Finally, in November, a technician arrived, but his work order only included half the job. It wasn't until mid-December that someone came back to supposedly complete the repairs. When I got home, I found a gap under my garage door measuring 1/2 to 1 inch wide and about three feet long--completely unacceptable. I informed Valley Overhead Doors that I would not pay the remaining balance due to their poor workmanship and lack of professionalism. In response, they sent me a letter threatening to put a lien on my house. I've never experienced such dismal customer service or lack of pride in their work from any contractor. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for garage door repair.

However, when the weather finally allows me to sit outside in the late spring, summer, and early fall, I needed something that would protect me from the sun. It does the job, and it looks beautiful. Once I decided on what I wanted, ordering the awning was a breeze. It took a couple of months to get it because it had to be custom made. The installation was quick and my neighbors all commented on how good it looked. Meranda was my contact at A-1, and she did an outstanding job through the process. In summary, my awning is perfect during the good weather when I can sit outside (without freezing). When it's too cold to sit outside, it retracts to a very clean, elegant, minimal look that allows more light into my great room. Note 1: If you are in an area where it rains heavily, keep the awning retracted when it rains as it cannot handle the weight of a lot of rain. Note 2: The optional side windbreakers are very heavy and are not really intended for use in an area where the awning will be opened and closed regularly. They would be best in the consistently sunnier areas of the country where the awning will remain open for an extended period of time.

The house in question is Victorian style, 2 1/2 stories tall, with numerous gables, dormers, a turret with curves, and an octagon shaped porch. It was covered with the original shakes, and needed plywood installed before the new roof went down. This is to emphasize the scope and complexity of the job. There was a 4 day window of good weather. The contractor showed up Monday AM with about 6 vehicles, including 2 or 3 support rigs that held porta-jon and cleanup tools, another just for ladders and rigging, etc. Very organized and professional. 13 workers to start with. Each day's progress was nothing short of amazing. No one ever slacked off, yet morale seemed high. The jobsite was cleaned each evening. They were completely finished by noon Thursday, just barely beating the rain. The finished work looks very good. I was made aware of the cost by my neighbor. Judging be the size, scope, and difficulty of the job, and the speed of completion and quality of work done, I'd say it was a very reasonable price. Everyone in the neighborhood has commented on how impressed they were with this company's work.
