Full disclosure, I used to sell Apple products at an Apple reseller. I never worked for Apple, however. Now that that's out of the way. I want to share my first warranty experience at Apple. I have a 27 inch 2013 iMac that I absolutely love. This week, it broke my heart. On Wednesday, I spent the entire day installing music libraries for use in Logic Pro X. Midway, I decided to check how the instruments show up in Logic. To my dismay, they were not showing up. Turns out that I had to update a third party product so that Logic could use it but, at the time, I did not know that. So I did the most reflexive thing and restarted the machine. But now, instead of booting, I got this circle with the slash through it. I tried several time machine restores to no avail. I considered erasing and installing a fresh OS. But after spending 6 hours trying to fix it through time machine restores, I was not in the mood to just nuke the drive and hope for the best. So I went online.... always, always, always, make an appointment online! Your genius bar appointment will go smooth. I spilled my heart out on the genius bar appointment online. My serial number for the imac was already entered since it is registered to my Apple ID. When I arrived for my morning appointment, the kind specialist asked what was wrong. So, naturally, I spilled my heart out about my computer in the short time it took to walk over to the genius bar desk where another specialist asked me the same question. After quickly catching my breath, I gave her the same longwinded story that was short by, perhaps, 2 or 3 words. Then a gentleman behind the desk called me by name! I thought, "Yes! He knows why I'm here." Then he asked me why I was here, at which I replied, "Failure to boot." I should write for Cliff notes (is that still a thing?). This gentleman was training a fellow employee on genius bar appointments. I was still about 15 min early for my appointment so he said to wait for a tech to arrive to discuss my problem. About 20-25 minutes later, the tech came out. He was very friendly and knew why I was here. He offered some straightforward theories on the problem at hand and ruled out any hardware issues. I asked him how many days of downtime I should expect. He said a few hours! In about 4 hours, the work was complete. Plus, I did not have to use a Time Machine restore! As a former PC owner, I usually opted to fix my computers because service centers took forever and a day to fix them. Apple has set the gold standard for service. I hope I never have to come in again for service. But if I do, I expect to be impressed! read more

What is it with this particular Apple store? I've been to the N. Michigan Ave., Oakbrook, Schaumburg and Orland Park stores and none of them are run as poorly as this one! Customer service is almost non-existent. Picture this, a bunch of employees milling around just talking to one another on one side of the store, while avoiding the customers on the opposite side like the plague and pretending they're busy? Doing what? Who knows? I have no idea if anyone really buys anything here, if I didn't know any better I'd say it looks like some kind of front, or is it just plain old immaturity, I'm too cool to wait on you because I work at an Apple store!!! I would like to give this location of Apple outlet a single Star. Wish I can go lower. I arrived at the store 40 minutes before my appointment time as my prior appointment finished early. The lady doing check-in told me to wait 40 mins before even getting in the line. Then, even after waiting, when I went back, she did not check me in - just pretended. I came to know of it when after waiting another 20 minutes nothing happened and another guy with iPad came to me and checked me in. So, I was checked-in 20 minutes after my appt time. Bad customer service. Anyways, I gave my phone for battery replacement and after 2 hours I went back in to pick up my phone, the staff said that my online name does not match my ID and hence they will not give me my phone back. Trust me - they were really rude and impolite as if I was there to steal someone else phone. That didn't stop there. The manager came to me and gave me one of the silliest possible recommendation. He said, I need to go and apply for new ID with state agency to get my name matching my online apple ID. Unless that is done, he will not give me "My" phone which has following information: 1. Passcode lock, that only I know, 2. My fingerprint sign-on, 3. My several pics with "My" face in them - including lock screen 4. My work email and apple ID email, and 5. My iCloud account that only I can unlock to change my settings (even name which does not need to be my legal name) He also mentioned that after 2 months, he will recycle/discard the phone. I recalled one famous quote - "Never get on the bad side of small minded people who have a little authority." He is just a store manager, but he showed me how he can take a decision about my personal property which is neither his asset, nor a cheap commodity (it is a 900 USD phone that includes a portion that goes towards his monthly salary). I am a reputed senior executive at my firm, but I was the one getting victimized here due to his lack of job training and more importantly, his in-compassionate behavior. I am not sure, why they did not give me a mere piece of paper that can prove that they have my phone. Old school - but it is excellent way to avoid this irrational behavior of Apple employees. On one side, Apple boasts of user privacy, and one another, its employees want us to publicize our real legal name on online accounts. Thankfully, the rep who signed me in came by, validated my identity, and finished the transaction. I sincerely hope that Apple HR deptt includes a mandatory customer sensitivity training in learning plan for it's customer facing employees, and especially the team leads/managers. read more

