Need for improvement. This used to be, and still is, my "go to" several times a week, but over the past year or so, the veggies and fruits aren't fresh. And some of the flowers are wilted or broken. They put stuff on sale, but when I get home the Campari tomatoes are mushy and the bottom strawberries moldy, for example.The apples are often bruised. The fish market is still great, and it's okay if some of staff doesn't speak English, but there needs to be a way of knowing that and getting assistance when needed. Also, waiting at the deli or fish counter for someone to assist is sometimes too long. read more

I love having Apple Farm in my neighborhood! Their prices are usually great for produce, breads and deli. The produce is usually very reasonably priced and the checkout is airways FAST. Occasionally the produce is on its last leg as far as freshness, but that is usually made up for by lowered prices, such as multicolored bell peppers sometimes as cheap as $0.59/lb. At a price like that you know to use it right away, and when it costs so llttle you don't mind throwing some away..... Their deli prices are always favorable, but the severe language barrier can get very frustrating when you're asking for something to be sliced thick, etc. This location is better then their Peekskill location, but it's way way way way too small!!! read more

I love this market. They have a little of everything and so far are the only place where I have been able to find these delicious little honey nut squashes! I enjoy their hot foods too and always find something to bring home when I stop in! Lines move quickly which is great, but now that we have to take our own bags everywhere, I wish they would give you a little more time to pack. Sometimes I get to register and the person working will grab my bags and start throwing things in haphazardly which is a tad annoying. I try to bag my own stuff so that I can separate the hot stuff from the cold and end up having to re-do everything! But other than that, this is a great market and definitely a favorite for their huge selection of hard to find items! read more

As close as you're going to get to Whole Foods on a local level. Great selection of produce, fish and meat. My only issue is the closing time. If you walk in any time past 7:00PM, almost everyone is the process of cleaning up and closing down (the salad bar is always empty by then and the deli items are wrapped up). Closing at 9 or 10 would be optimal. read more

Do you remember when bananas were yellow and pineapples had a golden color? We had been buying them green and as hard as potatoes and ripening them in a cloth bag - they never managed to taste very good. Remember red peppers that weren't wrinkled? Apple Farm has come to Croton with the great produce of its other stores minus the no frills, no thrills decor of its other funky locations. They kept the style of Zeytinia. Not only is the produce delicious but the prices are much lower than the local big bad wolves that surround the village (who shall remain nameless.) The fish is great and not terribly expensive -the selection is small but rivals Turco's in quality but not in price - which is reasonable. Let's hope the location does not continue its jinx - Green and Grain opened and closed before the sun revolved around the earth once and Zeytinia closed when the paddy wagon took away the owners. The staff are nice and the store is small enough that you don't need a Sherpa guide to find things - and you don't have to answer if you found everything you're looking for... Please patronize this store. We deserve that level of quality and price. PS - Apple does not have a Yelp presence. If you work there please make sure you claim the business. read more

Twice I got rotten veggies, and when I went back, all the employees were "very" unknowledgeable about "how to treat a customer". Nobody wanted to help, and the woman manager disappeared. Very annoying. some of the merchandise is very expensive, when all the large market have huge specials, they were annoyed that I had a complaint. Nobody ever offered me a "free replacement". WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A SIMPLE EGGPLANT, and the second time, A SMALL ACCORN SQUASH. They were all brown and rotten inside. If they just offered a replacement I would have been very happy. Just opened in Croton, NY so I figured I'd check it out. It looks pretty much like the place that was there before but with a new name. It looks like they did nothing but move in. The Black Mission figs I purchased are gross, mushy and over ripe. They will go into the garbage. And they were in two different places with two different prices, one for 2.99 and one for 4.99. Really? I told an employee and she was obviously irritated that I bothered her. The non perishable items I got are ok. I suppose the price is pretty much comparable to other markets. Almost no customers. Place is pretty depressing. If I was going to shop there on any kind of a regular basis, which I'm not, I would not buy any perishable items and would check the sell by date on everything else. It's not a great location customer wise, which is probably why the other store closed. There are larger, better supermarkets in the area and I imagine people will continue to shop at them. read more

Now they have new bubble tea section . Wow. The tapioca ball was just cooked right, soft as it should be and well balanced with taro flavor. Now I don't have to go NYC or Flushing to get bubble teas. So happy they added bubble tea. read more

There is a great amount of produce and a minimal amount of other pantry items for a fan of healthier options. The staff is a bit unpleasant, but they help if you ask. Ive been there twice, and each time it has been pretty dead - so ive been able to make my way through the aisles with ease. Im sure if it got busy it would be a bit difficult to meander through. True to its name they sell a lot of different kinds of apples and many are local which is great but I wouldn't go back to buy groceries. A lot of the produce that I wanted was old, some stuff was moldy. read more

Vegetable prices are mostly reasonable, but $9.99 for a small container of organic strawberries? The non organic were all filled with mold. If you are looking to cook your products the same day, I definitely recommend due to the low prices. However, the produce just doesn't last. Seems like they buy the stuff that other grocers just don't want because it's not very fresh. Store is small and employees are not friendly. read more

This is an excellent grocery and prepared foods store. The produce prices are much cheaper than other stores around here and good quality. They have a small but decent fish area. They offer the most reasonable raw bar for clams in Westchester. You pay $1 to have them shuck cherry stones top necks or little necks and you can eat them at picnic tables in front of the store. Ask them for the cocktail sauce--they keep a spicy one in the fridge in the back. It's like $8 a dozen for big cherry stones vs $1.50-2.50 per clam in a restaurant. Great deal and you can grab a beer or soda and have a nice low calorie snack. read more

Just tried this store for the first time. Loved the selection of produce. Great prices. Just ate one of my plums and want to come back and get more. The cheese selection was also good as well as the prices. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the employees were kinda rude. I also love that they have lots of specialty items like frozen mochi/daifuku and some high end tasty stuff that you would find at Whole Foods in addition to the basics. I have never written a review before, seriously. I hope that all of CROTON and the surrounding communities find this hidden gem in the corner of the old Grand Union (currently CVS and the post office) shopping center and make this place thrive.. Assortment/selection = EXCELENT compared to the local big box stores, in my opinion. The prices are both fair and great. Fresh items and reduced/discounted (aged) items are available, I have purchased both. All items have been good quality and have worked in preparation, with no disappointments. Good Asian influence with fresh bean sprouts, tofu and much more, just look. Many frozen product, including organic. They even have traditional pierogri products in the refrigeration section that I have tried. Breads are fresh and located in the back right corner of the store with some of the discounted packaged produce, adjacent. Just look around and you will find what you are looking for and more. The discounted name brand deli meats (BH) are incredibly priced compared to others. I tried the fresh sausage it was good. I have not tried the fish yet, my partner is a commercial fisherman and I am spoiled in that regard. I will try the fish as the season changes. I agree with what some of the other reviewers have said about staff. I plan on talking to management when the opportunity presents itself. BON APPETIT! read more
