I'm with the other reviews here. Get a second opinion. I went here because they are in network for me. They told me I have a whole bunch of little cavities between my teeth, will likely need to crown a tooth that has a bigger filling on it, and that they want to seal my grooves because they are "deep." They were so nice I didn't think about it that day but after a few days I realized I've been going to the dentist once a year my whole life and no dentist has ever said I have deep grooves or needed to crown my tooth. I decided to get a second opinion at Mountain Range Dentistry. They are out of network for me but I was willing to pay the price for a second opinion. My dentist told me my grooves are normal, my filling is good and he wouldn't crown my tooth. This is more in line with what I've heard. He said sealing my grooves is unnecessary. I cancelled my follow up with Appletree immediately. I like my dentists to be conservative in their practice. Just be wary. read more

What a joke! My daughter had a dental emergency. Called first thing this morning. They said they couldn't get her in for another week. Fast forward to this evening, she can't eat, the pain is radiating through her jaw. I called the after hours line and they said they will call us back during business hours and if it gets worse go to the ER. So my for the "do no harm" oath. I've been going here for years now and have had nothing but great experiences. Absolutely the opposite of earlier reviews. Dr Nyugen has always been very conservative about her approach and very respectful of costs. They always tell me what a procedure will cost before doing it. I had a hygienist named Hannah who was very knowledgeable and competent in her work. She's very current on dental products and was able to suggest some for my situation. I went here to Appletree Dental on 2800 E 136th ave...The Dentist I got was a very short blonde woman with no courtesy... Not a hello how are you today, nothing just got straight to what my appointment was..she quoted me my treatment at my first appointment no work done just a consult, I was quoted $11,000 worth of work which included partial denture, 2 crowns,3fillings and a cleaning. Today I went and told her I just wanted my chipped tooth fixed and fillings done..she said she recommended a crown on !y chipped tooth..needless to say if I had got just those 3 thing done I was quoted almost $2800, I got up and walked out..yes I have no insurance and that was supposed to be a discount... My daughter likes the dental hygexist and dentist at the 136th location, it's just a shame that they take advatage by over diagnosing and have horrible billing practices. my daughter was taken advantage of, being charged for full mouth x-rays at her 6 month check up. Then dentist knew full well the insurance company wouldn't cover the cost and my daughter, not knowing any better, paid to have the x-rays taken. She depends on her dentist as the professional to guide her with advice. In my experience the dentists have told me x-rays are only needed once a year, that's why insurance doesn't cover that cost more often. She also receieved notification about a balance owed 6 months after having dental work done. The billing office dropped the ball on submitting proper paperwork to the insurance company and then suddenly sent her a bill for the balance. We have been trying to work it out with the office for 3 months now and getting nowhere. The billing office won't return our calls or emails and will not provide an itemized statement. We've had to turn this over to our attorney to try and get it resolved. read more

I have been to this dentist office twice. My third time would have been today however they called 30 min before the appointment to cancel due to the hygienist being out "super sick." They wanted to reschedule for tomorrow, hoping that the hygienist would be in. I commented that I wouldn't want a super sick hygienist working on me. Their reply was the next available appointment being in May. Today is January 8th! No thanks. I'll find a new dentist that respects my time and schedule as well. read more

I accuse this office of taking advantage of my college daughter and pushing expensive 3D imaging that is NOT covered by Delta Dental insurance. They took the expensive scans and did not inform her the possibility they would NOT be covered by insurance. I have $250 bill for 3D Imaging. They also "claim" she had a microcavity that they wanted filling. What is a microcavity? This sounds suspiciously like stories I have heard of Private Equity firms that own Dental Offices and push for expensive unnecessary services that they can bill. read more

