We needed to replace a rotting railroad tie retaining wall, along with a shared fence and gate. Our neighbor also needed part of their front yard fence replaced. Artistic Landscapes was fantastic to work with. When Robert came out to provide the bid, he explained everything in detail, and we were kept informed throughout the process. They even started the job early. Jeve and his crew did a fantastic job removing the old wall and fencing, building the new block retaining wall, and setting new fence posts. The original retaining wall ran right up to the property line with the fence attached to it. We wanted the new fence to follow the property line, so the new wall was set slightly back from the property line with enough room that we can easily take care of any weeds that may grow between the fence and wall. Bonafacio and his crew built a beautiful new fence and gate. He also installed our gate so it would open wider than the old one. Both crews kept the work site extremely clean and they were very work-from-home friendly with the only noise heard was them working. Robert came after the job was done to do a final inspection of both the work and job site cleanup. He also gave us information on how to care for the new fence and retaining wall. We were more than pleased with the exquisite workmanship and the quality of the materials used and are certain Artistic Landscapes has added value to our home. It's already been said by other satisfied Yelpers, but Robert's vision for our yard exceeded our expectations by leaps and bounds. We discussed our design preferences with him such as colors, types of plants and trees we favored, and Robert took all that in to consideration when he transformed our yard into the best in the neighborhood. He created a natural dry creek bed and slate walkway (see before and after pictures) that look like they have always been there, surrounded by a variety of trees, shrubs, and flowers that are perfect for our climate. We also had a drip irrigation system installed and accent LED lighting that beautifully illuminates his landscape masterpiece every evening. Our yard is basically no maintenance or fuss. OK, a little weeding once in a while. We were so pleased with the front yard, we asked Robert to spruce up our backyard too. He and his team, headed by Sergio, installed a drip irrigation system, accent lights, new bark dust, and a few well placed plants. Robert suggested a change on the side of our house and designed a walkway that makes it easier -and safer- to access that side of our house. Everyday, Sergio and his crew cleaned up the work area before leaving for the day (even cleaning up anything that may have drifted onto our neighbor's property). They were always respectful and professional and arrived on time everyday and went above and beyond what was expected. And during the whole process, my beloved Little Free Library remained in place and open for business. Needless to say, we think our property looks stunning! Wow just wow!! Robert and his crews are amazing. Blew our expectations out of the park. They did 4 days back to back of fixing our old sprinkler system, adding a new timer so the water runs at the correct times, a major major clean up, new bark, new pea gravel, two new pathways, 6 new beautiful boulders, over 30 new gorgeous plants, leveling gravel so a gate would open, trimming back pesky vines, seeding and fertilizing our lawn, pressure washing and more!!! My wife and I recently built a new home near Newberg and we hired Robert and Sarah, the owners of Artistic Landscapes to handle the yard. Our backyard walkways were a mess before working with Robert and Bonifacio- some parts were concrete, some were ugly mislaid pavers, one area by the fence was rotting wood, and other spots were cracking and falling apart. Lots of trip hazards for the kids, and not pleasant to look at. Robert's team came in and tore all of that up and put in lovely pavers to make everything match. We had a huge project to transform our backyard (on 1/2 acre property) to a more level, low maintenance yard. That involved clearing weeds and old lawn, hauling away stumps and roots and old pavers, and leveling it to a more manageable grade. We had a bit everything done: retaining walls, pavers in the side yard, a meandering flagstone pathway, a new walkway to the front patio ( pavers), a raised seating area, new perennial beds, a small area for an edible garden, a new irrigation system....and a new rain drain that was not in the plan! Roberts crew is amazing. They were always on time, were pleasant to deal with, and worked really, really hard. This was a hard yard to deal with. We started using Robert and his crew a few years ago. They initially installed an exposed aggregate sidewalk for us on the North side of our house. I was also ways really wet, muddy, and rocky on that side of the house. I had several bids for this sidewalk. Their pricing was in the middle (compared to other bids) but Robert was prompt and very nice to work with. Some contractors didn't want the job at all due to our steep stairs to get up to the project site. No problem for Robert and his concrete guy. They went above and beyond by putting in some vent wells and added some mulch to the side of the house to make it nice and clean in that area. Due to the great job we have used Artistic for several other projects as well as yard maintenance. Other projects over the years have included a fire pit, rock pathway, updated rock in stair area, old deck removal, installing multiple french drains in our backyard, concrete patio, another sidewalk and some cedar posts for hammocks and a fort area. I haven't bothered getting other quotes for any landscape related projects because we like working with Robert and his guys and trust them. Thanks so much Robert! read more

