Poor quality. Damage to the landscape. I was quite happy when our HOA (Autumn Hill) switched landscape contractors and got Landscape East & West to service our community. However, with the honeymoon period over - I am observing steady decline in the quality of some services. While I am not a landscaping specialist, or a professional gardener, and can't comment on everything LE&W offers, some of the basic tasks like moving, edging, cleaning and paying attention to details - those are things you don't need a degree to tell the difference in quality of work. It also happened so that my lawn (as well as probably majority of homes in our community) requires just those services for most of the time. - Moving is done in the same manner (pattern, trimming height, etc) regardless of the outside conditions or the lawn condition - wet or dry, rain or shine, too hot or not. On top of that for the small patch of grass I have they use quite bulky and heavy equipment, which simply rips the grass when they attempt to turn it around, not mentioning all the furrows left after the same pattern being use over and over again. - Edging, a simple task, is done regardless whether it is required or not - say in places where plastic landscape edging is used. And the crew seems to not be able to notice plants in the way of their edger, and simply shred those plants. - Grass trimmings are sometimes left just on the lawn, but mostly are over path walks, flower beds and even on the cars next to the area being mowed. Since I have exhausted the only venue I had - HOA management - for addressing this issues, I hope this comes to LE&W owners' attentions. I bet this is not an isolated incident, as the same crew works on other properties, other HOA etc. read more

We've been customers for six or seven years, mostly for sprinkler maintenance: annual sprinkler startups and shutdowns and, when needed, repairs. Over the last three seasons, we have seen a steady deterioration in the quality of the service coupled with, at best, indifferent front office interactions. We have stuck with LEW in spite of the poor experiences because starting over with a new contractor is a drag; but we will do just that after this season. The latest round: the tech showed up three hours early (luckily I was home or I would have waited weeks for another appointment), which we scheduled as a startup and maintenance visit and informed me that all he would not check the system, let alone do any repairs; he was only qualified to turn it on. Getting an appointment to actually do the maintenance we originally scheduled took two more phone calls and another seven weeks. Today, two hours after the tech's scheduled arrival time for the tech came and without a word from LEW, I called the office to be told, "I can't find your tech" and "I will call you back." After waiting another three hours and making two more phone calls, I was told that the tech isn't coming and I need to wait another ten days (and take another day off) to get the work done. But the kicker: no acknowledgement of the hassle caused, let alone an apology, the implication that my lost day is somehow my fault, and a lot of attitude. I get it: everyone one is stressed and busy and it is a holiday week. But how hard was it to simply call a long term customer when you knew the appointment was botched, apologize, and offer to re-schedule as quickly as possible? Too hard, apparently. read more

East West Landscape was wonderful to work with, from our very first interview to the completion on the design our front yard. Brandon was very thorough in going over our vision and budget. There was some back and forth, compromise, more back and forth, etc. It's a process to get everyone on the same page, but we managed to get most everything we wanted. The front year turned out beautifully - even more so than we imagened. Brandon took care to pay attention to the structure of our mid-century house so that the new landscape enhanced the lines and angles of our home. I have to add the work crew was always on time, always cleaned up and were 100% professional. We did go a little over budget but in the end, we got a beautiful new landscape that will increase the value of our home. Yes-I would recommend East West Landscape. read more

We had water leaking into our basement because of poor drainage. Bryan came out right away and discussed the problem and made suggestions for how to fix it. We agreed on a plan and he wrote it up. I was pleased with the sales interaction because it didn't feel like "sales" but like an effort to find the best way to solve a problem. The super amazing part was the team that came out to do the actual work. Ryan and Jose were super nice and friendly, and always seemed to be genuinely smiling. At the end of the first day they hit a snag: there were multiple *massive* tree roots in our planned path. I was concerned, but they just suggested an alternate plan (which I actually liked even better) and didn't complain that it meant trenching further than expected. The planned work ended up being done just beautifully, and we can already see how well the new drainage is working. But what really blew me away was the "above and beyond" work that they did. I had some random rocks lying around, that I hadn't decided what to do with, and after asking permission, Ryan built them into my existing landscape! It looks so much better! The drainage exit, which I had thought would just be a pipe end, they built into a lovely little rocky exit that looks more like a garden fountain than a drainage pipe. They also hauled away a significant amount of green waste that I had cut down but which didn't fit well into my bin. They just tossed it all into their truck and said "no problem!" Finally, they used the remains of my mulch pile to cover every bit of dirt/mud around the pipeline (and beyond). I was expecting a drainage solution, and I got a good one. But I also got a mini yard makeover in the bargain! Ryan and Jose clearly love their work, and it shows. I would hire them again in a heartbeat! read more

