We went to Applebee's for Thanksgiving Lunch and after discovering there were only a handful of meals we could order (nothing under $14.99) we decided to have the turkey dinner. The turkey was (3) 1/8" thick round slices that looks like lunch meat that came from Oscar Mayer. The green beans were tough and soggy with no flavor. The dressing was dry and the mashed potatoes were kind of salty. The best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes and gravy. No roll with butter either. There was just enough food to feed a small child. All of this for $16.99. If this is Applebee's idea of a value packed dinner, we will never go back again. I would not recommend eating there. read more

The food and drinks were absolutely terrible. We actually asked our waitress to take it off the bill, charge us for our drinks and we checked out. If I was smart I would have taken photos for my review, but I have to post this to save you all from walking into this Applebees. We waited for over 4( minutes then got a rib eye that looked like a birth hamburger patty. My child ordered a quesadilla and they brought an adult quesadilla. This experience here was horrible, the server was flat out rude. she didn't try to upsell any items, didn't say anything about speciality drinks, felt very rush when giving drink order that i had to quickly decide on what to eat instead of taking my time to figure it out. moving forward to the food quality... TRASH. My pretzels were burnt, my chicken quesadillas had two tiny pieces of chicken per piece, and they forgot half of my chicken tenders for my chicken tender platter. Also Messed up the wing sauce for my wings. The kids cup wasn't even a kids cup instead it was just a normal cup which my kid spilt. Just purchased dinner here at 400 Old Franklin Tpke., Rocky Mount Va. 24151 and ordered fish and chips. The fish was burned to the point where the inside was hard, and the fries were cold, could not eat it, ordered it curb side, the waitress was awesome, but when I called to complain they were real nice about it and asked me to come back for replacement food. Got there and told them both mine and my husbands was not edible, overheard the cook in the back comment, "if they didn't want it cooked why did they order it", got the new order and found it under cooked. Working out of town to restore power for the community in the area on Christmas day. Was excited to see Applebee's open. Stop in, I never get seated after standing 15 minutes at door. Customer nicely tells me they are ignoring people and she to sit herself. We find a seat and still no service. Manager in grey shirt sees us, still no service. Set at tables for 15 minutes before leaving. Completely ignored. 10 out of 10 would not recommend going to this location. read more

The only reason I'm going with one star is because zero stars isn't an option. There are zero options in Rocky Mount, so I met a friend here for drinks to watch football. We ordered nachos and shortly after arriving a STINK BUG crawled out from under our food and onto the bar. I was completely disgusted. I will never go back. When I pointed it out to the bartender she said "Oh oops" and picked it up with a napkin and threw it in the trash. Yes, it crawled out of the trash can and back onto the bar about 5 minutes later. The service at the restaurant was really slow and it took probably 10+ minutes before we had a server even come to our table despite there not being many patrons in the restaurant (probably a sign). The food was not terrible, however it did take a long time. Food's okay, ordered small steak that was a little tough and served with a bit of A-1 sauce on the side. But the garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli were both good. They specialize in super sweet cocktails, my dining partner had a big blue drink that was super sweet. I ordered a rye whiskey Manhattan straight up. The waitress came back and told me they didn't have any rye whiskey. Then the waitress came back to tell me they didn't have any Manhattans. I asked that the bartender just put two shots of bourbon, one shot of sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters. The waitress then came back and said they didn't have any vermouth or bitters, and asked what bourbon I'd like, I said Maker's Mark. Several minutes later the waitress brought me a Maker's Mark on the rocks. When my steak was delivered, I asked for a glass of Cabernet. Was served Applebees only Cabernet, Sutter Home. Which was like watered down wine...you could almost see through the wine (?) in the glass. How could any self respecting restaurant serve the absolute cheapest wine on the market? Because they could buy it former $3 a bottle and sell it to their customers for $6 a glass? read more

