I waited and waited then left. I made a genius bar appointment assuming incorrectly that an appointment would mean anything. I checked in and was asked to wait a the square tables. I waited 15 minutes and no one even acknowledged I was there. If a business requires and appointment, then the least they could so is only schedule as many appointments as they can handle. This was an obvious ploy by Apple to get people in the store to "browse" while they wait. I did not have the interest or the time to for that nonsense. I brought my iPhone7P in for repair at the Apple Twenty Ninth Street retail store (1755 29th St, Boulder, CO 80301) on 8/21/2018. The phone is still covered under the warranty period. The phone was left overnight with the store associate for repair. The store associate claims there is internal water damage to the phone as there is corrosion on some components in the internal area of the phone discovered after the store repair person opened the phone. The store associate acknowledge that the external LCI (Liquid Contact Indicator) was NOT triggered indicating it has not been in contact with water. In addition, the phone specification claims a water resistant rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. The phone has NOT been in contact with water. I think after buying so many iPhones for my family and me over the years, it's time to move on to a Android since Apple won't honor their warranty. :( read more

I was having trouble logging into my MacBook Pro so I set up an appointment at the Genius Bar see if they could help. After taking it into the back room to run some diagnostic tests, they quickly determined that I needed a new Logicboard for my "antique" (5 y/o) laptop, and referred me to the MacShack for repairs. Long story short.. it was cheaper to by a new Mackbook Air, than install a new logic board, so I bought a new laptop... Fast forward... After dropping off both (new & old) laptops at the MacShack to have the data transferred, the folks at the MacShack informed me I received a poor diagnosis & the old computer only needed a quick fix. The only reason for two stars is they (Apple) returned the new MacBook Air without any fuss. If you have trouble with your Apple product, spare yourself the hassle & waste of time and give the folks at the MacShack a visit first! read more

A Tale of Two Repair Experiences I'll start with Boulder Mac Repair. These guys are a class act, always helpful with fast, courteous, and friendly service without an attitude. I took my iPod Touch (5th Generation) which is still under warranty to the Apple Store in Boulder. More about that later. After a very disappointing experience at the Apple Store, I visited the guys at Boulder Mac Repair. The problem I had was that the tip of my Apple earbuds plug had broken off inside the iPod's earphone jack. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and I explained my problem. One of the gentleman took the iPod to the back, and using tweezers or needle-nose pliers pulled the tip out. I asked him what I owed him, and he said "nothing." I was in and out in five minutes. An hour earlier I had visited the Apple Store on 29th Street. Luckily I had made an appointment online ahead of time since the customers who visited the store without an appointment were told they'd have to wait two to three hours. (This was on a Tuesday afternoon.) I waited in line to sign in with the iPad guy, and was directed to sit at a specific stool. I waited about twenty minutes, ten minutes past my appointment time. Even though I had entered my serial number into the online service request form, when my "genius" visited he had to enter it again. After finding that the iPod was still under warranty, he took a look at it and saw that there was something in the earphone jack. This was blamed on me. The fact that the earbuds were an Apple product, and that the tip broke off inside another Apple product did not matter. He asked me how I plugged and unplugged the earbuds. I told him that it's not exactly rocket science to plug and unplug the earbuds. (I didn't use language quite this sarcastic.) He said I could talk to a a manager. The manager came over and her story was the same...it was my fault that the tip had broken off, and furthermore, she said, "this happens very rarely." I commented that even though it might be a rare occurrence, that shouldn't mean it's not covered under warranty. I expressed my disappointment in Apple's warranty service. (I have had a prior problem with them denying service for a MacBook Pro in the last month of a 3-year service plan. In this case the Boulder Apple Store claimed "water damage" which Boulder Mac Repair found no sign of.) After expressing my disappointment with Apple's warranty support, I was told that Apple sells more iPhones than any other model. I don't know what the point was here, but the experience I had today at the Apple Store makes me think I should look at an Android for my next phone. So, netting it out, the guys at Boulder Mac Repair fixed my problem in less than 30 seconds. The people at the Apple Store were arrogant, unhelpful, and I wasn't willing to pay $149 for a flat rate repair. Support your local repair shop, Boulder! I just can't figure out how to write