I have been a client of this salon for over 25 years. I have remained a long time client because of the staff's professionalism, knowledge, and welcoming manner. Every time I visit the salon I'm always certain that Tom, the stylist I use, will give me the color and style that I will love. He takes care to listen to my wishes and work with me on the desired style. During the pandemic, I have visited the salon three times for both hair and nail services. Pre-pandemic, this salon has always been immaculately clean. During the pandemic, I remain impressed with the cleanliness of the salon and now the additional safety measures put in place. I had a really awful experience today at the salon. It was my first time there and the man who did my hair was really mean and abusive. I had called earlier in the day and was happy to get a same day visit. When I asked for a bouncy blowout he gave me a lot of resistance on how he couldn't achieve that without using a curling iron. I did not object. When he washed my hair, there was some soap left on my hair and I kindly told him that. He started yelling at me and insisted there wasn't any soap in my hair and that I lied about the length of my hair. I did not lie, and if I perceived my hair as medium and him as long, then it was simply a difference in opinion. He was very abusive and the price he quoted me was $85 which is insane, later he dropped it to $60. I have had my hair done all around the world and I have never had such a horrible experience. Don't bother. I made an appointment for a mani-pedi at noon (my lunch hour), two days before my son's wedding. I got there before noon. By 12:20, the person who would have performed the service was still rinsing the hair of another client, which means it would have been at least another 15-20 minutes. I recently had a facial for the first time with an Esthetician. I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. She explained that I could have some redness from the exfoliation and possibly a little puffiness. The atmosphere was relaxing and the music was soothing. I received a warm cloth massage on my shoulders, arms, and neck, which was wonderful to help me relax. She provided me with knowledge on how to keep my skin looking younger and healthier and the products to use for it. It was a pleasant experience and I can't wait to have another one. I then was able to have a consultation with the owner to see what could be done to change my appearance and give me back that confidence. My appointment is scheduled next week. She found my trouble areas and was very good at reading my body signals, reminding me to breathe at all the right times! I next had a mani/pedi. My manicurist was meticulous and really took her time with my feet! We didn't talk much at first but quickly warmed up to each other! I went yesterday and got a microdermabrasion. The person doing it was trying to sell me other services the whole time. I never got my email with the $15 off and explained it to them and it was like oh well your trying to cheat the system and receive the discount multiple times when this was my first time there. BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A HAPPY ENDING SPA!!!! I came here for my birthday and purchased a massage/facial package. They put me in a dirty room where you can clearly hear everything going on outside, which is distracting when you're in for a massage. The male masseuse didn't communicate anything with me but the pressure was nice throughout. When he got to my bottom half he put his fingers inside me without saying anything. I felt frozen and sick to my stomach. I left without even doing the facial and I'll never return obviously, and I'm working on a police report. AFTER she cleaned it off AND put a moisturizer on. How did she not see that? I'm disappointed and won't be back. Waste of money. I've been coming to Appearance for hair cuts and colors since they opened forever ago. Bill, who is one of the 2 owners, has always cut my hair and planned out my color. He is phenomenal, and I always get lots of compliments on my hair (when I'm not being lazy and putting it in a ponytail). Besides that, he is a nice, funny guy and conversation is always very easy and natural with him. The ladies who assist with coloring and washing are almost always very careful and thorough. The interior of the day spa is clean and nicely decorated. If you are looking for that typical, complete "spa experience", this place will probably feel a little small. That being said, they do offer a wide variety of services including massages, waxing, and mani/pedis, and there are separate, private areas for each. My 5 stars are for the salon side of the spa, and I would absolutely recommend trying Appearance. read more

