Here we go, I hear different ratings of Applebee's. However, I really enjoy Applebee's and their food. I give it a 4 out of 5. This particular location is always crowded no matter what day or time it is. The customer service is pretty good here as well. Sitting time when I arrive is usually 10 minutes the most. Ambiance is OK nothing to really speak about. Its average. In my opinion since they always crowded they should expand. My favorite dish is the penne pasta and the dip. I would give my experience a two star review. I have tried the late night appetizers after 10 PM several times and I have to say a lot of the times the food is very mediocre. I've gotten the boneless wings a few times and they've come out cold. They tasted almost like they were fried earlier in the morning and they have a big batch of them and they were just thrown in sauce and pleated. I've also gotten the ribs and they were hard as a rock. We were super full from all the other appetizers that we ate and didn't realize how bad they were so we didn't say anything, but after thought in consideration, he probably should've sent them back. If you get one of the discounts or drinks, they're not that strong a lot of the times the bartenders will offer to just make you one double instead of getting the buy one get one free drinks because they're so aware of that. The drinks are not strong. I really depends on who you get as your bartender. Some bartenders will make the drinks extremely weak where it taste like you just drinking juice and other bartenders will make your drink stronger and it feels like you're actually getting your moneys worth. I would say if you're just looking for a cheap deal looking to get out of the house and grab a drink with low expectations then definitely go to Applebee's. My only concern is the cleanliness because I've seen one of the girls keep eating with her hands out from the Oreo tray where they make milkshakes on several occasions. Overall, I'm kinda over it. It's an Applebees, it is what it is. I grew up with this location so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, many high school weekends spent getting half off apps with half my class there. And honestly the half off apps are still a steal! When I went there last, we had a great experience except our wait to be seen was about 15 minutes, however once the order was in, food came out super fast. Our table was covered in crumbs and clearly hadn't been wiped down. The silverware and appetizer plates had dried food on them, so we had to ask for replacements, but even the new fork was filthy--you could literally scrape off the grime with a fingernail. I don't remember the date but I came here one Saturday night with my friend. We ate dinner here before going to karaoke in Bohemia. This was one of my last meals as a vegetarian. First, I never thought I'd be leaving a review for Applebee's, never mind a positive review. I have not been to Applebee's in years. Whenever anyone suggests it, I would shoot them down immediately, that's how bad my experiences have been with Applebee's in the past, whether on the Island, Brooklyn, even way back at the Applebee's in Niagara Falls. I'll break my review down to category to keep it short and to the point. ARRIVAL & SEATING This did not go good, but I won't deduct a star for it. We had a party of eight and they immediately made a deal of it. The restaurant was nearly empty and they are talking about 'needing time to put a table together'. Already off to a weird start, no big deal, we waited. I would not classify this as bad, it was just weird. You can tell the staff wasn't used to it? SERVICE Nancy is AMAZING. She only works on Saturday so when we do go, we'll be sure it's on a Saturday, and we'll be sure to take the trip to East Islip. We likely have five Applebee's between our location and East Islip, but Nancy would be worth the trip. FOOD This is the shocking part, the food was amazing. I am not big into fast food or chain restaurants, but we have kids, so it happens here-and-there. Personally, Applebee's blows Texas Roadhouse and TGI Fridays out. That is assuming future visits are consistent with our experience from Saturday the 14th. It's not even close to be honest. I will touch on a few items that I ate, not share the experience of everyone else in our group. All I can say is everyone loved their food, no one complained, it was all positive. 1. Brew Pub Pretzels & Beer Cheese Dip: Concerned because they were not very salty but they were delicious and salty. Please add Nutella to the menu as a dipping option. 2. Chicken Wonton Tacos: Once I read the menu and saw cilantro, I was sold, figured I'd give them a shot. They were delicious. Completely unexpected for Applebee's. That covers the appetizers, this had to be a fluke? 3. Classic Bacon Cheeseburger: Everything from the burger to the bacon was delicious. It wasn't that crappy tasteless bacon that sits on a grill all day long, it was full of flavor, and delicious. The burger itself was amazing. Ever since I discovered smash burgers, I don't do regular burgers anymore, I just lost my taste for them. My burger from Applebee's was smashed, the edges were charred, and super crispy. No, they were not burnt, just to clarify. I asked Nancy if they smash the burgers and she said they normally don't, but they do have the grill for it, and they would upon request, so long as they were not that busy. She said the cook just happened to make mine that way at random. Again, it was amazing. The fries were also crispy and delicious. They were just straight-up golden and crispy, not all greasy, or overly oily. 4. Something I will comment on that I did not order, was some trio deal they had. I think it was boneless wings, crispy shrimp, and ribs? No way would the all-you-can-eat shrimp be good from Applebee's. They were fantastic. I could not stop eating them. Perfectly fried, salty - but not too salty, and the shrimp were just delicious. I am in shock, again. Next up, dessert. We didn't go crazy, just wanted to get something to sing to my dad for his birthday. 