Despite there appearing to be plenty of available tables inside the actual restaurant, she flat-out refused to seat us there and essentially told us we could either sit in the catering room or go somewhere else. No apology, no attempt to accommodate us, and honestly just incredibly dismissive and rude. It was such a bizarre and unwelcoming way to treat first-time guests. The food at least started off strong. The bruschetta and eggplant were both great! For dinner, we had the chicken Milanese and cacio e pepe, and neither was anything special. Our server was nice and the service itself was pretty good so I don't want that to go unnoticed BUT being shoved into an empty catering room and basically told to take it or leave it by the host completely overshadowed the rest of the night. For dessert, I got the cookie sampler which came with 2 of 5 different cookies - chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, sugar, sesame, and chocolate. The cookies were fresh and they came out warm and soft. My favorites in this order are oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, and chocolate. Everyone else got the cheesecake with whip cream or chocolate cake with Ice-Cream. Tonight it was Cantor Talya Smilowitz (Julliard trained, mother, cantor and nightclub singer). Our friends had seen her singing at a Long Island temple. I'm neither an opera nor temple song fan, but Talya was just great! She concentrated mostly on Carol King and Joni Mitchell songs, but threw in some songs from bygone eras, like "Someone to Watch Over Me" (Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin) and other diva ballads of more recent vintage. After I got home, I checked her out on YouTube and she does a great job on Mariah Carey's "I'll Be There." She had a guest Cantor for a few songs, "Melissa Berman," and was accompanied on guitars by Stuart Markus from Gathering time (the act we saw last year) and an electric piano player who seemed to be able to play any song that ever was popular. The food was different in that there were some Indian dish choices, but we enjoyed it. It's nice to be able to have dinner and/or drinks while watching a live show with an audience of maybe eighty. The tickets were $53 each ($20 more than last year). There was no WiFi unless you had a room number, so you had to go outside to get Internet. The atmosphere is much nicer than the original "My Father's Place" (1970s-1980's) and I believe the original owner still runs the show.