I recently moved and discovered that my water feature was non functional. I called Landscape East & West as they had installed the feature some years ago. A wonderful group of folks with whom to work. Easy to schedule. Efficient and informative technician: he gave me maintenance tips on the water feature, as well as information about my in ground irrigation system, which was a mystery to me. Also, it was a pleasure to have him at my home. I recommend them without reservation. Call them if you need help with any landscaping problems. read more

I called Landscape East and West regarding repairing my Rain Bird sprinkler system (because their sticker was on my control unit). Unfortunately, they only work with established customers. Landscapes. We are fortunate in Oregon and Southern Washington to live in one of the most epic landscapes on earth. Seriously. And we are fortunate to live in a climate where we can put a spectrum of plants in the ground and they will thrive. Our climate is similar to the great garden climates of England, known for their world renown gardens! Landscape East & West is a solid landscape contractor I used for hardscapes. That's pavers, low wall blocks and block steps over leveled excavation, by hand, by them, with tons of gravel and sand underneath. I'm fit, but hauling tons is not my most fav workout! If you need two bushes planted, maybe Landscapes E&W is not your first choice. You can do it yourself easily! But if you need hardscapes: fences, decks, plantings, pavers - diamond sawn, or large fieldstones with those plants, I recommend these folks. I'm a design geek, so I provided a lot of research and design drawings they worked with easily. If you need their designs and advice, sure they could mesh with that. I worked with estimator and supervisor Bjorn. It was a challenging project. On a slope. Well executed, on schedule, on budget , and perfectly cleaned up on completion. They also had a brilliant deck crew that did a great job. The contractor world is populated with free spirits. That means they don't show up, don't honor their bids, disappear, take the money and run, take random breaks for "hunting season", and don't clean up. I've plenty of personal experience with each and every of those examples. Landscape East and West is none of that. They are solid, reasonably priced, and strongly recommended! read more

These folks rock. I got annual contract and tech showed up to turn on system and do back flow test. Had problem with Rachio app but he returned after researching my file and finding it wasn't the app but an additional valve and everything worked. After he left I found the front yard didn't shut off after 3 minutes per app. I called frantically and luckily he was able to return and massage the stuck valve. I was blown away by the logistics and speed of our install. We did a complete driveway renovation to include ripping out the old concrete/asphalt and stairs, widening the driveway and putting pavers and new stairs in. We started the design process back in May/June, but once we were on the schedule for early November, they were able to get two crews on it and knocked out the project in just over two weeks. I'm very happy with the quality and professionalism of everyone involved. We'll be using them again. read more

What to do during a Pandemic? Rip out your yard and start over. For this, we did a search of all the local landscapers and chose to go with Landscape East & West. Primarily because of their reputation and the Feng Shui feel we got from their portfolio of past projects. They responded immediately and the planning began. They listened to what we wanted and worked their magic. The entire process went very well. As the project progressed we requested a few changes which they accommodated at every stage. They were upfront about costs and revisions so we were never caught by surprise. The project managers and the ground crew were all friendly and skilled. Our new yard is gorgeous and we are anxiously looking forward to the next couple of years to watch it grow. read more

