My Wife and I stopped here while on the road. I usually have low expectations, but they pleasantly surprised me with excellent service and good food. We got the chips and queso to start and the chips were nice and brown and the queso was loaded with tomatoes, peppers, and was nice and warm without being burnt. My Wife got the oriental chicken wrap. It came with chicken tenders, cabbage, and an Asian sauce that was sweet. The food came out looking good and the chicken was flavorful. I got a standard bacon cheeseburger. The burger was cooked nicely and was really juicy. I went with a side of fries. My experience at Applebee's usually involves the fries being heavily salted, but the fries came out seasoned nicely. We both finished with a Brownie Bite. The brownie was served nice and warm and had chocolate chips that were tasty. They also serve it with a small bit of vanilla ice cream. Lastly, Sarah was our server. She was friendly, gave us refills before we finished our drinks, checked in often, and was just generally pleasant. Im assuming Sarah is a manager, or she absolutely should be if she isn't. First off I go in asking about the promotional menu and deals from their website, just for the lady at the front to tell me they don't have the promotions on what I asked for anymore... long story short I paid an extra 5-10 bucks for wings I didn't even want, as I looked on website and saw a burger on discount before I went in.... Just for the waitress to egotistically hand me the PROMOTIONAL MENU I asked from the start for and apologized, but did not offer any sort of discount off our bill, NO COUPON, nothing..... Also had to pay wayyyy more for a drink bc they didn't hand me the menu with the promotional alcoholic beverages on it. I should have probably talked to the manager but after that I was just infuriated and stormed out the door before I said something nasty.... Our waitress was very nice. No issues with her at all. Our daughter was given shrimp cocktail sauce with her mozzarella sticks and then my wife found shrimp inside her oriental chicken salad. Luckily, she doesn't have a food allergy but there were several pieces of shrimp instead of chicken. When we brought it up, our waitress immediately apologized and offered free dessert. The thing that bothered us the most was that we saw our waitress speak to the manager and she couldn't be bothered to even come over to speak with us. She passed our table multiple times after the complaint and wouldn't stop. It should not have been put on the shoulders of the waitress who didn't do anything wrong. Overall it just feels old and outdated. The restrooms didn't have working hot water. The urinal didn't flush. There's an un-ironic sign of the cast of Friends drinking milkshakes as you enter the restroom. The walls are plastered in generic labeled sports images ("basketball!" Personally, I am not a fan of this place. I was very disappointed with the way my meal turned out. I've been here before and ordered the same meal. I had the Four Cheese Mac + Cheese w/ Honey Pepper Chicken Tenders and this time it was very watery. Last time it tasted a little bit better, but still wasn't the best. I've never been a huge fan of Applebee's but this was the only place my parents could agree on for a late dinner. Now, to their credit, MY meal was absolutely fantastic- I ordered the Cedar Grilled Salmon with Garlicy Green Beans and 4-cheese Mac 'N Cheese and it was really quite good... The salmon was a perfect mid-rare, the green beans were al dente, and the mac 'n cheese was indulgent! BUT, on the flip-side, my mom's steak was under-cooked the first time and, after alerting the waitress, came back in exactly the same shape the second time. So, while I commend them for starting over with a new cut of meat (instead of throwing the original steak back on the grill), it's obvious that whomever was on the meat station should either be fired or left to only deal with sides. In addition, they offer a margarita special on Tuesdays but there's barely ANY alcohol in them! I don't typically drink when I'm out with my parents but we'd had a long and arduous day, so I ordered one and it came out tasting only of margarita mix... To which the waitress replied that the "special" only accounted for a single 1 ounce shot! LOL! In the end, I did pay extra to get a full shot added in so-- word to the wise: if you absolutely HAVE to eat here (which I don't recommend) and find yourself in the mood for a margarita, DO NOT order the special, as it's a waste of money! In the future, I'll take the time to cook steak and salmon for my parents at home, make my own margarita, and save myself a lot of hassle and disappointment. read more

THE WORST APPLEBEE'S IVE EVER BEEN TO. We wanted to order the two for 20 but they were all out of the Shrimp dinner. Then they wouldn't let me sub that plate with the Fish n Chips (same price) for whatever stupid reason. Next they brought me out a Chicken Parmesan that had chicken strips, not chicken breast and the pasta was old as dirt. My wife ordered the steak dinner which surprise, surprise was over cooked! She also had onion rings as one and of her sides and they tasted like they were fried rubber bands. Probably because they were reheated in old frying grease. Her baked potato was undercooked too! I have always been a fan of Applebee's and decided to try out this location since my friend and I were visiting the area. The host sat us down in quick manner. Our server was pleasant and completed our order as we requested. My friend enjoyed her pasta entree while I enjoyed my cheeseburger. The overall experience was just right for what a restaurant should provide. If in the Wytheville, VA-area, I would suggest check out this location. Let's be honest, you're not reading Yelp because you decided to go to Applebee's. You're going there because you don't have much choice; you're hangry and your spirit is broken, period! My service was on the poor side of average. My server/bartender was upset about something and it seemed that she didn't want to be there. Everything seemed slower from bringing a drink to not bringing me silverware. The food though pissed me off. Ordered the sampler; mozz sticks, wings and artichoke/spinach dip. All 3 were cool, though the dip was the warmest. I think the cheese created a blanket of warmth and the plate sat for a few minutes before it came to me. Hot food, hot, cold food, cold.