I was visiting from out of town and asked Tom if he could accommodate a large group, understanding there were covid restrictions. He went above and beyond to accommodate to our needs and time limitations, spending days trying to move schedules around so that we could all visit together. He not only spent his time being sexist and talking down to his stylist but he was saying things to clients that I could overhear that were not appropriate. I had a $100 gift certificate. I made a mother daughter pedi appointment. The two girls were nice,but the place and service has a lot to be desired. They did not have clippers, they shared the snippers, (good thing it was my daughter!) and they had very few polishes to choose from. They did not have the summer color I wanted. The polish job I got was horrible. The tub had to be emptied out with a pot and towels!!! I am glad I did not pay. I feel bad that my friend spent her hard earned money. I had a gift card so made an appointment for uv gel nails. First off they only had 5 colors to choose from- and 1 uv lamp. The girl who did my nails couldn't seem to get the gel close to my cuticles no matter how many times I mentioned that there was a gap. She'd just layer it on thicker. In the end - it was what it was( the worst manicure I ever had) the next day I easily pealed it off and went to love nails in fishkill to get a real manicure. Would have been nice to get teal deep tissue/Swedish I'm used to with thumbs and pressure points. Not enough oil. Very loud. They try to have nice therapeutic music playing but it is masked by women talking loudly of politics and also some loud ghetto music maybe in salon part? PLEASE DON'T GO TO get a mani or pedi. This review is ONLY for mani and pedi. The lady was so nice but I'm not happy with my service. My toes hurt this morning because she buffed gel polish off my toes, and then scraped it off when it wouldn't come off easy. I was up here visiting for my birthday and I was given this as a gift. Now this gift is causing me pain. I can't get my nails fixed until the swelling around my toes goes down. Also, when trimming my cuticles she forced the tool when there was resistance. It hurt, but I figured that it was just the tool she used. The paint job is something I could have done myself and... they don't put gel on the toes! I get my nails done ALL the time but the way she did the trimming around my nails is causing the skin to become super dry and peel. If I could base it on personality the score would be much higher. The woman who did my facial was great! Very sweet informative and calming. It was my first time there so I had received an email with a $20 off my first service coupon. With that being said I was very happy until I went to pay. There was a man at the register who I'm assuming was the manager or owner. Unfortunately he was uninterested in how my experience was and barley even acknowledged my presence. On top of that he rudly request ion that I show the email for proof of my $20 off coupon, and said by the way it's only $15 off. I'm not here writing this feedback to bitch about $5. GET MANICURE HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK. The WORST manicure/pedicure EVER. Skin around nails was not well-trimmed, cuticles were left down over nails, filing on some nails was lopsided, color application was uneven -- some nails were darker in color than others, and coverage left bare spots in some places. The lighting in the spa is so dim -- there are no direct lights under which the manicurists work. Based on this alone it is little wonder the results are so bad. My manicure chipped and smudged after 1 hour despite 3 rounds under driers and being very careful after leaving the salon. I ended up removing the polish on the nails that evening and reapplying polish I had at home. My nails were left in such bad condition (like I had no manicure at all) that to apply new polish well was nearly impossible for me. WORSE WAS THE ATTITUDE OF THE OWNER toward me when I called the next morning. I was frank but polite about the issue and requested a redo with another manicurist. I was then made to feel I had to PROVE to him that the job was inadequate. He asked me to describe in detail what was wrong, and told me I should not have removed the polish and come back to show them what I was talking about. I explained I was already a half hour away when I noticed, and it was already after 6:00 p.m. before I arrived home that evening. To go the next day was impossible due to scheduled plans. When I mentioned that the manicurist was very nice, but seemed inexperienced I was accused of making "assumptions" and made to feel I was simply an obnoxious complainer. I enjoy going to Appearance Day Spa so much that I travel 2 hours from Connecticut to go there when I want a really good haircut. Tom has been cutting my hair over the last 28 years (though I don't make the trip every 6 weeks!) and coloring it, too, when the grays inevitably came in. Here's why I like it: 1). Tom is a real artist with hair. He would never make you look bad. 2). The products are great and not crazy expensive like many other salons. Tom is very good about explaining why he recommends a product and how to use it, while at the same time never pushing you to buy anything. 3). The owners are very conscientious about managing their staff, making sure that they are properly caring for clients. I'm willing to be that previous reviewers who may have had bad service would find those employees long gone. 4). The only time I ever get compliments on my hair is when Tom cuts it. The. Only. Time. If you live in or near POK, give it a try. I obviously wish I lived closer, and highly recommend Appearance. read more

