If it isn't the food that's messed up it will be the service. I've come here several times hoping things would be better but each time something is not right. Applebee's currently has a margarita special going on. We went into the Ottawa, KS restaurant on a hot afternoon and thought it sounded good, so I ordered one for the $5.00 special. About 15-20 minutes after I got it I realized it must have only a very tiny bit of alcohol in it. I asked the waitress about it and she got the manager, who did nothing. She basically said that's how they make them. My complaint was my disappointment and also paying $5 for the same as a "soft drink". Why would anyone pay $5 for a soft drink? There was zero difference. As I remember a few years ago they had the same special and I had the same complaint. If you are wanting to unwind or chill DON'T fall for the advertised special. I think I have only had 1 bad experience in the 7 years that I have been going to this resturant! And that was because it was the day of a KU football game and they were packed. It seems whenever the kitchen gets busy their food suffers. They have forgotten the chicken on a chicken salad multiple times but are alwasy quick to get back with it. They don't ever seem to clear off used glasses unless you hand it to them. Which is fine unless you have a table of 4 or more; then it gets a little much. The bar is a great place to sit if they are busy but be careful because there isn't much of a waiting area so the overflow of people waiting tends to go into the bar. All of the servers here are great but I have a few issues with the host people. They are not trained at all and are very rude. I have had a host tell me the wait would be 10 minutes, I said alright and sat down. She never took my name and completly ignored me when I asked if she wanted it. 20 minutes later, she finally walks up to us, says 'I'm ready for you' and starts to walk away. Who honestly does that?! She took great care of us despite being by herself and taking care of a large area on her own. Got 2 orders wrong and then there was supposed to knock off the price of two orders I was still got charged $69 and some odd sense got a food late got our drinks late didn't give us napkins and everybody was rude to it except John I believe it's the manager and our waitress. After a day of storm chasing and heading back to the city, we decided it was time to stop and fuel ourselves. Pulling off the exit our choices were fast food, a steak buffet, and Applebees. We all agreed it was really a no brainer at this choice and headed to Applebees. I do not often eat at the nationwide barfood chains because everything just tastes the same and there is no originality. I ordered a sandwich with roast beef, bacon, mushroom minus the onion. The sandwich was overly salty. Normally I would complain about a lack of seasoning, but you need the super size beer to wash this one down! (Not to mention I went through about a quart of water when I got home along with about a 16 ounce bottle on the way home!) The concept sounded delicious, the bacon was barely noticeable, the mushrooms were over cooked, and the cheese was barely existent. There was a decent amount of roast beef, but this seemed to be the culprit where the extreme salt was coming from. The mushrooms are supposed to be sauteed in red wine, but if so, there is no distinguishable flavor. The worse part of the sandwich, yes it gets worse, the was no condiment on it. A little horseradish, maybe a garlic aoili, au jus for dipping would have been perfect, or just plain mayo would have elevated the sandwich. I am not sure who thought it would be a good idea to serve a sandwich on toasted bread without a condiment, but corporate needs a new chef. The accompanying fries were ok. I prefer a crisper outside, but they satisfied. I was really wishing I would have asked for a side of cottage cheese to cut through the salty sandwich, but that was my fault. The server was fantastic. Extremely friendly. Great with making a few suggestions. She definitely made the experience tolerable, along with the huge PBR. Overall, considering our choices, I am convinced this was our best choice still. The selection wasn't the greatest, my dining buddies liked their burgers, but they are also fans of Applebees overall. read more

Would have been a pretty good night and dinner except that a member of the staff decided to complain about the people that were still there aka our party of 3 close to 15 minutes before closing within earshot. The servers were running around probably went by us 20 times and we waited for about 10 mins and still weren't even noticed completely ignored! Finally asked them if we could get some service. We are visiting Kansas and stopped in here, it's your typical AppleBee's food.. It was good! Service was great, my complaints was my steamed broccoli wasn't steamed at all.. Having worked at this Applebee's for 5 years in my past I would have to say that they have good food. They might get backed up in the kitchen if its a busy night but the food is usually good and the managers will take care of you if there is a problem. It is unfortunately one of the only "nice" places to eat at in Ottawa so it can get backed up on some busy weekends (car show) and holidays. read more

The waitstaff was very friendly. My partner and mom enjoyed the ribs and buffalo wings. The cajun shrimp pasta was very spicy! Unfortunately, there were NO vegetarian options on the menu. This restaurant does not serve the Veggie Patch Pizza. We waited awhile for our take-out food and when we finally received it, it was a bit cold. This is probably our favorite Applebee's location. We dine at the Emporia, Topeka and Olathe locations as well from time to time. We always feel like we get good food and good service at the Ottawa location...I can't say that about the other locations. I am sure that Applebees strives to have consistency with their restaurants but this one definitely outshines the others. read more

Great service dog experience. Traveling you never know what service dog access issues you might run into. Like our home Applebee's there wasn't a single issue from the time we walked in. This was the first Applebee's outside our home one that we've eaten at. It look's like Applebee's corporate has it training right. read more
