I received 3 gift cards from my friend to go to Applebee's and decided to come to this location. After my experience here I have successfully cut that "friend" out of my life. The place smelled like a rotten Subway restaurant. We ordered the classic combo appetizer. The mozz sticks were like rubber. The spinach artichoke dip was very runny. And we think that they forgot to put onions in the onion rings. My friend ordered the bourbon street chicken and shrimp for his meal but subbed salmon for the chicken. The shrimp were the size of a penny, which was disappointing since they were the size of my fist on the menu. And his exact words were, "it feels like i'm eating a block of salt." My other friend received a salad when she ordered a sandwich. But it was our waiter's first day and he was very nice so she didn't want to complain. The food was good, the waiter was great and helped us all with our food and was very apologetic when the food was taking long to arrive but he kept giving updates to make sure we were ok. My boyfriend, our baby and I just got home from Applebee's. We had the worse service ever! We didn't get our drinks right away. Waiting 45 min for our food (it wasn't busy) and watched people get their food before us that came in way after! Then once we got our food we had to ask about our baby's food. Run!!! I keep telling myself time after time stop giving this chain the BOD (Benefit of Doubt) and yet I find myself here. First things first I find a dead roach on our drink menu and inform the waitress of the offense. She proceeds to look at me as if I did something wrong. We should have blew the joint from that point but I was there for dollar drink specials ( which aren't a $1 after 9pm) so we decided to stay. We waited almost 15 minutes for our server to return before we had to speak with someone else's waiter. My table's frustrations were through the roof at this point so we decided to speak with a manager who wasn't even aware of the dead roach. My husband and I decided to come to this place because most of the restaurants were closing within an hour. Applebee's stays open until 12. We pretty much left hungry..the waitress was not pleasant and seemed to have a nasty attitude. At one point I had to stop talking and look around because she kept looking over my shoulder. We ordered an appetizer and the waitress preceded to tell us that she couldn't tell us when we were going to get our food meaning the dinner portion. My husband and I were so confused and we probably should of left then. The food did come out 5 minutes after we got our appetizers and was cold and nasty. The so called "fresh fries" were worse than the first batch and had a funny taste. The manager came over and seem to think the situation was funny. She did take the fries off our bill but due to her forgetting to take it off we had to wait 30 more minutes because the waitress couldn't find the manager. By the way I didn't eat anything. Food portions was huge and tasty (to our surprise) and we were overall happy with the experience. The one waitress that served me was very nice. That being said, she seemed to be one of the only waitresses in the whole building. She was running around very fast. I was very impressed how good of a waitress she was for the amount of work she was doing. I was there for almost 2 hours..it tooked 30 min too get appetizers, the when I get my entree, its overcooked and cold..STAY AWAY!! Loud customers were behind me.. it was not family setting at all. Worst service ever my wife and I sat at our table for 15-20 minutes and received no service. Our waitress never came to see us or check on us. A bartender had to come over and take our drink orders and our food. When our appetizer came out our waitress finally showed up. ROACH!!! I am an avid customer at the Southpark Applebee's. Unfortunately, last night at 10:17 pm I witnessed a very unfortunate event at the bar. A roach crawled atop the bar in front of one of the customers. This customer as well as two others witnessed this roach atop the bar near the gentleman's drinks and belongings. Following our outburst not one Applebee's employee questioned our hysteria and outburst regarding the roach. The presence of the roach is unsanitary and unacceptable on so many different levels. The roach or roaches could be infesting the building, crawling on actual food or on food surfaces. Myself and the other customers were utterly disgusted and will not be returning. I am giving this one star, right now, for the hostess that was hired to seat us. As we were entering someone stopped to compliment my daughter on her shirt. I saw the hostess heading our way but when I looked away she was gone. I looked around and saw her over standing by a booth and waving us over. As we walked toward the booth she walked off. My friend and I were starving after he got off work. He had never really been off base so we didnt know where to go. So we picked applebees not knowing it would be the worst mistake of our life. We got In there and it was like a ghost town. No customers and no hosts or waiters. We stood there with another family for about 10 minutes with no host to seat us. The bartender dude walked over to us and the family and told us he couldnt seat us but asked if we wanted him to go get someone. Should have left then and here but didnt. He went and got this rude woman from the back who tried to seat us at the bar and not a regular table even tho we asked. Probably because none of the tables were clean, literal mess everywhere. Rude sat us down at the bar because they were too lazy to clean the tables. To make this short we ordered cokes s got water, wernt given silverware, food was cold and undercooked, salad had no ranch. My family went out for a Friday night dinner. We got there and we were seated immediately. That was the only good part of whole experience. After being seated it took another 30 minutes to get acknowledged. Waitress messed up drink orders and never bothered to bring correct drinks. Took another hour to get our food. Our waitress made it a point to check on all her tables, except ours. She never checked on us, never asked if we needed drinks, never asked how everything was. She just looked at our table, after checking on everyone esle, and walked on by us. Then there was the manager who would talk to others but not us. I love Applebee's. I've been a customer for years. This specific Applebee's I've never had