This is probably the best nail salon I have ever been to, BUT it has some serious quirks to keep in mind. This place is kind of like 2 nail salons in one place; one phenomenal salon, and one really crappy one, so it's important to know who the good techs are (Chavel, Kelsey, and Thang). When my mom and I first went in, Chavel, one of the owners, immediately greeted us and made us feel at home in the front of the salon. We were then sent to tables at the back, where we waited for about 15 minutes after our appointment was scheduled for our technicians to sit down with us. Chavel had checked to be sure that my mom could get a gel manicure even though she had scheduled herself for a regular manicure, so this was extremely kind of Chavel. The techs in the back were not on the same page. My mom was told she could not have a gel manicure, but we understood because she wasn't scheduled for one. Meanwhile, my tech got to work and shaped my nails beautifully. But when it came time for the polish, disaster struck. First, she did not apply enough of the base color, and I had to ask her to do another layer because I could still see my nail through it, and she did so, but seemed annoyed. She then started painting the flowers on my nails, and the first one looked great, but then she skipped the ring finger. I asked her to please put a flower on that one too, and that's when she got really upset. She whined that she couldn't do it, that it would cost more, and that she didn't have enough time. It's important to know that throughout the whole appointment, she had an AirPod in because she was watching YouTube videos on her phone! In order to hide this from the other employees walking by, she had the video minimized in the corner of her screen on top of her work calendar, so it looked at first glance like she was just looking at that. Because of this, I could see the appointment block she had marked for me and knew we had plenty of time left. Besides, she also started late, so it would have been her fault if she finished late (which she didn't; she finished about 20 minutes early). I have had my nails done many times at many different salons, and do nail art myself, so I knew it wouldn't take very long, but she insisted she couldn't do it. So she did the flowers she wanted to and they looked great (see the pinky, middle, and pointer fingers in the before picture) even though she had to redo a couple of them because she was distracted by the YouTube videos and would mess up. I then asked if she could please do one on each thumb, even though I was really scared of her at that point. She glared at me and quickly scribbled one on each thumb, which you can see in the before photo, was very poorly done in comparison to the others. She quickly finished the manicure and came up behind me, and started massaging my shoulders and neck without consent or warning. I know a lot of people enjoy this (my mom was disappointed that her tech hadn't offered her a massage), but this was very uncomfortable for me, and I was too scared of her to ask her to stop. I got up to wait with my mom while her nails dried and whispered the whole story to her since she had been moved a few tables down in the middle of the appointment and didn't know what had happened. And this is when the story turns around! Chavel somehow overheard us (she must have fantastic hearing haha) and insisted that my mom get her nails redone for free in gel. She got her in with Kelsey, one of the best techs I've ever met, in just 10 minutes. My mom requested that she fix my nails instead of hers, and Kelsey went above and beyond. She redid the flowers on my thumbs (2 flowers instead of 1!), and put 2 on the ring fingers. That was all I had asked for, but she saw that even though the original flowers looked good, the first tech hadn't cured them properly, so the yellow bled (very visible on the pointer finger in the before photo), so she touched up EVERY FLOWER! This whole time, I was in the front of the salon and Kelsey, Chavel, and Chavel's clients, and I had a lovely time chatting. It was truly the best atmosphere I'd ever experienced in a salon! You can see the beautiful results in the after photo! It was a really wild experience, but Chavel took better care of us than I have ever experienced at a nail salon. Because of her kindness, I will definitely be back, but only if I can get an appointment with Chavel, Kelsey, or Chavel's husband, Thang. read more

I waited only about five minutes before a technician called me over to a chair. The basic pedicure was fine and the technician seemed nice, though she didn't say one word or make eye contact the entire time. I wouldn't call it a friendly atmosphere but it was fast and clean and ultimately I suppose that's enough.. it seemed to be very clean. My only complaint is that the technician, nothing my indecision about color, said we would try it first and see if I like it. That didn't happen. I was looking at my phone and before I knew it she'd polished half my toenails.. She also said she would tell me when the nails were dry but never did. At some point I just left. American Nails is okay and I'd go again if it was the only place available that day but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Had a mani and pedi done at American Nails AVL. My nail technician seemed perfectly nice. Pedi was good. One of my hands