this review without revealing that I honestly could not figure out how to use the iPod I got for Christmas. I certainly tried. I installed iTunes on my computer. When I plugged in the iPod it just didn't show up on the screen. Anywhere. And that was just the first layer of complication. I can usually figure out technical stuff for myself. I create and maintain websites. I even have a Mac computer at home, though I don't use it much anymore. Without further going into all the layers of puzzlement I experienced, I will move on directly to the Apple Store. I am so grateful for this Boulder Apple Store. The first time I went there was on the weekend. Progressed through a few layers, thought it was good to go. Finally I could synch the iPod and iTunes and actually listen to some music on my iPod, or so I thought. But the iPod got formatted for Mac at the Apple Store and then it wouldn't work with my laptop. Not at all. Not even after reformatted. Why I love this Apple Store: they were patient, kind, and competent, and they kept working with me until I was able to load songs onto my dear little iPod. The second time I went in, I had an appointment rather than a walk-in session, and the person I made the appointment with reminded me that if I brought my laptop PC in along with the iPod, they could be sure everything was working together and show me how to do it. I know, you're probably thinking, why was this so difficult for Harmony? I don't know either, it just was. The directions that come with the iPod are not very detail-specific, and the instructional website is downright confusing. But now I have songs on my iPod, and am listening to them. The service I received at this store was excellent. Professional, patient, kind, competent. I wanted to pay them. But there was no charge. :o) read more

A month ago, I had a very frustrating experience with the store manager at the Apple Store in Boulder, Colorado. Not only was I disappointed that my iPhone stopped working properly, I was outraged that the Apple Store refused to fix or replace it without charging hundreds of dollars, even if the problem was a manufacturing defect. My iPhone 4S was working fine until I updated to iOS6 operating system. Then afterward Wi-Fi connectivity became inconsistent. Sometimes the Wi-Fi option is greyed out; sometimes it connects but cannot transmit data; then spontaneously, it would start working again. Then iTune prompted another software update, which crashed the phone and disabled all the app icons. And since Wi-Fi option was still greyed out, I could not reinstall the apps. I researched on the Apple website forum and found many similar complaints about "greyed out" Wi-Fi. When I arrived at the Apple Store, a technician told me that the phone needs to be replaced, because the problem is with both the software and the antenna in the hardware. Then he checked that my 1-year warranty has expired 4 days ago, and he said they cannot fix or replace any iPhone that is out of warranty, "no matter if it expired two minutes ago or two months ago". And because there is no documentation with Apple Care or any Apple Store that I have had this problem before my warranty expired 4 days ago, there is nothing they could do about it. I asked to speak with the store manager, he assured me that only a small group of iPhone 4S users have had this problem, and that his own personal iPhone 4S is working just fine (Good for him, I was thinking.) He said I have two options, either just "stuck it out" and keep using the phone without Wi-Fi, or pay the $199 fee to replace with another iPhone 4S. I still have one year left on my cell phone contract with Verizon, and it does not make sense to pay $199 for another iPhone 4S that may or may not have the same issue, while a newer model iPhone5 is already out. I even asked to get a replacement with an older model, like the iPhone4, and he said it is not allowed. The store manager said if they replace my phone, then they would be "setting up a negative example" for other customers whose phones have defects and want a replacement. I said if Apple knows of the problem with iOS6, then it is their responsibility to replace the phone. While he admitted it was a manufacturing defect triggered by iOS6, he said that every software update comes with a disclaimer and "you agreed to take the risk when you clicked on the software update", and the issue is that I fail to report it to Apple before the warranty expired. So while standing in front of the Apple Store at the mall, I dialed Apple Care and talked for half an hour. The representative on the phone, Chris, was helpful and not at all reprimanding about why I didn't report the problem before the warranty expired. He agreed it is a manufacturing defect not by the fault of consumer. He gave me the option of exchanging the phone for a new one through UPS for free, and the new phone will have a 90-day warranty. I have lost my confidence in iPhones, and I am afraid to do anymore software update, in case it will cause new issues. Gone is the era that Apple products are supposed to work and be reliable. My next phone will not be an iPhone for sure. read more

