This review is very overdue, but well deserved! I bought a used whirlpool washer and dryer set for a great price in June of 2021. When I say a great price, I mean a GREAT price. My set is an older commercial set that has definitely seen some use, which is ok with me. Mo came to my house, installed, and took away my old set. He was right on time and no problems with scheduling. Fast forward to February...my washer started leaking from the bottom, and since they offer a one year warranty I called to schedule an appointment. We were on a mission go a black apartment sized fridge in black for $400 or less delivered. We visited this spot and it seemed like a pretty legit place to buy used appliances. I thought it was nice they offered to deliver for $30 to our location and let us use the dolly ourselves to get a fridge upstairs. Also they offer a 12month warranty. Although they didn't have a single apartment sized black unit, they had this one with ice maker which was a bit "OP" for our needs at at the top end of our budget. It would have been over $500 with $60 upstairs delivery and tax. Ultimately, we ended up spending a bit less for a brand new basic one from Sears online since we did not need an ice maker. It's a small place with not much inventory but what they do have is in good condition. He gave a tip that the 1st and 15th are best times to shop for a used fridge. I can't imagine going any where else or paying for a new appliance. I've had many friends buy new appliances only to have them break within 2 years. They pay thousands with a worthless refrigerator, washer, taking up space. The cost to repair these is beyond affordable, (That is if you can find a person that CAN repair it!) There's really not too many places around her that sell good used appliances like this. They stick to a few brands they trust and fix old appliances and sell them for a very reasonable price. I wanted to go this route with my washer dryer because I think it's sort of wasteful to keep buying brand new stuff and have them break down and sent to the landfill. They told me that they prefer to fix washers and dryers from at least 15-20 years ago because they don't rely on computer motherboards to operate. Makes sense. Anyway, they offer a 1 year warranty and even afterwards you can call them and ask them to come take a look at it if you have a problem. The belt on my dryer broke about 3-4 months in and they came out and replaced it for free. Then a part broke about 2 months after my warranty ran out and he came back and replaced it for about $75. What a joke this place is! There are two girls that work here, Janet & Jesse but both are not helpful. They say they will call you back, email, etc.. & it is NEVER done. Then they give you the run around and won't let you speak to a manager. -1 We got a washer/dryer combo from here and they call you 10 mins. Past the end time of the time window they gave! They also called 2 times, at the start of the the delivery window- to ask if we need gas or electric, even though that info was provided when we placed the order!!! So yeh, they run a pretty tight ship. o_o. -1 So, now for the delivery which came late- the unit wreaked like cigarettes inside the dryer and had what appeared to be ash in it! -1 When I called, I'm told that the tech who delivered it doesn't smoke, so it can't be cigarette odor & ash. I'm also told that the ash in the dryer was just lint, so thanks for the used, dirty, stinky unit!?!? I have asthma and advise them I need a new unit, they say they'll check on it & 10 days pass before I get a new unit! (Only after several calls on my part) Now for my favorite part... It is the day of the delivery of my SECOND unit and the delivery timeframe I was provided was 7-10pm, comes and goes and I never hear from them! So, I call the next morning and shocker- NO one answers the phone. Later that evening I am advised that the delivery truck broke down! They are so professional, they didn't even feel the need to call their waiting customer at all! -1 Side note, I've lived in my place 3 years and never seen a roach. DISCLAIMER: The Refrigerator purchased here is an older unit, and has been serviced by Appliance Exchange once before during warranty period. Note I now had repairs performed by a third party repair service. PRODUCTS: Are old and all have some type of flaw - cosmetic or mechanical. You get what you pay for. In this case, old and flawed. SERVICE: Worthless to non-existent. Owner doubles as the Repair man as well. He is out daily from 9am to 4pm (which leads one to wonder just how many of his products are failing) tending to service calls and staff says call between 6am to 8am to try and reach him. RESULTS: It is very difficult to ever get a hold of this guy unless you have the time and persistence to keep hassling his staff. I eventually had one of his staff explain he is a jerk and imply it is pointless to keep calling. WARRANTY: You have a 1 year warranty for items bought here, but keep in mind how difficult it is to get service work. My new used dryer works perfectly and they provided excellent delivery and installation service which entailed going up 2 flights of stairs and even removing doors to get it to fit in the laundry area. A fridge I bought from them stopped working well after 18 months, called them up, they came out same day and only charged me $100 for a failed relay that was caused by a recent electric issue in my home. I'm about to move into a new townhouse and needed a washer/dryer and fridge for my place. I came across their Craigslist ad and decided that the low prices + the 1-year warranty was worth a look. My boyfriend and I took a drive down there. They had a decent selection on refurbished washers/dryers and a limited number of 18 cu. ft. fridges (that's what the space in my new place allows for). Yesi was very helpful. I got a very clean Whirlpool washer/dryer set for a steal and a very clean fridge for rock a bottom price...plus, if anything goes wrong with it for the next year, they will come out and repair it for free! They had free delivery anywhere in the OC, which made the sale more appealing... the reason I'm giving 3 stars was