So I have stayed at a lot of hotels in my life... We are a military family and we have been in all sorts of places and slept and many different types of hotels... This time I traveled to Spokane to attend my nieces, baby shower and I grabbed a room at apple tree based on location and not much else. This was absolutely awful... The room smelled terrible - dirty, not just like smoke or anything - and the bed was so uncomfortable. I prepaid for my stay so there was not a lot that I could do and I couldn't afford another room on top of that, so I went ahead with it... When I woke up, I tried to take a shower, but there were marks and spots and stains all over the towel so I ended up just letting my body air dry and using the blow dryer. The location is great because it's right by a grocery store and near transit, but other than that, it has no redeeming qualities other than being cheap. read more

There are better cheap hotels on the North Side. I grew up in this neighborhood and have lived just around the corner from this place as an adult. It's always been a scuzzy eyesore in the neighborhood, but I'd never stayed the night there before. The rooms are run down and dirty with cords hanging out of the wall sockets, but all of that is expected for the price. The real reason not to visit here is the management. I was a few minutes late checking out of the room -- as someone who frequently travels and is in hotels often, this is usually not a big deal. The office manager called the room to yell at me and told me he would charge a fee. I said that was fine, I was willing to pay a fee to have a little extra time to check out, but he said he would charge a fee and then call the police immediately after. I cleared out fast and asked him for a number for his supervisor to report him for his absolutely rude behavior, and he refused to give said number, said it was "impossible" to contact the owner, and called police to try to have me escorted off the property without returning my deposit. The officer onsite sort of rolled his eyes and didn't comply, as if this were a frequent thing that happens here -- both police being called and hotel management attempting to do unethical things. I dunno the manager's name, but I would not allow that person in any sort of a public-facing role in a business. He is an idiot and a jerk. read more

Excellent value. It's not directly on a main street, so it's in a good quiet location for a hotel. Central to several stores and restaurants. Sufficiently cleaned. Staff is friendly and offers a quick snack for breakfast. Highly recommend! read more

After we left this hotel, we noticed our kids getting itchy. After we stopped at a rest stop, we saw that their arms and legs were covered in flea bites. The reason we know these are flea bites is because my son has the same allergic reaction when this happened to him before. After we asked my son about the bite marks, he said he had woken up at one in the morning, feeling a bug jumping on him, but didn't think to tell us (ASD at it's best). Despite our attempts at calling them, they never made attempts to contact us back. We have reported them to the health department in Washington state because this is unacceptable. Please avoid this hotel at all costs. The breakfast is a "to-go" breakfast that includes granola bars and oatmeal packets that you have to take back to your room to heat/make. I'm so glad it was a short stay. read more

I booked my room to Hotwire and stayed one night at the Apple Tree Inn in Spokane. I was recovering from a biopsy and was too tired to worry about the back. The TV was very small and not in front of my bed. I was too tired to watch TV anyway all I wanted to do was get some sleep take a shower in the morning and head out. . I woke up to take my shower. There was no shower curtain. I could not believe it. I took photos to show management. The condition of the hotel was very antiquated, the continental breakfast consisted of a cup of coffee and a granola bar. Also not particularly impressed.. Do not stay at this hotel, if you do, you will not be happy with it. For $113 I would expect at least a shower curtain. read more

