I saw all kinds of positive reviews about this place. I drove an hour to try it, and let's just say we had two bites and asked for a to-go box. We had brisket, pork, and ribs. The brisket was dry, and all the meat tasted like smoke, and the pork had a fowl taste. We had mac and cheese straight out of the freezer, and I'm sure the sweet potato was frozen, too. Apple City BBQ is only open 3-days a week, so make sure you're the first customer when they ooen their doors on Thursday at 11 AM! I came here for lunch and ordered the BBQ Sandwich with potato salad as my side. It was delicious and fresh! The BBQ had a great smoked flavor and the sandwich was topped with coleslaw. The slaw was perfect and didn't have excess amount of "juice". The sandwich came with your choice of sauce, hot, sweet, or vinegar. I picked hot, but it wasn't that hot to me. The Potato Salad was delicious too. I finished it before the sandwich! I can't wait to try more of the menu the next time I visit Taylorsville. The only reason they get 4 stars is because I wish they were open more days! read more

The service was great but my pulled pork sandwich tasted like burnt campfire wood and was inedible. Sides were great however.

I personally have not eaten there, however, at an accident in front of their business I asked if I could purchase some food for the young kids whose parents were involved in the accident and they fixed up some food and drinks for the kids and didn't charge me! Small little bbq joint with indoor and outdoor seating. Nice atmosphere and service was great. Simple menu with good amount of choices that don't overwhelm. I tried the bbq sliders which came with pulled chicken, pulled pork and brisket. Really good and the sauce was phenomenal. My picky kids found some food they liked and my son was excited to see he got 8 nuggets instead of 4 like most places. All and all it was a really good place and I highly recommend. Pulled off to check out yelp. Never can tell in a really small town because of the sample size, but it looked decent so we put it in the Waze. Had to drive a ways, but boy was it worth it! We were in Taylorsville for a dance competition and was fortunate to locate this spot for lunch. I had the slider trio ( brisket, smoked chicken, pulled pork) with sweet potato casserole. My DH had the brisket sandwich with baked beans. Everything was very good, well seasoned and fresh homemade pickles. I got the slaw and pickles on the side. Very fresh! It was so good I forgot to snap a pic before it was all gone. I see why other reviewers said to make it a stop. They are only open Thurs to Saturday and it gets busy quickly. read more

After reading all of the positive reviews, we made the trip, arriving 11:30. Our group ordered pulled pork, brisket and chicken. The pulled pork was excellent, while the chicken and brisket (the main reason for the visit) were on the dry side. The flavor profile was there, it was just dry. My guess is the meat had been prepped earlier and had been holding for several hours. All of the meat had a decent amount of smoke flavor. The sides of mac n cheese, beans, potato salad, and sweet potato casserole were not bad, but nothing special either. The service was excellent. If we return, we will stick to the pulled pork. read more

Apple City BBQ is a newly opened BBQ joint in Taylorsville, NC. They opened in September of 2016 and they serve a number of pit smoked meats. It is located right off of HWY 16 and would be easy to miss if you didn't know what you were looking for. The facilities are clean and new, and the atmosphere of the place is clean and modern. They have a number of signs on the walls, a number of booths and tables, and a flat screen in the corner. They offer sit-in, take-out, and they even have a drive-thru. Keep in mind that they are only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They have great lunch specials that run from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. I opted for the BBQ Tray which came with slaw, BBQ, and Hushpuppies. All of this was only $5.25. I ordered this and it came out within five minutes. It was a great deal. The tray was loaded up with BBQ. The BBQ had very good flavor and you could tell that it was pit cooked. It had a great smoky flavor. The BBQ didn't really fall into an Eastern or Western Category, but it seemed to be more Western. It was very moist without being fatty and honestly could be eaten without any sauce. I really wish that I would have gotten some bark in there, but it was good. They offer two sauces, a sweet thicker sauce and then a traditional vinegar based sauce. Both were very good. The sweet sauce was good to dip the hushpuppies in and the vinegar obviously went well on the BBQ. They offer both red and white slaw. I opted for the white slaw. It was good, but it wasn't anything to write home about. The hushpuppies were very good: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The sweet tea was also good. The service was great. My sweet tea was refilled pretty much after every sip. As I mentioned before, the food came out very quickly. I hope that this place does well. It is definitely off to a good start. Apple City is a great option for BBQ if you are in the Taylorsville area. read more

I haven't tried other bbq in the area but this place is really good. You get big portions. The jalapeño bbq sauce is my favorite. Mac & cheese and coleslaw is nothing to brag about. That doesn't really matter though because the meat is what really matters. read more

I've stopped in here about 8-10 times now and have enjoyed the Pork BBQ everytime. I've had the BBQ plate with beans, slaw, okra, banana pudding (of course) and I've bought the Picnic Style for take-out. Its always good and it's a good value. I drive between Charlotte and West Jefferson routinely so I make this a regular stop for dinner on my way or I get the Picnic Style to take up to WJ. I love this BBQ! read more
