First visit at this location on a Wednesday night. The stage was set when the hostess alerted us that there were only two waiters. Our waiter Ava was decent. She memorized what my family of four wanted without writing. Everything was brought out by others the way it should; appetizers first then main course. What slacked was the attentiveness to clean up. She would restock drinks but leave the empty cups. Main course came and she wouldn't take the appetizer plates to make room. It's just the little things that go a long way. read more

first off, there was only three other families in the whole restaurant, and five other servers, but somehow we could never be served. Our drinks were never refilled. We had to continuously ask or repeat ourselves for what we were needing or wanting the food was awful. It gave me and my friend, a literal headache and stomachache, and it tasted like we were drowning in butter. The workers blatantly ignored their manager multiple times they were all just sitting in a booth gossiping about who knows what. I overheard the manager tell them to close out their tables because of a storm and one of them yelled, "I'm scared!" for literally no reason. This was an awful experience. We came here to watch the soccer game and we couldn't even watch it because all the TVs weren't working and there was trashy music on blast. I had an outstanding experience at Applebee's thanks to Angela S., the manager on duty. From the moment we walked in, she made us feel welcome and valued. Angela went above and beyond to ensure everything about our visit was perfect she checked on our table personally, made sure our meals were just right, and handled everything with such professionalism and warmth. Altho the restaurant was short staffed It's rare to see a manager so genuinely engaged with both the guests and the staff. You can tell she really cares about creating a positive atmosphere. It looked full, but we were seated immediately in a booth out of the traffic pattern. Service was spot on, with water, menus, and drinks within minutes of arriving. Our server was personable, efficient, and very knowlegeable. My fiesta lime chicken and Meg's quesadilla burger were delicious. We were visiting our daughter & her family and decided to take them out to eat. We went to a few other locations, fortunately none had available seating for our large group, before choosing Applebees. I reluctantly ordered the NY Strip ( I say reluctantly because other Applebees can't cook a steak as ordered.) My steak was delivered as ordered. It was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I am sorry to read that Michelle's had a poor experience. Although, I am almost always by myself and belly up to the bar. Arrived on Thursday at 7pm. and was seated at the bar. The bartender wonderfully introduced herself (Sara) and along with another young lady (Kristin). Both had great smiles and attitudes which made me very welcome. The staff at this location is very nice. There was only one waitress on staff when our party of 9 was so seated, so we were patient and had a good time while waiting for our food. Just not a good stop. Wife and I were traveling back from NY and needed food and sleep. Stopped and spied this place thinking Applebees is usually decent; better than fast food. I used the restroom and it was nasty. It smelled of urine and was very dirty. The stall was busted up and the toilet seer was falling off. There were no towels and the counter looked like it was going to come off the wall. My meal was ok, but was pretty flavorless. I had the blackened chicken and shrimp. The wife asked for a chicken and broccoli Alfredo, but can't have chicken and asked to swap for steak. The steak was over cooked and flavorless. Just not a good stop. read more

