I asked the front desk if this would be a covered procedure through my insurance and they advised it would not be, so I paid CASH ($1826.00). They did say that they could try to file it with my insurance and if anything was covered, I would receive a refund check, most likely from the practice. I agreed and had the treatment completed by Dr. Ryan Brennan, which was 5 stars and I am very happy with. Three weeks post procedure, I receive a bill from Advanced Endodontics (AE) for $21, which is listed as Intraoral Periapical First Film (i.e.: x-ray), which I already paid my CASH price of $149.00 -for an Oral Eval which included an x-ray, (which is what the front desk told me was going to occur). When I called to inquire with Leslie in Billing at AE, she first informs me with no hesitation that she sees the charge and has no idea what the $21.00 is for and doesn't understand why I was charged. She placed me on hold to check with the front desk. When she returned to the phone, she advised me that because they (AE) filed with my insurance to see if anything was covered, I had to pay $21. She said if they had not submitted it to my insurance then I would not have had to pay because I was a CASH payer. Nobody up to today ever told me there was a fee to submit the bill to my insurance and why AE would show it as an x-ray charge only shows that they are attempting to cover or hide the fees for the erroneous $21 charge. On my original procedure / payment receipt there is no indication of a pending charge, outstanding balance or stipulation for a charge to file with my insurance. She (Leslie) informed me if I didn't pay the $21 it would be sent to collections. This is very wrong in so many ways. She said information, or lack of, about a charge is not the responsibility of the front desk job, so regardless, I must pay. She said it is a legal contractual agreement with my insurance that I must pay. The most concerning point is AE attempting to cover the cost of the insurance submission as an x-ray charge, which is bordering on billing fraud. I guess to top it off was her dismissive attitude during the conversation on the phone. This $21 charge is not going to change my life, but now it's all about principle: Advanced Endodontics billing procedures, what is being told at the front desk, the treatment on the phone by Leslie and the way it was billed as an x-ray. This seems to be a way to charge customers for manipulated charges and billing irregularities.

Once I was back and in the chair, Dr Adam Bergman, who might I add is on Orlando's 2015 Best Dentist List, explained clearly the procedure and his assistance was very attentive. When Dr. Suzanne came in to do the final check on my teeth we had some light conversation which helps make the experience way more personable. She was great with my son for his check up and he had a great time here. We originally came to the Longwood location but since they didn't have laughing gas at that spot and he couldn't schedule me in same day we ended up going to their Maitland location next day. I was told by the assistant to wait in the waiting room during the procedure. Being my first time I asked why she replied it was policy. I then kindly asked why is it policy, with all the horror stories we hear i had to ask. The doctor came in after hearing that and explained the why. I will say it felt like a bit to back and forth at first vs him addressing my concerns and some things said were a bit off putting. I won't go in detail because at the end I see we're all just humans who can err in thought.... In the end everything turned out ok which was what mattered most and he allowed me to stay in the room afterall. Also funny at the end he was so suprised and mentioned it was his first kid who has not complained or moved during the procedure due to the pain.
