Would have given 0 if possible, had it not been for the negative experience being saved by nailtech Kevin yesterday. The first technician that my spouse was paired with was awful and he was reusing the disposable files that they're suppose to throw out after every client. His station was sticky, dirty and he wasnt listening when my wife very clearly told him what she did and did not want. She was super clear when she walked in and registered for the appointment that she just wanted a fill and new color, but to keep the length. She reiterated to the technician not to cut, just fill and new color with a simple design that she pulled out her phone to show him the shape which could be filed and the color and design. He was too rough and began cutting when she specifically told him not to. She stopped him and corrected him, and he lied and said she wanted them cut. She did not and she had stated that TWICE before they began. He was too rough while drilling down too hard and thinned the nail out too much and she was trying to tell him that but he SHUSHED her with his finger to his mouth like she was a child, pointing to his ear & he said he was ON AN APPOINTMENT PHONE CALL and she was disrupting him (WHILE HE IS SUPPOSE TO BE DOING HER NAILS-- COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND IT'S HIS FAULT HE MESSED UP BECAUSE HE WASNT PAYING ATTENTION TO HER, HE WAS FOCUSED ON A PERSONAL CALL IN HIS EAR INSTEAD OF THE PAYING CUSTOMER IN FRONT OF HIM. So, then when he applied the gel it BURNED and she had never experienced that with the previous technicians that she had gotten her nails done by at this same location this year. She told him it burned and he tried to tell her "That's Normal"-- NO IT'S NOT! She's gotten her nails done for years and has only had this problem when she has had an unlicensed technician who doesnt give AF. He also was about to cut her with his dirty ass drill because he was going too hard around the edges and his work was uneven and sloppy. She pulled her hand away, got up and distanced herself from him because he was just unprofessional and rude, and did not care that he was hurting her. She asked the manager if there's someone with way more experience who does really good nails who can help her since she now has naked nails. He did thankfully put her with Kevin i believe who was so much better. His station was very clean and he had a gold metal file that he sterilized before use. He also had a professional apron unlike most others so I could tell he takes his craft more seriously. He fixed the issue and finished her nails much to her satisfaction except one nail is shorter than the other (I think one of the thumbs) because that other tech cut it against her wishes. We were not offered any discount or anything, and we wont be back again because this is just not consistent quality work here nor sanitary. Manager didnt even say they were sorry, just nodded their head and said they'd talk to the guy after he was done with his next customer. I doubt they give a s***, but even if they had offered a discount or gift card, I would not come back after this last experience. We only started coming to this location because the other nail salon we use to always go to in Arlington has been very busy and not as big with only a couple of technicians so we have to make an appointment and sometimes wait still for a bit-- but honestly, they're way better and worth waiting a bit compared to Modern Nails. Go to First Lady nails in Arlington Poughkeepsie area if you want to be treated like an important customer and the owner will remember you if you become a repeat client, she is usually quite nice and personable, and professional IMO. However, at this point, I'm just going to find an independent tech with their own space or who is mobile who can come by my office to do my wife's nails. I'd rather pay someone who is licensed and who will be 100% dedicated to delivering high quality nails and a safe, sanitary experience than keep bouncing chop shop to chop shop risking my wife's health and causing her frustration during something that is suppose to be a relaxing, luxury experience. I do not recommend Modern Nail Bar in PK-- it looks nice from the outside but cleanliness levels vary per tech. If you do go here, check the station and tools before you let them touch you. Make sure they're using sanitized professional METAL tools-- if they're using the single-use files, they are not able to be sterilized and are only meant to be thrown away after each customer! It's basic hygiene and professional standard. They do not have their license posted visibly so I doubt they're licensed. I wish I had seen more of the recent reviews before we had gone there again. We went 4 times since October 2025 and this was the last time. Looks like several other people have had similarly bad experiences with the techs sharing tools and not sanitizing them & not listening. read more