5. Cinnabon Mini Swirls: Again, amazing. The cream cheese frosting was delicious. 6. Sizzlin' Butter Pecan Blondie: This was for my dad as his 'cake' for his birthday. I never had a 'blondie' before, I honestly had no clue what it was. It was AMAZING. I can't express how delicious it was and I only took a bite because it wasn't mine. Once he was done, his plate was left with the maple cream cheese sauce and the burnt brownie bottom. I could not stop eating it, I am not kidding. I scraped up every last bit. That's about it. We're going to go back because I am still in shock that Applebee's was this good. Each Applebee's is different. The towns and collages on the walls will be in tune with their location. I enjoy the pick 2 for $20 Specials Applebee's features, I usually upgrade for the small $3 and get the tender baby back ribs. The meal comes with two sides I recommend the mac and cheese and a stuffed baked potato. You also have a choice of getting 2 salads or a single large appetizer to share with your friend. Your choose. I generally always sit at the bar, even to eat. This has been constantly one of my Yelp tips. If you have the option sitting at the bar, this avoids the ridiculous long wait and service is always quick and with a smile. Your server is your barmaid who's right in front of you. I see the long wait for food and service being one of the main yelpers complaints in Many restaurant reviews. This is one of the reasons my visits and reviews usually rate a little higher than other folks. The reason why is I take control and make the occasion or venue fit my needs. This has to be the worst place ever, went in for a table of two was told that it would be 15 mins by two young ladies at the front door, while waiting started to notice some empty tables, I walked around and counted 11 empty tables ???? I never in my life experience the disrespect we received at Applebee's in East Islip. First they tell us the wait is 15 minutes, we waited almost an hour. So a few of my friends and I decided to go to Applebee's to get some food. We walked into the establishment at 10pm and we were greeted by the loveliest of ladies who had a face that pretty much summed up how our night would end... a nightmare. Once seated we waited about 15 before even being approached by anyone. Time now is 10:15 and A tall, slender, long hair and bearded man who resembled Aquaman came from the shadows and handed us our menus. Five minutes goes by it's now 10:20 and he returns but not with The Trident of Poseidon but just a pen and paper to take our orders. Everyone's orders were pretty simple, a couple of burgers, some boneless wings, and I myself asked for a medium rare steak with mashed potatoes. Time now is 10:30 and our drinks are placed in front of us... tick tock tick tock and time is passing, we're talking, we're watching the games displayed in tv, shit even a commercial for Aquaman appears on the screen while we wait for our food. The time now is 11:11 and one friend yells out "11:11 make a wish" and we all had the same wish that night and it was to have our food brought out before the sun would rise over the city of Atlantis once again. Time now is 11:20 and our waiter stops by for the first time in about an hour and say "sorry for the wait guys your food will be out soon.. hopefully" that was very comforting of him to assure us that possibly our food will one day come out. From around the corner behind the shadows at 11:30 we see our food coming and we began to thank Neptune. Everything seemed to be correct but I start cutting into my steak and it's not the way I had wanted my order, my other friend was missing his wings, and well you get the point nothing was really correct. Not waiting to wait another week for them to make our orders over again we sucked it up and just rolled with it for 2 reasons.. 1, we were really hungry, and 2 because we all have work in the morning and didn't have time to wait as long as we did again. Not the best of service today. Had to send my food back, my chicken bowl, the rice and chicken was cold, the server's reaction when I sent the food back was very disappointing. He had apologized but seemed annoyed. Soon later a female manager showed up and questioned me as to what was wrong with my dish, as I tried to explain, she did not listen, but kept interrupted me. After finally supposedly understanding my concern, she returned about 5 minutes later with the same exact dish I sent back, just as cold. I had to gain the server's attention whom was near our booth and didn't even come over to ask if my food was better. I told him my food was still cold, and that I felt it was the original dish I sent back, he again took my plate in annoyance, which now made me very upset. Then after that a male manager came over and tried to explain that the Chicken Bowl I ordered gets cold with the salad, pico de gallo salsa, and the sauce they put on top, this made my blood boil, because I had the same dish on a few other visits and the rice and chicken were hot, which I explained to him, he told me he was going back to the kitchen to personally make sure I get what I want. They finally got it right, but my dinner with my wife and granddaughter was already ruined. I did receive a $10 discount, but I felt the whole meal should have been comped.
