again! If I could I would have given it 0 star!!! Worst experience ever & we go to so many restaurants around the country. My husband & I were on a business trip & super hungry as well as excited to try stuff on the menu as we are big foodies. We ordered two appetizers, Manchurian cauliflower & vegan veggie pakoras(menu mentions onion, potato & cauliflower). We received the Manchurian cauli which we really liked but unfortunately didn't get to finish even though we payed for it because when the pakoras came out they were all eggplant when the description didn't mention eggplant at all. We kindly asked the server why it's eggplant instead of the veggies mentioned in the description & he said that the owner upgraded the veggies(which makes no sense & which should've been mentioned before ordering). Instead of taking it back so we could order something else as we didn't get what we ordered he started arguing with us & saying that they changed it up. So we asked to speak to the manager to which he said "I'm the manager". We asked why the change didn't reflect on the menu & he said you need to speak to the owner about that not me. If you're the "manager" it's your job to point that stuff out to the owner not the customers!! Instead of apologizing about this whole situation he just wouldn't stop arguing with us & made a whole scene. He was extremely rude & never have we had customer service in a restaurant THIS BAD!!! Whoever the owner is needs to look into getting better employees who know how to speak to customers & be humble about mistakes/changes. Pls fire this so-called "manager/server" of yours or you'll be out of business in no time. NEVER coming back here & warning everyone who tries to even step foot into this restaurant!!! Had lunch at this place today with three of my friends. Buffet is good compared to most Indian restaurants I have been to. The whole atmosphere was ruined for all of us there when the server (he functions more like a manager there) got in a rude argument with another customer just came in and headed to the buffet to self serve food. The server/Manager was loud and rude saying it is not ready for the customers to start taking food yet, after all of us were seated and drinks served. Very unprofessional and affected all of us who was there. We could see that the other customer was polite and apologetic for something that is not his fault. They need to learn to be professional and polite I their service. Otherwise the food won't taste the same. Hence the low rating. read more

This is the best Indian food around. Our favorite Indian restaurant is in Cincinnati... but it looks like we will be staying in Columbus from now on. Great manager and super clean environment. Apna Kitchen never disappoints. Their lunch buffet is always full and hot. The severs are constantly circling the restaurant making sure you have enough naan and that your beverages are full. You can always count on them to have some of the most desired Indian food like butter chicken and chicken 65. My vegetable platter was filled with mirchi Bajji instead of pakoda and when asked for the reason the waiter tried to convince me that pakoda and Bajji are all the same. Great Indian food. Thank the Cummins engineers for this gem in a sea of blah. The lunch buffet is the only way to do it so you can try a little bit of everything. You will eat too much as there are countless things you want seconds of. There are items I have tried that I dont like but that was due to my taste preferences not the quality. The buffet has a very impressive variety and good turnover. It is a little crowded but usually with young engineers which gives the place a good energy. For dinner i believe it changes over to a sit down and order place. If I were to eat dinner here I believe it would lose at least one star as the best thing here is the great variety. You can't get that from ordering off a menu. For lunch, this is probably the best restaurant in Columbus. read more

Excellent food!! We are from out of state and glad we chose this place for lunch buffet on our way back home. About 10mins off I-65. Buffet had tons of veg and non-veg choices and every item was delicious. Priced right. Service was excellent, place was super clean and the interior was pleasant. Little hard to find the restaurant as it was in the back of a building. GPS led us to their grocery store which is in the front of the building. Hope they maintain the quality and we would like to return here next time we drive through Indiana. Heard they also have a branch in Indianapolis somewhere. read more

