I've hired many contractors over the years to work on our past homes but Apogee really stands out as one of the best teams out there. They just finished landscaping our 2.5-acre residential property starting from bare dirt and we couldn't be happier. They were referred to us by our landscape designer after her renderings were complete. Apogee graded the entire property, dug out swales, installed a irrigation system (laying out hundreds of feet of lines), put it a curved paved stone path, extended a large concrete patio, put in nearly 2 dozen trees, and blew in a wood chip path; amongst other work. Things our family appreciated the most: Even though the work took about 2 months to complete, every day the job site was left clean and orderly. Their attention to detail in every aspect of the project was far beyond what you would expect from people moving large volumes of dirt and rock around. Our designer drew out several curved walking paths and Apogee made sure both the stone and wood paths looked as straight and beautiful as the drawings. Large home renovation and building projects tend to be stressful since we work from home and the noise, dust, and general mess can be quite the disruption. But this is the first project where I often forgot there was even a crew working around us. Everyone was professional and communicative. When hiring a team for big home projects, I often find myself having to push and semi-project manage in order to keep things moving. This was a rare instance where I didn't have to do any of that and their milestones were hit (accounting for rain delays, obviously). Lastly, our neighbors can't stop commenting on how great the property looks; even as we wait for the grass and trees to grow out. I couldn't ask for more from Molly and Michael! We recently completed a full yard re-landscape (new path/patio, vegetable beds, lots of new planting, beautiful entry arbor) with Apogee. Molly was amazing to work with - so receptive of our input but also able to pull together an incredible and creative design from our vague ideas. Their team is highly skilled, efficient, professional, and so nice - we enjoyed having them around, as did our 2 year old! Michael checked in multiple times during the project, and ensured all of the details were perfect. We have received so many compliments from neighbors and passers-by, and we love walking around the space and enjoying it. It is fall planting season in Portland, but for Apogee Landscaping it's flood your client's yard season. I hired Apogee to create a peaceful landscape in my neglected backyard. The designer was a good listener; however the oversight of the company for the actual work was poor. The rain garden they installed was 1/3 of the size it was supposed to be in order to function correctly so my backyard was and is flooded each time it rained, eroding the newly installed gravel path and plants due to Apogee's faulty calculations. Michael, the Apogee owner wanted to charge me just to see the problem his crew created. When he finally came out, he shrugged off all accountability. His designer asked me to wait a year for the plants to root and said that would control the flooding. It didn't. A rain garden specialist from the Portland Water Division as well as SIX other landscape companies concurred that Apogee used the wrong piping and faulty calculations in their design resulting in damaging sitting water. By the time my complaint to the Landscape Contractor's Board was submitted and reviewed, Michael contested the dates and said too much time had passed. It had. This is after his designer asked me to wait a year before complaining. Unethical behavior, poor workmanship, and a nasty disposition is what you get when you hire Apogee. read more

Apogee Landscapes completely transformed my yard. I hired a landscape designer early in 2022 to help me come up with a plan, and then the landscaper she partnered went out of business (thanks COVID). I am happy I found Apogee instead. The design included removing all grass and lots of damaged concrete/flagstone, adding two rain gardens (one down a steep hill and another by the gutter in my back yard, creating a flagstone patio for a fire pit, and removing and replacing a crumbling back deck. I searched and searched and Apogee was the first landscaper who could do the entire project. They gave me a realistic timeline and a very detailed estimate and partnered with my landscape designer. Molly was a delight to work with and the owner Michael offered up some cost saving options for me to consider. I was amazed and very impressed with how much work the team accomplished each day. My neighbor was gracious and let the team use her driveway for easier access, and Apogee gave her a thank you gift (a lovely plant) at the end of the project. My only challenge throughout was knowing which days of the week the team would arrive - but in the end the entire project looks amazing, and they came in right on budget. No surprises. The Apogee team installed a major landscape remodel at our home: Stone wall, patio with pavers, crushed rock paths with massive stone stairs, water feature with basaltic column, irrigation system, soil conditioning, they planted approximately 400 plants and then mulched the beds They worked tirelessly, regardless of the weather and they met all time commitments. Apogee just completed a bamboo removal and cedar fence design/construction job in our residential yard in NE Portland. Awesome results. Michael is laid back and flexible but also very professional- he's a great listener and will tailor the job to suit your needs. Having had a less than great working relationship with a contractor who did some work on our house recently, we were worried that once the job started morphing a bit from its initial design, that the changes would automatically equate to an inflated bill at the end of the project. Michael was straightforward and clear about the changes from his initial estimate (all due to our evolving requests), and the final bill felt reasonable for the type of work and quality of craftsmanship Apogee puts into a project. We recently had our yard tidied up by Apogee Landscapes and they did a fab job. Our plant beds and gravel paths were full of weeds so we got a recommendation from our neighbors for yard care- because their yard always looks great. Michael came out and gave us a quote and sent his guys over a week later to do the cleanup. They hand-weeded all the beds - including the gravel - and added in some new mulch. I thought that the price was very reasonable for a chemical-free process, and everything looks great now. Thanks Apogee! I'll definitely keep you in mind for future yard projects. read more