I would rant about this on [travel website] but this hotel said we would be "blacklisted for life." Just one of the threats they made when I tried to cancel the second night of our prepaid stay. I booked a nonsmoking room with two beds for two nights. There was no way to inform them that our dog was going to be there, though they advertise pet-friendliness and charge for the privilege. They had a smoking room for me at check-in, which wasn't going to work for us. They had no king bed available, so we ended up in a room with one queen bed and a rollaway. I asked if we could cancel at that point, and was told that we would be charged for the first night. Since we can't afford to throw away a hundred (plus) bucks, we gritted our teeth and said we would stay. The room was dirty and decrepit (towel racks hanging dirty off the wall) and the cadet heater and air conditioner were passive-aggressively battling it out when we got there. The bed and the rollaway were both more like hammocks than beds. The rollaway had burn holes in all its linens. Nothing smelled clean. Our dog was on guard all night long, which is unlike him. Nobody in the room got much sleep. The one good thing about the place: the pillows were not terrible. In the morning my husband checked out the minimal breakfast (nothing made without gluten) and a cup of abominable coffee I threw out after one sip. I POLITELY told the front desk that our plans had changed and that we would be checking out. The clerk consulted her notes and said, "Uh-uh, you won't be getting a refund for the second night." I was taken aback and asked to clarify that we would lose TWO nights' rate on the place even if we left, which she verified. Then I said, "That's okay, I'll just get it back from [credit card company]." That is when she told me I would be "blacklisted for life" from the property if I disputed the charge. I told her, "That's okay, I am NEVER coming back here." Then she said I would be likewise blacklisted ("for life") from [travel website they use for booking]. I said, "Oh NO! That's TERRIBLE! Goodbye." Got a little (more) surreal here. She said, "Well, I was GOING to SAY something." I turned back from the door and asked what she had to say. "I was GOING to ask for your CARD so I can refund the pet charge." So I (warily, I admit) handed over the credit card and got it back with a credit slip for the thirty-some bucks. Then I sincerely thanked her and went to leave. She snarled, "Well, enjoy your LIFE," and at that point I admit I told her to F off and walked out. The whole place to me is a sin against hospitality, and I am a retired hotel chef and manager. Stay FAR away. They're nasty and the place looks like it hasn't been updated since the World's Fair they probably built it for. So I got my refund in twelve hours from the credit card company, and OH NOES I am blacklisted. For life! read more

DO NOT Stay here! It has gone seriously downhill. After getting our key, we decided it wasn't safe (based on the clientele and the cars already parked) and a peek into the uncleaned room showing that it wasn't clean or habitable. they said it would be done in 10 minutes. There is NO WAY that suite was going to get cleaned in 10 minutes. As a group of women and children, we just couldn't stomach it. SCARY!! We had to stay elsewhere for a lot more money, and they can't be reached to discuss a refund the very nice desk person told us would happen by the manager the next day. Multiple calls to the office. They don't answer. We are still waiting to hear from the manager. One email has been shut down and the BBB indicates they are NOT an accredited location. What did I like? - The room was clean and big. - Everything worked. - They have a pool and even opened it a little early so I could swim in the morning. The only positive thing I'll say is, after a thorough search, there appeared to be no bedbugs. But my lord, it was literally the grossest place I have ever stayed. I stayed here for two nights and I think it was a pretty good value for the money. It was so clean that I decided to stay for another night, I mean, literally immaculate, and I'm pretty picky : ) I would stay there again. I lucked out because I think I got a good room - there were literally no bad smells and the room was well-equipped with a new microwave, and mini-fridge. Also, the TV was new. It's a great value for the $. I only subtracted one star b/c the first morning, I believe it was the 28th of June, some people walked in and helped themselves to the continental breakfast, but I don't think they were guests who were staying at the hotel. I mean, they were dressed decently and didn't smell or anything, but I could tell they were free loading. If not for this experiance i can see 3stars but BUG ALERT, I got woke up at 1 am with neighbors in a fight outside my room 103. It's a Corner Room that you get noise from three sides, But as I lay there with my eyes open and after calling the front desk I can feel like there was something walking in my scalp and like there was something on my eyebrows and mustache. I immediately got up and took a very hot shower which helped but my scalp really itched like I had some kind of bite. Since I didn't feel any bites on my body I thought maybe it was the pillows so I strip the pillows off the bed figured it was in my pillows not in the bed laid back down with a shirt wadded up under my head but in about an hour later I was up taking another shower since I only had to drive to Seattle to be home I checked out of the room and left scratching my head not from being stupid scratching my head because of those damn little bugs. Reading post from over a year ago this was a problem with they were having at this hotel so it's not their first bug rodeo. Yes I could have asked for another room but in an hour and a half I was going to be up anyway so I just checked out and I promise I will not ever be checking back in. read more