The spring broke on my iphone, (the one at the top right corner) and i wasnt able to shut my screen off, I had to always wait for it to do it by itself. I called AT & T and they said I had to go to an Apple Store...well, this one (on North Ave) being the closest, I drove there, and not only was my fiance and I blown away by the decor, the service was out of this world. I have never been treated SO NICE and FAST! no questions asked, they looked at the button and gave me a brand new iphone. of course I had the warrenty on it, so that is why. but there were SO many employees there, every single person was helped in a timely fashion. This place gets an A from me!!! -however, only downfall was parking, its street parking - if you can find any- but I blame that on the area...its a very busy area and parking is always bad! read more

I had recently came in to get my computer fixed. Apparently, the whole hard drive was corrupted and I needed a new one. Also, I had to fix an existing problem with my dvd/cd player in the computer. I guess I forgot that I still had a warranty on the computer because I ended up paying nothing for the repairs. The reason i'm giving the Apple store 5 stars is because of their customer service. Never have I been to a store that's this patient. I agree with others, the Apple Store on Michigan Ave is crazy chaos (which I can understand because there are more tourists on Michigan Ave). They are so kind and very knowledgable about the product here. Obviously the associates must know a lot about Mac's before they start working here. read more

I was so grumpy about my Macbook breaking for the third time and getting stuck on hold with the automated call prompter for 25 minutes that I was sure I was going to leave today super irritated and unhappy. Instead, the guy who helped me at the Genius Bar was SO helpful that I made a yelp account to write a good review! I showed up 20 minutes before the store closed (with an appointment) and the guy was with me pretty quickly. I told him what was going on and he immediately knew what tests to run. Since it was the third time this stupid wire broke in my hard drive, he worked really hard to make sure the repair was done right then so I could have my laptop for finals! READ THIS: if you need your iPHONE repaired. Last week I attempted to have my phone repaired. At the store, they claimed they couldn't repair and offered to swap out my phone for $350. I didn't accept the offer and had my phone repaired for $50 elsewhere. Today I was at the gym and this customer from the Apple store recognizes me. Guess what, he had iPhone repair issues, they couldn't fix his phone and they offered to swap his phone for guess how much $350. I suggest you find an Apple certified repair shop to have your phone repair or others here have suggested going to the Old Orchard store. This store has only 3 stars on yelp. read more

I'll preface this review with the fact that Covid is obviously effecting the entire planet so I'm sympathetic to the fact that this store may've been short staffed because of that. Rather than tell all aspects step by step of our frustration I'll just say that we were sharing 1 'genius' or setup expert and after over an hour we left frustrated when the person told us that 'we don't have the infrastructure to finish getting your SIM card setup and your phone activated.' then he said we should go across the street to Verizon to do so. So IMO why did they entice me on their site when buying the phone that they could assist in the setup. We drove from the suburbs to this place and if I'd known it was even a possibility we'd leave with it non activated I wouldn't have come in. Verizon on the other hand was quick, professional and it was done once we got to a person for help. I love, and have always loved Apple products, but this was a crap show of being handed off from one person to the next, only for disappointing service. (From a trillion dollar global brand.) I attempted to get 2 Apple products repaired today. After 2 hours I left with both products in the same condition as they were when I arrived. Waste of a day. The person helping me had a terrible attitude which was reported to the "manager". He claims to have taken note of our feedback. The female helping me passed me along to another tech. No one came back to check and make sure my iPad mini was actually working so I eventually left after being there for 2 hours. When I got home, I discovered the issue had not been resolved. The iPad keeps shutting down for unknown reasons. When I have another 2 hours to waste I guess I'll try again. Or maybe I'll go to a different location because this one sucks. read more