I've been a patron of this particular Applebee's location for many years, more than a decade, in fact. The visits I've made have all been at lunchtime, and were all decent meals. Tonight, however, was an exception. In truth, had tonight been my first trip to Applebee's, it would've been my last. Let me explain my frustration. Firstly, I ordered the specialty Long Island Iced Tea cocktail, which is advertised on the cocktail menu as being served in the "Mucho Glass," ultimately meaning the large, thick-walled heavy margarita glass. When Kimberly brought my cocktail, it was unremarkably poured into a plain old highball glass, nothing special. I remarked to her that it was supposed to have been served in the "Mucho Glass," and even pointed it out to her on the cocktail menu, which she read and confirmed. She did not apologize, nor did she offer to bring the correct size drink. My husband ordered a beer, PBR, which was brought in a mug. Our food order was taken, and I carefully emphasized "no bun" for my burger, as I have a gluten sensitivity. My husband ordered a salad and some wings. Our food arrived, and I was unsurprised that my burger arrived on a bun, despite my specific request for no bun. Kimberly took it back to have it remade. My husband's food was acceptable, although not over-the-top. He ordered another beer, which sadly, did not arrive until the completion of his meal. My burger arrived again, fresh and with the condiments and lettuce, tomato, and onion. The French fries, however, were cold. Ice cold, in fact, and no doubt they had sat upon my plate as my bunless burger was being made. I ordered another Long Island Iced Tea, specifically requesting the "Mucho Glass," in the hopes that alcohol would dampen my ire over tonight's repast. It didn't. My drink came, as did my husband's beer. We finished our drinks, I ate my burger, and left the disgustingly cold French fries. Kimberly came with the check, stating that she had taken $5 off for the trouble. No apologies, still. I was hoping for a manager to happen by, particularly since one probably had to approve the $5 off. No such luck. Well, actually, one did walk by, she just chose not to stop. All things told, I can completely understand why Applebee's is suffering in the restaurant industry. Restaurants with this "quality" of food and service do not deserve to prosper. We shan't return to this location, and most likely will never patronize another Applebee's, unless restaurant choices are REALLY scarce. read more

Can I give this a negative rating? It was literally horrible. Saturday lunch time, no wait, almost empty, and yet we still waited forever for our food. When it came, there was a hair on a plate and they took it, went around a corner and came back so fast we all knew it was the same plate with just the hair removed.. thanks? I think we could have done that ourselves? First glass of tea was good but the second was gross. All of the food was cold. My tacos were soggy. All the chips were stale. So gross. Waitress "I hope it's better next time." In my mind "there will not be a next time." Best Applebee's I have been to!! I came here on a date and my girl and I got great service and food! I've been to other Applebee's restaurants in Roanoke and none are near as good as this location. It's a little pricey but you definitely get more of what you pay for at this location. read more

The server wasn't mean or rude but food was gross and cold. The payment system had me swipe my card several times and wasn't working properly. I hope I only end up paying for this crap once. Bathroom was dirty and it was before 3 so I can't imaging why. They were not busy at all, only a few tables. read more

I find that Applebee's is better when I go in for lunch with very little expectations. The service is usually pretty good, but I'm constantly disappointed by the food. The quesadilla burger is the only thing I can count on to be enjoyable every time. I think it's time for FC to give up on this one and maybe trade it for a Famous Anthony's. read more

We have always had issues with this Applebee's being slow but tonight was awful!! The waitress didn't greet us at all, just walks up and says what do you want to drink. Took a long time for her to come back for our order. She didn't tell us about correct price of changing a side. As usual the meal took a long time to come but was hot and tasted good except for our medium steak that came well done with no flavor. The original waitress must have left because other servers brought our food and we never saw her again. The bill was wrong and using 'call server' button didn't create a response. We travel a lot and have eaten at many Applebee's in a lot of different cities. This one is unlike any we have ever been to. It is dirty and the ceiling is falling down. You never know, what to expect with the food and mixed drinks. Anyone can see that new management is badly needed. Hate that we can no longer get near that place. Small town, with too few places to eat. We do travel to the nearby cities, and still eat at their Applebee's. Noticed the parking lot was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon. This is by far one of the worst places we've ever eaten. If there was a 0 star rating available I would use it. We stopped here for dinner on our way to NC. Had I known the food was so bad I would have kept on driving. The food was so salty it was inedible. When we told the waitress she shrugged her shoulders and oh and walked away. Other places would have made an attempt to remedy it. She brought us the check. We asked for a manager and she said he wasn't available. This was the nastiest place I've ever walked in to. We went in at about 9:45 pm Friday night. The guy at the door just said "I think there's something around the bar". The floor was disgusting, the bar was so dirty I wouldn't have eaten anywhere near it. There were stacks of dirty dishes and empty beer mugs all over, the bar was stick and gross. The smell was horrible. We were going to just go in for a beer but the bartender never even acknowledged us after sitting there for almost 10 minutes we walked out. It's not awful as in being fowl but it is very bland, it makes you regret not staying home and making better food. Im not one to eat at a chain restaurant for a date so the atmosphere was a little too dull but the servers were good. The manager is very rude. We waited for our food for 20 minutes and the restaurant was empty. When we got our food it was cold and not cooked all the way. My fiancé got pasta that wasn't even cooked so we asked for new pasta. Manager got sassy when she brought out the new pasta and told him "check your pasta and make sure it's good enough for you". They didn't even give us a discount for messing up our food so bad. The people next to us also got mad because their order was also wrong. Would NOT recommend!!! read more

