Look, patron, it's Applebee's Grill + Bar, and so you might be tempted to call my bluff on these four stars I'm giving it, but that would be to disregard my experience at this particular establishment - one of many to be sure - and my experience here was great. Located on the main drag through Joshua Tree (the town, not the park), you'll benefit from the high vibration of the high desert. Even McDonalds tastes better up there. I'll stick to the high desert Applebee's experience though for this review. The restaurant was lightly occupied which gave the impression that a cool draft was passing through it and that the music was a bit louder than it actually was. They played some generic country and rock and perhaps another genre besides those that went unnoticed despite the perceived volume. I guess sometimes I just want the generic experience. Too much control and focus can lead to hysteria, and sometimes I just need to drop the pretense and head into Applebee's for a smoke and a pancake. This time I had the fiesta lime chicken and my hungry-mungry, pregnant partner went for the classic cheeseburger. Both were delicious, in an Italian dressing kind of way. What's wrong with a little saturated fat and high fructose corn syrup? I'll tell you what, there was a server in there who's Chotchkies flair was positively infectious. Just to look upon her tiny smiling self was to shed a bit of life's malaise. I ordered a house margarita too, our server brought me the whole Boston shaker, boy, you-doggie (the marg was way too sweet, but again, go in prepared for the generic experience and you'll be fine). Anyways, do you ever crave the desert air, the muted landscape, the ancient and immovable peace of the Dead Sea scrolls in their eternal resting place, having never been found or unearthed? Have you ever wondered how it would be if Pliny the Elder had never been, if sleeping dogs were truly left to lie, consistently? Team and carside service are always great. HOWEVER. . . I ordered a whole rack of their "Double- Glazed Baby Back Ribs are slow- cooked for that fall-off-the-bone perfection." The meat was extremely dry and I had to use a steak knife to cut each rib apart; I won't go into details about how challenging it was to eat them off of the rib. I've NEVER had ribs this dried out, so disappointed. I also ordered boneless wings, assuming that they were chicken, but I have no idea what the meat was! It didn't have the texture of any kind of meat I've ever eaten - I spat it out after I chewed it a couple of times. Needless to say, this was the BIGGEST waste of a $45 pickup order for food EVER. Food was great, service was super efficient (most impressive was that she took our 3 orders without a notepad and everything was exactly correct and two people brought out our 3 orders relatively quickly and everything was exactly as ordered. Reason for a 1 star instead of 5-star: We go here every 2-3 weeks when we come up to our property at JT. We have a doggie so eat outside [still nice tables and great service]. HOWEVER: their heat lamps outside have been broken forever! When weather first turned cold last fall [and every time we've gone thru the winter and including last night], we request to turn on the overhead heat lamps. They say "oh they just broke, but we have a work order filed and they will be fixed next time you come". We're very displeased that they train all their wait-staff to lie thru their teeth. If the wait staff would just say "The heat lamps have been broken forever and the mgmt doesn't want to spend a dime towards fixes, so wear a warmer hoodie coat when you come next time" we would at least appreciate the honesty, dress warmer, and know what we're in for. Great food and service, but it is a shame that mgmt instructs the wait-staff to lie to good (and quite frequent) customers. We've eaten all over JT and YV and this Applebee's is definitely our favorite for the food and the margaritas ... but it is a dis-pleaser they're not willing to spend a few Watts to warm their outside tables, and us doggie-lovers have to sit there shivering with 10 lbs of goosebumps. read more

The food was decent. The restaurant was clean. The server Joseph, that's a different story. I ordered coffee and he brought me coffee in a Styrofoam cup. When I told him that I wasn't going to drink out of a Styrofoam cup he took it back and he acted upset. Once our order was ready it was delivered to our table by other servers, not by him. He never checked on our table, not once, he only came to our table when we flagged him and ask him to remove the coffee from our bill. In many ways, this Applebees met my realistic expectations of what it should. People who come to Applebees hoping for filet minon medium rare and fresh vegetables are why this establishment has a lower rating. It is Applebees neighborhood bar and grill- I don't understand how you could be so horrified not to find perfectly salted food... It is a glorified dinner. Cheap appetizers, greasy food that makes you love life in the moment, but regret it shortly after is what I expected. That is precisely what I got! My wife said the soup was cold and my cheeseburger had definitely been sitting as I couldn't get the bun off because the cheese hardened. First, let me say that I haven't ordered the Asian Chicken Salad for years. Several years ago a co-worker and I used to go to Applebee's and we'd split the Asian Chicken salad for lunch. It was a big salad. It has changed fundamentally. It's simply not the same salad. It was small, icky and cheaply made. It was repulsive and an utter waste of money. There were little dried nuggets of desiccated chicken sprinkled on the salad. The dressing was thick and so sweet it tasted like it was basically corn syrup. It was aweful. My friend got the Crispy Chicken Salad and her Chicken was also dry and inedible. My wife and I always dine at this Applebees when we go to our vacation home in Joshua Tree. They are generous with their perfect margaritas and the food is great! Went in on Tuesday night and watched the hostess in the bar area, Tudor a little girl. The hostess with the blonde ponytail and