I'm giving EF Go Ahead Tours 5 stars because they delivered on every promise during my recent…read moreHighlights of Scotland and England trip. They arranged the flights...and, although I would have preferred less connection time on the return trip (it was 5 hours in Philadelphia), all flights were on a major airline (American) and on time...from my home airport of Manchester, NH to my destination of Edinburgh...and then from London back to Manchester NH when I returned home. The hotels were mostly Holiday Inn Express (which were satisfactory and clean, with adequate breakfasts) throughout Scotland and England, until we got to London, when we stayed at a lovely, more upscale hotel (the Danubius Regent's Park where the breakfasts were exceptional). On most days, there were excursions/guided tours of one sort or another...as well as opportunities to prebook additional tours/excursions, which I did. The drive along Coastal Scotland was wonderful, as was the tour at Windsor Castle and the high tea at Jane Austen's house in Bath. In addition to all breakfasts, several dinners were included in the tour price. I'd taken a Road Scholar trip to Costa Rica last year where ALL meals were included each day...and I felt that having to be with the group for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day was a bit much and a bit restricting...which is why I opted for the EF Tour which allowed for more free time...and personal choices. The bus travel from city to city was extremely comfortable...and both our fearless leader, Kurt Hoffmann...and the various bus drivers, including the wonderfully patient Allen, always made sure to schedule rest stops along the way. And speaking of Kurt...his constant attention to detail, upbeat personality, and knowledgeable grasp of the areas we traveled through...all helped contribute to the high level of satisfaction and enjoyment each day. I believe he made each person on the tour feel their needs and wants were important to him...and he was always ready to listen and make things happen to ensure smiles on the faces of everyone in the group. I'm so glad I took this trip with EF Go Ahead Tours!

The marketing calls and email are relentless, but after I booked and needed help with an existing…read moretrip it was crickets. They wouldn't answer questions via email and told me I had to book a scheduled call. Their calendar was full for over a week. Even at the scheduled call time I was left waiting because they didn't call me on time. The person I finally spoke to gave me incorrect information that then had to be corrected in a follow-up call. He was also late in calling for that scheduled call too and got rude when I pointed out how difficult it is to talk to anyone there. I was initially considering transferring my current deposit to another trip but after the customer service experience I decided to just cancel all together. I'm now out $749 but I guess that is better than spending thousands on a subpar trip with unhelpful people.

I had a very disappointing experience with EF Educational Tours customer service…read more I contacted the company two months before the deadline they imposed to request flexibility regarding my situation. Reaching out well in advance, I expected at least a conversation or some level of understanding. Instead, the response I received was rigid and dismissive. There was no empathy, no attempt to offer alternatives, and no outreach to help resolve the issue. I was simply told that I could reach out again after the tour if I still needed assistance -- which defeats the entire purpose of contacting them proactively. For a company that works with families and students on expensive international travel experiences, I expected a much higher level of customer care. If flexibility and responsive customer service are important to you, you may want to think carefully before booking with EF. Based on my experience, their policies appear to take priority over people, even when customers reach out well in advance to try to resolve an issue.

That is unacceptable - would you add that to your places on the itinerary for a trip to South America??? EF EDUCATIONAL Tours takes you to the mall! For 2hrs!!! Wow. Big education. - Not give us time to grab lunch at the "beach" where we could try the famous ceviche of lima, just to hurry to the mall for 2hrs of nothing, well to eat Japanese is wildly absurb - Dinners; 1 dinner was to par the rest was low income eating for $5k ??? Not worth it. - Hotels; inconsistent wifi, no heat, electricity went out the last day while trying to get ready for our flight - Seats not together on trains, planes or even w/ our personal group - Sitting us in the airport for 2hrs after a 10hr flight, waiting for another group to arrive but took the first group to the hotel right when they landed - Forcing us to the airport early to sit us there for 6hrs bc the other group is leaving much earlier, then expecting us to land after a 6hr airport wait to a 10hr flight & now stay waiting in that airport for our next flight for another 6hrs, THIS IS SOME SORT OF SCAM. Oh here is 30 soles. Wow. - Paid for a 9 day trip & received basically a 6.5 day trip, we were just thrown on someone else's trip to give extra money to their agent. That is criminal. - Only the largest group of travel being considered for all requests/ decisions - Maybe if you are only going to consider one group dont take the money of others just for yr own profit

After hearing how it works, you would not be blamed for feeling like a modern day Robin Hood if you decided to go for it. Boris, the instructor, has a depth of knowledge that far exceeded my expectations and the audience he brings together is the kind of audience I think I'd like to travel with, too (aka great socializing/networking). The only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is because the opportunity Travel Masters presents hinges on being able/willing to take advantage of a system (credit cards and banking services) that not everyone can, wants or should take advantage of, myself included. This is a $100 class (cheaper via a daily deal), and that would have been good to know upfront before I decided to pay for the class. If there were another approach presented (legal loopholes in travel offers, points/miles arbitrage on eBay, etc), then it would have been more accessible to more people. That said, if you're able to pull this off, the information you'll get will change your life. Oh, and, an after work class during a weekday would have been soooo much more convenient than the very middle of a perfectly good Saturday, where I could have been out, um, traveling instead of sitting in a stuffy classroom all afternoon. Just saying.

It is an eye-opening experience. Personally some of the techniques I find to be completely legitimate but brushing the thin boundaries of ethical grounds. I will be implementing nearly all the techniques within my personal integrity standards (which might not be universal for all the audience). It is extremely brilliant and smart in hacking and leveraging existing loopholes of the system. And being educated about existing system is always great. But I really hope that us arbitrageurs/Smart travelers will not be incurring too great a social cost for the existing system. And every flight we take do incur carbon footprint, so all of you who seek to gain this incredible power of knowledge, use it wisely...