My partner and I live in NE Portland. She hired LE&W to do the landscape in her front yard, back yard as well as build a deck and pergola with stone seating area. This was a BIG job and very expensive. Many things were done wrong and it took forever for them to get corrected. They actually missed some very big issues with the stone seating area, and said that it was because it was raining the day they inspected the work...we live in Oregon, it rains all the time. I was the one who had to point out that the construction had been SLOPPY...they finally came up with a solution that my partner could live with. The plants however that are supposed to be on warranty are dying. My partner had the project manager out 3 weeks ago to look at the plants. The project manager looked at them and said she would get back to her when the owner is back from vacation. She still hasn't heard from her. Plants just continue to die. The owner sent a snarky email back when things needed to be completed and charged my partner for mistakes they had initially made on the project. His tone in his emails is that he is right and you are wrong. But he allows sloppy, lazy, untimely work. Do yourself a favor, skip this company, unless you want to be treated poorly...then call them up!!! Of course they may never get back to you...so don't hold your breath. read more

The quality of LE&W has dropped dramatically in the last year. I was with them since 2012 and always had zero problems. Last year, they hired a new manager and things went bad quickly. They literally destroyed my lawn. I spent money to replace dying arbor vitae and then the new plants they installed died. They said even though it was under warranty they would only replace the plants with more expensive plants that would cost me another $300-400. After years of faithful service I cancelled and I don't recommend anyone purchase their services that are overpriced with poor customer service. read more

This company provided one of the best experiences i've had with a contractor in this area. i called, and we set up an on-site consultation for about a week later. One of the sales reps came out, walked around my yard with me, and listened carefully to what i said i wanted repaired, replaced, or added. When i expressed concern that a retaining wall might be failing, he explained to me why it was, in fact, in perfectly good shape and didn't need any work at all. Barring a slight delay due to a typoed email address, i had a preliminary bid in short order. Once i approved that, they drew up a detailed bid and added me to their work calendar. They started work the day they told me they would, and got the work done on time, on budget, and to my satisfaction. Due to the dubious standards of the previous owners of our house, the workers ran into a few problems during the project. I'd forewarned them that there would be unpleasant surprises, so only two of them required additional work and expense. In both cases, they drew up a plan, explained to me what needed to be done differently, and made sure i was comfortable with the additional cost before proceeding. Several times during the project, the project manager came out to the house to give me an update, walk me through the work so far, and make sure i didn't have any questions or concerns. The workers were also fast, diligent, careful, and far more rain-tolerant than i am. They were in my driveway by 8am every day, worked no matter how awful the weather was (though they would duck under cover when it hailed), and had the place cleaned up and were gone by 4pm. They drove a truck with the company name on it and wore jackets with the company name and logo, so i never had to wonder if the guy wandering around my backyard was someone i'd hired to fix the botched drainwork or a trespasser. When my troublesome neighbor complained to them about the noise from the stone saw, they handled him graciously and addressed his concerns as best they could without letting the project get off track. I highly recommend this company, and plan to use them for any future hardscape, drainage, or irrigation work on my property. -- Update, summer 2013: I had a sudden, urgent need for a fence, and once again these guys were on time and on budget, leaving me with a lovely fence to block an unfortunate line of sight. I continue to think highly of them and recommend them to anyone in need of outdoor work. read more