I had a wonderful experience today. Due to some confusion over my phone (which I had purchased from a friend) I ending up being in the store for a little under three hours. Throughout the entire time, I was well taken care of by several staff members (who's names I no longer remember). They provided me updates on what was happening and were extremely attentive. I always felt I was in good hands even if the situation was crazy! Due to the length of time I was in the store, they made my entire order free. Greeter was quite abrasive. I told him i was trying to replace a broken PC and he said "Look at the sign outside, we don't fix PCs here". I told him he was losing the opportunity to convert a PC user. The woman who helped me seemed more willing to take my $2K, and tried to get me a discount (unfortunately my employer is PC only). I found the customer service extremely poor. I came in need of repair and was told by the hostess that there was no help they could provide, that I would need to call Apple support and that the problem could take weeks to fully resolve (this was not accurate). I asked to speak with a supervisor and she informed me that a supervisor would only tell me the same thing (this was also not accurate). The problem was eventually resolved and some staff were helpful but overall the store feels disorganized and hectic. I felt they wanted to rush me out as quickly as possible. If I were making a small purchase I would come back here but for any service that requires actual support, patience and product knowledge, I would go to another location. read more

I have been in Apple stores, all over the country for support issues on Laptops, phones etc. This particular Apple Store continues to be worst experience of any Apple Store. The Management is difficult and inflexible. The location is fantastic, with ez nearby parking options, but unlike the Michigan Ave store, where they bend over backwards to work out a decent solution for you, their attitude is that they are doing you a favor, and you shopuld be grateful. Is there a reason you have to wait 25 minutes for a simple pick-up ? Repairs at Michigan ave are often ready earlier than they promised, maybe they are better staffed? The Michigan Ave Apple store is far Superior for Genuis Bars, and repairs. Do yourself a favor and make the extra effort to gewt downtown, its worth it ! read more

I went in to the store on Monday. I had a scheduled time of 6:45pm and told Eric at check-in that my phone didn't work (meaning they could not call or text or anything me) and asked best way to go about it. He told me to come back about 30 mins before. I came back about an hour before and sat for the hour to wait. Then at 6:45 I went up to check on my time and was told they were coming to help me. 30 minutes later I went to go check in and the lady now standing at the checkin said my time was actually 7:10pm . However, I saw on the iPad screen when Eric checked me in, that it said 6:45pm, so no my time was not 7:10pm. I also mentioned to her I had also told him my phone didn't work and it looks like you guys just pushed me back because they could not get a hold of me by my phone that did not work. :Shrugs: Figures! Then after scoffing, not saying anything. I just sighed, since I had now been there 2 hours. They sent someone over. I was honest: it was water damage from a great time at Lollapalooza. I just wanted to see if I could pull the data and if it was able to work to do that. He just pulled out the sim and said everything was done for and that I would not be able to. He said that t was all corroded and everything was gone due to the water damage. He said you might be able to pay $200-300 for an extraction of data, but that is it. I said cool and went on to be sad. The main reason I need my data is because my father just passed away and I need pictures, texts (not iMessage texts), and other things. However, today, I went and just decided to try plugging it into my cord and letting it sit on the computer. It worked. My phone now registers on my computer and iCloud, but still won't turn on. Funny, I thought at least the Apple Store would have tried plugging it in to see if it would work. What's the point in trusting the store or the "Geniuses" there. Not going back to the store and definitely not seeking their help ever. I will admit 3 of the 5-7 people who I talked to were cool, but not the best service and attention to detail.....i.e. MY PHONE DOES NOT WORK SO I SAT FOR AN HOUR AND WAITED SINCE YOU COULD NOT CALL ME! This review isn't necessarily of this particular store, but, rather, of one of its best and brightest employees. The service that I received today was beyond compare; it was so good that I felt compelled to sit down and write this review before moving on to other things tonight. I'll keep this short, as I know all of you are busy. All I've gotta say is that Sergio, one of the Genius Technicians--and yes, he lives up to Apple's elite moniker--is as good as they get. I've spent time in Apple stores all over the place--NYC, DFW, and SF--and this was the best experiences I've ever had with a Genius. I came in with my new (to me, as I had bought it used on eBay) laptop that was presenting a display and sound issue. Sergio was friendly, knowledgeable, and very understanding of my concerns. He ran a full battery of tests and came to the same conclusion as I had--dead pixels and a busted speaker. But not only that, but he noticed a few other defects the rather unscrupulous eBay seller had failed to mention in their original listing. He spent over an hour going over everything with me; he was incredibly thorough and exacting and--this was perhaps one of the most refreshing aspects of the whole experience--I got the impression that he really cared. You know? So many folks just go through the motions, but Sergio was present, he was acutely aware of details, and he just simply really cared; he cared about my laptop's problems; he cared about performing a thorough diagnosis; he cared about helping me. And that, folks, he did--and he did it with great aplomb. He was a tremendous help and a true expert in his field. I highly recommend him. read more

