If I could assign a negative rating for my experience I would. I ordered a brand new iPhone 6s to find that they had shipped out the wrong model, all that was needed was a simple exchange. Instead the girl decided to RETURN it and then tried to have me purchase SECOND phone and told me it would take at least 5 days until I got my money back from the first purchase. Who just has 1,800 dollars lying around in their back account?! What is so hard about simple exchange? But since she already completed the return without my permission I am now told when I have enough money in my account I will have to RE ORDER and wait a further 2-3 weeks to get a new phone again. I have a 4 month old iPhone with Apple Care Protection Plan. In addition, I have apples extra customer "service" called One to One. So to my understanding that's over 300.00 worth of customer service products Apple has sold me for this product. My recharger cable has been showing signs of fraying the past week or so, and the other day it totally stopped working. That left me with a rapidly waning battery charge. I was at the start of four days of a packed schedule that would preclude me from getting to an apple store for a new cable any time soon. Since I don't have a land line that meant I would have to go four days without phone service unless I could get a cable quickly, So I drove 30 miles to go to this store for a replacement cable. The guy who "welcomes" you to the apple store said I couldn't just get a new cable! Further he said I had to make a genius appointment to have the "situation" looked at! Seriously??? Then he said there were no more appointments that day and I'd have to make an appointment for another day. How nuts is that ??? I told him my whole story and he dug his heals In further. He was actually palpably hostile as I asked him to reconsider. Nope. No go. Out of absolute frustration I walked over to the Verizon store and shelled out $15 for a cable. No lines. No hassle. No attitude. Just $15 for a two-cent cable that apple shoulda replaced w no questions asked given my recent $300.00 investment in their services . Not sure if this is rotten Apple policy, a worm-ridden apple store, or an outrageously inflexible and uncaring minion drunk on the rush of power he gets from screwing desperate costumer/ victims, But I'm not happy! read more

I was gifted an iPad for the my Birthday, but when I connected it to my laptop but it did not sync. I tried all the fixes I knew but nothing worked. I know this was a tech issue that was above my paid grade so I set up an appointment at the genius bar. As it turns out it was a software issue so Tyler the guy helping did all the work and downloaded everything for me. After about an hour and I half everything was updated and my iPad was all set. I've experienced a world of difference between the Apple store in Cambridge and the apple store in Boston. This apple store, I found the salespeople to be more trouble that its worth. I bought an ipod and 2 days later they released a new version. For the same price I would get 50 gigs more. Understandably I was annoyed because noone told me about the release. Asking at the store the salespeople said they have no clue when the releases are (shouldn't the new ipods in your backroom be a giveaway?). I had to speak to the manager and show that I wasn't going anywhere before I got the new and bigger iPod. The service was really not good. read more

This is easily my favorite Apple store in the area. Even if it's not the closest it will always be my go-to store because of how great the staff is here! Very disappointed with the service here. Came in to do a standard out of warranty express repair/replacement (which allows you to get an equivalent model to your existing non functional one for a heavily discounted fee). Multiple employees pretended they had no idea what this was and tried to sell me full priced phones or encourage me to use the recycling program (which gives you barely anything back). Once one finally acknowledged the service I wanted, they claimed it would take 2 days to even see someone at the "Genius Bar" which is for some reason required for this ... and this is during the week. Obviously nothing express about this ! And now after reading the website in more detail I realize this could all have been done by mail ... which they also didn't mention. read more

