Oh No is under-statement!! I remember clearly this was the place to go now, don't see why doors not closed!! Very understaffed, cluttered tables and it seemed like this was going to be bad experience!! Literally about 4 employees and one cook! No table bus people! The beer on tap is HOT, so at least they are not selling it. Bottle beers was extremely slim pickings and no cans!! Don't know why they don't go to krogers next door and buy beer for the restaurant!! But, I do have to say even though understaffed, our waitress/Bartender was very attentive and stopped by several times. She was very apologic about the fact one cook and beer understocked...it was a major snowstorm! I really at first wanted to leave 2 stars, but she turned it around! The food was good! If you don't mind roaches then this is the place for you. We stopped for a quick bite. As we were waiting at the high top tables we watched roaches walking on the walls, section dividers, tables, etc. Spoke with the manager and he was unconcerned, said they have a company and walked away. We left and have never returned. Employees of the recent past have stories about deep frying the roaches to see what happens. The place is so run down and so poorly managed it is sad. Veteran's Day 2025 and the restaurant was crowded but the service was very good and fast. Veteran's could order for a free meal from a menu. Since military veterans are a little older and tend to bring only their wife, the place filled up pretty quickly. Food was good! read more

So.Many.Flies. Our first clue should have been the empty parking lot. There was an unpleasant odor when we walked in the door. The restaurant itself looks rundown. Stained carpet, ripped seats in booths. The staff were very nice and tried but the food was awful. The nachos were basically just browned hamburger on chips. The chicken tortilla soup tasted like ground beans with some spices. The salad was flavorless. There were flies buzzing all around us-some mating on the light fixture hanging over our table. We tried to pay with a large bill and they couldn't make change without the manager, who had disappeared. We should have just bought a frozen dinner at the hotel and microwaved it. Stopped in at 11:30 for lunch. Wanted to try the chicken sandwich $9.99 special. Waitress tells us that they are out of burgers! Ok we're the for chicken sandwich but........ they only have one chicken sandwich!! Amazing! So I get THE chicken sandwich and my wife has the boneless wings. Wings are barely warm but the chicken sandwich is piping hot and burns me. My fault for that. Sandwich was ok wings were not and the service was good. This was a fun visit at the best Applebee's we've been to! Firstly, there's the little Presto machine you see on every table, which you can use to order desserts, make a payment, and play games (we didn't, but you never know). The service staff was friendly and on point, and the nice buzz in the whole place combined with everything else kind of made up for the little dips in the food: ++ Cedar grilled lemon chicken: grilled, yes; lemon, I think so; cedar? I'm not sure. The only thing that let this down was the disappointingly dry chicken, and it really should not be. 3.5/5 Caprese mozzarella chicken: not quite the same as in the picture in the menu, but a good combination of tomato, red onion, mashed potatoes, and grilled chicken. Chicken was, again, dry, but definitely less dry than the above. 4/5 House salad with French dressing: we were given a choice of 3-4 dressing, and French was fine. Lettuce was crisp, chopped veggies tasted nice and fresh, and the croutons were surprisingly buttery and amazing. Not the freshest cherry tomatoes, but it's forgiven. 4.5/5 -- Caesar salad: the lumps of seasoning and dressing spoiled this otherwise good version of Caesar salad. I went with my wife to have a drink when we got in no one greeted us at the door when we finally had found someone they seated us at a dirty table she wipes it off with a wet rag leaving the table soaked glad we only came for drinks the bar was dirty as well when our waitress arrived i told her we needed about 5 mins to decide what drink we wanted we waited close to 30 mins so we sat at the bar I told the Mgr and he was upset but him and the bartender took great care of us the waitress came back after 30 mins looks at us and go straight to the back when the white couple came in she all of a sudden did her job I was offended at that point shrugged it off cause only two people served us and they were black if it wasn't for then I'd left don't know when if I ever go back but if I do I hope the waitress can accommodate us we spend money like every one else. read more