As excited as I am about some apple products, most notably the MacBook and ipod, I dread walking into this store. Could Apple have put together a less customer friendly experience? I don't think so. And more infuriating than anything else, is the apparent underlying assumption.. that their products are intriguing enough that we would overlook being treated so condescendingly. And we do. Let me elaborate. You need to sign in to ask a question. Finding the person to sign in generally requires a question. One is sent back and forth and back and forth across the store, as each employee, an aloof scowl on their face, passes the buck to someone else, the employees desperately trying (and succeeding, thanks to Apple's encouraging business model) to do as little work as possible. And "Genuis" tech support? Are you kidding? I have only ever encountered clownshoes that don't necessarily know their way around an Apple product any better than I do, and struggle to answer simple questions, like the specs on the iTouch camera (that was today.. and yes we made an appointment, and yes we had to wait 15 minutes past our appointment time. Did not charge me a cent for the repair- meanwhile my teenager tried to have the issue fixed yesterday at the Flatirons store and they refused to help her -assisting other adult customers while she stood patiently waiting, and told her she should "look on the internet for the answer" because it was going to "cost a lot of money" to help her in the store. Not happy with some of the employee's attitudes there. On more than one occasion I have received blunt, arrogant answers to my questions. When i asked an employee over the phone if a certain payment process could be done he blunted responded "thats not gonna happen"....ok but you didn't have to say it like that, a normal person would have said "I don't think we can do that, but let me double check" and then apologize if they cannot do it and help me find an alternative. I was once an Apple employee myself and distinctly remember them training us on empathy and being helpful, not on how to bluntly shut down people that need assistance. All this being said, I have dealt with some nice helpful employees at this store, but it seems to be a crap shoot on who you are going to get as my experience has varied every time I visit. read more

My macbook pro flickers constantly when I play movies. The computer also freezes a lot, and apparently is slower than some other machines. I brought my computer in to this Apple Store, and after a couple days they called and told me that the computer performed up to their standard in "pressure tests," so they wiped the computer in case there was some software issue. This didn't resolve anything, and when I got the computer back, not a single issue had been fixed or improved. read more

When my Mac decided to crash OUT OF NO WHERE yesterday, I obviously panicked and drove right to the Apple store... First of all, right when you walk in, every single staff member greets you and asks you if you need help with anything. Because I needed a technician to look at my computer, they sent me to the back to make an appointment. There was a line, but one of the Apple guys asked me if he could help me. Without ever even making an appointment, he got right down to fixing my computer. My Apple creds go all the back to SEs. I've never used anything but Macs and have dealt with Apple stores and Mac resellers all over the world. I've had three transactions at the 29th Street store recently, despite having had experiences there that I really should have yelped about before... and which should have informed my decision about whether to give this place another go. Convenience is sometimes too persuasive a factor. Yesterday, I discovered that what the person on the floor had told me just the week before -- that the genius bar could upgrade the drive in my MacBook Pro in about 45 minutes -- was out and out WRONG. They'll replace a broken drive, but they don't do what she said they did. My ire about this is compounded by the fact that, when I made the appointment, I explained exactly what my purpose was in making the appointment. "Oh," the manager on duty said casually. "We don't actually look at those because there are too many." In that case, Apple, take that part of your appointment form DOWN. Don't give me the impression that you're actually paying attention to why I'm coming in. At the previous appointment, I bought an expensive external drive. The person "helping" me -- I'll use that term loosely because she was also the one who misinformed me -- didn't have a clue about comparing the brands on offer. She finally chased down someone who gave her a sheet of paper that he suggested she keep in her desk. No, she said, she isn't a newbie; she just works on business accounts. I'm wondering if I made an expensive mistake. The ONLY reason 29th Street gets an extra star is because of their 30 day return policy. On that visit, someone greeted me at the door, but even though I told him I had questions about choosing an external drive for my new 27" iMac (that purchase might have been a mistake, BTW), he simply pointed me "that way". I had to track down some help, such as it was, on my own. On the way out, I was given a paper receipt I neither needed nor wanted; I really do prefer their email receipts, but that's not