There are many gas bays that are tall enough for RVs with plenty of pumps to get you in and out quick. Regular fuel was about the same as in my town which was pretty good for just off the highway. The convenience store is large with lots of food and snacks. Prices are typical C-store so a bit more than a grocery store but I never seem to plan ahead for snacks. The store and grounds were very clean and free of debris. The service was acceptable-not overly friendly just kind of ignored me as she rang me up. It's a great place to stop when heading that way. I recommend it and would go again.

It's never easy finding a pace to stop on a road trip, but this place has it all. Plenty of gas pumps, a little dog park area, the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a gas station, an incredible selection of healthy, salty, sweet, indulgent treats/snacks/food/drinks, and a safe and comfortable place for our whole family to get out of the car and stretch our legs. Shelees is easy to get to right off the freeway, can be a long or quick stop depending on your needs and then you're all filled up, refreshed and ready to hit the road again. We will be frequent visitors on our Cali road trips from now on.

If you're going east, don't make a right out of Shelee's because Google maps will have you take the 10 west and flip you back around. Now that we know that, we'll probably stop by this exit again during our road trips out of CA. The facilities are really clean and they have a gourmet coffee shop inside. I loved my mocha latte!

Located on the corner of Highway 86 and S Marina Drive, this travel plaza seems to provide everything that a traveler might need -- fuel and diesel Chevron), tons of food choices and ample dining tables (Pizza Hut, Subway, Cinnabon, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Yogurtland, Jack in the Box, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Imperial County, and Salton 350 Bar), clean restrooms, a general store with travel necessities, and more. What was particularly interesting about this travel stop was seeing the local culture of the large number of ATVers. Virtually every second truck had an off-highway vehicle (OHV) in its bed or on its trailer. Not being local, we're not sure where they were going to ride, but we speculated that a significant number were headed to the Imperial Sand Dunes. These dunes, in southeastern California, stretch over 40 miles long and average 5 miles wide, and are a popular recreation site. While the travel plaza was easy to access, and had everything that you might need, we've rated it as a 4 rather than 5 because of the chaos of the plaza. All of the gas bays were occupied, with all sorts of vehicles vying for a place -- from motorcycles to OHVs to cars to tanker trucks to 18-wheeler. We chose to park "next door" because of the chaos in front of the travel plaza. It also made it easier to re-enter the highway.

This is not a convenience if you have to pump your gas then go inside to wait in line for a receipt. My business spends hundreds of dollars in fuel on a weekly basis. This will be the last time I buy fuel from Tower. I want to pump my gas take my receipt and move on. I do not want to have to go inside to collect it. Either the employees and managers are to lazy to keep paper in the pumps or they are hoping your trip into the store will cause you to buy something.

I told the guys in the store that I had just broken down. They seemed disinterested which was fine because i didn't need help. Later I went I to Juan's auto parts to purchase the replacement belt and the guys working there were super friendly and helpful . I left thinking about what a big difference good customer service makes. I'm in that area frequently and will definitely visit Juan's Auto Parts if I ever needed anything again. During a family trip to the Salton Sea today, one of my brake caliper bolts came loose and fell…read moreout. We were on the 86, in the middle of nowhere, when it happened. The noise was quite frightening, sounding like the wheel was about to brake off. We pulled over, removed the wheel and discovered the caliper only had one bolt so the caliper wouldn't stay inplace. I tightened the one bolt,then drove 9 miles, real slow, to Juans Auto Parts. Both Chris and Issac were supper helpful. They found the proper size bolt for my caliper, let me borrow a socket and gloves, even gave me a bottle of water. I had the car back up and running in no time. Thanks Chris and Issac, you guys are a great staff for Juan's!