While I generally get annoyed by hipsters-i'm-too-sexy-for-my-soy-latte-and-my-faux-hawk, the folks here are not only knowledgeable, but agreeable to answering any question you might need to be answered. Hands-down probably the best apple store in the boston region because they will answer your question (albeit laughing at you while you ask it - hey, geeks have sense of humors too!) or will die trying to answer your question. As far as I am concerned, they know more than me - so their poop don't stink and they can act like it as well. I didn't have much luck with other apple stores, but this place converted me. Seriously, like a born-again conversion. This place gave me such great FREE support and full on attention to all my no-longer-warrantied,seemingly dead, war torn and shabby mac equipment with such miraculous results, that I had a religious experience. I must also say that Tim in the genius bar kicked ass and saved the day for me, so 5 stars especially goes out to him and the fix it ladies and gentlemen there. My story.......I had had my dead macbook lying around for 6 months after my bro 'borrowed' it and returned it to me in a comatose state (blank screen and a little flashing file with a question mark on it) after many tries to restart, and visits to online discussion forums, I had diagnosed a dead hard drive. So, 6 months later, I made a "genius bar" reservation on-line and got to the store an hour later. My goal was just to do something more effective with my macbook than use it as a bookend, like salvage one file maybe and then donate it for parts. but, essentially it was my little mac funeral. As I Was leaving the house, i picked up another casualty, a chunky g3 ipod that had been flashing me a 'sick mac' icon for the past year, despite many resets and online support consults. I put the little blank ipod in the bag, thinking apple might still be offering a trade in discount towards a new nano (fyi, they aren't anymore). So, I was just there to bury the dead. However, By the time I left, Tim at the genius bar had found my macbook problem and taken an hour out to reconstruct the whole drive .... the fully operating puter was handed to me running, without me loosing more than a couple of media files!!! AND, if that miracle were not enough, when I pulled out my Ipod... IT WAS SUDDENLY WORKING... Yes!, no one had touched it, it had just sat inside my bag for an hour, inside the apple store....I had re-set it, with no result, 3 months ago. But its screen was bright and was flashing out an itunes cover-art desgin from Depeche Mode (for any eschatologists out there, it was "Just cant get enough") Was the song.... perhaps a sign of some sort? was my ipod a little Lazarus and Tim the computer guy the second coming??! Today was tax free day, so here goes my mall date... I & my girl walked into the apple store aropudn 1PM and there was this geeky fat kid with apple logo in his chest stopped us and asked us something quick. I was a little bit surprised, because we were "entering" the store. So I stopped and the kid asked us again if we are making a purchase today. I was very surprised to be asked and asked back "why? do we have to give you an "assurance to buy something" before enters? (Indeed, I was heavily intersted in buying I-Pad, so I wanted to "test-drive," at least...) I told him it's none of his business whether I buy it or not, I wanted to try some product first. Then I couldn't believe my ears what I heard. He said "I am sorry, sir. we are doing "somekind of (I don't remember the name)" special promotion, we cannot let you in if you are not going to buy." As you can imagine, I was vey perplex, then upset, (Am I in Newyork club or what?) and the guy keep saying that he's sorry and he cannot do anything about it. I looked around and there were about five, in their early 20s, dorky kids lined up in front of the store, so I realized it was some kind of special occassion. I removed myself b/c I wasn't "that" into buying it without test-driving it (I don't lie...) and I don't usually make a scene for this kind of college kid with limited communication skill crap. Yes, this happened on 1PM on tax free day in Cambridge Gelleria Mall, not 1AM in the morning @ some secret society of apple geeks gathering. (I am sorry, I love Mac, I work with MAc, I am not that religious to it, I am no better than others by just using "a product"...) I don't know what happen to teh basic consumer right. Is Mr. Jobs (& the store manager) gone completely mad with his blue shirts clan? Is this some business norm that I don't get it? I walked into this apple store yesterday to inquire about problems with my iPhone 4g bumper refund. It was very busy so I waited in line for the woman taking reservations for the genius bar. She ignored me and took another person waiting in line. I said to her actually I have been waiting and she said fine and rolled her eyes at me. I explained to her the bumper issue and she instructed me to wait over to the right and someone would help me. So I waited for a while before I realized I would need to find someone else to help me. I went to Micro Center in Cambridge last Sunday to buy a computer. The store was crowded but I was able to get an associates attention. I told him I was interested in a Mac and he pointed at the display and said there they are. He was constantly turning to other customers to help them, OK it was busy. I asked him if he could show me the in stock selection and I asked about transferring data from my old PC. He said they could transfer the data but it would take a day or two. He left to help other customers and I could not find him again. While I was at the display I logged onto the Apple Store at Cambridgeside. The same computer I was working on was the same price at that store. We drove to Cambridgeside and the Apple store was mobbed but I was referred to Vanessa right away. She answered all of my questions showed me how to sign up for tutorial and took my order. I had my old PC in the trunk of my car and she told me to bring it in and they would transfer my favorites etc. The entire staff including the store manager could not have been more helpful. I bought my Mac and they called me at 6:00PM to to tell me my Mac was ready to be picked up. I had my new computer up and running that night with all of my old info intact. They helped me to get my old PC and new Mac to the car and refused a tip. I cannot tell you what a positive experience this was. I am most impressed and grateful for the entire staff at the Apple Store. read more