Much like other people they told me I needed a crown, trusting my dentist I went through with it. Then insurance said they weren't paying for it because it was 'cosmetic' as their dentists reviewed my X-rays and said it was unnecessary. So I had to pay almost $1000 out of pocket. Fast forward to today about 3 years later and my new dentist says that the crown is not sealed correctly. I go for a second opinion and they agree. So once again I have to pay $800 out of pocket because it hasn't even been 5 years since the crown so insurance won't cover it, all because of the shoddy work they did. I'm so annoyed. read more

such a shame I just hung up with Charice who gave me the WORST customer service I have had in years. The sad part is I like the dentist, I like both of them. I had liked this place for years. But I was just treated like crap on my last call over billing errors on THEIR part. I was basically told "They didn't submit this claim". Hmm - must have been the tooth fairy? My whole family uses 1 dentist, Appletree. I have a insurance denial letter here with tons of details about a service, and it was rejected. They basically just made a billing mistake. Easy fix, should have been a easy phone call. Nope, got attitude, arguments, denials, etc. I don't get it? Who argues such a simple fix? She talked to me like I was crazy and stupid for telling her about the document I was holding in my hand. To make matters worse, I have called a dozen times over the past 2 weeks just to address this bill and could never got a human on the phone. so frustrating. I own my own small business and if my staff treated customers the way I was just treated I would be out of business! Now I have to decide if I want to continue using this place since I am so frustrated with the office staff and their attitude and stupidity but I really do like the dentist and hygienist. Nicole, my dental hygienist was extremely gentle and considerate. She listened to my concerns, and she and Dr. Derby spent a good amount of time with me. I appreciated being treated with respect and listened to. I highly recommend Nicole if you're sensitive and/or fearful of the dentist, because she takes time to make sure you're comfortable. My husband said America (hygienist) is also extremely gentle as well. This is the only office we will ever go to again for dental work. read more

I needed a crown on a tooth and went in and had it prepped and the temporary crown put on. Crown #1: Went back 3 weeks later and the crown was way too short and the wrong color. They took a mold and sent it off to the lab a 2nd time. Crown #2: Went in 3 weeks later to get the permanent crown. It was longer than the 1st crown but still too short and wrong color. The dentist took some pictures so the lab could see the length of the tooth on the other side and to get the correct color. They took new molds. Crown #3: Came back today to get the 3rd crown put on and the girl who scheduled my appointment put it on their calendar for the wrong day. I made the appointment for Monday as I am off work Monday. She put me down for Tuesday which I work and would never have scheduled the appointment for Tuesday. They could not work me in today to see the dentist. So now I have to wait another week, make another drive to the dentist. I hope this 3rd crown fits, is the right color and length. I'm very frustrated with the service I've been receiving lately at this office and will be looking for a different dental office after I get this crown and am completely satisfied with it. read more

One of the most unprofessional dental clinics. My first appointment was scheduled at 2 pm but the dentist (Dr. Engler) didn't even come out to see me until after 2:40 pm. I had specifically scheduled the appointment for getting a tooth chip fixed and after she came to see me, she said she needed to get me another appointment to do it. Since I was already scheduled to get measurements for my retainers for another date, she gave me an appointment on the day of, and regretfully I got a call from the office canceling that appointment without any alternatives or back up plan. They left me in the lurch and I needed to go ahead get my retainers without getting the tooth chip fixed. I'll never go back to this clinic and will never recommend it to anyone. read more

I have always been a huge fan of Appletree Dental over the last 4 years, utilizing them for both my husband and I and recommending them to others for their excellent care and customer service. Today, however, I have realized that while they provide great service, it is under their terms and they do not truly care about their patients. I called to schedule my 6 month cleaning, and knowing that it was less than 6 months between my last visit, I asked for clarification to confirm that my visit would be covered by my insurance. The gal at the desk called my insurance company and got back to me stating that it would be covered. Due to a stipulation, my insurance did not cover it. I spoke with the office manager Sarah, who tried to fight my insurance company for me, and was unsuccessful. She offered to try to get the visit written off, due to my status as a long standing patient who referred numerous people to Appletree. The providers refused to write off any portion of my bill, despite the fact that Sarah acknowledged that I was given inaccurate information by the staff at Appletree. My bill was $160. While that is a lot of money to me, surely it is not a lot of money to Appletree Dental, who will now loose the business of my husband who needed 2 fillings fixed next month. They were not even willing to cover a portion of it for customer satisfaction and to keep a customer. read more

