After a day of hiking in Joshua Tree National Park, we were looking for a light lunch, and found The Cactus in Twentynine Palms. The restaurant is quite large and has a pool table. The bar area is in the front and dining in the back. Since we were here in the middle of the afternoon during the week, there was no one in the back, a few seats were taken at the bar, so we grabbed a high top table in the bar area, ordered drinks and checked out the appetizers. I went with mac and cheese, and Mr. B had the shrimp quesadilla. My bowl of mac and cheese was the perfect size for a light lunch. The pasta was cooked well, and there was plenty of gooey cheese, it really hit the spot. The shrimp quesadilla was large, stuffed with shrimp and he loved every bite. Service was good, parking in the back was easy and the place is cool.

He'd owned another restaurant that he had to close during the pandemic and brought the customer favorites from the old menu to his new bar. All the food we had was fresh, filling, and tasty. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!

So we came out of the park looking for a little late lunch and found this unexpected surprise. They have a really interesting Middle Eastern menu. We had the euros, which was delicious though it's not really homemade meat, but it still was fantastic. They have Coke products which if you read, my reviews is important to me. The fries were a very generous portion that you can split And well seasoned. Great beer, selection, and liquor. Wow. Why am I having the best Cobb salad I've ever had at a bar in 29 palms!!!! On our way into Joshua tree we decided to make a lunch stop here and it's been the absolute height of our trip. When we stopped by at around 1 on a Saturday and the place is alive with regulars. It was a pleasure chatting with patrons and waiting on our food. The food is the absolutely highlight. We ordered a Cobb salad, quesadillas, chili fries, and brisket. The serving size is large and colossal. The server actually told us no one ever finishes these giant portion sizes. The food is so tasty too. Fresh ingredients cooked to absolute perfection. We are only passing through town but it gave us glimpse into what this place is and means to the community. I feel so lucky to have stopped by. It gave us a delicious (and super filling and reasonably priced) meal and a great sense of how great the locals are here. Dog friendly too! We got our pup a plate of grilled chicken with no seasoning and he loved it of course! :)

Thank heavens for the late night kitchen at this hoppin spot! Needed dinner with a late arrival time and was excited to find some healthy, fresh options. Even cooler is that this was def a hot spot bar/dance spot with fresh food options. Called about an hour before picking up and spoke to a really lovely gal on the phone. When I arrived it took about 5 mins to pay and get the food so that's how you know it was fresh. Price point was good for a salad and it was chalk full of yummy extras like beets, olives and a generous portion of chicken. Don't hesitate to pop in anytime but especially if you need dinner @ midnight!

My colleague and I were working in town for the week and went here twice. The food is excellent, the drinks were on point, [[HIGHLIGHT]]dining area and bar very clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] and staff were inviting and very attentive! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They also have two pool tables so you can school your boys.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Awesome bar and grill. A+++++.

Not sure I would have gone in if my husband wasn't with me. But we enjoyed the Brisket Quesadilla. It was simple comfort food, freshly prepared, very cheesy and came with generous servings of salsa and sour cream. Came here twice. Very friendly we had excellent super meaty super Smokey baby back ribs, some of he best Mac and cheese we've ever had, very good plan chops. Good gyros. Just paid $14 for a Tanqueray & Tonic. The Tonic water is sold separately. Don't come here unless you want to get hosed. Service is great as a side note. Drinks are a complete rip off. Who charges separately for the mixer in your drink? Well the Cactus does. One and done for me. read more

Andy was a wonderful host. Super friendly and a great chef. I had the lamb shank and it was excellent. The rice was perfectly cooked and all the food was made with care. My sister's Mac n cheese with brisket was delicious. The husband's gyro platter was equally excellent. Andy goes the extra step to make sure his food is delicious. This place was a change in plans, after the wait at the Cactus Trails Diner was an hour for lunch. And man - am I glad we ended up here. The menu is a little bit eclectic, with a lot of Greek food, bar bites, and quesadillas. We ordered the side of fries, the Caesar salad with chicken, and the brisket quesadilla. The food quality was epic. The brisket in the quesadilla was so tender, and the tortilla was gourmet. The Caesar salad came topped with chicken Shawarma - a nice surprise, and very tasty. The fries were the best part, very crispy, with excellent seasoning, and delicious side of homemade ranch. Our server was kind and attentive. All in all, a great place to stop and eat before heading into Joshua Tree National Park. read more

The cactus is a great place to grab a drink & bite to eat. Parking was easy, great little plaza with other stores, so plenty of spaces. The food was great, tried the salmon plate, Tri tip kabob, and chili cheese fries. All were incredible. The prices were on the higher side, debating on getting the nachos but they were $20. Drinks were great as well. Had a draft mission brewery hazy IPA & my partner had the skittles cocktail, she loved it. Will be back. read more

Was camping at Joshua Tree, and looking for a place to watch NBA playoff game with my bud. The Cactus was empty when we arrived. Bth the owner and staff member had to struggle to get the big screen to work with sound. They persisted tirelessly, and finally got the game on just in time! We were so grateful for this....BUT.......the owner recommended the brisket sandwich, and holy cow! Maybe the BEST brisket I ever had! Homemade and absolutely killer. Tucked away off Victor Street in Barstow, this was a fun find while driving back to Los Angeles from Vegas over Memorial Day weekend. Big props to Haley M., who was basically running a one-woman show and somehow kept the entire place moving with a great attitude and solid service. That alone made the stop memorable. The location has a cool, laid-back vibe with plenty to keep people entertained while grabbing food and drinks. They've got two billiards tables, a dart board, and all kinds of classic bar games, board games, and card games, including UNO, which is a family favorite. They also have several televisions. The food was all good too. I really enjoyed the Green Chili Burger, and everyone else in my party seemed genuinely happy with their meals as well. I felt they were trying to nickel and dime when I got the bill, i was charged for a side of ranch, a side of BBQ, and had no idea I was being up charged for the onion rings. I didn't say a word, but it hit wrong with me. .75 points deducted. What especially stood out to me, though, was the Memorial Day place setting displayed near the front entrance honoring our veterans and fallen heroes. It was simple, respectful, and genuinely touching. See my picture. That detail said a lot about the heart behind this place. If you're making the Vegas-to-LA drive and want something more memorable than the usual freeway fast-food stop, this place is definitely worth checking out. Friendly staff, clean and the food is excellent. You would never expect it driving by, I expected a local watering hole with fried food. The meats smoked daily by the owner and the hummus is made in house which has so much flavor. Mostly Mediterranean fare on the menu but also some typical bar food for those who aren't feeling exotic.