Terrible experience. Went to demo the Devialet Phantom Gold speakers (apple stores are one of the few places that have them). They're $3,000 each. Reading online, I was very interested in purchasing a pair and naturally wanted to hear them before making a final decision. Three employees tried to help, get it to play music...none could make it work. So I asked them if there was anyone here who could help with the demo? One of the three employees, says..."Yeah well...honestly I don't want to turn it on because it will be really loud". I look at my wife stunned and just walked out. read more

I have had a mac book for about 5 years. I've always told my best pal to get one for years. So he is finally interested in on getting a mac book. So we go to the newest location on North Ave. This is way easier to get to if you don't live downtown plus its right down the street from us. I only just enough to get him interested. When we got in we were greeted politely right away. It was one huge room with everything in sight. This made it easier to find everything. My best friend had a few questions and the guy that helped us had a great answer for each one. Everything was holds on. All the products are very user friendly! So, I don't get the whole "Apple Craze", but I do like a few products. I've been coming to this location since the opening. I was in line in the ridiculous line, in the rain, waiting with a friend who is a HUGE Apple person. Since then, I've been back a few times. But each time has gotten progressively worst. I remember my first time in for something needing looked at was for my laptop. I came in to the genius counter. They took great care of me and my computer. I worked with a guy with a giant crazy long beard. He really seemed to know his stuff and was super nice. I think his name was Jim or John. He fixed the problems and I was out in no time. He was great even when I wasn't so happy from my problems and lack of time to be there. (the wait is always a problem here). Since then, I went back and always asked to work with him if possible and did except once with a tall slender fellow I think named Dave or Dan. They both were great (and had no tattoos! How did they get a job there!?) Problem is, since I've been going back and having my phone fixed (3 times now! and still not right! and laptop again 2times) I haven't seen either one of them around. I asked a few people with the blue shirts in the front and they looked at me like I was lost and tried to sell me an ipad. All I want is to work with one of those two genius. They got me a manager and she told me that they no longer work there. I said that's too bad, because they were the reason I came to this Apple store. I have not been back since. I work downtown and the store on the mag mile isn't too bad. I've made new genius friends there like Mark and Kate. I just hope they stay! read more

Exceptional customer service!! I'm very technologically challenged & Jackie could not have been more helpful getting my new IPhone up & operational 2 weeks ago. I'd received it as a gift so Jackie was in my view pretty much a volunteer vs working for a commission. Again I'm so thankful that she patiently transferred my info from my dying mobile phone - she could not have been more considerate & efficient! Shout out to Kat! I bought a defective Belkin screen protector when I bought my iPhone X. Belkin replaced it with another defective protector; apparently they are all defective. Kat went above and beyond to not only return my defective protector, but replace it with a different one that has been receiving great reviews! Not only did she do that, but she put it on for me TWICE as the first one didn't go on perfectly. She was patient and pleasant, and didn't make me feel like an inconvenience. read more