her side kick with the dark curly hair in his eyes, tried to help. Now, granted the little girl was with her mom sitting at the bar with friends, this little girl struggled doing her homework while the hostess tried excitingly to help her. While the tables in the bar were filled with dishes and tables needing to be wiped off. Perhaps she needed to clock out to help this child. People came in and she sat at the table with the little girl. Sad, this is a restaurant which lacks leadership. The manager in the bar area is useless and never goes around to the tables. I took a few friends to Applebees in Yucca Valley last night and we had a great time. The restaurant was welcoming, clean and on top of everything. The manager Tim and server were very helpful, professional and engaged. Our food was prepared to perfection and nicely presented. This is our 3rd visit in the last 6 months and I have found the staff delightful and the atmosphere inviting and comfortable. Pretty average results, but we expect lower honestly. The food was what we expected from Applebee's. The staff seemed like they had better things to do, service with a smile was hard to find. Short version: Don't bother. Small portions and lackluster customer service. Long version: I have been to this Applebee's several times and I never feel like I get my money's worth. The BF likes it but after this last visit, I asked him if we could please never go there again. When we got there on Tuesday, August 13 at around 7pm there were no clean tables. They weren't that busy but, no big, I don't mind waiting for a booth. We were seated and the waitress came over a couple of minutes later, handed us menus and took our drink orders. They didn't have anything to drink that was caffeine-free/sugar free so I ordered a water. When it arrived there was no lemon on the rim, so I asked for some lemon. The waitress brought me a little cup of wedges and when I took a piece of lemon out, it was brown and pretty gross-looking. I asked for another cup and showed her the gross piece, when she returned it was with the same lemon slices with the one gross piece taken out. It makes me mad when people treat me like I'm stupid. When my cheeseburger showed up, it was tasteless and disappointing. I didn't bother eating it. I left a crappy tip for the crappy service and food and permanently crossed that place off my list of places to eat. read more

The kitchen woman who had blonde hair, older and the to go orders wasn't wearing gloves while preparing food. I was on the phone sitting waiting ( I was the one in striped clothes ) and I took a video of her touching my salad with her bare hands and other peoples food. I confronted her and she lied and said she was just "putting salad dressing on it". Please check the cameras because that is NOT true. First of all, you put dressing on the sides in little cups for your to- go orders . After I confronted her, she put on gloves and made a new salad. I am sending the video to the health department in California and I am insisting they check camera footage. I also want to sue. This is not a small thing. I take the food industry seriously. -Also, I talked to the people up front about it and the young blonde woman made fun and rolled her eyes as I walked out. - again, check cameras. Health standards in ANY state say you need to wear gloves while making and preparing food. And second, with COVID going around and germs staying on your hands and other surfaces, I would have thought this would have been a serious situation. I did call a manager and she said she would" handle it". But I'm ensuring it does get handled. This isn't okay. It's a food buisness it's not your own kitchen at home. This video footage will go to the health department. Check your cameras. Don't let her lie. It's one of those things that you go to restaurants and wonder if the food is being handled with care, but you aren't sure and are to afraid to ask... and so now just know that the Applebees in yucca doesn't wear gloves while preparing food, the make fun of customers complaints and they don't take your concerns into consideration, and the managers don't take your complaints serious. I was visiting my mom in 29 Palms. I live in the L.A. area. We spent the day in Yucca Valley doing some shopping and decided to have a late lunch/early dinner. It was about 2:30-3:00pm....the place was not very busy at all. We were seated quickly and Sherri was our waitress. We selected our food quickly. I had a cup of French onion soup. Not the greatest. The cheese on top was super rubbery...almost like chewing gum. I ordered the Four Cheese Mac + Cheese with Honey Pepper Chicken Tenders and my mom ordered the shrimp/rice bowl thing....had avocado, some pico de Gallo, tortilla strips etc. We both had just water. The food came out fairly quickly and Sherri asked us if we needed anything else....for which my mom asked if she could have a side of salsa to add to the dish she ordered (she likes spice and flavor). Sherri said ok....and that was the last we saw of her for our entire meal. My meal was ok although not sure where the pepper flavor was on my chicken...it tasked ok but mostly of honey. My mom never received her salsa. I watched Sherri move from table to table all around us, taking orders and checking in with everyone but us. It really wasn't that busy. I drank all of my water and she never came to offer a refill. I ate half my meal and we had stacked our other empty plates....a clear indication we were done. She never came by to ask if I wanted a box, if we wanted refills or dessert. After about 15-20 minutes of being done, she finally came by and was super short with us..."you want a box?"....while clearing the dishes. I told her yes, and the check. When she came back, she just dropped the check on the table and said "you can pay me when ready" and walked off. When she brought the container back, she said it again, "you can pay me when ready". Really? I heard you the first time....we paid the check and left. Sherri really had no smile or genuine service skills and I'm not sure why she chose to ignore us. But she needs some added training.