I left the dentist I had a good experience with to go to Appletree Dental. The only reason for this is because I had moved and Appletree was closer. I haven't had cavities in years and I brush and floss everyday. The Dental Hygienist at Appletree told me that I had 11 cavities. I don't know how this is possible since I was just at the dentist 6 months previous to this day and I had no cavities. As she was telling me this, she continually looked at the x-rays with a confused look on her face. The dentist told me I had 9 cavities and then changed the number again to 5. Neither of their stories matched. They tried putting me on a treatment plan, but I told them I wanted a second opinion. I decided to go back to my previous dentist. Sure enough, the dentist there did not find any cavities or any other major problems. Overall, I was displeased with the service of Appletree Dental and I have found another dentist I am satisfied with. read more

Be aware of Appletree Dental ! I had the worst experience at this dental office. At this office they are good at scheduling you at short notice but their wait time and time spent for even a simple appointment is ridiculous. I first went to this office for just a cleaning and I was advised by the doctor on having a crown done . I am not a big fan of crowns but they assured me that this was going to be a great experience . They started the process the first week of December, the temporary one never stayed one there, they ordered 2 permanent ones that never stayed and this whole process lasted 3 months. I couldn't eat on that side of the mouth and it was very sensitive tooth. I went to another office and they fixed my crown. My biggest disappointment with this office was the conversation I had with Charice the office manager. She was rude ,yelling and screaming on the phone bc it was my fault that I had a short tooth. The payment i made with my HSA account they are going to send it with the check and I have to go and deal with the problem of depositing back to my account . The client has the right to scream bc it is your body that has been uncomfortable and also the time and money spend . Stay away from this place!! read more

I've had many good dental experiences here. They are very responsive when it comes to returning phone calls. The staff at the front desk had always been helpful. They give referrals when necessary. Very aggressive diagnosing issues. I would caution anyone using Appletree to seek a second opinion before allowing them to perform corrective action. Receiving a second opinion saved me probably several thousand dollars and avoided significant pain from unnecessary invasive treatment. Background: Because of the proximity to our home, we decided to switch to Appletree from our dentist in Broomfield. We live in Thornton. The first appointment was fine but they indicated I had two cavities and my gums had a few pockets four to five millimeters deep, thus I was developing early signs of gingivitis. Going into the appointment I had no pain or issues with my teeth. I just needed a regular cleaning. My next appointment, the hygienist refused to clean my teeth indicating that because of the state of my gums, I needed a deep cleaning and would need to reschedule with the soonest appointment available four months out. Additionally, the dentist indicated I now had three cavities and required a great deal of work. But not to worry, they could help finance the amount not covered by insurance. Having never experienced any trouble with teeth before, I became extremely skeptical about how aggressive Appletree was diagnosing my condition. So, I returned to my former dentist for a second opinion. Three months later, my former dentist measured my gums, most one to two millimeters deep with a couple at three millimeters (note that did not change my teeth cleaning habits between my last Appletree appointment and seeing my former dentist). Additionally, a new X-ray and exam only revealed that a silver filling would need attention in the next year. No cavities and no gingivitis to report. Clean bill of health, contrary to Appletree's aggressive diagnosis. read more

My Kid and I felt like We were on an Assembly line. Unfortunately, They seemed orientation towards Money Primarily. Dr Engler and Durby are more interested in Profit than the PT. Totally driven, IMO, by such! My Daughter and I were Very uncomfortable with The Dentist's attitudes, as well. Their assistance with Our Insurance Co, was Not helpful, to say the least. I started coming to Appletree due to some poor experiences with other dentists in Thornton. Since switching to them, I've had nothing but positive outcomes. Everyone there, that I've worked with, have treated me with kindness and respect. I never feel pressured to have any procedures done that I didn't already know I needed. I also greatly appreciate the Hygienist I've had because she is naturally gentle and respectful to my mouth without me needing to tell her my teeth are sensitive. Agree with all the reviews stating they overdiagnose with dental work and their billing practices are poor. They just called me to tell me I owe them almost $1000 because they weren't able to get correct benefit information from my insurance up front. The services were denied for benefit max and the need for a waiting period, both of which should have been discovered by the dental office prior to the services being rendered, especially since they are an in-network provider with the insurance company. The person from Appletree who left a message about my bill was so silly, stating, "just want to make sure we talk about your bill before your kids' appointments in a couple days, since we have sent you several statements with no response." To be clear, I received no statements. On Jan 18th I received a text stating I owed $187, and then on January 25th I received another text stating I owed $355, and now today (Jan 31st) it was $976. It sure took a long time for all the claims for the work we had starting last summer to adjudicate. I think we had a total of 14 cavities and 4 crowns between the three of us, which is kinda suspect since we have been up to date on our dental care, every 6 months, and the dentist we transferred from in Aurora, who we had been with continuously for about five years, found no work needed with our last exams that occurred 6 months prior to us transferring to Appletree. My crowns are also shaped funny and are way different than the teeth they replaced. Lastly, just FYI, many dentists will make your crowns in their office the same day and they match your previous teeth almost perfectly, rather than going through the rigamarole of waiting three weeks with temporary crowns that keep breaking and falling off. read more

