This spot kept coming up in Yelp searches whenever I was back in the area visiting my folks. To be honest, I never quite knew where it was, and it closed earlyish (it's a breakfast-brunch-lunch spot), but then my mom went there a few weeks ago on an outing with a friend. She very much enjoyed it, and so I decided that on my next visit to Broomall, I'd find my way over there. It turns out it's in the little strip mall that used to house Kingfu (now New Leaf) when I was growing up, near Swiss Farms, and when I arrived, the strip mall parking lot was packed (didn't realize there was more parking in the back), so I nabbed a spot on the street and in I went. There was a bit of a wait--about 20 minutes, they told me after taking my name--which was no problem. The indoor tables are reasonably well spaced, and there are also a quartet of outdoor tables. I was fortunate to get one of the outdoor tables, perfectly shaded at that time of day, and they brought me a menu, took my drink order (water was perfect, since I was going walking after) and brought me a pair of sample chunks of their "Jewish apple walnut cake." After some discussion--because a lot of things looked good--I opted for the Cowboy wrap: eggs, bacon, onions, green peppers and American cheese in a tortilla. I also subbed fruit in for the potatoes. While I waited for that to arrive, I went after one of those cake pieces, and it was incredibly moist and delicious. I decided to save the second piece until after my meal. The wrap itself was yummy. The tortilla and everything inside it was perfectly cooked, and I loved the gooeyness of the melted cheese. The fruit, which included strawberries, bananas and grapes, was a nice complement. And, of course, there was still that yummy bite of cake, which was just as good after as before. Service is friendly, prices are fair and the whole place is welcoming and comfy: I hope to get back here on future visits to my hometown to try more of the menu. But this is definitely a winner--I'm glad I found it at last! read more

This is a great place to come for breakfast or brunch. I've heard it's really crowded on the weekend but we came during the week so we didn't have any problem getting a table. Parking here can be challenging though. I had lunch three first time I was here and had the pork sandwich. It was good but seeing everyone's breakfast items made me sorry I didn't order breakfast. This time I decided to order the banana French toast. The French toast was really good and the bananas and granola really added to it. I didn't need to add any syrup. My daughter got the apple bread French toast and my friend got the cinnamon one. Both loved theirs as well. The staff here are really friendly and treat everyone like they are regulars. I have a feeling this will be a regular stop every time I return to Pennsylvania. read more

Food is very good here I got the tomato and cream cheese omelette and it was fantastic the best part was that the omelette was not brown or over cooked on the outside side. The home fries they use the red potatoes with onion. Really good. My wife got two eggs over medium, scrapple, home fries and toast. All were fantastic. Service was very good and the place is a nice size From the outside it does not look as big. The only thing is it's a little pricy but when the food is good you don't mind too much. We grabbed a table for four at the Apple Walnut Cafe on a Sunday Morning, just beating a crowd of people. The cafe itself is adorable - it's your standard cafe, with mismatched chairs and a country vibe. The staff is so pleasant and the service is excellent. The hostess seats you and leaves behind a little basket of their Jewish Apple Cake. It is so moist and such a pleasant surprise to sit down to - every enjoyed their bite of this baked good. All in all, it's a standard breakfast menu with a few unique items and the food is what you would expect for breakfast food (you have to try pretty hard to disappoint me at breakfast). I had the latkes with poached eggs and the eggs were perfectly poached. The latkes on the other hand were a bit disappointing. Both my husband and I had ordered them (he had gotten some as a side) and they weren't crisp enough - the bottoms were soggy and the insides were too mushy, so the texture was a bit off-putting. Other than soft latkes, everything else was really good - I had a side of turkey sausage and it was some of the best I have had. My son had the Philly Cheesesteak Omelet and it was the perfect steak to cheesiness ratio. My daughter had pancakes that looked like Minnie (not Mickey) and was tickled pink. Nothing fancy ( although the baked goods in the display case looked delicious) but everything was well prepared, and the service was on point. I've frequented Apple Walnut Cafe many times and this is the first I came away not pleased. Visited on a rainy Thursday with my sister around 1 pm. For a change it wasn't crowded perhaps because of the torrent outside. Barbara was our waitress. I believe Barbara was new since she didn't know what herbal teas were available and I gave her a pass when it took a god-awful time for her to serve it. She also forgot the samples of apple walnut cake always served before taking the orders. Teas $2.50 @ I always order the Cafe Scramble Bowl with the "kitchen sink" full of add-ins and this day was no exception. $10 + 1.00 for avocado My sister ordered the chicken croquettes which came with mashed potatoes and gravy. $12.50 My order was again egg-ceptional but my sister's choice was a disaster. Unsure how chef grated the chicken but the result was gritty and although you could identify the taste as chicken it just wasn't palatable. Then, Barbara may have been new but she certainly wasn't attentive especially when I saw her talking for a good length of time with friends. She ignored my sister's platter sitting by itself at the end of the table, a flag your customer is unhappy with her