My wife and I decided to get a light dinner at our local Applebee's in KC. She purchased a small steak and broccoli with cheese. When she received her dinner the broccoli was dry, brown, and tasted old. The steak was warm and cooked rare. She wanted it well done. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around 3. Upon arrival I noticed the front doors and how dirty they were. However we went in the host was over on the window seat with an iPad that was more dirty than the glass in the doors. Sat us in the back corner after seeming miffed we asked to be sat in the bar for the ballgames. Once at that table we were sat at, with no menus mind you, we sat and sat. No acknowledgment. Finally I looked at my husband and said you want to go. With that we left. I honestly felt like we needed to shower after leaving. Not sure how they pass a health inspection. So first time I ever visited this particular Applebee's we had a long day at work so we did curbside pickup. Food was very good and service was friendly. The issue was that the next day my card was charged four times. I called and spoke with a manager. After 3 calls the extra charges were taken off my card. Last night we visited again. We sat at the bar top. Bartender was very friendly. Our late lunch was very good. Today again I got home from work and there are 3 charges on my card for my late lunch again. So my advice is that if you are going to visit this particular Applebees I would pay with cash or visit somewhere else. It takes several days to get your money back. This location is in dire need of better staff training, communication, and management. During a recent visit, I ordered a Thai Shrimp Salad and Shrimp Scampi lunch combo. The choices seemed appealing, and, at $8.99, represented a decent value. However, my *shrimp* salad arrived sans shrimp. Our apologetic server did bring them on a separate plate after the error was pointed out, and they were cooked nicely. My companion, in the meantime, inquired about the soup of the day and was told it was a chicken corn chowder. Thinking it a relatively healthy option, she ordered that, only to receive a cream of potato soup that had a few bits of corn and no chicken. The response from our server was that this *was* supposed to be a chicken corn chowder. Right. After being offered French Onion or Tomato Basil soup as alternatives, she ordered the Tomato Basil...only to receive the French Onion. Finally, this mix-up was corrected, and the resulting Tomato Basil soup tasted fine. It should be noted that this Applebees was far from busy during our visit. Managers and servers were observed standing around and chatting or idly playing with their phones. In other chains (Ruby Tuesday, Chili's, etc.), managers will at least walk the floor to see how patrons are faring. Not here. As a chain, Applebees typically rates higher than this (and the food at least is up to standards), and I have not experienced these issues at other locations. But to anyone traveling through Charleston, you'd do well to avoid this establishment. read more

I come to this applebees all the time... there may have been one time there was someone up front to seat us. Usually you have to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes for anyone to come over to you. Today I was waiting up front to get seated and every single server looked at me and just continued what they were doing. The only person who didn't see me was the bartender. She is the only one who has actually acknowledged us at the front but is usually too busy behind the bar to come seat us. You need to get a hostess or tell your servers if they see customers at the front to stop sweeping or talking to the other servers to take 10 seconds to seat someone. Food is always great and service is great as well but that first impression when you walk into your store usually dampens the mood right away. read more

Sadly Applebee's is the has been of restaurants, what used to be a flagship of good dining. After multiple menu changes and taking away popular items as management would call diversity changes has changed Applebee's completely, menu choices are slim and what is there to choose from is not what I would call decent dining. You could probably get the same dining at say McDonald's. Unfortunately while I have tried to give Applebee's another chance they have yet let me down once again. Hopefully in time they will become the restaurant they once was but until then I just can't give them more than one star. One positive I can say is they do follow the guidelines for covid pretty well and at least they have that going for them. read more

Today, my mother told me that this was the worst restaurant (in regards to customer service and wait on food) that she has ever experienced in her 64 years on Earth. I got there first at 12:45 and was seated. My mother and son got there shortly after. My son ordered an appetizer (boneless wings) and a kid's meal (chicken tenders). My mother and I ordered pasta. At 1:45 (an hour later), we were still waiting on our pasta and my son's chicken tenders. The waitress told us the hold up was HIS FRENCH FRIES. In the meantime, she forgets his refill and bleu cheese dressing for the boneless wings. We finally gave up on sauce and ate the wings as is. When the pasta came, she forgot my extra cheese sauce. It took 15-20 minutes to get that, so I had to pick at my penne slowly. I asked for ranch for my breadstick but ended up using my son's ranch (for his fries) because I never got any. My mom decided to "wing it" and order a brownie. She thought a brownie would be quick. WRONG! The waitress felt the need to stop and talk to every Tom, Dick and Harry about her kids and random stuff. We didn't leave until 3:15. 2 1/2 hours after I was seated!!! It was ridiculous. Service has never been great at this location, but I had decided to give it another chance. I was wrong to do so. AND refills?? We were parched during our entire meal. She asked us if we needed refills AS WE WERE LEAVING. Boo!!! read more

What caused me to write a review is when I walked in no one acknowledged me. Finally a guy in nice blue shirt and slacks addressed me and asked where I'd like to sit. Upon getting settled, I noticed that guy was now sitting at another table in bar area, eating. I also noticed a table of four of the female servers sitting at a table also eating. Surprised me. O.K. It's been years since I went in to an Applebee's but we were traveling and it had a good location. I ordered a Quesadilla burger that was not a great concept. The sanwich was very messy and drippings were everywhere. There were also a few inedible small pieces of something that were more than crunchy. I did not bring it to anyone's attention.