Not been one much for writing reviews, perhaps that's because I'm closer to 60 than 30. Seems like young people get a bad wrap when it comes to personalized service and going the extra step to make something right. Couple of weeks ago i had to get my Ipad fixed. Just want to give a big shout out to Melissa-Leigh Gore from the Cambridge side Apple store, she was just awesome. Personable, friendly, knowledgeable, quick, and helpful just awesome to have her help me fix my Ipad. Gave me tips and was very patient while I was dig-gin for pass words, hate them, but i realize how necessary they are, just way too many... This is smaller than your typical Apple Store, but they take great care of you. Sometimes on Newbury Street you can feel a bit unattended to - the service feels somewhat perfunctory and uneven at times, with some staff incredibly friendly and others a little too blithe - but at Cambridgeside, maybe owing to a more intimate feel, you're in for a more consistent experience. Have been to the Genius Bar here several times for my Macbook Pro and iPad. Have always had a good experience. Yes, you have to wait even with an appointment but that is the same at any Apple Store. But if you are patient and courteous, it is well worth it. Last time I was in for my 2007 Macbook Pro (yes, it is that old and still working fine!) I needed a new battery and power cord, both were given to me at no charge. See how it pays to be a loyal, patient customer! I was also given advice to buy some additional ram. I had a really positive experience at the Apple store this week. My 2-year-old macbook had been having a series of problems-- freezing, locking up, overheating, not waking from sleep. I had already tried everything I could think of, even wiping the hard drive and installing OSX from scratch. I brought it to the Apple store thinking they'd either not be able to reproduce the problem and ignore it, or maybe just give up on diagnosis and give me a new laptop if I continued to have problems (since I bought apple-care any service would be free). Really, I just wanted my laptop to work, as I use it all day every day as a graduate student. I went in, they ran diagnostics, discovered that I had installed a different type of hard drive. However, they didn't just assume that was the problem (which it wasn't) and use that as an excuse to send me home. Instead they ran a bunch of diagnostics and replaced some cable (the Hard drive/IR/Sleep cable and HD bracket) that seemingly has fixed my computer. It has been 2 days and so far I am incredibly happy. To me this was the perfect computer-fixing experience-- I did everything I could, I brought it in, they kept it for ~24 hours, fixed something I couldn't have figured out myself, and now (fingers crossed) my laptop works again! WOOHOO! um, or maybe i'm a little too excited about this. but after having my computer slow down and then completely freeze every day for the last couple of months, having a working computer again makes me want to hug the Apple employees that fixed it. And also to write ridiculously positive reviews on Yelp. read more

So- I was stupid and decided to wait to do my Christmas shopping until the 23rd... my own fault I suppose. But I was still shocked to find the mall so packed at 1pm on a Tuesday (am I the only one who doesn't have the entire week off?) After standing in line forever at the book store and foolishly venturing into the toy store, I walked into the Apple Store and decided that everyone was getting ITunes gift cards this year. So, I stepped into line at the desk and a nice employee (whom I will love forever) offered to ring up my purchase on this little hand held keypad AND he even emailed my receipt to me. Done. That's it. It literally took me 2 minutes to finish my shopping. Why doesn't every store have those things ??? Just for that, I will purchase another MAC soon (this one has had a good run) from this location. Besides, the Apple guys are pretty hot and know their computers. i love you apple. have since i inherited my first mac classic :) and here are some of the reasons why: 1. customer service - not only have i had repairs done to my computers far beyond their warranty expirations at no charge (up to and including replacement logic boards), but they also have an "educational grace period" if you're studying abroad, your computer breaks, and you can't reach an apple store before the end of your warranty. the genius bar is always helpful. maybe they're not always the friendliest (though sometimes they are!), i appreciate that they always give it to me straight. i'm sure it helps that they're not salespeople, so i value their advice even more. yes, it's always crowded, but you can make an appointment online! with travel time to the galleria more often than not you don't realistically have to wait that long. 2. other staff - have always been great! they've given me a student discount when i forget my ID (phew!) and do their best to handle my indecisiveness. oh, and they never bug you about taking your time to play with the products on display. 3. products - my only complaint is they keep getting better and better before my old machines die, thus killing any and all justification in updating :) read more