Came in even after i saw the reviews, as I was on my way to South Carolina and was really hungry. The host gave me a warm welcome and gave me the option to sit wherever I would like. I sat on one of the round tables by the bar, and was greeted by my server in almost an instant! I got the 4 cheese chicken tender mac & cheese and I had no complaints. The vibe was pretty chill with conversations going on at the bar as well as chatter among the dining tables. My server made sure to check up on me every so often, but not too much to bug me. Only complaint was that the stella on draft was a bit off, but that's always a hit or miss. I also observed this guy seemed to have trouble communicating and was a bit awkward. I haven't been at this location for years. I found some gift cards and decided to give it a try again especially since they were giving Top Gun tickets with each 25.00 product purchase. I made my selections for a takeout order. A few minutes later the mozzarella sticks were delivered on a plate. Ok, maybe a miscommunication. I finally got my order, a stack of receipts (still don't understand what caused 4 receipts but...) I read through the receipts and saw my total at 45.00. I asked if I could add a beer to bring the total up to 50.00 but was told that they'd have to back out the purchases and redo it. They didn't want to do so even though it meant more sales. Oh I forgot to say that it was me and 6(six) other customers at dinner time. So much for a promotion meant to increase sales. Got the food home ate and 7 hours later the grease and off taste hit. We've stopped there as i wanted to give it a try since the name appear very often on the advertising boards. Plus , we travelled with dogs. We were looking for a terrace and there was one. Went there and woman ( around 50-60 with braces or silver teeth, ) said she had to check if i could go with the dogs. She went at the bar, laughed for 5 minutes and I never heard her asked for my request. She came back and said there is no one to serve on the terrace. My family and I came to Kings Dominion for a family trip from NC. We decided not to eat at the park and go to Applebees (which was in walking distance from our hotel) after. According to the internet they closed at midnight and we got there at 1030. They wouldn't seat us and stated "we close in 30 minutes sooo". They turned away at least 20 paying customers while I was standing there. Save your time and just go straight to Buffalo Wild Wings, it's 12 miles away but at least they want the service! This is my first time eating here and my last time. I ordered the Unlimited Chicken Tenders, Shrimp, and Rib-let meal for $14.99. I started with the shrimp not bad , the asked for the chicken tenders. When the waitress brought them out she asked was I okay. I said I was fine but are those chicken tenders she said yes. I said they look like the shrimp so she proceeded to touch them with her bare hands and so that's not shrimp that's chicken and walked off ! I'm done for the night!!!!!! This Applebee's has the worst service. We are forced to eat here late at night after the long State Fair days. I have never seen a group of staff members so unmotivated or such a poorly run business. They were understaffed, had a terrible attitude, continuously made mistakes with orders. Unfortunately this is not an unusual experience. We have experienced this poor service over several years and this weekend the topic at the fairgrounds was how awful Applebee's among all the competitors that had eaten there the night before. The food was average and so not really a problem. The service was so bad it was comical at times. Only visit this Applebee's if after 10pm and everything else is closed. Plan on a long visit and a great deal of frustration at the end of the day. read more

Good, not great. Just what you would expect from a chain restaurant on the interstate. Our waitress was friendly, the service was good, and the food is what we expected. It's probably time for a thorough cleaning of the restaurant, since the carpets are very worn and obviously dirty. The whole place had that sticky feeling about it, but most likely from age and use, not because they don't take care of it. We are locals and this is our favorite watering hole but recently they hired a bunch of new staff and we had a pretty bad experience unfortunately. We still love the place but they need to do some training or house cleaning. We always sit outside and check in with the front to get our menus and let them know we are here but the other day we waited for 40 minutes and the staff kept walking out to the to go parking spot and ignoring us. Finally we flag this girl down and asked her for service and she got smart with us. Even though she saw us there for 45 minutes while she took food to go and it was her section she went inside to figure out why she didn't know about us and then three times stated that we had never checked in the front even though we corrected her and showed her that we had menus from the front that was handed to us by the hostess. She wanted to insist on arguing that we were wrong essentially accusing us of lying finally we just got up and left without ordering anything it was a bridge too far read more

Very disappointed. Took my family there for lunch that turned into dinner. They were short staffed and we were very understanding however the waitress messed up our orders, took 30 minutes to get our food, my 2y/o granddaughter has to wait longer for her pizza, fries were cold and to top it off our server never came back. We had to get the manager to get us what we needed. The manager comped our meals but we still had to pay for some things. No problem. we had the manager split our checks but when we went to pay, our server who we hadn't seen all night took it upon herself to unsplit our checks and charged one card for the table. Mixed drinks are good but food is awful. Tried this place a few times and it's just not worth the stop or money for the food.

I came into this place about 3:00 pm, was greeted with a hello from the bartender but waited about five minutes before anyone came to seat me. The only good part about the place was how nice my server was. The food was so disgusting though, I felt bad for him having to serve it. I got a Caesar salad. Iceberg lettuce not romaine and lettuce was all brown and nasty. I also got the chicken, bacon cheddar sandwich. It was also inedible. Never had chicken with that texture before, it was rubbery. It looked like chicken but definitely didn't taste like it. The lettuce on the chicken was also brown and the tomato wasn't fresh. Even the bacon and cheese were tasteless. The slice of red onion was the only part of the meal that was even palatable. I would not go here. Better off with the chick fil a or fudruckers right near by. It did look like that had a lot of drink specials people were e joying at the bar, but the food was just plain bad read more