the delivery... we were told it would be between 5-7 pm, 2 days after the purchase. Perfect! At 5 pm, we get a call from Evelyn letting us know the delivery was running behind schedule & the delivery guy wouldn't be there until 7:30pm. We went to get some dinner and returned around 7:15pm. At 8:00pm, there was still no delivery. I attempted to call the office, but got an answering machine. I left a message, but that was all I could do. Finally, at 8:30pm, we got a call from delivery stating they were on their way & arrived about 15 minutes later. It still took another hour or so to install the appliances. The delivery guy did a great job and even pointed out one of the valves was leaking and advised us as to what to do. He was a one-man operation and I felt bad that he had been delivering by himself since 7:00 am, but to come 1-1/2 hours late at that time of night without any way to contact him nor the office was a bit ridiculous, which is the reason I'm giving AE 3-stars. I think they need to have some way to get updates to their customers after hours so we can be kept in the loop if your delivery is going to be *that* late... other than that... the appliances work great and I have no regrets to date about the purchase. read more

So after several phone calls, filing a claim with Consumer Affairs and BBB, Appliance Exchange kindly informed me that they would take GE unit back and replace it with supposedly better Kenmore Elite. Guess what? Not even week has passed, washer died, and dryer started squeaking loud. So they sent over that same repairman. During a casual conversation he mentioned that GE unit they took back from me was too crappy to even attempt any repair and they just scrapped it. As for my "new" kenmore elite unit, he got washer back to life by forcing top panel back in place (it wasn't properly mounted to begin with), I guess some wires were detached. He also opened front of the dryer and aimlessly sprayed some WD-40 inside, then he left. Half an hour later, dryer started squeaking again even louder, and washer also started squeaking! UPDATE Aug 11: Dryer got fixed today, so I changed rating to 2 stars, but the repairman told me that the washer is supposed to make noise when it's on heavy wash setting. That didn't convince me at all. To me it sounds like old rusty springs or something, besides there was no noise when I first got the washer. read more

He became panicky, said all refrigerators sound like that at the beginning, give it awhile and it'll be silent, would not take it back. When you're looking at buying used appliances of unknown origin, there is always an associated risk. The question is whether or not you want to roll the dice. In any case, manage your expectations appropriately. They get their goods from mostly auction from what I hear, so really the history of every machine is dubious at best to begin with. A fridge could've been from a lab that stores chemicals, or from another place or two even worse and not worth mentioning here. All I know is that when they get their shipment, most of them look awful before they are cleaned. A few tips to help you improve your odds: 1. Like other Yelpers say, always inspect the unit you are purchasing in person. Don't just take their word for it. 2. Appliances usually have stickers on them that say when they were manufactured. Don't pick a unit that was manufactured some years ago. Try to grab something that is relatively new. The one I picked was from 2008, which was considerably newer than a lot of other ones I saw. Just by common sense, newer units will be more energy efficient, be easier to maintain in the future, have fewer miles on them, and probably have less chance of things going wrong to begin with. 3. Be direct and get units that are working when they come in. If the appliance doesn't work when they receive it, then they have to fix it to sell it. This is already asking for problems as most of these will probably be repeat issues waiting to happen later. They have most of their uncleaned, fresh arrival stock in the alley behind the showroom, so don't be afraid to ask to go out there and inspect the newly conscripted units for yourself. Chances are if you pick one outside and have them try it on the spot, that means it didn't need any extra TLC to get it up and running, and has a better chance of being a keeper. 4. More features, more problems. Avoid getting anything too fancy here, the simpler it is, the less that can go wrong. That cool icemaker or crazy popup digital display might one day not work in the near future, then what do you do? Is it worth fixing then? Keeping the purchase footprint small will also help you in chucking these machines away in the future. My personal experience was mixed. I was inquiring about a specific fridge at first, but then they got a phonecall and sold the same fridge that was in front of me. I ended up settling on another for the same price, and have been mostly happy with it. The fridge that I got works fine, but the freezer compartment doesn't seal properly (possibly the gasket), so I get bugs that sneak into my freezer overnight. When I originally looked at the fridge, I pointed this out, and they said that the suction won't be there until the fridge gets cold. That didn't really make much sense to me, as I thought rubber would harden in cold temperatures, and therefore provide less suction, but took their word for it since there really wasn't anything I could do at the time. I ended up having to tape the freezer sides with masking tape, which works well, but again is a personal workaround. The delivery experience was very good. We moved into our new place in Carson on a Friday night, and they delivered the fridge at the scheduled time of around 8:30 PM. They waived the delivery charge for us, even though we were out of the 25 mile radius. I personally wouldn't have wanted to deliver a fridge on a Friday night outside of my free delivery radius, so I am thankful that they accommodated me here. There's a 12 month guarantee where they will allegedly send out a technician for repairs if any issues come up, but I am hoping I will never need to find out if I need this. read more