The store is always staffed with a generous amount of employees, who are very proactive and friendly. That is what earns the store a two star rating. My problem came when my iMovie went berserk. Videos would play garbled and staticy, if at all, and most of my projects were inaccessible. I'm somewhat competent with my computer, so I was able to determine it was the project fies and not the source data. So I decide to take it in and see if they could do anything to save my work. One project in particular had days worth of work put into it, and was so incredibly close to being finished. I spent an hour or two with a genius, and he went through every step I had done myself. He then came to the stunning conclusion - its probably the project files. We agree they are corrupted, and I ask him how such a thing happened so I can prevent it. He has no idea, but tells me I can leave the computer overnight for a more detailed diagnostic. I say sure, and am told I'll be called when its ready to pick up. I spend the next day trying to be busy without my computer (yes, I am addicted, I know) and finally at about 8 I realize they must have found a more serious problem, and it must be taking longer to fix. I decide to call and get a new estimate for the return time, and am met with an automated phone system that takes a while to get through to a real person through. For a store that supposedly all about customer service, I didn't expect a phone system. Get through to someone, am transfered to another, and this guy tells me he is going through the list of people to call to pick up their computers, and I am on that list. Not a "sorry, we forgot you" or a "sorry, we haven't gotten to you". Is it customary to let people know they can pick up their computers an hour before the store closes, making it impossible for me to get there? There goes a day of work I could have been doing. Also - if they don't mind using a computer phone system, why not integrate that to the computer pick up messaging? That way you minimize forgetting to call people. So I pick it up the next day, and another genius tells me the hardware was fine, and new movies they tried were fine. I ask again, was there any indication as to WHY the files corrupted, because without understanding the problem itself, it will probably happen again at some point. I was given the explanation that sometimes moving files will cause the corruption... Great, but I haven't touched the project I needed saved the most in weeks, nor moved any of its source files. For holding my computer hostage an extra day and not being able to tell me why the computer f'ed up other than a "these things happen" I give this store a two star rating. read more

The absolute worse every time. I ordered and paid for an item online, showed up at the store to pick it up, and gave up after a half hour of waiting for someone to simply retrieve it for me. It's the second time I've walked out of this store after waiting for service and it will certainly be the last. I canceled the order and will learn to live without this item. I think Apple Stores need to have their own version of the "American Express Members lane" that American Express centers abroad have. Maybe it sounds petty, but I don't think its cool to let loyal customers vie for the attention of sales staff along side people who are just coming into look and will probably not buy anything anyway. This store is way too crowded and way too much of a mob for ordinary retail standards to apply. They had a lot of cameras and video cameras, except that none of them could actually be turned on and tested out. It was more like, "which camera brick do you like better, hun?" I am still in shock from my experience at the Apple Store in Cambridgeside today - it's hard to believe it wasn't an April Fool's joke! My 10-month-old Macbook Pro battery had been dying in 45 minutes, so I made an appointment for 6pm today. I arrived at 6:02 (thanks, Cambridge traffic!), and was back out the door with a NEW, FREE battery by 6:06. That's right: 4 minutes. As soon as I stepped in the door, a woman guided my to the Genius Bar. The guy there plugged something into my USB port, said "yep, your battery's shot," and grabbed a new one off the shelf. I asked if he needed to see a receipt to prove when I had purchased the battery, and he said, "no, we like to assume the best of our customers." He popped the new battery in, told me to calibrate it when I got home, and that was it! I was so amazed by how quick my visit was that I forgot to stop at the other store in the mall I was planning to go to. I am not exaggerating when I say it took me longer to get in and out of the parking garage than it did for me to get my NEW, FREE battery at the Apple Store. Fantastic job, people. read more

I don't know why the ratings are so low, here. The Geniusbar technicians are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The sales staff is very patient and willing to work with you and give you all of your options. My phone couldn't be fixed, not because they didn't know how, but because the frame was bent. So I ended up having to buy a new phone, and had to drop cash I don't really have, but it had nothing to do with them. The service there is top notch, I actually enjoyed the experience even though the outcome may not have been ideal. read more

I cannot say enough about the great service I received at the Cambridge store, today. Two Apple employees spent about an hour, getting my IPad, mini IPad and my IPhone synced with the Cloud.