meal. Now, the bottom line is management did take the croquettes off the check and sister ate the bread my meal came with. Will I be back? Love this place. One of the more up-scale cafes around, and still has that homey feeling, all at a normal price. The staff is some of the friendliest people, too. Always courteous and complimentary, they make you feel welcomed. Even when it's busy, the wait isn't too long. I think the longest I've waited was about 20minutes (which c'mon people, it's only 20 minutes..) They bring you little pieces of delicious apple bread when you sit down, and the food is phenomenal whether it's breakfast or lunch. Everything about the Apple Walnut Café is wonderful, almost. The food is great, the ambience is nice, the hostess was very sweet. Our waitress was not a people person. I don't think she even likes people, or at least she doesn't like strangers. All of our exchanges were curt and very businesslike. If she was 20, I would've written it off to a generational thing. The waitress was well past her 20s and had been a waitress for quite some time. She was not nice. She was not pleasant, and it took a little bit away from the experience. Five stars all around for Apple Walnut Cafe! I was looking for a lunch spot for 9 on Friday and called ahead to see if they thought they could accommodate us around noon. The cafe looks small from the outside so I wasn't sure how much seating they had. I saw online that they didn't take reservations, but they kindly offered to prepare a table for us if I called again when we were on our way. Off to a good start. When we arrived, our table was ready to go and they greeted our group by name. I unfortunately had three people decide not to come last minute, and I felt bad that we had taken up such a large table space. When I apologized and informed our waitress, Angel, of the change, she quickly moved one of the smaller tables without batting an eye. She didn't make us feel bad at all for having less people and said she completely understood. Every table starts off with a small basket of Jewish Apple Cake - enough for each person to have a couple bites. Any place that gives you free cake to start your meal is a winner in my book. Everyone was very happy with their lunch selections, which ranged from sandwiches to French toast. I got the Impossible Burger which I actually wouldn't get again, but that's not because of Apple Walnut - it's because I realized I just don't like it as much as Beyond Burgers, a competing brand. Back to our server Angel, who was fantastic. She was so hospitable and provided excellent service. After learning that it was our first time there, she brought over complimentary "samples" of their namesake Apple Walnut Pie. Omg. It was creamy and crunchy and tangy - absolutely delicious. The pieces were so large, especially for being lm the house! Everyone got a half slice on their own plate with a cute swirl of whipped cream. This was an excellent move on the part of the restaurant because 5 of the 6 people in our group ended up buying additional pastries to go at the end of our meal. Toilet in the restroom had a slight rock to it but i didn't end up on the floor so not the end of the world. The toilet paper was on the paper thin side, which is more on par with college dorms than your neighborhood breakfast venue, however, that wasn't even the real issue when compared to lack of regulation width rolls. Ever try to wipe with a miniature post it note? Now imagine all those before you with that went through that same experience then try washing your hands in a public restroom without automatic soap, sink, and paper towel dispensers. Where they lacked hygiene, they made up for with high quality occupancy sensor switches to save energy. Bathroom experience aside; service, food (omelette and poached egg meals with home fries and fire rye toast), and the apple cake treats they start you with were all on point. I googled diner near me and this place was one of the choices and was close. It's in a strip mall and I've probably ridden past numerous times. Upon entry we were greeted by a friendly hostess who was concerned about my mother and her walker. Once seated comfortably our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered and our food came out timely. I was disappointed at first when I saw the potatoes looking like tater tots. They were cubed potatoes and I asked for onions cooked in. This place was amazing! Our waitress Denise made our experience incredible. She recommended the potato pancake sticks which were 10/10, and she even brought us a complimentary apple walnut pie. We stopped here for lunch based on things a friend of mine had heard about it. Things started off on a high note with a small serving of apple cake brought to our table. We both ordered the same thing - grilled ham and cheese on apple bread. Because how can you come to an Apple-themed restaurant and not order that!? We also ordered a basket of homemade potato chips with meaty cheese that was quite good. The sandwiches came and smelled delicious. I love apple-ham-cheese flavors and I was really excited to try this plate. Although the flavors were good, the ham wasn't my favorite. It had a strange sort of after-taste to it that I couldn't put my finger on. And there was just too much piled onto the sandwich for my taste. It's a personal preference but my friend said the same thing. The sandwich was good but I didn't love, love, love it. I would like to go back and try something else on the menu just to see if it was an off day or something. The waitress was a doll and brought us a slice of apple walnut pie since it was our first time visiting. The pie is really a mix of cheesecake, apples and walnuts in a pie crust and it's quite delicious! I prefer to eat apple pie warm but with cheesecake it's much better nice and chilled. We split it and both agreed it was a unique and flavorful take on traditional apple pie.