I called to book an an appointment for a Father's day massage for my husband. We lived in Orange county previously and the Spa we frequented unfortunately went out of business. I spoke to Renee who was very nice and helpful, she scheduled an appointment and requested​ that I view the website for the spa menu and recommended that I come in for the nicely packaged gift card. I ventured over to the website and a marketing ad appeared requesting my info for $20 off and to expect it in an email shortly. I waited and it never arrived. I took my lunch break drove to the spa to settle the bill. The staff stated there was an issue with the website but would see how the $20 off could be honored (they weren't sure of the process). They approached the owner Tom who would take the $20 off the price but said my husband could ask for it when he arrived for his massage. This made no sense to me, so I asked why couldn't it be taken off the price. Staff returned to ask Tom who sounded quite annoyed at the question, he repeated his response and basically said deal with it. I thanked the staff for their time and left. The owner lost 2 customers. Two times a year I go to the spa with the one time being for my birthday. I either treat myself to a day at the spa or am lucky enough to receive a generous gift from a loved one. I normally go to Marlene Weber, Haven or the city. Last year Marlene Webber mixed up my appointment and I ended up at Appearance Day Spa. The facial, mani and pedi were really good, but the massage was less than stellar and I was not warned that the masseur was a man which just annoyed me and is a little unprofessional to not be forewarned. Plus to be there for hours without being offered a snack made me side eye the staff. This year I was going to skip my usual celebration of going to the spa until my mother decided to treat us both to a day at the spa. Since it was last minute the only place that had any availability was ADS because I was not in the mood to go to the city or too far from the Valley. And I was willing to give them a second chance. So my mother calls and speaks to the receptionist (Christie) who really did not know what she was doing or understood my mother's request when she called and booked her for all the wrong services. My mom asked for two of everything and young Christie only booked her for one of a few things, but not everything she requested and apparently never put all the services on the schedule so when we arrived everyone was confused. Now I am sure things like this happen all the time or even some of the time, but the way in which the staff especially this really obnoxious guy with glasses acted was appalling. Not only was my mother quoted the wrong price for double services, but the staff proceeded to argue and become combative when we asked to reschedule and for a proper quote. Instead of just quoting the package price they have and adding one extra service this obnoxious and condescending man proceeds to shoot his mouth off shouting out prices, not stating what the price was for simply saying "Oh well the price would be no where near that it would be $75 $75 $15 $15 $35 $45 $75....and so on" I knew how much the price was as I stated I went last year so I know there is a package that would have accommodated us and would would just have to add one additional service, but this man also says well all those services are a la carte. So of course instead of rescheduling my mother and I just said no thanks and walked out. I have never met a more unprofessional and unapologetic group of people in my life. As I stated earlier I go to the spa often and most of the time it is twice a year for a full day of services (not chump change), this whole in the wall "salon" which is really not even a spa needs to take a course in customer service. The only discussion should have been we are sorry for the inconvenience, btw happy birthday and what can we do to resolve this since we messed up. None of the above was apart of the conversation and I will never go back to Appearance Day Spa nor recommend them to anyone I know. Cristy, Dara, and Tom came to Red Maple Vineyard to do hair and make-up for my and my bridal party on the day of my wedding. They made me and my family the most beautiful I've ever seen us! After I got my hair and makeup done, I kept saying that I didn't just feel a little prettier than usual, I felt exponentially more beautiful than I've ever felt before. Which is exactly how I hoped to feel on my wedding day!! They to exactly what I wanted and implemented it perfectly, and they did the same for my sisters, mom, and mother-in-law. We even looked good in the photo taken at 3 am, which is a sign of really really good hair and makeup. It was fun having them around during the day because they are all so warm and friendly. Bill might be one of the owners but its not a good teacher he was rued to his student and wasn't there to over see the students work or explain right what it was he wanted his student to do every time he would show the student what to do to my hair he would pull it and kind of yell at him about it would give my hair back to the student and say did u see what I did and student would respond yes and then BILL would walk away from the student and I was able to see that he was getting annoyed with his teacher and so was i not liking it. EVERY Time Bill would touch my hair he would pull it I was getting ready to leave but I didn't the student was grate with me and did a grate job with my hair and he was not the only one that was getting annoyed with Bill I also saw a few of the Girls there that didn't like his way of working Bill needs to be there as a teacher and over see ever ones work with out the yelling and avoiding he gives his students im sure that is why most his workers go else where I do not plan on going there aging but I well find the student to do my hair a few more times... read more
