You can't hold fruit wine to the same standard you would for traditional grape wine. When using other fruits the wine turns out a bit differently and I find it is usually sweeter. So comparing this to other fruit wines I have had I would give Apple Barn an average rating. The wine is good but could be better. The wines were nice but not very complex. If you like apples and apple flavor you will enjoy this wine. You get to taste for free and I think they had about 6 or so different wines. My favorite was the apple-peach. The service was below average, the girl helping us didn't talk to us or tell us much about the wine. The parking is easy and there are other attractions and things to do in the same parking lot. read more

We used to be a fan of this place, and maybe not so much because we like "real" wine now. They are charging for tastings, $3 for one person and $5 for two people. We skipped the tasting because we had liked the Apple blush in the past. We probably should have done the tasting, because the wine was way too sweet. We should have saved the $18 on the bottle and spent it elsewhere. If you're a beginning wine drinker, or like fu-fu drinks, this is up you're alley. If you're a serious, or "real" wine drinker, skip it and don't waste your time. read more

My husband and I went here as one of the wineries in the area. We tried a few different wines however, I did not really think any were different enough to buy. My husband on the other hand did buy one of the dry wines which I do not prefer. They did have a really nice gift shop which we bought a few things from. read more

Our first stop on the Rocky Top Wine Trail of 5 wineries. We went in right before closing and asked the servers if it was too late to sample. She said not at all, served us a flight of samples, and was very friendly and courteous. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the Apple Rasberry, our favorite! read more

I went on the wine trail with my fiancé, sister, brother-in-law, and mother over Thanksgiving vacation. This was one of our stops and we should have kept going. Some of the wine was good but the service was just awful! The older woman who served us took the portion control stopper off the bottle and poured a dribble into the glass. We barely tasted the wine! She told my sister she had her 6 sip tasting limit so my sister told her to count again because she had one left. This place had the worst customer service ever and we will NOT be going back! P.S. Had one of the best meals EVER here. Start you off with hot apple fritters and apple butter- had the combo plate- a portion of fried chicken, chicken n dumplings, chicken pot pie and mashed potatoes- then desert as well. I tried so hard to eat it all- but just could not. Also shopped at the cider barn, creamy, chocolate shop and of course winery. Wines are a little sweeter than most- but still good. The people were super friendly and I appreciated the free tasting, but my goodness you can hardly call what they are serving wine. Everything is sickeningly sweet and more closely resembles syrup than anything else. My teeth hurt from all of the sugar just after four little sips. read more

Free samples while you wait for your table at the Apple Barn and Cider Mill... cant go wrong! Everyone there was friendly, not pushy and willing to talk about the wines. We left with The Pomegranate and the Raspberry. I call them desert wines, since they are on the sweet side. True wine-enthusiasts will not like this place as much because there is not much more than a sweet side selection. Great for people who enjoy sweet wines like Moscato and some Rieslings. read more

Out of all of the wineries on the wine tour this is my least favorite one. If you like wines with a base of apples then you will like the wine here. They are always busy and the staff is in to much of a rush to talk or be busy if they don't think you are going buy a case then good luck. There are always short with us. We normally buy a bottle or two but since we don't look like we know anything about wine they just walk by us until we have to ask for a tasting. It is still a stop on the tour so it is a must but just not that great. read more

My husband and I stopped in here while in town and were pleased to find we enjoyed several of their wines. The gentleman conducting our tasting (which is free) explained the differences in each one we tried, and he didn't rush us so we were able to taste and enjoy. We ended up liking several different wines, so we brought home a few bottles. read more

I had previously had the raspberry and strawberry apple wine thanks to my sister-in-law. They're both great sellers and seem appreciated, although I find them a tad sweet to me and lacking in the robustness of a good wine. But, we stopped her after a visit to the restaurant on the property. Cathy assisted us with our wine tasting. Cathy was wonderful, charming, patient, and engaging. We tried several of the wines, the apple orchard white, peach apple, strawberry apple, cranberry apple, and a blush apple. I like the diversity of products and the creativity they've applied to their products. I still tend to see the wines as being made for non-wine connoisseurs; however, you can't argue with the fact that they do quite well for themselves. In fact, they have won several awards for their efforts. If you're not flexible about your wine tastes or consider yourself a wine enthusiast, this may not be the place for you. But, even for me, I managed to walk away with a few bottles for the novelty of it. : ) read more

We did a wine tour. This was our second stop. The wine was not the tastiest. You get 4 free tastings. We only tried 3. A couple were not great. That made us not even want a 4th sample. The lady serving us was nice & pleasant. The wine just wasn't the best. read more

Although I read and heard great reviews about this place I was very disappointed with the service. The attendants were slow when it came to the tastings. I became very frustrated when it took all staff members of the establishment to help 1 customer. It was as if they had no idea what they were doing. I didn't know it took 4 employees to use a register. When I was ID'ed they didn't know what year was over 21.. (2 employees checked my ID) I wasn't thrilled with my experience and left without finishing my tastings. I was unhappy and so were various other customers. Some people even left before even getting their wines. I'm disappointed and will not be returning this winery. read more