I had an unfortunate experience with these people on the phone and that's where our relationship ended. I called to set-up the advertised "free consultation," hoping to meet someone in person, get some ideas on a hardscape patio plan for our side yard, and get a ballpark price for what we discuss. The lady who I spoke with was pleasant enough but was very insistent on getting as much detail over the phone as possible i.e. the measurements of the patio, the kind of stone/pavers we'd like to use, whether or not we wanted features, etc. Honestly, I had no idea how big the area was nor did I know what kind of materials we'd like to use. I thought that's what the consultation was for! My husband and I just thought it'd be nice to have a patio and was hoping to chat about some ideas with a professional, but that didn't seem like it was going to be the case with this company. Instead, she cornered me into making some decisions over the phone and quoted me a price from my "guesses." When I inquired about the consultation and that perhaps these questions would be better answered in person and on-site where I could show them the space and perhaps they can bring some material samples and maybe talk me through prices of each and pros/cons, she said that they would only do that if I felt the price she had just quoted me was something that was worth considering. Without her saying directly, it was my understanding that if I didn't feel like it was within our budget, we should just look elsewhere. They may be a big company and the project we had in mind was small, but I didn't appreciate feeling like that was obvious and that I was just wasting their time. Happy to say I found someone else that was more considerate and actually helped us see the big picture of our property. They not only won our confidence in doing the patio, they also drummed up more business by giving us ideas for the rest of our space. I hired them do do some work in my front yard. The person I worked with was professional and seemed to understand what I wanted. She let me know that, unless you have an irrigation system, they don't guarantee their plants. Several months after installation, three of the14 or so boxwoods died. There were also a few other plants I wanted taken out because I didn't like how they were maturing. I happily paid for the labor and three new boxwoods. Within a couple months the new boxwoods started petering out and ultimately died. I called Landscape East and West and left a detailed message for the designer I worked with, and included that I hoped they could replace these three (hopefully at a discount if not for free). She left me a message in return; she was *polite* but had a lot of questions about how well I had been watering saying that "the plants shouldn't do that." She made it clear that she thought it was user-error. I could not get ahold of her so left her another message indicating that I had been watering them the way she told me to and that I was just as surprised as she was that they were dying. She never called me back. No one did. No apology or offer to come out and take a look. No offer to replace them even at full cost, not to mention gratis or at a discount. I replaced them myself. We hired LEW for a fairly large outdoor living construction and landscape project (90K+) and while there were bumps in the road, to be expected, their customer service in times of good and bad was tremendous. Mac (lead carpenter), Lee (sales), Bjorn (landscape architect), and Jamie (Project Manager) were great to work with and we absolutely consider them friends. If you have any work that requires a carpenter, demand Mac. He is one of a kind and absolutely one of the nicest people we have ever worked with. He quickly became 'buds' with my 2 year old son. Mac even went totally out of his way and bought him a yellow construction hat. How sweet is that? Great people, solid work, honest. We would hire them again. read more

My experience with Landscape East and West was not good overall. There were two main issues. The first is lack of responsiveness and communication throughout the entire process. Second, while doing the work, they damaged a buried electrical cord that carries power from the house to a fountain in the backyard. I pointed this out, but after several weeks of chasing them it still wasn't addressed. I ended up just fixing it myself. On the positive side the work they actually did do seems to be OK though they didn't complete everything we originally talked about. I would not recommend using them. read more

Juan came to shut down the irrigation for the winter, and also looked at our landscape lights. He was very helpful, is clearly knowledgeable, and professional. I feel great knowing he will be back in the spring. Also, Susan was helpful in setting up the lighting review on a day when I could be around (and same day as irrigation). We have used Landscape East & West for a major landscape job in the past, and for irrigation, and have always been happy. When we moved last year, we checked with the prior owner's landscape company; they weren't able to match Landscape East & West. read more

We have had Landscape East and West do several projects for us over the last few years and the work is always top notch. Recently we decided to have an irrigation system installed and Lee stopped by to do a walkaround with me. We discussed types of watering systems, requirements as to lawn and garden restoration and taking out the parkway grass in replacing it with pavers that match a walkway the company put in a few years ago. Lee listens to what I am describing, he adds his expertise to help me figure out the details. In a few weeks his guys came over to begin. The work went smoothly, the job manager Spencer, was great to work with as were the rest of the crew. The system was installed, pavers put down, the yard thatched and top dressed, the flower beds mulched and the result is just beautiful. Also, each evening when the crew left, everything was put away, cleaned off, and put in good order. A wonderful job. read more