has a contracture due to a medical condition, so it stays in a very tight fist. Since it's been like this for 6 years, I know what is needed from the nail salon to help get my hand open so that the manicure can be done successfully. I've used 4 different nail salons outside of Asheville and received beautiful manis. When the technician at American Nails started, I explained how my nails should be done, so that the polish wasn't immediately ruined. She didn't follow my instructions. That should've been my clue that this was going to go south! Well after she was "finished" putting my polish on, she moved on to another customer. After sitting for about an hour waiting for my mani and pedi to dry and being completely ignored, I asked her if she could check my polish to see if it was dry. That was when she reprimanded me by saying I ruined my polish! I've been to other nail salons where it took 2 technicians to do my mani. If that's what's needed, get some help! If you need any special attention or help, avoid American Nails AVL. The technician who did my nails was quite rude. After spending over $80 for a mani and pedi, I was pretty disgusted with them. He spent so much time and attention to the details like the shape and where the gems were placed, everyone was so talkative and nice, and I've never been so happy! normally my nails are either different sizes, oddly shaped, or just messy no matter where I go. This is the first 100% positive experience I've had. I'm also a total clean freak and so scared of nasty salons, which most of them are gross, but they have all their clients wash their hands before and after really well and clean everything between each client which made my OCD heart explode! However, they do require all customers to wash their hands before picking out their polishes. The lady who did my pedicure was running a little behind schedule but it wasn't anything too major. Literally raced home to write this review because I had such a good experience here. The girl who did my nails (Chancy? Clancy? Girl please forgive me I am terrible at names) did such a good job on my dip manicure and I couldn't love the outcome more. The vibe in the salon is just so warm and friendly - the employees obviously all really like each other and create this warm and welcoming community, just chatting with each other and customers. It's sort of like if you went to a friend's house to get your nails done, but your friend was a professional manicurist. Because I don't wanna forget, the dip color I got was called Tropical Sunset and it's perfect for spring. As soon as I got home, a rainbow came out. If you end up with some of the less experienced people then... you get what you pay for. Chancey- fantastic. Super friendly but more importantly she was flawless with her work. Put a lot of effort into shaping/cleaning my nails before applying polish and that manicure (just a regular manicure, not gel) lasted for 2 weeks solid. Less experienced employee- uncomfortable experience. Reasonable result. I would have easily given this place 5 stars if this did not happen. From the get go I was hesitant to try them out but I figured why not. Cleaning and pushing the cuticles was uncomfortable. I could tell they were rushing and it actually hurt because they were pushing very hard and fast with the sharp instrument. I didn't say anything though because I didn't want to make things uncomfortable and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. The manicure came out lumpy and when I asked for something specific they seemed really annoyed dropping their tools on the table and huffing under their breath. At the end of the manicure the technicians are usually very good about helping you take your bag to the drying table/ helping you with your wallet/phone so you don't mess up your nails but they just got up and left so I awkwardly struggled to get all my stuff moved over. I understand that the margins on any one manicure are pretty low. I don't live close to the salon but I make the effort to drive out there because I've had a good experience in the past. Manicures are a luxury that I treat myself to even though getting them regularly can get pricey. What happened this time though made me rethink wanting to come here. Cleanliness- clean environment. I made an appointment online for a gel mani and regular pedicure. I was seen within 5 minutes. One toenail was cut a little too short - whatever. It happens. I've been getting gel manicures for ten years. I know that each layer needs to cure for at least 60 seconds. My tech, an older gentleman, didn't allow me to cure for the whole time. There were multiple layers that were only cured 30-45 seconds. I'm extremely disappointed in the end result. My nails look messy and have the consistency of regular lacquer. if I could give 0 stars I would. from the moment I walked in, was not greeted nicely, and was put with an incompetent nail tech. I'm not usually a mean person, however this made me very angry. I spent 2 hours in this saloon for shit nails. they're too thick, they're uneven, and I had to stop him before he did my designs because I didn't want to spend another 2 hours and $100 on my nails for me to be so unhappy with them. Also the nail tech never bothered even talking to me other then asking about what I wanted on my nails. DO NOT COME HERE. you will be treated like shit.