We come to Spokane often to visit family and we've stayed in a lot of places. We usually stay at nicer hotels, but this trip was spanning 4 nights and we wanted to see if we could spend less on lodging. We got their largest room which was two bedrooms, one with a queen, one with two twins and another queen in the main room, along with a kitchen. It was quite spacious for our family of 6. It was a very hot evening when we arrived (around 8:30pm and still 90+ degrees) and I was immediately disheartened to walk into the room and find it incredibly hot though the AC was running full bore. This is because this room has the worst AC set up ever. It blows into the kitchen, which is almost completely closed off from the rest of area. It was frigid, maybe 65 degrees, in the kitchen and at least 20 degrees hotter everywhere else. Absolutely no cool air reached the other parts of the room. Being exhausted from the trip and unable to comprehend reloading our 4 small and stressed out children back into the car to try and find a new hotel, I nearly broke into tears at the thought of trying to sleep in this wretchedly hot room. I'm a Seattle native. We don't do hot well. We called the front desk and they gave us two very dirty box fans (to their credit, everything else was very clean). We ran one fan in the kitchen blowing out to the main room and stuffed all the children into one room and put a fan in there. That helped, and we kept those fans running 24/7 to keep the temps manageable as it was hot the entire time we were there. My other peeve was that the supplies in the kitchen are extremely limited. Like two pots. No cookie sheets or baking pans, no potholders for removing things from the oven. No coffee maker or toaster. There is a full size fridge with freezer, microwave, and oven. We had brought things for breakfast and coffee to drink there, but were unable to use it because of the lack of basics. We always stay at hotels with kitchens and they've always at least had a coffee maker and something you could cook bagels with. Positives were that the staff was responsive and helpful. The place was pretty quiet despite appearing quite full. The pool was clean. The rooms were clean and no bugs. They cleaned the rooms promptly every day. A grocery store, natural foods store, and drive-through Starbucks are directly across the street. Plenty of places to eat and shop all around. It does take FOREVER to get back to the freeway, so be warned. A better rating would probably be 2.5 stars because its not all bad, but alas, Yelp does not let us do halves :) We *might* stay here again, but only in a different room and if have the space in the car to pack additional items like a coffeemaker for our stay. read more