There was a bit of a delay in the start of the project for two reasons: (1) there's been a lot of hail this spring, but (2) they were getting requests for additional work for their active projects - and after seeing the final product in the backyard I understand why. We had them install a fence and a fire pit, and gave them a deadline for a party with friends we'd scheduled a month out from the initial start date. After the late start, Sergio and his crew worked their tails off to get everything done 2 days before our party. We were so happy with the major yard renovation Artistic Landscapes did for us 3 years ago that we knew exactly who to call when we were ready for a 2nd project. The second time around, they did a fantastic job of beautifying our entryway to make it look inviting and welcoming. They cleaned out overgrown and unwanted plants and transformed the area into a much more visually pleasing and low maintenance setting. These improvements included adding river rocks to give our yard a more defined edge as well as new plants. One of their crew members also completely redid the drip system for the planter boxes and hanging baskets on our deck. Unlike many landscaping companies, Robert is creative, has a very keen eye for design, and can come up with a plan for what will visually and functionally improve your yard. He knows how to make any outdoor space look beautiful! In addition, he is personable and an excellent communicator. I originally had Robert come to my house in 2018 for a quote for adding a couple of pathways and other miscellaneous jobs. He was professional, punctual, and a genuinely a nice guy. The quote provided was very detailed and broke every expense down. I ultimately decided not to do any work in 2018. A couple of months ago, I decided I was interested in proceeding with the work proposed. Robert came back to get the job dialed in and provide an updated quote. The cost went up slightly, but that is to be expected with the passage of time. I let Robert know shortly after he provide the quote that I was interested in proceeding with the work. We scheduled the job for approximately 6 weeks out. About 4 weeks after, Robert asked if I was interested in starting the job early. I had a few reservations, but Robert came to my house again to make sure we were on the same page. Louise was the one who did most of the work. He did an outstanding job and worked quickly. Each day I came from work, I could tell that big progress was made. The worksite was cleaned up every day. Louise would ask me for direction if he wasn't positive on how to proceed which I appreciated. Ultimately, I am very pleased with the work done and the professionalism and attention to detail provided. They did an entire back yard cleanup, weeded, did light to mid pruning, removed one smaller tree, laid down a nice (thick) layer of bark. We had Robert's company do our landscaping and yard lights. We spent over $45,000 to do the work. While his crew is very nice, and their work was okay...Robert was slow in ordering certain plants and they became unavailable, which was disappointing. Our bigger problem,however, is that one of the yard "up lights" stopped working. Robert left me with no paperwork on the lights to know how to replace them. I have called Robert numerous times, emailed, left messages, but he never has contacted me. I would never use this company again, nor recommend them to anyone. read more

I reached out to Artistic Landscapes to see about talking to someone about getting my yard back to a manageable condition and for some ideas on ways to simplify. They responded quickly via message in the Angie's List message center. We set up a time for the owner Robert to come walk the yard. He came by on a Saturday right on time and couldn't have been a nicer guy. He seemed to really understand what we were looking to do and had some great ideas on how he and his team could help us get things cleaned up and help manage the yard on a regular basis moving forward. In addition, he had mentioned that he had recently done a couple of the yards in my neighborhood and it would be easy for him to maintain ours as he would already be in the neighborhood. He said he had some current jobs going on but could get started on the initial cleanup sometime in April. Even though that was over a month out I was good with it because of our conversation and direction he had proposed. He left telling me he would put a quote together for a couple of the projects we talked about which I was excited to receive and get started on. A few days later I get a message from Robert via the Angie's List message center. He lets me know that he had a couple of large projects come up and would not be able to get to my projects before fall and it would be pointless for him to quote me because the quote would expire before they even have a chance to get to me. And that was it. Needless to say I'm disappointed getting kicked to the curb. He comes out, paints this great picture of how he can help, floats out a potential start period, and commits to providing me a quote. Then all of a sudden he has some big jobs that "came up" (I guess either on Sunday or the Monday holiday) after our meeting and no offer to come back at any time. Obviously we aren't big enough $ for their time. That is fine as it's his company. However, some advice to him and others who play this game: be honest and up front about your intentions. Give the customer an idea of a scope or a $ amount you like to be at for it to be worth your time. He asked me about a budget which I didn't commit to as I am in sales and I know better than to give a figure especially when I don't really know the person or company yet. Maybe if I would have shared what we had to work with it would have been different. Maybe not. Either way I never think it's a good idea to give a budget and expect for them to not come in right at it or above. I'm sure 10-15K is a drop in bucket for this company hearing that pretty much overnight they are busy for the whole summer and beyond. I'm sure his team does okay work but is a total disappointment as it relates to being honest and professional. When contacting this company make sure to not get your hopes up and have some serious cash to spend. You better let them know exactly how much too. Otherwise you will most likely get treated like the little middle class family you are. Note: this company did not do any work on our property outside of walking it, proposing ideas and services his company could assist with and taking notes to be able to put together a quote (that never materialized).
