My husband and I visited Appalachian Natural Soaps when we were in Asheville last month. The employee who helped us, Drew, was very patient and helpful. He talked to us about our skin concerns and offered a lot of advice on their products. You could tell that Drew loves working here and helping others. The soaps and candles here are handcrafted in this shop and make great souvenirs to take home to friends and family or for yourself. My husband bought and is currently using their soaps for shaving, and I have a candle in my home office. The items aren't cheap, but they are a good value for a local, handmade product. Drew also gave us some coupons to use on the website in case we want to order more products in the future. We love coming to local shops like this when we travel, so we'll be back the next time we're in Asheville. read more

Wow... we just happened to wander into this shop today and the scents in the air were so fresh and heavenly we had to see what they offered. We lucked out to meet the owner Victor and he sampled a few of their homemade scrubs and lotions on our hands and the emollient naturals and delicious scents from the essential oils they use were fantastic. A half hour later we left with a small bounty of items! I'm excited to use the Whipped Sunshine Lotion and also the Cinnamon Oatmeal soap bar for my eczema! Let me just start this by saying, I have never once stepped foot in Victor's shop, but I would love to one day. I was made aware of his shop because a company I worked for had me call his shop and I've basically been in contact with Victor since January. I looked at his yelp, google, and Facebook and even his website and upon reading other reviews, I knew I had to try it. I only ordered the lemon cella but he sent me the other soap much to my surprise and this lovely hand written note. I could smell it through the packaging even despite it being so well wrapped by USPS. I am so excited to try these soaps, I hope to be a long time customer. What Appalachian Natural Soaps offers would cost you three to four times more in any major city. It's a family owned business that hand crafts every bar of their soap on site using exclusively organic and natural ingredients. The most charming thing about this place is how humble they are about it. They could be thrusting it down your throat, but it's all very relaxed. They're happy to share their story though, the soap itself is a family recipe, it's all quite interesting. My favorite of the 20+ products they offer is the lemongrass rosemary poppyseed soap. I want to celebrate Victor and Appalachian Natural Soaps for amazing customer service. I purchased a gift at their shop in December and the recipient loved their products, which, local + all natural = great products. So I decided to purchase the same person a gift certificate for their birthday. I did have a small issue when the gift certificate, which was purchased online through the website (did I mention convenient, too?), didn't get sent to my email when it was supposed to. Victor to the rescue! He followed up, did his research, and worked overtime to get the certificate resent to my email quickly, all in the same day! He even offered me a bonus bar of soap for the inconvenience, a big wow. Don't know what the issue was (technology, gotta love it!), but I will go back and shop with them in the future. I have been using Appy Nats soaps for years! Ever since they had their location in the Biltmore Square Mall and it is the only thing use. First of all I can't talk enough about how amazing their products are. I use their soap to wash my face and body every day. (And they have the most creative and lovely scents). I use their jojoba oil for my face moisturizer. Sunshine for my body moisturizer. They have the greatest Chapstick! Great Bath Milk. Coffee Butter. Candles. I mean seriously I could go on and on, there has never been a time I purchased something I didn't enjoy. Secondly, the staff are so amazing! They made everything right in their cute little shop on Wall St and are so knowledgeable of their products. They are so kind and passionate about what they do. At first, I wasn't sure about spending $6 for a soap, because I normally buy soaps from a drugstore for less than $2.(Very bad stuff :( I'm just so happy that I took a chance and tried their soaps! My skin was very dry and flaky before, but I'm not experiencing that anymore!!!! Quality hand crafted soaps, lotions, lip balm, bath salts, dog wash & men's shaving cream / accoutrements. The soaps are long lasting with a good foam. The gardeners soap is for heavy grime, and really exfoliates, so use wisely. The shea butter balm is intense, but magic. The soaps are of the highest quality, however we did not like the bath salts as much. I can not wait to get more goodies from this apothecary style shop, on our next trip. My fiancé's family and I walked into the store and we were instantly greeted by Victor. His hospitality, enthusiasm, knowledge and care was apparent. My fiancé heard about his soaps from a friend who brought some soaps back for her. Now we came to Asheville from Houston just to get these soaps! We walked out with over 14 soaps, some salt scrubs, a few tubs of sunshine and lavender bags. We couldn't get enough of the stuff! We LOVE the sunshine cream. This stuff is undeniably the best moisturizer for your skin. It makes your skin feel healthy without feeling gunky. My fiancé has this "chicken skin" on the back of her arms. She has tried so many things to get rid of them and finally Victor suggested the "Gardner's and Mechanic's" scrub and my father in law has this bad dandruff and her suggested the LemonCello! If I could give this place 10 stars or a hundred, I would! I love their soaps with a passion. I discovered them years ago and before I moved here I would get some to hold me over til I visited again... or I would order their products online. Ladies.. and gents.. let me tell you. I experienced some kind of awful rash after my pregnancy and I started using the lavender soap religiously. It cleared up my skin so well. The last time we visited the store we bought oatmeal soap for our baby and ONLY use that soap on him. It is WAY more gentle than Aveeno or Johnson & Johnson will EVER be. No chemicals.. just pure natural ingredients. I also use their coconut oil for everything. It's wonderful too and worth every penny. The little tub lasts a long time.. I've had it almost a year now and it's just a little less than half empty and I use a little every week almost. The employees here are very friendly and incredibly helpful. The soaps from this place are so good they motivate personal hygiene. I swear, I'm looking for new reasons to shower just to get some alone time with that Sandalwood block'o'heaven! I can't speak to anything past their homemade bar soaps, but I've now tried the Cedar wood and charcoal as well as the sandalwood and have been thoroughly impressed with both. My previous experiences with small shop/local soaps has been less than sudsy, with most losing their scent or latherability after just a few short washes, but these bad boys are good until the last bubble! I'd highly recommend stopping by the shop and indulging your senses. Next time I'm definitely buying one of their soy candles so my house can smell as good as my skin does! read more

Checked out this place last night & easily spent $70. Hear me out though, the stuff we got was GREAT! I actually used my bath bomb as soon as I got home. It lasted the whole 2 hours I was pruning in the tub. It also left my skin feeling soft the next day too! The soaps we got were amazing as well. Just the smell alone is powerful. I have bought these soaps for years. Usually I visit the store, however this time I ordered online. I love the soaps and take advantage of their special offer to buy 10 get 3 free. I received my order today and it did not include the 3 free. I called the number listed and was told by a man that answered the phone if I had not clicked the special button to get the 3 free, orders were filled as stated. That was all he said. I stated in view of this I simply would not be buying from them again. He then stated " I was going to make it right but now I don't give a SHIT!! OK, so why did he not try and say or make it right to begin with? I really believe in supporting local business, but there is no excuse for rudeness and vile language via the phone .