Every time i go here there is an issue and they are always trying to up charge or not so what you are requesting. Last time i went for a pedicure and while using the callous remover he was looking at his phone and literally took off the top layer of skin on the tip of pinky causing it to bleed. Today was the last time i am going. I had powder on my nails and wanted it soaked off and then powder plus a design. They kept trying to insist that powder is no good and that i needed to have a gel fill. I was clear i didn't want a gel full. Lucy refused to soak off insisting it was gel and only filed and then dipped with powder. She wanted to charge me $115 for a design but the powder she was doing she only dipped twice and i told her that it didn't feel strong. She said that's why you don't use powder. I told her just to paint then one color and I'll be done. She charged me $85 she said it included a soak off fee!!! They never soaked anything off and a long nail fee?!?! Never have a paid $85 for powder and polish. I have tried to give this place several chances assuming it may be one or two bad nail techs but i have now gone four time and every single time there is an issue and they are finding ways to add additional fees! I went here today because my regular salon was closed due to no power from a violent storm. I had a pedicure first which was fine. I then sat for my manicure. I requested a dip fill and dip French manicure. He kept dipping my nails in the fill powder (4 times). I kept asking you are doing the French right? Pink and white he said yes I do(no English). He then took out the gell polish and I said no dip powder he didn't understand the manager had to come over and he said no dip polish. I was not happy. Also what normally takes me 35 minutes at my regular salon took 1 hour and 15 minutes. All of the techs were more interested in the World Cup game that was on over their clients. I used to love getting the spa pedicures here until my last visit. the guy cut and filed my toes and went straight to painting them. I questioned and he said he's doing things a different way and to not worry. He didn't do my cuticles or anything. He rushed through the whole thing. At the end, I asked to speak to the manager, and the manager tried telling me that when they use the machine that's them cleaning the cuticles. I said that's bullshit. Anywhere you get a pedicure they cut your cuticles and clean your nails properly.. I said not for nothing, He's scrubbing my toes with soap and water that are already painted. Not in Nyack, New York There are cookies, cupcakes, complementary wine, water, bubble teas, something they offered, I'm not sure what it was, maybe rice? However, it's already very crowded. It's very upbeat & trendy. Quite a few stations where you can have your nails done or a pedicure. It looks very clean and inviting. They should be successful, there isn't anything else around like them. The POS is Ultramodern. The pedicure chairs are also massage chairs and can charge your phone. The ambiance and staff are both awesome, sadly the nail polish was not great. I got a manicure with "regular" polish and within a day it started to chip and wear off. This is not acceptable. I got myself, my daughter, and my niece a pedicure and truthfully the service especially by the people in the front desk was anything but a good experience. The guy sitting there literally looked like he just did not want to be there and then when our service was done I was thrown like three different receipts by him because apparently I didn't get charged everything and it was all just so confusing that they even started fighting amongst themselves in Vietnamese. Service is great - they accommodate customers of all ages! I took my little ones to get their first mani pedi session. They put the kids into adult chairs, instead of the kids pedi chairs, so it was a bit tough for my youngest to get her feet in. I noticed they didn't put a top coat on the kids' nails. I get that kids and their nails won't last long, but at least a top coat would be nice. My pedicure felt good, but you're not necessarily coming here for the quality of the polish. My nails smudge while drying. I liked that I could get a boba drink in the process, but I'm not sure it was worth making the trip out here. read more

Really cute place inside! They give out complimentary drinks for the most part (sometimes they forget I guess lol but I'm sure u can ask) service is standard - nothing bad nothing great. Do not go to this place. The first time I went I waited 30 minutes after making an appointment to get a pedicure. I decided to give it a second chance. I made another appointment, showed up early, and still waited 30 minutes to be told the person who I had made the appointment with doesn't do that service. I left without the service being done. This was my first visit to this establishment. The nail technician, David, was extremely rude and unprofessional, and his behavior made me feel uncomfortable throughout the service. At one point, David stopped working on my nails to scroll through TikTok, which is completely unacceptable in any professional setting. Prior to the service, I clearly stated my method of payment, yet he repeatedly questioned how I intended to pay, which felt disrespectful and insinuating, as if he doubted my ability to cover a $50-$60 service. David never once asked whether I was satisfied with the nail shape, color, or overall service. Additionally, he raised his voice and yelled at me because I did not place my hand into the nail dryer quickly enough. This behavior was hostile, inappropriate, and unacceptable. As a minority-owned business, there should be a clear understanding of the importance