a issue with until NOW. I ordered carside to go it was done on time and I didn't even have to wait. However I got home only to realize how poorly my food was put together. I ordered a quesadilla and the tortilla was soft and pulled apart easily there was LITERALLY 3 pieces of Pico de Gallo on one piece. I basically was eating a lot of cheese. I've never been this disappointed with Applebee's before. I don't know who the chef was that prepared this but they must be new or something because I've never had a problem before. One of the most disorganized Applebee's I've been to. Every time I go here, I would get moved from one server to another while just trying to order a to go order. At one point, the staff in charge of to go orders was not at work, so I had to order at the bar. The food takes almost 25-30minutes to come out first off and depending on who takes my order, sometimes it took another 5-10minutes of waiting for someone to assist me. Last time I was here, there was even an argument in front of customers between the lady working at the bar and one of the waitresses. The waitress needed a drink and the bar tender lost her cool saying she can only do so much and that the waitress had to wait. The only good thing about this place is their two for twenty meal. It's a pretty good deal and their menu selection for the entrees aren't too bad. I wouldn't really want to dine in. If you're in a mood for some to go, I do recommend trying it out. read more

Even worse you have a manager walking around checking on the guest Maybe you should pay attention to all of your guest. WOW! Now I understand why they have an overall 1.5 star out of 40+ reviews. There was a 30 minute wait with more than 6 EMPTY tables( that I could see from the door). Whats going on?? After being seated and ordered our drinks and food. I ordered a Long Island with no coke and light ice. The drinks arrived in smaller than normal glasses and my cup was filled to the top with ice. I asked for a manager. When Brianna(the manager) arrived she came to the table with "no smile" and said "yes". Is that the way you great customers?? I explained to her what i asked for and she returned with the same drink with no ice... she isn't a good listener. Im not sure what qualifies her to even be a manager on a busy Saturday night. Just because you work for a company for a long time doesn't mean you have managerial skills. THIS LOCATION NEEDS A OVERALL MAKEOVER WITH NEW EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING!! Where is the GM??? This place needs help!! We had a trainer and a new server. The trainer kyanna wasn't friendly at all, no smile when greeting us or talking with us. The new employee was friendly and knowledgeable for it only to be her 4th day. So come to find out the training servers don't share their tips with the person they are training. I have been to other Applebee's locations hundreds of times. Generally the food is pretty good and the serving sizes are alright. I'm not one to complain at all. But the fact that this meal had tipped me to the point of downloading yelp just to write this review is quite sad. It was horrid and the poor quality should not go unrecognized because it desperately needs fixing. I've only ordered 2 to-go meals from the Colonial Heights Applebee's ever. Both have been the chicken platter for $12+. So with a meal that costs 12 dollars you should expect to be satisfied right? Wrong. In this case the chicken was super dry. Missing tenders, and the portion of fries was like an infant grabbed a handful and threw it in the box, but missed while half of the fries fell on the floor. Think about that. That's how much fries were in here. (And to think I ordered a double portion). Also, not to mention I ordered a house salad as well, which was even worse. It was like they took only the tomato skin and lightly covered the salad with it. Luckily I had tomato's at home I had cut and put on it. I mean seriously, at any other restaurant I could've gotten enough food to feed the entire continent of Africa for $12. I really hope a manager or somebody that can make an impact at the Applebee's chain sees this and enforces quality for customer satisfaction. Straight trash. Unfortunately, previous Yelp reviews reflect my experience on 9/26/2016. The good: this place is actually cleaner and has a nicer look inside as compared to other restaurants in the area. The bad: the food. I ordered the happy hour baked pretzels. They came out piping hot...but the blue moon cheese was gelatinous and kind of hard. The pretzels were good for the first few bites, but then you notice they are caked with what I presume is garlic salt. A lot of garlic salt. This appetizer could be much improved if the cheese was warmed and address the abundant garlic salt issue. I didn't finish the four pretzels. I opted for the Monday $6.99 any burger special... I ordered the triple bacon and bbq burger...it came out drowning in cheddar cheese....there must have been five slices. When I attempted to pick up the burger all I got was two handfuls of cheese....thank goodness a stack of napkins was close. I promptly scraped off most of the cheese with more fork. By the way, the triple bacon is simply three bacon slices in a crisscross pattern. This burger sounded better in the menu description. Again, could be significantly better with the standard amount of cheese. The nasty: the unlimited French fries. Wow. I have no idea how a restaurant screws up fries, but they certainly achieved that. Two issues here: the fries were caked in a salt/ground pepper combination. A lot. I put salt on everything...so for me to say they were way too salty is saying something. The other issue with the fries...were kind of cold...they weren't ice cold, but not even being close to warm. That's really annoying. Who would eat cold fries? At least I got a large happy hour Miller lite for $3.50. While I was sitting at the bar I noticed the lady next to me order boneless wings 5 minutes after me. They came to her 10 minutes before my pretzels came....so the service was a little slow for me. Her boneless wings looked like the Tyson chicken kind you get in frozen section of the grocery store. She only at 1/3 of them...they didn't look appetizing at all. I would say the food is mediocre at best but has obvious areas for significant improvement. I'm not sure why management does not address these simple, but significant food quality issues.