Lanscape East put in a back patio for our home, and we love it! They transformed a funky backyard, into a beautiful hardscape that gets us tons of compliments. Lee came out, looked at our space, and put together an elegant plan that matched our home's look and feel. During the course of the one-week build out, an alley behind our house that we share with our neighbor got pretty chewed up from Landscape East's large work trucks. At the end of the job, they re-graveled the entire alley without charging us. We never even asked them too. He identified several problem areas and fixed them promptly and efficiently. His troubleshooting skills are top notch. David performed the back-flow test and checked the main water line for leakage. All Good. He took the time to answer all our questions and help us get the maximum benefit of our existing irrigation system while saving us money and time. Couldn't be more pleased with Steve Stewart and his team. Needed to have a retaining wall replaced and a tree removed. Provided a reasonable bid, squeezed my project in between other jobs and finished project when promised. Crew was very respectful of existing grass and landscaping especially considering ground is saturated. Steve followed up with an in person visit and encouraged me to be honest about my thoughts. Landscape East & West did a beautiful job designing and landscaping our backyard. We started with a small, nearly empty yard space behind our 100-year-old Craftsman home. We wanted to create an intimate space that would require minimal care, yet look lush and lovely year-round. Brandon, a very knowledgeable landscape designer, listened carefully to our goals and budget limitations and then designed a beautiful space with using pavers, gravel walkways and a small grassy area surrounded by local plants and ground cover. The project included a 5-zone irrigation, drip system. The project took two men about 7 days to complete and the result is beautiful. Joel, the project foreman, was excellent and listened to our concerns and promptly addressed them. We love the finished product and would highly recommend Landscape East & West to others. read more

I had a wonderful experience with this company. After being burned working with some other contractors, I chose Landscape E&W based on the initial rapport I had with the landscape designer Christin Bryk. I am quite particular about the things I like, and know nothing about landscaping... so I was nervous putting this project into someone else's hands and relying on them to come up with a design and plan. Knowing what I know now, I had nothing to worry about... Christin always showed up right on time... responded clearly and efficiently to any questions or concerns that arose... and oversaw the project from start to finish without a hitch. The landscapers also showed up on time, were very professional, and kept the workspace clean and organized (which I imagine is difficult to do when working with dirt and mud all day long!). We had a large project including landscaping the front and back yard spaces... new lighting, boulder placement, garden bed and privacy screen fabrication, changing out the sprinkler system, and constructing a new path/stairway. Nobody had lived in our house for over two years... so everything had overgrown or died by the time we moved in. Although we love our new home... the sad state of the plant life made it look unloved. Now, every evening that I pull into our driveway... I smile seeing our little lighted pathway, which feels so cozy... and when I walk in the backyard... it looks like a home again. This company does require you to put a down payment to the designer before they will give you an an exact estimate for the project... but it takes the designers hours of work to measure and design the space... so I believe the fee to be quite reasonable and understandable. Christin was very aware of our budget and completely worked around what we had discussed and agreed upon... she even gave us options to up or downgrade options to modify the costs. We built a new house and were in need to change our dirt and weed covered, sloped backyard to something nice. I happened to contact to this company and Cindy stopped by to give us a quote. I was impressed by how well they were organized and decided to go with them -- and it turned out to be extremely successful. Cindy designed great looking backyard plan. Heberth and his crew changed our sloped backyard to even, installed pavers, irrigation setup and a nice french drain. And Jamie and Cindy did great job planting and setting up automated irrigation timer with rain/wind/temperature sensor. All the crews were extremely nice and polite. As per prior reviews don't bother with these people. Sales rep came out and had zero enthusiasm. I have a large project with retaining walls, fences, and much more. $30k+. Sales rep didn't even bother to measure anything saying it was easy enough to get it off of Google. After no word back I emailed him and here is his reply; Mike, Thanks for checking in. Based on what your looking for and that we dont do cement work and that our calander is out till September I don't think your project is a good fit for us Really? Why bother to come out to begin with making me think I had 3 estimates lined up before my start date just to find out they are not even going to bother to bid it much less let me know they weren't interested. Obviously the sales rep is not commission or he's not very bright. The "cement work" was a step outside my back door that someone else could have done. I guess they just don't want to work.....makes no sense to me. Very unprofessional. Look elsewhere. read more

My wife and I contracted Landscape East and West to landscape our backyard, which was pretty much untouched since our house was built. They moved our fence back six feet, leveled the ground, added soil, added grass to the yard, and installed a planter box with gardening soil. And all within 2 days! The best part is, we happened to be out of town while they were at work and they didn't need to call or email us while we were gone. They finished the work without any issues and made our backyard look exactly how we wanted it to look. They even gave us a wedding present (since they knew we were away on our honeymoon).