I started going to apple tree dental about 3 years ago, I wanted to go to a dentist closer to my home and I decided to switch dentist. I am usually pretty good about seeing a dentist every 6 months. I get my first exam at apple tree and they tell me I had 14 cavities, and surprisingly I decided to go ahead with getting the cavities drilled and filled. I was surprised that i had so many sudden cavities, keep in mind I only had 6 cavities in my entire life and at 40 years of age that seemed pretty good. I got the cavities taken care of then they found 4 more cavities then filled those! So I'm at 17 cavities drilled and filled! I go back 6 months later and they say I even have 3 more after that! One of the cavities ended up being a root canal because it damaged the nerve. So at that point i was at 20 cavities and a root canal. My last appointment with apple tree, they tell me that I had two more visible cavities on my front teeth so at that point I was getting annoyed and I decided to get a second opinion. They diagnosed these two cavities without an ex-ray which lead me to believe that I might be dealing with someone who might be just drilling holes in my head for no reason. I then decided to look up other dentist and made an appointment. I got the appointment and the pointed out the two cavities on my front teeth, they proceeded with the ex-ray and to no surprise there were no two cavities on those teeth! They saw a few grooves but definitely no cavities! I asked them what's up with those groove's, they knew I wore braces at one point and a cavity could of started then after the braces came of and the cavities could of fixed themselves! They said they don't drill cavities unless they show on the ex-ray. Which to me makes absolute sense! It's been a year or so and now I'm cavity free. Please be careful and always get a second opinion if you get a heavy diagnosis such as mine! read more

I was very happy with my first visit in, although they were booked out a couple weeks. Anyway, the exam and cleaning went well. Fast forward a couple weeks, I have not been able to reach anyone in the office for 2.5 weeks. Have left 3 voicemails and sent 1 email with no response back. All I was trying to do was set up an appointment for a crown and a couple fillings. I now have to deal with getting records transferred and trying to get treatment from another office by the end of the year. Very disappointed. read more

It hasn't occurred to me to get a second opinion until I read other yelp reviews of this office...If you come to this office and are told you need a lot of dental work (when you've only ever had a couple of cavities in your life), get a second opinion! I moved up North and needed a new dentist and chose this one and while everyone was super nice, I was told I had TEN cavities! I thought this seemed excessive so I decided to get a second opinion.. and then was told I only had 3. I got uneasy feelings when the hygienist hadn't even looked at my xrays for more than a minute when she told me I had 10 cavities and then immediately called the front desk and told them to develop a payment plan for all the dental work I was going to need. My second opinion is from my previous dentist who is very credible and now will be worth the hour+ drive. read more

Awful place with an compassionate dentist. Not only was the dentist rude and seem totally uninterested in my pain but I felt like I was in a Chop Shop dental office. The dentist won't even fill their own fillings / cavities they have one of their uneducated assistants place the filling which messed my tooth up even more and now i have pain and have to go to a real dental office to get my feelings fixed that they messed up on. This place will make you feel like they don't care about you they get you in and out the dentist won't even work on you, their assistant will who I'm sure never went to college to be a dentist. read more