of treating all clients--especially other minorities--with dignity and respect, particularly those who are supporting your business. The lack of professionalism displayed was deeply disappointing especially since I wanted to continue supporting this business. To add to the poor experience, the gel application was noticeably thin, leaving me concerned about the longevity of the service and whether it will last even two weeks. I decided to try this new nail salon and had the organic pedicure, valued @ $70 minus their discount. My tech, Thomas, was nice and he did a good job on my toes; however, I noticed the steam machine which was part of the service wasn't working properly so I didn't get that treatment smh and I left with my feet feeling a little dry. I asked for a gel mani and pedi, however the technician who was performing the work gave me a regular pedicure. I told him it suppose to be gel. He looked at me as if I was crazy. He looked at the ticket and realize he was looking at the working one. He hurriedly took off the nail polish and put the gel nail polish on toes. Felt it was sloppy done. When he did my manicure it was rush and my nails are not even. Very disappointed with the quality of work. While he was doing the work he was constantly on his phone texting someone. I NEVER write reviews but this needed to be wrote! I needed my nails and toes done for vacation. Booked an appointment for 10 AM Saturday. Got to the salon. Everything was great. It looked beautiful inside. I was really excited for my morning because as a nurse, I work seven days a week and I can't tell you the last time I had a pedicure or my nails done. They sent me down in the pedicure chair. They asked me what kind of pedicure I want, so I choose the most expensive lavish pedicure. The picture advertise a glass of champagne and fresh fruit during your pedicure. They brought me two small bags of potato chips and a Welches fruit snack serve served on a paper plate. Then I asked for the glass of champagne that was advertised and he said no. I think maybe they didn't have it. They also advertise red and white wine. So I asked for the white wine and he said no I have to choose one of the Boba or bubble teas or refreshers. I said OK not a big deal so I chose my drink. He starts doing my pedicure and I showed him a picture of what I wanted. A simple French pedicure with a light pink base and square toenails. He said OK OK OK many times. This man started cutting down my toenails so short and rounding them instead of swearing them. I told him no I need them longer and square and I showed him the picture again of what I wanted. He said OK and continued with the pedicure. So I asked him if he was able to add some acrylic to make them longer so he can square them. He didn't understand or speak any English, which is fine. The guy that was three pedicure chair, chairs down from me understood English so I told him what I wanted. Then they have another lady come and add the acrylic to my toes and she added so much acrylic that my toenails were so thick. It looked horrible. But I trusted the process and figured he would file it down or sand it down. Well, he did not. He did not clean or cut my cuticles, but he did end up cutting my skin a couple times. He was going to use the cheese grater thing on my feet but I don't need that so just to use the pumice rock. He said OK and never used it. he kept massaging my legs really hard that it was actually hurting instead of feeling relaxing. I ask him not to massage so hard. But again, he clearly did not understand and continue to dig his thumbs into my legs. Now it comes time to paint my toenails. I told him and showed him 1 million I wanted a light pink and I did not want a straight across French. I wanted a curved French. I showed him the picture again and Once again, he said OK. I didn't get anything that I asked for. Now it comes time to get my nails done and a lady was doing my nails. They came out ok. Not exactly what I wanted, but much better than my pedicure experience. Although my middle finger nail is crooked. So I asked her if she could just repaint my toenails to give me a better French she said yes so when she finished my nails, we went back over to the pedicure chair. She tried to bring me the same man that just did my pedicure. The first time I told her no please he is not good. I do not want him. She translated in her phone. "Just give him another chance" so once again here I am in the pedicure chair with the same man who did not understand anything that I wanted and gave me a horrible pedicure. He took off the nail polish just to repaint my nails, the same exact way for the second time. I spent four hours in that Nail Salon and I really needed to get to work and I lived 45 minutes away. He brought me to the register and I was going to ask to speak with the manager to hopefully not pay for the horrible pedicure that I got although I was going to still tip this man for his service and the time that he spent on me even though it was terrible. Everybody was busy at the counter on the phone, helping other customers. And I really didn't have time to wait any longer. So the bill came up to $222 for my full set French and my French pedicure. My daughter and i figured we would give this place a try since it was new. We went in today for a pedicure