The Inn was built in 1909 by Thomas Edison. Yes that Thomas Edison, the one who invented the lightbulb. The Inn has so much character it's pure eye candy for those who appreciate the fine craftsmanship of classic furniture, decor and interior design. We stayed in the Thomas Jefferson room, the biggest room with a king size bed and infamously know to have housed Joe DiMaggio and Marylyn Monroe back in the day. We stayed in the Sunset Room. A/C was already on in our when we checked in, so no sweating to wait for the room to calm down. This was important as we are in the midst of a heatwave. We had a goodnights rest Breakfast The coffee was ready was ready at 7am, if you wanted coffee before there is a Keurig Coffee maker too. They also had apple juice, orange juice and cranberry juice. When we sat down for breakfast we were served a fruit cup with fresh fruit. Our breakfast consisted of 4 slices of French Toast, good amount of crispy potatoes, 2 eggs (we choose over easy) 2 slices of bacon for me and 2 sausages for my husband. Im not a big eater but I ate almost everything on my plate. My husband ate all of his. It was very delicious and reminded me of a breakfast my Mom would make. I didn't get to meet Linda but I booked our Reservation with her and she was very friendly and it went smoothly. Andi was really nice and always had a smile. We've stayed in a few different "ski getaway" places over the years and have always been disappointed with the beds. Not here - so comfortable!! Our private bathroom had all of the amenities and plenty of space. Our room also had a mini-fridge, tons of pillows and blankets, and a walk-in closet - what more could you need? Breakfast was buffet-style out of the kitchen and could be eaten alone or surrounded by fellow travelers. We didn't get a chance to try out the pool or the hot tubs but the pool area is large and inviting - complete with comfy chairs, a fire pit, and a grill. The owners are so welcoming and friendly - it felt more like we were visiting friends than anything else. A thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish and we will definitely return. We were so warmly greeted by Mike and loved the amenities that the lodge offered. Though we were too conked to enjoy the fire pit that evening, the ambience indoors was simply delightful. Carol called us to make sure we were making it up ok. When we arrived at Carlson's Lodge Carol met us to check us in. We hadn't eaten yet and she called a nearby restaurant to see if they could still take us. She also helped us plan our entire day for the next day. She had really good suggestions of different hikes we could do in our time frame. She then took us to our room which had a door code instead of a key which I really liked. She also said that one bed was firm and one bed was plush. This place was perfect for our one night stay. The only thing I would note is there is not a fridge in the room. The lodge was so close to Mt. Willard, the Cog Railway, the Mt Washington Hotel and others. It was a very convenient location and Carol made our stay so much better, would definitely stay again!