Ha Ha neighbors!! We have the nicest front yard on our street, maybe even in the whole neighorhood. Thanks to Michael and Apogee. Our basement flooded last winter because our downspouts did not get the rainwater far enough from our house. And...we had a lovely green front yard, but it was all moss because the water just sits there. Oh! and the previous owners installed a rock path from the street to our front porch that was more of a path of death...any day our mailman would trip on this path and crack his skull. Hired these guys to help with these issues. These guys worked hard! Within a few days we had our downspouts buried and flowing into a nice little rain garden. They cleaned up our landscaping, scraped off all the moss, added nice soil and planted grass that is really pretty and holds up in the summer sun and winter rains so far. and our walkway! We picked some really nice pavers and now our mailman is safe from death at our house. I love it so much that I will occasionally kick off my shoes to walk up and down our front pathway...so even and smooth now. We get lots of compliments on our front yard from strangers now. We will tackle the backyard next summer! read more

Well I guess they must be doing well enough to be totally insultingly pompous to possible new clients. If your sentence starts with "I don't mean to come off as insulting or pompous", you are probably going to do just that sir. I have a pretty large landscaping job where we are completely redoing our front yard. I asked if we could get an estimate and his response was that he didn't want to bother if it was unlikely he would actually get the bid. Well, I wouldn't be calling if I wasn't looking for someone to do the job. Then he said he would do the estimate if we paid him $50 because he is a busy man and his time is worth money. I asked if that was standard to charge for estimates and he said in this case it was. Not sure what I said to make him think we were not serious paying customers. So I am supposed to pay you to come bid on a job without knowing if your design or prices are going to suck? No thanks. read more

We hired Apogee Landscapes to completely re-do our front yard. They did a great job - they were on time, worked hard and got the job done on budget and in less time than they estimated. The man who positioned the rocks (I forget his name) in the new rock garden was very particular about how each one was set. They finished just as the first snow event happened in December. Apogee landscapers where you don't get what you paid for. Your final bill will be unbelievably higher than the original estimate. Poor specimens. He is pompous and charges by the minute. Some of the specimens that he brought and planted in my " landscape" were of such poor quality I'm going to have to take them out. He removed grass in part of my yard that was not to be removed. He did not consult me and offered poor remedies to replace that part of my scape Never would I recommend this busisness. read more

When we purchased our house it sadly had little outside charm. The backyard was severely sloped in all directions, we had an old and small deck, and we had some severe drainage problems. We called Apogee Landscapes looking for a solution to the above problems. The owner came to our house and helped us design a deck and retaining wall solution that allowed us to use significantly more space in our backyard while fixing our drainage problems and increasing the overall size of our deck. The owner suggested we purchase Ipe wood harvested under the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) guidelines for the actual decking and railings. The wood not only looked amazing but we were glad is was sustainable. The deck and retaining walls were beautifully constructed. The finish work on the railings was amazing and barely a screw was visible. In the end we walked away with a beautiful backyard that we know will last for many years and at a great price. Overall we are incredibly pleased with the work done by Apogee Landscapes and we would recommend them to anyone. read more

Need a recommendation for a fence? You better have a degree in carpentry and landscaping in order to sign up with Apogee Landscaping. The work is beautiful. But dealing with Michael LaCasa, a nightmare. We had a disagreement over the finished product. I asked him to build a structure to wipe out a view of the neighbor's trashy yard. Upon completion, there was a huge gap and I was still seeing the rubbish. Michael stated he felt it looked great and he did 90% of what I asked. He said I asked for two "freestanding panels" not a "fence". Hence the need for additional degrees. I already have two Bachelor of Science degrees and a Masters degree - Sadly, all in Nursing. Instead of saying to me, I understand you are not happy, tell me, what can I do to make this right. He argued arrogantly with me for an hour. He made me, a 70 year old woman, cry. After I said I would go in halves, he fixed the gap. Cost? $152.00. He risked a bad review for $152.00. Question: How many dogs can get out of an Apogee fence that only goes around 90% of the circumference of a yard? read more

Apogee removed a very unsightly concrete driveway and installed Turfstone at our home in the NW hills. All the work was done in compliance with the Turfstone manufacturer's specs including precision cuts required by the driveway curves. I never thought I would say a driveway was beautiful, but this one is just that! The job was done on time and as per their estimate. We are very pleased with them and would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

Apogee just finished re-landscaping the back of my rental property. Michael met with me and took his time learning about my requirements, presented me with a reasonable design quote and had a good design back to me in a week. I elected to go forward with the landscaping, and the work went according to plan and the results were exactly as promised. Apogee showed up on the day and at the time they said they would and completed the job faster than expected. Overall an excellent experience. I hired Apogee to redesign and reconstruct my poorly laid out backyard space. Michael came up with a concept that was cost effective and far exceeded my expectations. In order to make the yard more functional, he suggested building a retaining wall and regrading it to make it more level. Then, on top of the retaining wall, he built a tongue-in-groove cedar fence that gives the yard complete privacy from an overbearing neighbor. They removed an old concrete patio and replaced it with pavers in an ashlar pattern. An area that was once dead grass under a huge maple tree became landscaped beds. To top it all off, his crew brought in a 928 lb boulder that anchors the yard and is fantastic to sit upon. They also added an irrigation system so I no longer have to hand water. The results are breathtaking and I couldn't be happier. read more