and a soak off gel manicure. It started out great but then quickly went downhill. There are no options when you sit down in the chair to pick what pedicure you want so we ended up with just the basic and we didn't know how to book a "luxury "pedicure. The pedicure itself was extremely fast and rushed. Every color I asked for they didn't have by the 6th time asking i just randomly picked a color just to get out of there. Once they soaked off the gel manicure, they just left my nails as is now maybe that's something they do but at my normal nail salon, they usually buff them out and cut them down. I could had asked for a plain manicure but honestly i was ready to just leave. So when I was all done with my pedicure and went to dry my nails, there were no chairs to sit at so you're standing with your feet underneath a dryer and was rudely rushed over to pay my bill. My guy was super sweet and did a great job! I ordered a boba and it came super quick and the taste was just right, wasn't too sweet and the bobas weren't too hard. The ambiance was really nice, you can tell they've put a lot of thought into the decor, which created a nice vibe. And even though it was a busy Saturday me and my friend got in and out really quickly. Since they're a new spot, I think they just needed to work some of the kinks out in the early days, but they're doing really well now service wise. read more

The short:I would not recommend the Modern Nail Bar to anyone and would rate zero stars if allowed. I received poor and rushed service from an inexperienced and unconcerned tech. The Long: I went in to get a pedicure and opted for the Golden Luxe option with regular polish. From start to finish it was clear that the young man (I think his name was bean) working on my pedicure was either incredibly inexperienced or was not interested in providing a quality service to me. The whole experience was rushed and obviously so when compared with those around me, who obviously were receiving the same treatment. I can only speculate as to why they were granted a better experience than I was. I also did not receive significant components of the service including the 20 minute massage. The brief one I did get was a combination of dry rubbing my neck and aggressively punching me in the back. My cuticles were not oiled, I didn't really receive any lotion, and I was asked to walk across the floor with bare feet at one point. Treatment materials were spilled on my shoes. This is absolutely not VIP service. On top of that, I received a regular polish. Throughout the service he continued to try to push for gel. I don't get gel so refused. I asked if I could see a color book, he wouldn't provide one and offered me one red color and when I asked for one darker brought another that was fine, but why am I unable to simply see a color book or pop up to pick up my color? At the end of the service, without waiting for me to dry, I was hustled across the building to check out. I kept asking if they had a dryer, because I was worried that the walk across would mess up my nails. He kept telling me no, that I needed to pay. I walked over and paid the almost 80$ service, the entire time I was hovered over by the tech to see my tip. After, I asked the front desk person if they had a dryer, they did and I was put underneath it. I thought perhaps that paying first was a standard practice, it was not as the woman who was sat next to me was walked carefully by her service tech directly from her seat to the dryer. I asked if she was asked to pay first and she told me no. Also, as anticipated, my pedicure was messed up and obviously shoddily done. I would share a photo but don't post pics of my toes on the web. The whole experience was frustrating and demoralizing and will require more money on my end to fix. The manager offered a gift card for a return service but I'm not willing to gamble on the quality of my experience. It is easy to be taken in with the appearance inside and the distraction of the free snacks and drinks. However, what I am paying for is a quality service and positive customer service experience. Flagging that here there is uncertainty as to whether you'll receive either, so may want to try some other places and simply bring your own boba. read more

My daughter asked for a design that she had done that looked NOTHING like the picture she showed the nail tech. She explained she didn't like it and asked for them to take it off and just put regular polish on her nails, they still charged her $25.00!!!! For a design that she took off and was unhappy with. When I paid I asked the person why I was being charged for a design that she ultimately didn't have, or like and she said "your daughter told her she liked it" which was a lie, she TOOK IT OFF. The whole time the girl was speaking in an Asian language to her peers complaining about my daughter, as it was extremely apparent she was annoyed that she had to remove the polish as if it was the first time someone did not like a design or a polished color. She didn't even try to give my daughter a design that she would like, and I was charged for it! Everyone should be aware, they're money hungry and RUDE. Don't recommend it'. I paid 80 dollars for VIP pedicure. Makes me feel NOT VIP. The worker is rush for the pedicure and the leg massage was not god at all.