what my "helper" wanted to do. The visit on which I made the iMac purchase was relatively easy. You go through the Apple interface; I chose to do this with a tech standing over my shoulder so that I could be reasonably sure that what I ordered was what I intended to get. (Whether I'm happy with what I got is a question to be addressed elsewhere.) He was quiet, nodded a few times, and that was that. I'll say straight up that I don't love doing business in Boulder. The Apple store seems to attract people who have drunk the Mac kool-aid that includes an extra shot of arrogance. The manager on duty yesterday had to have it explained to him -- by me -- how he can track down exactly who sold the external drive to me AND how to escalate my complaint AND that I want to receive follow-up information. The way to account that comes to my mind is that their training emphasizes emulating the Mac guy on TV. Frankly, at this point I'm ready for a little more John Hodgman and a little less Apple cool. Apples have made good machines, although the quality in the last three years has given me serious pause. I haven't bought a machine that hasn't caused a problem, either right out of the box or within less than two years of purchase. Maybe it's time for Apple to get the kind of lesson in humility that Dell learned late, to its cost. Maybe it could start at the Apple store on 29th. But -- no. This is Apple. So it won't start. Not sure why all the negative reviews. I had a great experience today. I dropped my iPhone 7 this week and cracked the hell out of my screen. I did a walk in this afternoon and was greeted immediately by staff. I showed them what I needed and they put me in contact with the tech center in-store. I had three people immediately help me, so a high shout out to David, Carly, Sylvan, and Riley. They had my phone fixed within 2.5 hrs of me dropping it off. Apple was recommended by another repair store who didn't think they could fix it because of parts. Customer service was Amazing today and staff were extremely accommodating. This place exemplifies how big companies don't care for their customers and their customer's time. Bought an iPhone 6 and its WiFi didn't work. Kept shutting off on its own (my wife's phone worked fine in the same location at same time). Was told by apple phone support that I would need to exchange it, but they couldn't verify if the store would have an exchange unit available. I didn't want to send it back to apple and be without the phone for several weeks. Called the nearest store, and they said they couldn't confirm weather they would have a unit to exchange or not. They said inventory was always changing and to come in. Drove to the store which is an hour away. Told the lady at the door what I needed and she had me wait for a sales person to handle the exchange. The sales person said they had no unitsm but to head to the genius bar, as their inventory was separate and they might have units. Waited in line for the lady at the genius bar and asked her if they had any units there. She said she would have to put me in the queue and have a genius help me. The wait...........2+ hours!!!!! What!!!!????!!!! Just to find out if they had any stock at the store or not. I asked her to just check if they had anything, and she said she wouldn't as it was a "security issue". Have no idea why....but seemed like BS to me. I told her I didn't want to wait 2 hours just to find out they didn't have any units, and she said that I would have to wait, or make an appointment and come back some other time (another hour drive to the store, and hour drive back). So far this sucks. I can't convince her to check the inventory before I wait. I can't believe that a company as advanced as apple has no computer inventory system. That just boggles my mind. Anyway, I decide to wait. And sure enough, after 2 and half hours in the store, the "genius" says they don't have any exchange units. SO ANGRY!!!!! In contrast, I went to home depot to pick up a light bulb for less than $5. I couldn't find it. Asked the sales person who said they would check the computer, and in less than 1 minute I had an answer. So lets compare.....buy a light bulb for less than $5 and expect better service than after buying an $800 phone from crApple. Thanks Apple for wasting my afternoon!!!!! Absolutely useless. I went in to ask a couple questions about my new watch and was told that I could come back another day for a class. I walked out, miffed. Went back and said, "Just to be sure, I have to come back another day and take a whole class, just to get a couple questions answered?" Yep. The repair center are idiots. I took my Mac book in to be repaired. I sat while they ran the diagnostics. The diagnostic showed a bad hard drive. I was quoted $250 to put a new hard drive in. I was called a few days later saying the computer had been repaired. After I got there, I discovered they had fried the system board, and the Graphic board. They wanted me to pay for the Graphic board and labor to install it that was not mentioned before. I sat there for more than an hour arguing with them that I did not authorize all these repair that they had created. I would not recommend these idiots to anyone. read more