We got here at about 2 am, and I admit I was a little scared ( I think I was just deliriously tired) at first. Everything was fine, the room was clean, there were no unwelcome strangers with extra legs in our bed and I slept like a polled ox, so did my husband. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. It was very inexpensive, but a bit out of the way,but we were running into that damn "no vacancy" thing again, so this was a great find!! I pre-paid a night on my Expedia account at the Spokane Apple Tree Inn for my kid for today; she had last minute car trouble and couldn't get there. She called them yesterday to explain, and they said that if she called Expedia, that she could reschedule or cancel her reservation. I called Expedia, who tried hard to get exactly that done, but Aaron and his manager REFUSED to reschedule or refund at all. They have several open rooms tonight, so they have stolen my kid's money, and my Expedia rebate. So a word to other travelers - these are some really crummy people whom you should avoid. A fantastic hotel for the price. My gf and I are from Seattle and needed a place to just lay out heads down for the night. We checked in at night to a friendly staff and found the room to be clean and tidy with fully working ammenities. Where to start . . . I booked for a five night stay & received a weekly rate so I saved a few dollars. The room was WEARY and looked as if it has not been vacuumed for weeks, it also smelled like someone sprayed something trying to cover up cigarettes or other odors, so I opened the window to let the place air out and kept it open because when I would close it the room would smell funky. There were stains on the carpet stains on the linoleum and it didn't look like anyone had ever made an attempt to clean these up, holes in the draperies as well as stains. I brought my own pillow thank goodness and, had I known their sheets were parchment paper thin I would have brought my own sheets as well . . . actually I would not have stayed here. I was going on good reviews and once I checked into the hotel I was wondering if these reviewers had only ever been camping because this place REALLY needs an upgrade. I called the The front desk to complain about the two chairs in the room next to a table both of them were badly stained so I put a towel down on the one before I would even sit down on it. The second day they did replace the chairs which was a plus. Bottom line I would bring my own pillows I would bring my own bedding and maybe borrow a vacuum and bring a can of Lysol - this place just barely passes for comfortable IF you're in a pinch. Our basic needs of bed, clean linens, met. I had prepaid reservations for two nights, July 21/23, 2017. Returned at 3 pm on July 22 and neither electronic key worked. Was an annoyance but figured their system shut off all keys across board at check out time. Since staying an additional night, just went to office to get activated key. Check out time is 11 am. At 9 a.m. on July 23, took first load to car and returned to room to find both keys again deactivated. While cheap, the breakfast bar is fruit, yogurt, cold cereal and juice. Hot is toast and bagels. Rooms are clean but in need of minor repairs like paint and calking. The main issue is the smell. The non smoking rooms smell slightly of smoke, or that stale ashtray smell. The beds are normal height which is great. Then it occured to me why the rooms smelled slightly of smoke. I think they dont seperate the laundry! They have a seperate smoking building which is good, but if they wash all the laundry together, all the bedding would smell slightly of smoke. Adding borax or baking soda would help as would a seperate washer and dryer for the bedding from that building as well as not storing bedding from the smoking building with bedding from non smoking sections. Then too, there are smokers who still smoke outside, but fail to realize that their clothes, hair etc reek of smoke. That smell can transfer to bedding etc. Overall, an adequate place to stay on a budget. If smells bother you, buy a bottle of fabreeze or a gel air freshener. The only reason we booked this was because Spokane is booked to the gills for a convention. Managed to find a vrbo for twice the price downtown Spokane. We used to stay here a lot. It was always quiet. The past two times we stayed we ended up all getting bites from what we found out to be bed bugs. We even found a couple of them and brought them down to the office. They said they would take care of it. Well the last time they tried backtracking saying they don't have bugs, because they just got sprayed. We again showed them bugs, they again made notes and we left. We decided we would try one last time. And what happens? Their MANAGEMENT decides we are no longer allowed to stay there because we make complaints too much....are you Effing serious? What a joke. This place is awesome for a family. My 5 yr old had a room, my 2 yr old had a room, and we slept on a bed in the living room. It was killer keeping them on a schedule. The first night a horrible smell crept up from downstairs but other than that no issues. Hotel staff... Very helpful!! Bring a baking sheet and coffee machine if you want that in the room. They have coffee downstairs. Don't turn fridge to 8... It will freeze everything. I highly recommend if you aren't about bells and whistles but need a good safe place for family to stay. We had a terrible experience with this hotel, and were forced to endure one night because everything else in the city was booked. Expedia booked the four adults in our party in two smoking rooms, even though this was not made at all clear on the website. Neither the owner nor the employee would do anything more for us than to NOT charge the $10 surcharge for the roll-out beds we had to wheel into the less smoke-filled room. While that room was uncomfortably smokey, the other was literally uninhabitable it was so disgusting. Also, the "wifi" advertised meant that we had to stand in the parking lot in the middle of winter to actually get the signal to work. "Continental breakfast" was fruit and packaged pastries with no hot food. Needless to say, we called Expedia and had them rebook us elsewhere for the next night. We went with this place because of price but we will not be back. The room was a good size but smelled pretty strong of chemicals upon opening the door. The bathroom was up to date and in fact was the best part of the room. The bed was very small, hard, and the bedding was old and thin. The a/c worked well. This used o be a nice place to stay at a reasonable price for a clean, well maintained room. Back then I would have given it 4 stars. That was 10 years ago. As time had gone by and I have stayed here every couple of years or so, the maintenance has gone down hill and the prices have gone up. Not by a lot but more than they should have for the current room quality. There is an odd soapy smell to the room, the tub and sink have chips and cracks, the minifridge is super noisy, the curtains and carpets are stained and have bleach marks, the exterior paint is cracking and peeling. There's more but you get the idea. On the plus side they have a basic continental breakfast (with watery coffee) and they allow pets. read more