Be very very careful about trying this for your first time. You will actually crave the food the next day. We have been here several times for Sunday brunch and the food is fresh and outstanding. Vegan and vegetarian options are clearly marked. My teenage son loves it here too. Noon seems a little late to start a Sunday brunch, but it was worth it each time. I'm not sure if that was because of the day or if it is always that way but it was perfect for sampling. The cuisine is somewhat spicy and I tasted cinnamon too. Buffet Review As a novice in the authenticity of varying cuisines, I will base this review solely on taste, service, and value. Taste Apna Kitchen was by far the most flavorful Indian Buffet I have ever been too. They did not have Chicken Tikka Masala which I was bummed about but as I said before everything else was quite good and extremely flavorful. There was a strong taste of cumin and garam masala in most of the dishes and although sometimes seeming heavy handed, I would say that I enjoyed it a lot in comparison with other Indian Buffet's flavors. The chickpea salad was very refreshing and ended up being one of my favorite dishes on the buffet. The sauces were on par with every other Indian Buffet I have been to and the pickled sauce and tamarind sauce were both the best of their kind I have had. The complimentary garlic naan was also the best I had ever had from any Indian Buffet. One bonus Apna Kitchen adds is a complimentary spiced tea latte as well which was also decent. As far as food, Apna Kitchen stands out in every category. Service This is where Apna Kitchen stands out above all other Indian Buffets. Not only were they very nice (I have rarely ever been to one where they aren't) but they were also quite lively. The music wasn't any typical Indian restaurant music but rather a beat driven Indian style of music which I can imagine was playing from a college students iPod. The staff was also young and seemed to really enjoy each other which made it a fun place to be. After getting up to get more food, you were always guaranteed to come back to an empty table. They were very fast at clearing the table of finished plates, much faster than I had ever seen without being a bothersome. The staff deserves 5 stars. Value. $11.50 was approximately what I had to pay, excluding the tip. I didn't get a drink, so this is the buffet price alone. Was it worth what I paid? I would say that it was a well above average buffet and for $8-$9 I would definitely go back frequently. For the price of $11.50 I would have to say that I probably won't visit this place out of my own pocket often. Although I think it separates itself from the rest of the Indian Buffets I have been too, the others are also much less in price and this is definitely something I take into consideration when deciding on where to eat. The average price I pay at an Indian Buffet is probably $9, excluding the tip. Although I enjoyed this buffet, I cannot bring myself to pay that great an amount for a meal. read more

Weekday lunch buffet! Stopped in around noon and wow, the place was totally packed! In fact, it continued to be packed with people waiting for the entire time we were there (we were busy talking, so slower lunch than usual). Neither of us are vegetarian, so while it's great that there were multiple vegetarian choices, simply not our style, but thankfully there were a few chicken choices too! Yummy food, fresh naan baskets delivered to the table, & also some other Indian crepe like thing (don't remember the name). The only down side is that the way they have their tables set up feels kind of like a cafeteria, which might bother some people. I was in the Columbus area for a week and Apna Kitchen took the cake for the best meal of the trip! Chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite Indian dish and they did an EXCELLENT job with it! The mango lassi also made it well worth the trip. One of the servers said March 17, 2014 on their beer/wine license. The food is a little more on the spicier side, so I'm glad I asked them to make it "mild" for me... Which ended up being a little spicy, and that's exactly what I like. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options as well as gluten free options. The menu is so big and you have so much to choose from. I can't say enough good things about Apna Kitchen in Columbus. The food is amazing. We went for the lunch buffet on Sunday. Lots of vegan options (plenty of non-veg as well, if that isn't your thing). There is always a fresh salad bar and several dessert options along with yummy chai tea. The dosas are delicous. My favorites from today's buffet were the bangan bharta, mushroom curry, and sambar with idili. During dinner hours you can order from the extensive menu. The restaurant itself is beautiful; everything is new and immaculately clean. The service is fantastic. Apna Kitchen knows how to treat customers well. Suresh and his team will make you feel warm and welcome from the moment you walk in the door. I left stuffed and will definitely be back many times! The only thing I would change is the distance from Indianapolis- it is a long, but very worthwhile drive! read more

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised. It would be a little tricky to find if you don't know Columbus. I couldn't find the phone number on line. The restaurant was well lighted, clean and the temperature was comfortable. Our waiter was very helpful in guiding us through the large menu. The menu had lots of choices, both veggie and non-veggie. The food was very tasty although I don't really know how authentic it was. I just know it was good. There were many Indian customers, which I always take as a good sign at an ethic restaurant. The only drawback was the service; while friendly and helpful, was a bit out of order and not 'smooth". Drinks were either forgotten (in our case) or served to our friends halfway through the meal, old dishes not cleared away, etc. To be fair, though, we were not charged for the forgotten chai. Overall, the spotty service is what keeps Apna from getting four stars. It wasn't enough to keep us from going back, though. We want to try the lunch buffet in order to sample some more dishes. We love having more ethnic choices in Columbus..now if we could only get a authentic middle eastern place!!! read more