I have never been to a dentist office that was so unprofessional. I have three kids and was trying to fill out the information as fast as I could and try to watch my 7,4 and 2 year old. I was never felt so humiliated when I could hear them talking badly about my writing. I decided that it shouldn't matter since the dentist was nice. We had to come back for an appointment for my 4 year old and 7 year old later and I was told that i would get a treatment plan out to me. A week went by and nothing. I then called and I was told that a treatment plan and price would be sent out to me and it never did. I then had to call back two more times and on the last call she told me that we would owe less than I thought. After my 4 appointment that day i was told that I would need to pay over a hundred dollars more that I was given over the phone and that was only for my 4 year old not my 7 year old as well. Next was my 7 year old's appointment. My husband took off work to take her since she gets really nervous getting shots. He shows up and the office was closed and they had canceled that day. I understand that there was a storm but at least have the decency to call. He finally got a hold of someone and they just brushed it off. We moved on yet again and rescheduled the appointment. Yet again my husband switched his schedule and they called two hours before to cancel which in turn has caused missed shifts at our home and a 7 year old that has been getting worked up for nothing. Overall the dentist was nice but they sure need to clean house on the front desk staff. They were unprofessional and have no idea how to deal with insurance, scheduling and people. read more

This dentist has put me through ABSOLUTE hell. I came in with a beautiful smile & good dental health & they screwed it up!! The first cleaning I had put my mouth in a ridiculous amount of pain because they cleaned it too hard. Then, they told me I had cavities when I actually didn't which led to a root canal that I DIDNT NEED!!! The dentists are rude, the dental hygienists are rude, terrible customer service. The receptionist gave away information to my parents about my dental issues even though I'm 18 and she tried giving dental advice over the phone, which is illegal, especially because she's not even A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL!! She also continued to give my mom attitude when all my mom was trying to do was figure out an appointment! When I went to my other dentist, they fixed all the pain that this dentist caused me and also told me that I didn't have any cavities, like this stupid place did!! I feel really lucky to have found this dental team ! Quick background, growing up, I had a dentist who practiced from his home and used a water drill (liberally) and only used topical anesthesia...if something went wrong, it was pulled. Simply put, I AM TERRIFIED of dentists. They went above and beyond to make sure I wasn't anxious on my first appointment. Everyone from the reception staff, dental technicians, hygienists, and dentists have been VERY understanding as to my long gap of dental care. I was really pleased to work with Dr. Derby and her crew to figure out a realistic path to dental health. After a bone implant, I needed an emergency appointment and I was seen, next day (btw, it was completely fine) by Dr Mauterer, also fantastic. I would recommend them very highly to anyone who is reluctant to visit the dentist, they are all clearly passionate in giving the best care and experience. My husband and I went to this office when they first opened and was please with the hygienist sinew came back to get some worked done , so they gave us an estimate how much it would cost ... But then when we came out the bill it's 200-300 dollars more . The first time we let it go , but then second time we was not happy they do it again and the same with my husband they always seem to be way over charged.I still have problem with my tooth but this is the dentist I would not recommend to anyone or go back she is not experienced enough. read more

Apple tree told me I needed over $1900 in dental work and that was just for two minor things. Also told me I had five cavities. So I went to a different dentist that was highly recommended to get a second opinion! Long story short what Appletree told me was all lies! I'm so glad I didnt stick with them as my primary dentist! I have had terrible experiences with dentists in the past and thank God I don't have to continue that! I read on here that some people had the same experiences as I did,that's why I wanted to get a second opinion and I'm sure glad I did. I'm sure all of the people that work here are nice, but that doesn't makeup for unnecessary dental work especially for someone without insurance! Horrible experience! I was surprised because they were highly recommended and had great Google reviews, however they consistently messed up my dental work and on top of that they told me I had 6 cavities, one of which was bad enough to warrant a root canal AND that I had gum disease and need a deep cleaning and then would need one every six months after. I went for a second opinion after my first experiences with them were questionable and NONE of that was true! My mouth was in perfect health, no dental work needed done WHATSOEVER! Just a cleaning and out the door and I haven't had an issue since I've switched dentists. They are UNETHICAL and will con you to make money. read more