I will avoid this store specifically. But this encounter embodies why I try to avoid Apple Stores altogether. The manager Don El Etr is a pompous jackass and would be fired immediately if he worked for me. His main job is customer service and he flat out sucks at it. Recently my phone had issues where it could not find a signal. I started at AT&T and the replaced the SIM and did a few other things before deciding the had no clue. I went to the Genius Bar here spent 5 minutes with a tech who told me a minuscule bend caused the antenna to break and directed me to but a new phone which I did. After chatting with my tech guy at work he mentioned uBreakiFix. They were able to solve my problem in 30 seconds and I was on my way, no charge. Since there was no need for a new phone I took my new 7 back and wanted to chat up the management at this store to make them aware of what happened. As a whole they really didn't seem to care about my story. Even worse they couldn't find my transaction. After about 30 years of waiting around 3 managers including my new friend Don come up and explain the transaction didn't go through and I could either give them the phone or repurchase it. Don tried to take charge of the conversation, my assumption was he was the senior of the three but I now think it was because the mistake was on his shoulders. Either way, I didn't care about the phone as mine now worked and wanted to direct the conversation to the run around that his Genius Bar should have easily corrected in the first place. He asked me what they did to fix it and said "what do you want me to do about it?" Short of an apology, which I never got, he said there is nothing I can do for you. With his cockiness in the conversation I then decided to bring it full circle to the phone I was now returning it and saving them the hassle of it being "missing" from their inventory. To that his response was "we would have just wrote it off anyways." He then went on to say "he cared more than I did because he left me a voicemail letting me know about the phone issue." I listened to it at the time but it was very innocuous and stated my phone may not work or have issues so I should bring it in. Had he said the transaction didn't stick and he needed me to come in a repurchase it, I probably would have. But having a new working phone I didn't see an imperative need. After a few more cocky responses and some choice words that all could hear I walked out as to not make a bigger scene and get myself in trouble. In the end I have my old phone working and apple got theirs back. In the long run they lost a customer to this store and I will do everything to make sure Don's managers and Apple are aware of his ineptitude. I would recommend stopping in a local repair shop before purchasing new when recommended at the Genius Bar and would avoid this store, especially Don at all costs. read more

Lala at this location is amazing. I had MAJOR Verizon issues. I was at this location twice in one day. Verizon kept giving us the run around on reasons they couldn't process my purchase. Lala assisted me both times I was there and was so patient. We each were on hold with different Verizon reps at the same time. She even stayed after her shift ended to ensure I had all of my issues solved. I was having a rough day and she was a positive light in a bummer day. Great customer service. read more

My laptop stopped responding. Made an appointment at this store. Was given an appointment time. I turned up 40 minutes early, granted. I was told I could only be seen at my normal time but that someone would be over to take notes shortly.... an hour later, no one had acknowledged or spoken to me. No notes, no apology. *I* had to get up and ask and was treated as though I was an annoyance. Meanwhile, 5 Apple employees doing nothing sat giggling behind me, looking out the window at lightning. I was finally seen 20 minutes late. I was told there was no point fixing my computer and it was best to get a new one. I asked how much it would cost to fix it. $90 total. So price of a new computer compared to $90.... I took the fix! I was told 3 - 5 days and to be fair, it was only 2 days till I got a call. But I was VERY surprised at the poor standards of bearded hipsters standing around not helping, instead of Apple's usual high quality above-and-beyond standards. Disappointed, and if that is the level of care, I am sad to say I will consider other companies when buying a new computer.. read more

I made an appointment for the Genius Bar online and was seen 15 mins after my appointment time..not terrible as they were busy however no apology or acknowledgment for the late start. My appointment was for my iPad that suddenly shut off and would no longer power on. The Apple employee helping me, Natalie, tried charging the iPad (I'd obviously tried this at home) and after no luck simply said she didn't know what was wrong with it and that i could either pay $200 for the same iPad or, her suggestion, pay $300 for the new edition. I found it ridiculous how quickly her resolution was for me to pay $200-$300 for the basically same device that I was just given and "I don't know" for why it had broke. When I told her I'd read online that this has happened to many people with this device she was clearly irritated and told me to be skeptical of what I read online. So if I'm to be skeptical of what I read online - where do I get the answers for why my device suddenly broke. She was unhelpful and seemed to have little knowledge of the product. I wish I had dropped and shattered my iPad because then I would have more resolution than what I received today from Apple and Natalie. Very disappointing how a lightly used, great condition iPad can unknowingly break one day and Apple's resolution is to pay more money for the newer edition that could seemingly have the same problem in a year. To clarify: My 1yr warranty had just ended. It was also recommended to me to buy extended warranty with purchase of a new iPad (because their products break and they "don't know why"). I will be selling the broken iPad to someone for parts and purchasing a Kindle. read more