This was our 3 attempt in a year to try this place each time we had different items off menu and each time my girlfriend and I were sick all night long. We will not be returning for any food from here again. Service was attentive and prompt however they still have not cleaned the hvac ducts in dining room since our last visit. We were going out on a Sunday for my moms birthday so with Ippys closed and several others we had little choice but settled on Applebees. We got seated quickly and got our drinks quickly when we first sat down . We started with the nachos as an appetizer and it came with hardly enough toppings but for the few chips the toppings came on, big waste of money! Then we had all 3 ordered the chicken and shrimp plate that came with potatoes and onions and mushrooms. My moms and sisters came and the meal is served on a hot plate kinda like if we're to order fajitas at the Mexican place. Well I guess maybe the waitress was late picking their plates up and the onions and all of about 3 mushrooms in the bottom of the chicken were burned and I mean completely burned . Well my plate didn't come with theirs and as a matter of fact they had already ask for more onions and mushrooms to replace the burned ones and then proceeded to eat and were about half finished when my plate arrived. I had ask for extra mushrooms when I placed my order but I had the same as theirs which was 3 mushrooms under my chicken so I told the waitress which had been given a big party by then and did eventually get some extras, also over cooked ! Not completely burned but way over cooked ! We sat there without refills on our drinks until someone else came by and offered us some and we eventually got drink refills as we were finished with our meal. It was moms birthday which we told them but hey they don't do anything for birthdays either but did bring a very small ice cream shooter for her and the one who brought it did say happy birthday. We were never offered anything for my meal being so late or the food being burned like most good restaurants would offer to take your appetizer off or something, nothing!! Plus they had charged me for my extra mushrooms although I didn't get them with my meal and as I said by the time I did get some brought out they were to over cooked to enjoy. All I can say is I have been here several times and there is so much inconsistency in the kitchen and the service is very subpar! If you have a choice to go somewhere else I would definitely choose elsewhere! You will regret going and leave not satisfied at all with the food or service you receive ! read more

Over the years I've been to good Applebee's, bad Applebee's, and okay Applebee's. I'd put this one in the "Okay Applebee's". The food was pretty good, the service was ok for the most part, they messed up on one order but fixed it right away. If you are going to eat just to get out of the house or on a road trip this would be an ok place to eat. read more

Absolutely terrible service! I ordered food online and told them I'd be there to pick it up 2 hours later. After I arrived I had to wait another hour for my food and then they told me I couldn't pay with my card after everything was done. They showed me my order when I got there and then the manager came out after and told me that they never received my order, so he lied to my face. I left and then I called to complain and then they said the card reader was working so I went to get my food. I looked at my food and everything looked absolutely terrible. Took my son out after being recognized for an award at the high school. Service was extremely slow and the place was nearly empty. Dinner came and my food was wrong (over cooked, wrong side). So I told him just bring me a cheeseburger because making another steak with the right sides would take too long. My kids and wife ate very slow!!!! My food came as all five of my other family members were finished. Then the hamburger bun was so hard and chewy I couldn't eat it! No manager no apologies and no correction to our bill! read more

This has been one of the worst experiences I have ever had at an Applebee's. The waiter took 7 minutes to come get our drink order. When she finally brought my tables out drinks she put the drinks on the table and walked away. 13 minutes after me calling the restaurant she finally came to take the order. Once we received our order the food was cold so we send it back and they put it In the microwave. Once she brings the food back she did not say anything but walked away with an attitude. The waitress was literally sitting at an table with friends talking. I'm very disappointed due to myself working at a different Applebee's for 6 and a half months. read more
