I have no clue what broke down with the burgers: One member of our party ordered a burger and specifically asked for no cheese and what came out for her was literally a patty squeezed between two buns without any spreads or lettuce or even onions. The Copper Room seems like a fabulous place with a great vibe, but our recent experience left us feeling unwelcome and unappreciated (and trust me... we don't need a lot). Thirty of us (reasonable adults age 50+, many meeting for the first time) booked 5 separate OpenTable reservations to get acquainted before a birthday party the next day. Each table had its own reservation with enough seats for everyone. Throughout the evening, staff were quick to tell us 'that's not how we do things here' without offering much of an explanation of how things are actually done. This came up regarding more than two people standing at the host stand for their reservation (they eventually pointed us to a patio, which they could have just done from the get-go), our multiple reservations (the only difference between us and any other table is that we had a shared reason for being there), and when we asked if we could evenly split a check across more than one credit card at a table of 8. The policies themselves were fine, the tone however was condescending. We also understand outside food fees (one of us brought a box of cupcakes in honor of the birthday), but charging each table a $25 "cake fee" when cupcakes were only consumed at one table felt excessive. The spring roll was very fresh with basil and tofu. I liked the spinach and artichoke dip with the chunky artichoke texture without it being too creamy. The five spice fried rice was good too. The cocktail menu features all of the classics and we knew we had to go with some martinis to fit the vibe--Holly's Gin Martini and an Espresso Martini. I loved the look of the menu and the cocktail napkins and the drinks were nice and chilled. You get a carafe with extra martini alongside the gin martini as well. We were in a bit of a rush so we kept it simple and each ordered the Cheeseburger, a straightforward burger but well executed. I probably could have used 2 patties as they're 1/3lb so on the thinner side but it was a solid burger. Overall I loved the experience and vibe here. Ima give it up to the bartender for his honest and amazing service! We had reservations, but came early to try to get a seat earlier and they wouldn't budge as far as seating. My biggest tip is, if you don't have a reservation and don't want to wait too long, get a spot at the bar area. Tables/counter seats at the bar is first come first serve, full service! Drinks: I ordered The Dude. I asked what the difference was between that and the espresso martini because they sounded the same imo. The Dude is sweeter, has a vanilla cream, & doesn't have any espresso but there's coffee liquor. The espresso martini obviously has espresso and other spices to add their own unique flavor. I LOVED the dude, def a little too sweet but I can get by. It didn't taste strong but man it hit me like a truck out of nowhere for just 1 drink. Food: We ordered the grilled shishito peppers, a cheeseburger, side of fries, and the sake cod. The shishito peppers was so good, seasoned with garlic and ponzu, giving that savory sweet & sour flavoring. The cheeseburger was a miss, taste was very mediocre, would rather have enjoyed an in n out burger, and there's no customizations so you can't add onions to it, and it's literally just the burger. If you want to order fries you have to pull out a $10 for a mountain of fries... The sake cod was really good, came with rice and shredded cabbage which was almost like coleslaw? The Copper Room is located right next to the airstrip for the Yucca Valley airport. This is a 1957 lounge that has gotten a second life. The interiors are purposefully retro and the mood is lively. We went on a Wednesday evening when they had loud music. I had made a reservation in advance so we did not have to wait for a table. We opted to sit by the music and the host gave us a nice corner booth. It was pretty loud but we liked the energy of the musicians. A server came over quickly to take our orders. They were out of the spring rolls I wanted, as well as the drink I wanted (strawberry fields). We opted for shishito peppers and the peanut noodles. I went for an aviation drink and my boyfriend opted for an old fashioned. The drinks were classic with no frills, which we appreciated. The food was good. There's a decent selection of food but we only opted for small plates as we had dinner previously. There are options for vegetarians and maybe vegans (I can't remember). I was surprised to learn the restaurant closes at 10PM. I understand that the Copper Room is not in a bustling metropolis but it was surprising to see the place clearing out by 9PM. At 8:45pm, the servers were already packing away some of the table lights, including one at an occupied table. With an hour left of business, the place looked like it was already closed. Being from New York City, this was a bit of a culture shock, where some people don't even start their evening until 11PM. And usually with an hour left to close, the bar or restaurants are still hopping and lively. I suppose this is just the pace of life here which I can respect. Though it seems like there is demand for places staying open later in the Joshua Tree area. Yes, there's a mandatory 20% tip. The language surrounding it on the menu is a little confusing, which leads me to believe people may be double tipping. Is that the intention of ownership - to create this confusion? I can see many people are unhappy with the way this mandatory tip is presented on the menu. Nonetheless, I think this is a decent spot for a cocktail and a small bite. I had this with the added chicken skewers, which had a unique soy sauce- braised flavor. This is one of those places I really wanted to love. We booked a reservation when we were local for Labor Day Weekend. We made the drive and were surprised to see that the restaurant IS ACTUALLY on an airstrip. There weren't any flights taking off when we went during the late evening, but the crowd and vibes were lively. The noise level was pretty loud for a dinner and I got the sense that maybe this was more of a drinks and light apps place, rather than a full on sit-down dinner establishment. The food was okay, not anything to rave about but certainly not disappointing. What really stole the show was the 1957 Martini (which can be made with gin as it should be LOL) that comes with caviar, shrimp cocktail, and all the fixing including a cute little sidecar on ice. The level of detail was well worth the $39 drink -- at least once when in Rome as they say. We probably won't make the trip out again just to eat here, but if we're in the area and are looking for a stiff drink -- this will be our spot. read more

Chicken cutlet was bland and had no taste. Salad was over dressed. Burger was tiny and lacked any flavor. Fries were huge but tasted institutionalized. For the $120 tab, very poor value.