Awesome store. Helpful sales persons and savvy techs. I can't imagine the time it takes for those techs to learn everything. I've had techs here that have solved issues they have never seen before, so they have the right procedures down. The geniuses seem to collaborate, too, so I'm always confident that my issues will be resolved, regardless of cost. Reading through the comments, there are weird reviews, such as the, "racist," review. Last time I was in there, a black gal was laughing with a Genius and were all smiles, and one of the sales people were talking to customers in Spanish. I'm ethnic German/Indian, and am pretty dark, and didn't feel uncomfortable. It seems like customers have issues with this store only because: -(The customers) aren't accountable for the physical damage that they made to their devices, and are upset when Apple won't fix it under a limited warranty that does not include damage coverage; -(The customers) don't take advantage of the resources that they have when getting a new device, such as technical support over the phone or the walk-throughs that Apple emails to you when you purchase a new device, let alone the endless support articles on Apple.com; -(The customers) are entitled twits who have self esteem issues and have a complete lack of self-awareness when they're feeling, "condescended," (Psychology 101) or like they're rushed. Apple stores have always been about answers, education and transactions, not hand-holding. Today At Apple classes and phone support are for the (close to) helpless, not this extremely talented team of Specialists and Geniuses whom have very specific jobs and areas of expertise. When I switched from my government Blackberry to an iPhone when I got into the Bio-Tech industry, I took a basics class, read the tutorials Apple emailed me, and I was up and running; -(The customers) don't seem to understand that every employee is pretty much under a microscope in terms of rigid decision making and troubleshooting in the Genius Bar. I had a friend who was a Genius, and from my understanding, they follow strict warranty policy and have to follow their systems, whatever they are. One of the reviews on here say that a bent phone was covered by their warranty... I want to know what that guy was smoking, so I can avoid a huge loss of brain cells, just like he did! Just because you have to pay for something that is out of warranty or that you damaged (regardless as to whether you remember how or not), doesn't mean you can play the, "poor me," race card or age card when you don't get what you want; -(The customers) should be grateful that Apple has stores; that you can walk in and fix your device on the same day, and that you can avoid getting refurbished trash from cellular carriers. It's never about being able to buy something; it's about keeping it. Don't buy flagship devices if you can't afford the maintenance and service. These electronics are the equivalent to BMW's. Got a new ipad as a gift and can't get thru the website to make an appointment with genius bar to get it set up. Apple used to be so great with customer service but not any more. The website is terrible - I go round and round. There is no way to make an appointment. I have a MacBook and a MacPro, my MacBook needs to be replaced DESPERATELY so I wandered into the Apple store to check out their new supposedly uber fast MacBook Pros. It was crowded, as usual and an unsmiling Apple guy greeted me and directed me to the new MBPs. He then turned his back on me and continued to stand within 10 feet of the front door, facing out. Not really greeting people, more like standing sentry. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked about how to make the MBP work the fastest and he reached over to the keyboard of the MBP in front of me and clicked on the Apple store webpage. Ironic, is it not, that I walked into an Apple retail store only to be shown their website? Mr. Unfriendly started quickly spewing some specs about the hard drive choices, clicked the touchpad and turned back around to stare out the front door. I miss my Apple store in Palo Alto or Berkeley -- they know how to be friendly AND make customers feel welcome AND not coincidentally that's where I felt like buying a computer. Drove up here for some fun classes on photos (a photo walk and one on storage) as well as video--all awesome classes! Learned about other products while there. It was just one huge learning day for me since I am a historically androider. I have a feeling the iPhone is just the beginning of an apple transformation for me! read more

I've now been here 3 times to resolve the same issue. Apparently it takes a 'genius' 3 tries to diagnose a failing hard drive. Mean while I've been sent home twice telling me my computer is fixed. Turns out, it isn't... and I lost EVERYTHING. To top it off I get to pay for an overpriced hard drive. Did I mention that the second genius gave up and abandoned me because she was scheduled to provide 'phone support' ? I love apple products, but the customer service is swiftly heading downhill. At the premium prices they charge, customers expect a premium customer service experience. I'll continue to buy and love my Apple products, but I'll think twice about revisiting this Apple store. read more