You should expect nothing but the best from Apple. First off, the North/Clybourn Red Line El station renovation is a blessing. It's no longer a dilapidated building. Yipee! Plus, now there's what I deem as the "Apple Plaza" that connects the N&C El Station & the Apple Store with a small fountain in the middle and FREE WIFI! The structure of the store is awesome being made of a boxy steel arch and a glass facade and back. The employees, as with any new store, were very helpful and outgoing. Service during my visit to the Genius Bar was without a wait. My iPhone continued to mistype when used, which got annoying real fast (especially when typing out draft Yelp reviews). The Genius Louis helped me out by explaining the issue with my phone and just simply replacing it. Score! A huge plus were the humongous umbrellas being handed out while waiting in line in order to stay dry, in addition to the free Apple shirt for the first 4,000 visitors (yay for all different sizes too)! This is a genius bar review. In general, I love Apple Products and think their support (especially over the phone) is amazing, but this store really gives the company a bad name--If I had come here when shopping for my first computer, I probably never would have purchased. At this point I've had two experiences with the genius bar that disturbed me: Experience 1: (I have apple care), last year a small amount of water got into my macbook (left the window open, with the laptop on my bed). I bought it in, not expecting it to be covered. The genius behind the bar said he would make an exception, but was very condescending...and kind of mean. asking me "why would you even have anything liquid by your computer?!" (and he literally waited for an answer before processing my repair!), of course I wanted to say "eff you" but if he did not make an exception I would have had to pay $700 for the repair, so I told him the truth. He shook his head in disgust and then asked if I had anything backed up. I didn't. He then said that he would only make the exception if I purchased an $100 back up system. I have never backed anything up in my life and did not want to purchase the system, but I didn't feel like I was in a position to argue (as $100 is still a very small portion of what I would have had to pay if he wasn't letting me "off easy"). I paid it, even though I felt he was acting like a complete jerk and got ready to go. On my way out he recommended that I keep my windows closed from now on (for the record he did not say this with a chuckle, he was quite serious). Experience 2: Everyone I know who has an apple computer has had the experience when the cord starts to fray and the rubber pulls back. My apple care is about to expire in a few months, so I wanted to go in and exchange the cord. The genius behind the bar spent 10 minutes explaining to me that they would not replace my cord under applecare because it "must have" frayed because of something "wrong" i'd done. I asked him "like what?" and he had no answer. I explained to him that everyone I knew had had similar problems with the cord so it must be a poorly designed product in that regard (no fault of my own) and should be replaced. No dice. jerk, jerk, jerk, jerk. I went home with my broken cord feeling, again, incredibly insulted. My advice to folks wanting support with apple products is to go to the store on Michigan...they are just nicer. read more

Service needs improved in this store. I waited until 2:37pm for my 2:00pm appointment. I was told only after inquiring that they've been running behind. I get the same excuse every time I visit this store. After a few visits I'm left feeling as if my time is not respected. This store continues to be an unpleasant experience for me. This one is a thumbs down. read more

He's nice, doesn't try to sell you (if anything tries to help you save money while making sure you get what you need), he knows the products inside and out literally, and is super personable. He helped my recycle my old MacBook Pro and get a $183 store credit and learn about new models I can purchase. Super helpful, kind, and knowledgeable! read more

The first and last bad experience in an apple store. I will never go here again. The staff is not friendly or to Apple standards. Never experienced this in any other apple store. Lazy, Socializing associates. Recommend going anywhere else ! read more
